I do love being able to set limits on projects and getting emails when those limits are near. Pros I really enjoy using harvest because I do have a team of subcontractors who I need to keep reports of their time. Harvest makes it easy to report time used and set limits on projects. Cons I would love it if I could set up monthly recurring projects by date and not just month to month. Sometimes I have a retainer client that starts in the middle of the month and the monthly recurring feature resets at the end of the month, not when it's been 30 days. Support Engineer Information Technology and Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "The best time tracker I've ever used" May 9, 2022 5.0 I've used a lot of time trackers, many are just browser extensions so you have to be working in the browser to track your time, but with Harvest, because it's a native app, it can be use to track any event, online or offline. Pros This software has been a game changer for our company. The best feature is how intuitive it is. It knows when you've been idle and makes it easy to stop the timer and remove the idle time. So many times people forget to turn off their timers and this makes management a breeze. Cons I wish the initial use of the software was more intuitive, meaning, if you are typically starting your time every day at the same time, I'd like for it to present a notice like, "Would you like to start your timer?". I personally have tried others but I always like that using harvest is very easy and I can connect with other apps like Jira so time tracking becomes faster. Lately I noticed they had an interface redesign and I believe it is just great, made everything even better. Cons I find a little difficult to use on mobile, I am much more used to using on a desktop device. You can use timer for time tracking or you can record them later on. Pros It is amazing software which is easy to use and user friendly. Easy to see what is going on. Easy to track the time and expenses. Cons Time can be logged to a project and task. Expenses can only be logged to a project. Seems like they missed something here. With mileage expenses, you cannot enter stat/end miles. You have to track that on your own and enter in the total driven for each mileage expense. No way to associate a vehicle with an expense. Customer support doesn't seem to think any of the mileage features will ever be addressed. Virtually zero integration with common accounting tools like Quickbooks. Everything has to be transferred manually. Pros Exceptionally easy to use. Intuitive interface design that's obviously been user tested and refined. Every button and feature is exactly where you'd expect it to be. Cons This software does one thing really well – timekeeping. We've tried using solutions that try to do more and have gone back to Harvest because there's nothing we don't like about it. Pros Harvest is extremely easy to use. It requires no special training in order to get in and get to work. It's easy to edit your entries (i.e. start one project and hop to another, add and edits notes, etc.) I appreciate that it lets me know via email if I've accidentally left my timer running, so I can fix it. I get weekly time summary reports so I can see where my billable time has been spent. And I can run reports to see how much time overall has accrued on each project. I used to be spotty at completing timesheets, but this app makes it easy to do. Our small marketing agency does a great job now of tracking time, which has enabled us to negotiate project costs with clients more accurately. Cons There is nothing that is difficult to use. Although we don't bill per hour, it is still extremely important that we track our time so we know how much time is being dedicated on each client and where that effort is going. It allows us to stay efficient while also addressing any issues with specific clients before they get out of hand. Cons There are limited categories which presents a bit of a challenge to our agency. We really need to be able to drill down on where time is being spent and the lack of category options makes that more difficult because we have to rely on comments and then rectify that data at the end of the month. So far, so good! Pros I like having the Harvest desktop time tracker installed at the top of my desktop--I've found it really increases my awareness of how I'm spending my time. I bill hourly, so that is key! Cons I'm still figuring out how to use Harvest and it may just be overkill for my simple needs of tracking time. Setting up a new project takes a lot of time and I really don't need all the bells and whistles it offers because I have other tools for things like tracking expenses. I'm nearing the end of my free trial and on the fence about continuing with a paid subscription. I can't get it to track offline, so that it's an issue too--I like to work outside in parks and coffeeshops and be able to track offline. It has the potential to be an indispensable part of modern project-based businesses. Well, the answer is, this basic time tracking app solves several problems all at once. First of all, Harvest is available on all your devices and computers so, whenever you need to track time...voila there it is. It is super easy to set up and use, zero learning curve needed. It's nicely organized by client, so each project gets placed where it belongs. It has idle time detection to prevent inaccuracies. There are several options for arranging your time-based fees and you can even include your billable expenses. The information is not trapped in Harvest platform so you can import and export clients, invoices and other info to your other systems easily. You can easily send email invoices directly from your time-keeping records and accept payments online with integrations. In addition to budgeting time, you can also track expenses for each project in order to stay on track, both financially and time management-wise. This software plus Forecast gives you the potential to be increasingly accurate with time estimates for your clients. Once you take into account all of the software integrations and the API, you really have a valuable central point to manage your business. It helps that this software was developed by a team that had to solve these problems themselves. The company also seems to have good stewardship of the business in social justice and community arenas. I have not yet used the mobile app or API but I am definitely a fan of Harvest! Pros \-Intuitive user interface -Cute motivational quotes and illustrations -Great native desktop experience on the Mac -Wonderful integrations with other software, including Harvest's Forecast, Xero accounting and Stripe -A multi-functional API and mobile apps (IOS and Android)! Monthly invoices are also generated automatically through Harvest's invoicing tool. Pros Harvest is amazing for tracking time across multiple projects, for small-medium sized teams. It's important that time tracking is easy, so that everyone on your team uses it, and Harvest excels in this aspect by providing apps on all common platforms (phones & desktop). The time tracking integrates beautifully with the invoicing tool, allowing the whole process to happen within Harvest (at no additional cost!) Cons There's a few minor limitations in functionality like not being able to enable time rounding on customer reports/invoices. It would also be really nice if Harvest were to include more integrations that weren't run through Zapier. It gets the task done and is also helpful in making the team more efficient. Tracking our time was effortless. Pros Harvest is straightforward and easy to use. First-time users find it easy to learn navigating the platform. It can also be seamlessly integrated to project management programs such as ClickUp. It also has a built-in Invoicing feature for bout hours and expenses. Another awesome feature is being able to set budgets for every project, so you can have a quick overview of how much you have spent and can still spend on a project. Cons What I liked the least about Harvest is that once a person or a project has logged hours, the only option you have is to archive them, and not delete them. It seems to just clutter the workspace. One improvement that can be done is having a prompt whenever the tracker has been on for more than 5 hours, just to check if the timer has been left on, because sometimes we still forget to turn off the tracker. You can integrate it with Jira. You can set up a webhook with slack for reminders. Harvest has a mobile app as well as desktop app. The later can be configure to notify a user when they have be inactive for a while, and it gives an option to track that time as a different item Cons With Jira Integration, a project that is pre-selected is not consistent with the ticket. I actively used this software for managing deadlines and managing time to understand how much time is needed for a feature, or task. Some of the tasks that I tracked were like creating a new landing page, creating a portfolio, implementing mobile-friendly UI, etc.Freelancers can also use this tool to keep track of their time, and this software also helps us in generating invoices and track payments.Additionally, it can be integrated with widely used apps like asana, GitHub, slack, Trello, and even payment gateways like Paypal. Cons There are other similar products on the market that offer the ability to send contracts and proposals, as well as products for bookkeeping that integrate many of the same features for not much more in total cost. I've also used the estimating tool with great success. I also accept online payments through Harvest and Stripe. Pros Number 1: great value for the money. So much capability in one product, for a very low monthly fee. Number 2: They are constantly adding new features, but not half-baked ones. I get the impression the the product and engineering teams are very good at what they do. Cons Could use more customizing of expenses and taxes - I'd like to be able to add fees to invoices that are not taxes - like markups for Stripe fees. I wish they had an automatic tracker (other time-tracking services do), but for tracking multiple projects with multiple steps, Harvest is quick and easy. Pros It's easy to track my time, set up projects, and check time-budget statuses. Harvest has almost everything I need in a time-tracking software, and isn't a pain to use. Cons If I'm adding time after the fact (instead of starting the tracking timer), I have to put minutes in as an hour format (i.e. five minutes would be :05). I have had to go back and change my entered time because of this (accidentally tracking 5 hours instead of 5 minutes). It can was confusing to find my monthly timesheet at first. After all, who needs Team Members making errors with your TIME! Pros The most important factor is Ease of Use and Harvest shines, the second is its integration with 80 of the top of the line of today's work tools. There are tons of features - we use Forecast and find it invaluable for Team Leaders to scope out their week's work-load and delegate. Thirdly, their customer support is brilliant - no muss, no fuss. The added bonus is that adjusting time at task once the timer has been closed is easy, and did I mention they send a friendly reminder when you've left a timer running? Oh Yes - we do that sometimes too! Cons It's hard to think of a really thorny issue - these guys have worked everything together slowly over the years. It's a a balanced appraoch - the Forecast Add-On is slowly expanding and deepening and there will no doubt be features added that a user would like, for example more zoom in and out to break down to week and day. That is about it really - this is solid Dev-Product, not some rushed-out-to-get-Trials company.
