They didn't set up my account properly. they made an early payment to the CA Tax for no reason, and didn't file anything while doing so. then, they didn't file my tax on time, and I received a notice of delinquency. the worst is I gave them 3 weeks to fix the issue, and they didn't do anything except finding excuses, and telling me about "' backfiring" . I fixed the issue myself in 5 mins calling the CA Tax department. in the meantime, they were never answering any email, they didn't seem to care about my issue, or lose me as a client. If you have a question they are fairly quick to get back to you and provide specific support. Pros Ease of use and navigation of support questions. There is a lot of capabilities in the system depending on your business structure. Any questions that you might have about using the software is available for non users in the support search. Cons Support emails. Blocky and convoluted, they notify you if there is a support request made. They become hard to follow with the generated support number and when the request has been elevated to another department or specialist. I mostly just archive the emails without looking at them as they tend to be redundant (which has had me miss some important emails unfortunately). Pros It is well automated and does most of the work of the compliance for you. Cons Customer service can be very basic. Sometimes if there are notices it's hard to get a hold of somebody to discuss and it can be a pain to get a POA when we just want to discuss the issue. Our company does business in all 50 states and it is hard to keep up with the changing tax rates. Having Avalara by our side gives us confidence that the taxes we are charging the customer are correct. Cons has grown a lot since we started using them. Our company was one of the first. For a while, it seemed as though it was taking Avalara a bit more time to respond to our requests and inquiries, but the company has added more staff and the response rate has improved. Pros Using the add-on for SAP has made tax calculations something that our users don't ever worry about when performing their work in SAP. Cons Customer services is a bit on the slow side. We have a user that occasionally calls for support and waits nearly an hour before getting service. VP Business Supplies and Equipment Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Very Buggy" July 1, 2019 3.0 I use with Quickbooks Enterprise. It causes a lot of problems. Can't be used with multiple companies open but I can work around that. The software pops up when not expected and keeps you from sending email invoices withing the QB app. Address verification pops up on one computer for the address that another user is entering on a different computer. Customer service is non existent. After entering a ticket, you get the auto generated response then nothing after that. 1st ticket got an actual response after 4 business days. A second ticket never had a response. Pros It does what it says it is supposed to do. Account Manager Retail Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Helped Keep tax straight on website" April 20, 2021 5.0 We used it to integrate with our website to collect the correct tax rates for each area we had nexus. It also helped us as we remitted tax payments to those states. Pros It made life easier as our ecommerce site grew and regulations changed. We can have more trust we are collecting the correct tax amounts and they can remit to necessary states. Cons It is expensive. While it does a lot of work for us and works for what we need. It is slightly more expensive than some other options out there. However, when you factor in labor saved, it is worth it. When you log in and look at the details, the breakdown is extremely helpful. Cons I get an Avatax plug in error every couple of months, and resolving the issue takes a couple of days. Have since switched to another vendor whose product actually works as advertised. Pros Currently I don't have anything good to say about - their support is awful and the product doesn't work as they say it does during the sales process. Cons We were never able to fully implement because ended up not functioning with our billing system, despite being told during the sales process that it was an easy "one-click" integration. They charged us up front for a year and then provided little to no support in implementation. It's impossible to get a response from them. Pros I like the reliability of the software, the lack of problems that arise, and the degree of simplification it brings to what could be a difficult process. Cons I feel that some of the integrations with third parties could be improved, namely QuickBooks, as the ability to run batches of invoices has never worked for me despite numerous attempts to fix this with customer support. I also believe that the customer service has been drastically reduced over the last year based on some recent experiences. We needed a more accurate way to charge sales tax, down to the county, city, and specific area when it comes to California. Alvalara AvaTax can do just that! It has saved us so much time in calculating this ourselves. Cons It is not very customizable and is not 100% accurate. It basically just rounds differently, so you have to get used to that. April 6, 2018 5.0 Lots of time saved, peace of mind regarding rates charged and filings. Pros The website is fairly easy to use once you get used to it, including the Avatax and Avacerts websites. Integration was relatively painless with Netsuite and was mostly handled by the team. No having to worry about rates being correct. With the filing service no having to worry about tax filings. Cons The software is fairly expensive, and there are no like-for-like alternatives on the market. Some of the tier breaks are strange (specifically with the certificate capturing portion). Doing a few things isn't as intuitive as it could be, such as taxing a regularly exempt customer one time on a specific order. Review Source JL Jessica L. They are just about to get us sent to collections because their reporting is so bad. Pros Their tax calculations seem reasonably accurate. March 19, 2018 3.0 Pros We use CertCapture to track all the Resale Exemption Certificates for dealers. It is nice that you can add more than one certificate per dealer, you can add multiple cert's at once for many dealers, and you can run a campaign from within CertCapture. Cons The biggest thing I don't like about CertCapture is that once you add a certificate, you have to refresh the page for it to show up in your queue to work it, then you have to click it & review it, THEN refresh the page again & wait for it to show in the queue again. All before finally clicking & assigning the cert to a dealer. Review Source BS Bill S.
