Pros: Very powerful visualization. Easy to use. Numerous features. Versatile visualization. Easy data manipulation.

Cons: Don't like the fact that the free version needs to be published to show the visualization. But it is understood.

Pros: The software is so easy to use. I learnt the basic functionalities within a very short time. You can create data visualizations of large data sets within minutes. There are also I wide variety of visualizations available from charts to maps. The software is also easy to install and can connect to a wide range of data sources from MySQL to MongoDB, to Amazon Redshift.

Cons: The cost is a downfall for me. I note on their site that the cost is billed annually which may cause individuals and small businesses with a small amount of persons not to be able to afford it right away. If they could pay for the product per month, that would be useful.

Pros: Visuals are stunning. The UI is designed to be usable by non-developers, and gives such individuals "enough power to be dangerous"

Cons: Logging is extremely verbose and "all over the place", and even with the limited built in retention features, you will quickly run out of disk space if you don't come up with your own solution.

Pros: The visuals are stunning! I've used a lot of different software for a run and/or visualize data analytics and none of them come close to this level of quality in the output. It's also incredibly easy to use.

Cons: When we run issues with data sources we always depend on help from the tech team. Software updates also only work when we update our data bases as well, so sometimes it takes some time until we are able to take advantage of new features etc. With the latest update I've also experiences problems with frequent crashing.

Pros: How easy it is to configure dashboards using our data. The many options for scheduling instead of real time is great as well.

Cons: When you create multiple dashboards under one logon it is cumbersome to get to the main pages you want to view after logging in.

Overall: We now do not have to create daily spreadsheets and send out reports to our customers. All the data is visible using Tableau and they can logon and run their data whenever and however often they choose.

Comments: The usage of the Tableau is very easy and could create a project and publish it on online easily. The one complicated thing is that not easy to create a hierarchy of dates. You have to use more parameters. And if they should serve a one-shot license policy, the price is too high.

Pros: To generate scripts easily for embedding the charts in your own application, Authentication management

Cons: The price is too high and not sustainable. They must add one-shot license policy option also to make more custormer.

Comments: Overall, Tableau is a great software that can deliver very nice visual interpretation to data.

Pros: The new version/ update has been a great help with the functionality and moreover with the accesiblity or easy interface of the software. I can carry a huge chunk of data or connect data from different sources. The dashboards are easy to understand and my team can just click any of the tabs and get instant results. I also like that this software can be used in different platforms be it Windows, iOS, Android etc.

Cons: Pricing wise it is not as competitive with its pricing since there are other software that can deliver the same with lesser cost. Intensive training and technical know how is required.

Pros: One of the most powerful tools that I've used. It has helped us answer so many business questions. You will never go back to Excel. It does everything Excel does and 100 times more. The power of being able to connect directly to your database, live, and quickly build dashboards and trends is amazing.

Cons: There is a steep learning curve in understanding how calculations work, levels of detail, etc. But if you know database structure and are able to make charts in Excel, you'll quickly figure it out.

Overall: Completely changed the way our company uses data. Increased visibility and ability of managers to accurately see what is happening in their areas. It makes it easy when business questions come up to quickly build a visualization to get at the answers.

Pros: It doesn't require a lot of training for a first time user to start creating dashboards. The structure is intuitive and it comes with a lot of predefined macros and functions which makes creating dashboards fast and easy. It provides the option of connecting directly to the database tables in case of a simple manipulation of data as well as the option of extracting the data using a custom SQL query.

Cons: One of the worst features of Tableau is that there is no support for previous versions file types. Once you have upgraded to a newer version of Tableau , you are unable to save file in an older format. I faced this challenge when I upgraded to version 10.3 but my server was accepting files created by versions till 10.1 to publish. So, there was no way for me inside the software to make my file version 10.1 compatible.

Comments: A special mention should be made about their student policy. I started with the software because the company gave me a one year access while I was in school, and I brought the knowledge I acquired with it to my employers. It is a great way of promoting the software and giving students a great tool for their resume at the same time.

Pros: Tableau¿s productivity suite allows you to connect it to all data sources we¿re already using in a matter of minutes. This maximized our analysts' productivity, moving their tasks from the mostly mechanical to the analytical. It is incredibly easy to use; it is intuitive even for non-savvy users, and doesn¿t took time, programming knowledge, or expensive training for our team to get a grasp on it. Its collaboration features facilitate group analytics, and at the same time ensure that all team members are on the same page. The best part about it is the devoted mobile app for different devices, which allowed our sales representatives to work from wherever they are. Last, but not least, their tech support team is unmatched in service and follow-up.

Cons: Even with all the flexible options they provide, it's still a pricey solution. However, it is totally worth it

Pros: The "visualizations", as they call them, look amazing and are easy to create once you learn a little about the software. There are plenty of training resources out there for learning how to use Tableau, just Google it. It was not hard to learn to use at all.

Cons: Though it's easy to quickly get your visualization 80% of the way there, it can take some fiddling around with the controls to get that last bit of tweaking. It wants to operate at such a high level, giving good results with just a few clicks, that often I found it difficult to figure out how to tweak a small detail. So, yeah, sometimes the details are hard to dial in as the interface can be confusing for that.

Pros: Tableau is such a neat and useful tool for data mining! I am able to go and in real time watch as sales are updated and broken down by whatever parameters I choose.

Graphs or crosstabs can be generated and downloaded in just one click and are handy to have around for presentations or just to compare progress.

Cons: There is not a lot to say about Tableau that is negative. There has been only one time where Tableau and an internal program we use were not communicating to each other properly, but the dev team quickly sorted out the issue and there hasn't been an issue since!

Overall: The ability to compare and contrast data using different metrics on a daily/weekly basis.

Pros: Tableau is much more dynamic than alternative reporting tools such as Salesforce reports/dashboards. There are endless opportunities to manipulate data through formulas, visualize in animation, and tell a customized story.

Cons: Connectivity to existing databases is complex and strenuous on systems. Our integration with Marketo takes 2+ hours to feed data into it each time we open tableau and causes enormous setbacks in reporting capabilities.

Pros: I have been using Tableau Desktop for over five years now and I still get excited about it. First, Tableau is so easy to learn and use--the intuitive interface allows even first-time users to create amazing visualizations. Second, Tableau is a time saver. What used to take me weeks now takes days and what used to take days now takes minutes. Third, Tableau is versatile. There are many different chart types available, and with the ability to tweak everything from size to font to color, your imagination is the only limit. Fourth, Tableau is always evolving and improving. With each update, Tableau adds new features and capabilities that continuously make my job easier to perform. The software is capable of connecting with data in many different formats from spreadsheets and SQL to PDF's and spatial files, making it useful for any field or company that works with data. I could go on and on about the benefits of using Tableau, but the best way to understand my enthusiasm is to try the product--it speaks for itself!

Cons: Sometimes large data files can take several minutes to load. Tableau allows for the creation of extracts to speed up the process, but the initial upload still takes time. Tableau also does not have an auto-save feature, which has caused me to lose work on several occasions.

Overall: Tableau has allowed our office to look at data in new ways. Whether we're using it for data exploration or dissemination, it makes the information easy to understand and use, even for newbies. In the past, we used spreadsheets and PDFs to share data with various constituents, but they were dense and only offered a static view of the data. Now, with interactive dashboards, end-users can not only search for the exact information they need, they can also see how it fits into the big picture. This capability has led people to ask more questions and actually get excited about data and assessment. Tableau allows us to answer those new questions quickly and accurately than before.

I have used tableau both professionally as well as in my graduate academic pursuits.

Pros: Tableau provides a drag and drop interface that can help to visualize large amounts of data. As someone who codes, the graphics that tableau produces are much more finished and complete looking than most graph outputs I have historically created. It allows for a wide variety of graphs as well as data manipulation within the tool.

Cons: Tableau is a bit expensive for all that it entails. I've had several employers begin moving away from Tableau in favor of cheaper or open source items. Since Tableau has so much functionality and flexibility it is not always easy to understand how to achieve your design goals. In addition, the software tries to make assumptions about what type of graph you are trying to produce, and these are not always correct, which can be annoying and cumbersome.

Pros: Easy to understand, use and implement. Single step connectivity to any of the files or Data sources. Get the data from anywhere and create the visualizations in a quick way. Lot many options to explore and you feel wow when you see amazing visualizations being created. Analytics is something that makes Tableau to be different from its competitors. So body can even get to the height of Tableau in the near future.

Cons: Cost is little on the higher side. If you want to utilize the few features of Tableau then you will have to shell out heavy as a single user licence. Otherwise the best one to use

Comments: We used Tableau to combine over 2 million lines of health claims data from Excel spreadsheets with approximately 85 data points per line. Tableau made it possible for our team to compare each line of data and locate the specific lines of data that indicated problems within the coding for health benefits. After locating the issues and fixing the coding, we used Tableau to compare the data again and validate that the potential issues were corrected. Without the use of a tool like Tableau, our comparison process would have taken weeks longer, and would have been less effective.

Pros: Able to gather large pieces of data from multiple spreadsheets and combine them to create a cohesive picture Flexibility in creating different types of reports and graphs for sharing with a variety of audiences Overall, most functions were easy to learn, and once the graphs were created, it was easy to copy them and alter them for additional purposes

Comments: I was so excited to go to my first user group meeting after seeing the truly beautiful vizes for the first time and had one of the biggest letdowns of my life. The session was tangentially related to the topic they emailed me about daily, and after a week, i found out that the pretty viz i saw looked just like every other viz and little else was available. With Power BI, IBMs new tools, and some of the boutique firms offering products that look great and also have real functionality, you would at least expect a reasonable price. Well guess what. It¿s more expensive than Excel 16:..

Pros: The ability to create clean, intuitive dashboards straight from flat files or databases is very nice, and the end user with a read only account can navigate a well made page with little instruction

Cons: Calling tableau analytics software is like calling Word a project management tool. I can see cross sections and graphs of simple (and even unrelated variables), but any type of statistical processes, root cause analysis, or basic drill downs is not only difficult, it is actully impossible based on their user guides and customer support.

Pros: I was having a hard time with our ERP that needed to generate reports, then messing with them on Excel so that I could get some graphics and valuable data to make purchasing decisions, since implementing Tableau I have my Dashboards published and I'm able to access data on the go. This has impacted my work so that we are making better decisions when it comes to purchasing and procurement.

Cons: I only think that the learning curve is pretty steep, not that it's terribly complicated, but you need some patience and skills to get the reports you need, the availability of tutorials and resources online makes this way easier.

Overall: Having my dashboards published and being able to get to the most crucial KPI's when in a negotiation with a vendor, is what has given me the most value in my current position. Also, being able to review the productivity of my procurement team is key to my day to day operation.

Pros: I use tableau as an analyst every day and I like the ability to create rich visualizations from different kinds of datasets. If you are of a creative and problem solving mindset there is almost a limitless set of complex Vizzes that you can design using Tableau.

Cons: I think Tableau can be less than intuitive. While there is almost unlimited capabilty, often it's difficult to immediately understand what is required to solve your problem. It's good however that there is a huge customer base and forums that can help you. It's often better to solve your problems in the database rather than with Tableau. Use it as the Viz layer as much as you can and try to limit usage of it in doing calculations, especially with big datasets. Performance can degrade.

In the dashboard design there should be a little bit more finetuning of the interface. Can't copy/paste items which would be a nice feature.

Customer support staff are extremely professional and friendly - if you can get a hold of them. Tableau support has fallen away recently I have found.

Overall: Streamlined our reporting - provided informative dashboards to our executive team and staff.

Pros: Create powerful data viz products with a 'wow' factor relatively easy.
Plenty of self-instruction videos and forums. Formal training not necessary.
Useful for both technical user exploratory analysis and non-technical customer facing dashboards.
Tableau Reader is free, so you potentially have an unlimited audience within your organization.

Cons: Can be finicky about certain things but you learn your way around them.
Software updates are way too frequent. We have a large customer base and it's challenging to keep track of who needs to upgrade to which Tableau Reader version.
Certain features such as scheduled refreshes are reserved for Tableau Server.

Pros: Tableau has a very intuitive UI, which makes it really easy to use & understand. Tableau provides great data drill down and drill up features. Tableau is highly robust in managing vast amounts of data. It is really fast in its analysis and has range of dashboard & report creation features. It is also compatible with most of the existing databases & systems. Tableau allows drag and drop to create quick charts and graphs.

Cons: There is nothing that is really not well about Tableau except its data warehousing capability which needs slight improvement in the data modelling capability.

Comments: This software was adopted at my company for its ease of use, cost, and ease of sharing information. The distribution of information is important for the company as information cannot reside in the cloud due to information security.

Pros: The software is very user friendly and easy to establish. There a lot of things inherently built into the software that allow for easy display of information and base analytics.

Cons: While the software is great, especially with it's low cost, heavier analytics is either performed by the user themselves or would have to have an intimate knowledge or R or some other tool.

Pros: After a few short lessons, users will be able to use the software with Excel very easily. There are a ton of instructional videos out there that can give you a good idea of how to use the software, then you can just run with the knowledge and create your own thing.

Overall: Better visual representation of data

Pros: Slice through data with ease and create insights that would not be possible in Excel or other data applications that handle data.

Cons: It's tricky to setup a MYSQL connection to a database on the desktop application, other applications are better.

Overall: Business performance improvements - conversion improvements.

It's easy to use, powerful, and makes great presentations.

Pros: Importing databases and viewing data in a variety of formats and graphics is as easy as a few mouse clicks. Setting up custom displays takes a bit more work and was a bit confusing, but overall it wasn't that hard.

Cons: May be a bit pricey for some (like management), but was worth it in the end. Also, the standard viewing templates tend to be all bunched up, could use an easier to organize drop down menu to keep the screen from being cluttered.

Overall: Crisp, clean displays of information for reporting to management. Basically able to skip Excel and go right from a database to Tableau.

Very friendly tool to use and focuses heavily on usability, meaning everybody can be an expert...!!!

Pros: Easiest visualization tool I have ever used. The tool has the power to complete any analysis put in front of me and allows me to visualize it in a simple manner.

Cons: Formatting can be difficult at times. The formatting process takes much more time than it should due to manual requirements.

Comments: There are probably better programs out there but if you are looking for an affordable solution and one with a great team backing it - definitely give Tableau a chance in your research of a BI tool.

Pros: Drag and drop user interface makes data management much easier than ever before. With Tableau you essentially can view results in a matter of seconds from each additional layer or section of data you add to your dashboard or KPI's.

Cons: Even though it is an easy program to learn, it takes time to invest in it's entire capability (just like any other program). You'll also want to make sure you are familiar with data to start with.

Pros: Best product for data visualizations and business intelligence solutions.Provides ease of use for interactive data visualization dashboards offering a new revolutionary approach to make better decisions faster. Can share analysis and your organization can access your dashboards.

Cons: Formatting using the control button to drop down and look at default properties should be enhanced. Single valued list with radio buttons, drop down on the filter to show all value customizations and table calculations are little complex for beginners to comprehend and use.

Feature-rich tool for meaningful visualizations.

Comments: Would love to see a less expensive version for every day users.

Pros: The options available for presenting data; from simple dashboards to more elaborate story boards. There's excellent flexibility in how presentations are shared (via web, static pdf, permission-based access).

Cons: It is not an easy piece of software to learn once beyond the basics. It is a fairly intuitive software initially, but the more complex tasks take considerable time to master.

Pros: It has a very great interface. Very easy to use. Tableau also lets you make charts and dashboards quickly. These things used to take so much time in powerpoint and other tools. There are so many features that no one I know can say that he has a complete grip of everything that Tableau can do.

Cons: Working with time series data can take a lot of data cleansing before hand. Also, it can be difficult to make data relationship links that work in the direction of your intended use.

Pros: Extremely useful in turning large amounts of data into useful visualisations. Personally, this was the best feature of this software as it allowed me to create visualisation to present to the rest of my team/client.

Cons: It's not a particularly easy-to-use software. Requires some time in getting around it and knowing how to use it

Overall: The main benefit was the possibility of turning large amounts of data into simple / easy-to-understand visualizations

Comments: Overall one of the best BI Tools out there, with some time invested it can be a powerful tool for any kind of analysis.

Pros: It's a very nice tool in terms of visuals, with a lot of options and it's very easy to make visual changes, even compared to other bi tools. It's very easy to start using and the connections to diferent data sources is pretty simple and intuitive, given you have some analytical background, even if it is with excel.

Cons: If you want to do more advanced dashboards and analysis, like an elaborated cohort dashboard you will have some trouble, but with some time invested to understand how the software works it's perfectly possible. even though the community and the support is very helpful. Also, the desktop software as well as the server is sort of heavy, it needs some processing power if you want it to run smoothly, especially if you have a lot of data. Another con is the high cost for companies.

Pros: Lots of easy to use connectors to useful data sources. Easy to present the data in an appealing and easy to understand manner. Filtering and sorting make it easy to use on the fly.

Cons: Some features were not intuitive and had to find an example/tutorial to implement, there might be some help features here but I'm not aware of them. So a better help feature that includes examples might make this program even better. The program has been adding useful features each version, but earlier I had to rely more upon R integration to get the results .

Overall: Gave an edge over Excel and easier than programming in R or python. Very responsive.
