Founder/CEO Marketing and Advertising Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Great software for teams using billable hours" March 5, 2019 5.0 It's been great so far, we switched from Clockify and the biggest change is that it saves a lot of time creating invoices and makes it much easier for clients to pay. Pros I like how it tracks both the time and the payments in one system. We switched to Harvest because it was taking to much time to build out our invoices, Harvest automatically takes our billable hours and creates invoices instantly! It lets us customize our rates for each person for each different client and has a lot of extra features like tracking retainers, so we can charge a deposit for new clients. It has apps on all the different platforms (desktop app, mobile, chrome extension etc.) so it's very easy and simple to use. It also will do minimum billable increments which is great. Cons We only have the option of doing minimum billing increments as 6 min, 15 min, 30 min, or an hour, but not 10 minutes, which would be nice for us. Also, I wish there the fee/user would go down as you add users. At 12/month/user, the fees get really high as your team grows, it would be nice to have a bulk discount of some type. " August 17, 2018 5.0 Terrific app with a witty and clever brand style (the quotes they leave on each blank timesheet) are awesome! Pros Harvest just announced some new integration with project management platforms like JIRA which is a HUGE time saver, and a game changer for teams who want to analyze their teams hourly work habits. The integration with Basecamp is essential and the iphone app is a big plus. When it comes to time tracking, the simpler the better otherwise the time won't get recorded. Harvest does an excellent job on the user interface. Pros Interface, Ease of use, integrations Cons Would like more user permission options and more control over the quickbooks online integration. I am not sure we are getting the best value of the software but I don't know if it is capable of doing what we need. Pros The platform is very simple to use and track time manually or with a timer. I like that there is an app so that you can virtually log your time from anywhere. It is a nice platform to keep a log of time year over year for analysis or profitability. Cons I do not like that you cannot add new jobs from the app. Also, you cannot easily add someone as a project manager to projects once they exist from the project listing. You have to manually go into each specific project and manually check mark project admin and it takes a lot of time. There should be a way to easily do this from somewhere. Easy to use without clunky on boarding. Pros This software was easy to use from day one. Setup was seamless and I never encountered any issues from daily use. Cons Did not encounter much issues so I have not developed any cons for this software. Having used it as a freelancer, it is perfect to keep clients organized and billed without losing too much time on admin work. Pros Harvest is easy to use and allows me to track time in real-time. The app also scans your calendar and helps tag meetings and calls to the right projects to be easily tracked. Set up is also super easy for teams and individuals. Cons All of my issues with Harvest are related to how it has been implemented. Our team works cross-functionally most of the day so outside of any consulting work we are doing that is tied to a client, we are moving fluidly from one task to the next and often forget to switch over our timer. I recommended Harvest to many friends and partners and they all seem to enjoy the tool. Pros Used it both for a medium size business and as a freelancer. Timesheet management is intuitive and easy to use and so is invoicing. Cons Some invoicing fields should be more easily customized. By providing a super simple way to track and analyze where time and resources were spent, Harvest helped us improve our processes and really changed for the better the way we think about what we do and how we do it. Cons The thing I like the least is not about the software itself, but the people using it: sometimes it’s hard to have team member commit to using it, which is fundamental to unlock all the other benefits of the software itself. It makes me more productive. Pros Harvest tracks time. No more, no less. That's a beauty of it. Name your task and click start. It's that easy. You can quickly edit you task title and adjust your time. I also think the reports are helpful. It's nice to see where you've spent most of your time. I've tried a few competitors and they just try too hard. It took so long to start tracking that I needed a separate tracker just for my time tracker! Harvest integrates with a lot of project management softwares as well. Cons I don't particularly care for the expenses portion. But that's just because I don't often request expenses. It is perfect for tracking time (the iPhone app is great, too, as it allows you to start and stop time on the go) and expenses, and conducting billing. It also has a surprisingly great reporting section, which is helpful for understanding your own productivity and opportunities. Harvest is also wonderfully customizable to fit your office's individual needs. Cons This is so nitpicky, but that is because Harvest is so great, and has so little to improve upon: I wish there were multiple pre-set messages you can send. The current system allows for a thank you message and a "balance due" message. Our office, like many law firms, I imagine, has two balance due messages: money due for work performed, and money due to maintain a required trust deposit. Currently we have to manually change this. Harvest grew with me when I built an agency, allowing me to easily view the hours of my contractors and employees. I use the Mac app on a daily basis, then log into the web interface to get overall reports regularly. The speed of the reporting makes it easy to know how much I should be billing in a really quick manner. Cons The Mac app can have random hiccups that cause it to appear in random parts of the screen, and it doesn't let you do a lot of the admin work like adding new clients or projects. I've been a customer for many years, but it feels like the Harvest team has no innovative ideas to expand the service beyond its current scope. Review Source BN Bonnie N. No training or support required after over 6 months of daily use. I invoice my clients monthly and track my time daily. I love the ease of tacking via my phone or laptop. It is simple to set up various rates or project billing. Pros The ease of adding new clients and projects. It is also very flexible to track different rates, billable and non-billable time. Cons Really no complaints. Setting defaults for the projects under each client keeps the time tracking and billing clean. You can set a project for each client, have sub-projects under that client, track billable hours, non-billable hours, etc and then it even draws your teams timecards from the entries. Pros The app is excellent, great on web as well. The different methods that one can use to track their time fits any style. Cons I wish that Harvest gave employees the ability to look back at how thet have spent my time over a defined time period. Admins have this capability but rank and file employees do not. It’s user friendly and the set up is quite intuitive. Pros Harvest provides key insights for our team to make project planning decisions. Reports allow our team to get both high level progress views (are we on time and budget?) and more detailed breakdowns of problem areas (where did we go over budget?) Makes it easy for me to produce a processional bill and have the backend accounting of what I have billed for and what is outstanding. Pros I really like the ease of being able to record my time and generate an invoice for it. It has several settings you can pre-setup to make invoicing really fast at the end of each week. Cons I have to always change the pay by date. My current client only pays out on the 5th of each month, and there isn't a good way for me to customize it to a day of a month. You can setup net 10, 15, etc. Also I would love it if you could add say date fields to the subject line in the email and the PDF it generates. Both things I manually add each week. The company I work for does solely remote work, so Harvest keeps everyone accountable. It is easy to use, manage, and edit. Pros This is a great product for time tracking! I like how you can create different categories for time that way at the end of the month you can see where your time was really spent. For example, if you're working on a website, you can break down your time into categories such as site maintenance, website edits, client correspondence, etc. Cons When I use Harvest, I log into the site directly. I tried the app before, but there were some glitches. Either it would stop tracking when I wanted it to track, or keep tracking after I paused the timer. This could be user error, as a lot of my coworkers prefer the app, however the app wasn't for me. Pros Harvest is very useful to manage your time and know what you are investing it in. Both the application and the website work very well and give you a daily and weekly summary of what you have been doing. That way you can know if you are investing too much time in something you shouldn't or if you are not working enough on some project you should work more on. Cons It has not important extra features. It would be great to be able to export the data to different formats and even generate an invoice if needed. I think that would make the program much better. Review Source Jeff S. Harvest works well for consulting firms that need an easy way to track time against projects, but to also track time against various types of projects (e.g. fixed fee, hourly, time and materials, etc.). It can handle everything that you need, and can also connect with CRMs and other systems. Cons Harvest itself is a great application. It is easy to use and setup. However, the views for time entry can be hard to understand (specifically the weekly view) because users can capture hours but not include the descriptions. Review Source Geoff N.
