Fractional CFO Financial Services Used the software for: I used a free trial ### "Hidden $80 fee silently deducted from my first invoice — zero disclosure, zero refund, unhelpful support" March 20, 2026 1.0 Harvest solves time tracking and client invoicing for solo consultants and the product itself works well. However, the undisclosed $80 application fee on free trial accounts effectively makes the platform a costly trap for new users evaluating the software. The benefit of seamless invoicing is completely undermined when 7% of your invoice disappears without warning and support refuses to make it right. Pros The time tracking interface is clean and intuitive. Logging hours against specific clients and projects is straightforward, and converting tracked time into an invoice is seamless. The Stripe integration setup was also simple and quick. Cons Harvest silently deducts an $80 application fee from invoice payments on free trial accounts — on top of Stripe's standard processing fees. On my first $2,000 invoice, I received only $1,861.70 with zero prior warning. There is no disclosure during onboarding, no warning when setting up Stripe, and nothing shown before the client pays. Customer support was extremely unhelpful — they cited an irrelevant cancellation policy, failed to read my issue, and billing ultimately offered no resolution despite multiple follow-ups. I find it is reasonably priced but wouldn't suggest any significant increases as I would question my other options. Pros Very easy to use so an easy learning curve, two factor authentication ensures security, excellent timetracking and project job costing, I use this for billing and integrates with Xero accounting software. I haven't come across any bugs and/or issues and never had to contact customer support. I can increase or reduce my team numbers at any stage and my costs are instantly amended. Cons I manage payments via Xero and these do not flow through to Harvest. I find the reporting is limited as I would like to see the discounts I provide clients and do a little more reporting on clients billings etc. Review Source Sarah C. A little expensive for the individual plan but more competitive for premium vs. other options, so this clearly panders to company signups. Pros It's intuitive and easy to get started using the platform. Keeping track of time is pretty straightforward and there's a decent amount of features. Cons It would be fantastic if there could be different colored tabs. It's black and white at the top, which looks very nice as part of the overall simplistic theme, but it does make it more difficult to differentiate quickly. Cons When adding new users, it can be difficult to make sure they are setup in the right projects if you have a lot of different projects already. It would be ideal if you can copy profiles from one employee to another. It simplifies my time tracking and invoicing so I can focus on building applications. Pros I love the MacOS app, which sits at the top of my screen. In particular, I love the feature which detects when I've been inactive so I can remove any time I might have recorded when I'd accidentally left the timer running. Several of my clients have also commented on how well presented the time reports are that I send over to show where my billable time has been spent. Cons Although the Android application is useful, it doesn't have feature parity with the desktop website. You can't view things like the "uninvoiced amount" (if it is there, I can't seem to find it) which is something I check regularly on the desktop. That’s all I want from a tool. It does its job well. Pros It’s easy to use and never glitchy, which is important when tracking hours. Real time sync between phone app and laptop version. Cons That the work week is from Sunday to Saturday only and you can’t adjust that. The result is that it’s not synced perfectly with payroll (Rippling) work week. Never had any issues with it. It works, it's streamlined and does what I need it to do. Pros I love the way it shows your invoices, and tallys up your numbers for the month, year or set to custom. It's very simple to use and I've been using it for years alongside my business to track time and do my invoicing. It forms professional invoices and makes the process really easy to send to clients. There's also an app, that can be helpful. Cons I would like an easier download process for invoices (at the end of the month), so that I could download invoices all together, or from the invoice list, to click a download button and it just does it. I currently have to go into each invoice to download it separately. I'd love for team members to be a bit cheaper. The cost per seat holds me back from really utilizing it. But great for an individual. There are limited features on the app, but it has been helpful on occasion, would love to see the full features of Harvest on there. I also use to review and monitor my direct report's times. Pros I like that it is a simple, straightforward way to set up time tracking which is crucial for billable time. We are able to put together exactly the project codes needed, and I love the start and stop timer. Cons I have found the timer is sometimes glitchy and seems to get stuck which can leave time under-reported. It's super helpful to be able to see how long various tasks that I assign to team members are taking, and to be able to look at an overview of each of my projects as a whole and ultimately generate a nice looking invoice for clients. Pros I love how easy and intuitive is it to use Harvest. Tracking time across my various projects is completely painless, and it's super helpful to be able to generate reports and handle invoices! Different levels of user management allows us to set up staff to see their clients only. Invoicing is straight forward and allows for automatic recurring/retainer invoicing. Staff time tracking can be integrated into other software that we use so easier to keep track of them Cons When you set a time budget for each project you cant split it between tasks. November 27, 2024 4.0 Pros I like the most that its easy to setup and use. UI is getting but old but its simple and intuitive. Cons Their app constantly bugs out and starts using 20% of the processor. Are they running mining operation!? If you forget you timer over night time cannot be auto corrected. Even when app clearly shows that you have not used computer for 14h ours. When you press button to stop and remove those hours suddenly app forgets what's happening and states that no timer is running. At this point I consider this as a crypto miner and most likely I pay more a month for this sucker electrical bills than a subscription. It automates your invoice and tracks payments, so handy. And I love that it also has an app and you can track time live or go back and change as needed. Harvest was easy to set up and install and get everyone on the same page in about an hour. Pros Harvest is super easy to set up and start using right away for accurate time tracking on projects and work. Cons Costs, I know they need to make money but for time tracking in 2025 - it's not something that businesses want to pay more and more for something that's standard unless there are more value added with other features. October 23, 2024 4.0 Overall it's been a good experience. I've been using it for the past 1 1/2 years to manage my own time and also track project time for clients. Pros I like that it's fairly intuitive. The user interface is clean and friendly. It integrates well with Google Chrome. I find it easy to set up projects and track time. Cons I wish on an individual time card you could see what time (clock time) was logged instead of total time. I.e. see that 10 minutes was logged from 9:00-9:10 instead of just 10 minutes total.
