It was good while it lasted. They could not certify for MIPS and we had to leave.

Pros

There was great customer service but it did not keep up with the updates.

Cons

Did not keep up with updates and they fell behind the market.

Our experience is frustrating at this point. It preforms a number of functions fairly well, but only in the basic sense. Stability is poor. There are few viable interfaces with companies that perform functions MP can't provide. While other EHR have developed modern features in claims management, eligibility checks, patient engagement, AI functions in the EHR, referral management features, etc., MacPractice has been neglected by it owner, whose intent seems mainly to milk license fees from it's existing customers.

Pros

When we switched from eClinicalWorks in 2013, we liked the all in one solution (practice management and EHR). "Orders" section allows us to track work through the patient's care with us. It is the best feature. EHR forms can be done from the portal and they drop answers into the EHR templates. This is useful. Pretty good ePrescribe function. The scheduling interface/function is pretty good, or at least well designed, though it lacks modern features, like search for next available appointments or waitlists. The attachments section is well designed as a virtual patient file for PDFs and faxes. Billing function is basic but works fine. The EHR is also fine, but basic. MacPractice has to create templates, but the gentlemen that does it is very responsive.

Cons

The new owners have essentially stopped developing MacPractice. Valsoft also increased fees, but with no added value or features provided. Stability has declined a lot since the Change Healthcare hack. We have constant shut downs of multiple users' desktop software (not the onsite MP server) which results in lost data and work disruption. After the Change Healthcare hack, the built in insurance benefits check feature, which was useful, no longer works. ERAs used to work for most insurance, but not since the Change debacle. Outstanding claims management has nearly no reporting and few organizing tools. We have to work claims individually and there is not report on the most common reasons for denials, and we can't organize such claims into groups to work. We are forced to open each claim to see what is going on. There is no batch posting of paid claims, so each claim is posted individually. Patient payments are arcane and only work with a credit card in person, no online or text link payments. MacPractice doesn't interface with many services, and those it does are not modern or with good features. For example, the vendor that does reminders and patient engagement is not good so we use Weave instead, but MP doesn't partner with them, so it's not supported. The patient portal is nearly useless. We use it only for patients to complete questionnaires. Overall, MacPractice is not keeping up with the needs of its customers and the software is aging. I once thought that the Mac platform would simplify the IT picture, but soon after we adopted it, Apple dropped its focus on business markets and focused on iPhones. It was a bad move for us since the Mac hardware and software ecosystem is not build for business.

Switched from

[eClinicalWorks](https://www.capterra.com/p/120360/eClinicalWorks/)

eCW was a mess, unreliable, disjointed, and support was horrible.

Pros

I have been with this company for 10 years. The previous \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] was not open to improve the product and thus it has been purchased from a company called Valsoft. The product is simple to use. The graphic are the best in the industry. The software has NEVER gone down. It is server based. The customer service is top in the industry. You can either create a ticket or call mac practice directly. A service rep usually calls back within one half hour. For urgent problems, you are directly connected. Platform is Apple. The app's in the iPad are exceptional.

Cons

Sadly, the software is significantly behind other software due to the original \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\]. If they were up to industry standards, this product would be number one in the country.

I have worked with many different EHR products and this is by far one of my favorite due to the excellent customer service and technical support, ease of use, and simple functions.

Pros

MP is extremely user friendly with a very low learning curve for new users. Customer service is insanely accessible and friendly. EHR makes charting quick and simple which keeps the provider/patient interaction unobstructed by computers.

Cons

Some reporting features could be more customizable to include more query options. Patient outreach and clinical reporting could be improved if more query choices were available.
