April 25, 2017 5.0 To help readers track across the page within a rows-and-columns chart, consider using soft and subtle lines between the rows (such as gray lines instead of black ones). Or use bands of very soft and subtle shading on alternate rows. Be careful not to use strong shading, which can distort the look of the symbols and make it harder to see any patterns in the chart. To make groups of symbols such as stars easier to read at a glance, keep the symbols close together so they create a visual "block." Also, rather than centering the symbols, left-justify them so that it is easy to see which groups are longer than others (similar to reading a bar graph by paying attention to the length of the bar). Try to avoid using footnotes on a data display. The need to check on what's in the footnote puts a greater cognitive burden on the users. Moreover, some footnotes are easy to miss, and some users don't know what footnotes are or how they are usually signaled for a reader.Use Color in a Consistent and Meaningful Way Color is a powerful tool for helping people skim information and pick out important patterns, such as the best and worst performers. This allows for minimal distractions and helps keep me on task. One of the key features to a good time tracking tool is making sure it doesnt waste the users time. Cons It can get 'glitchy' at times. However, during the busy summer and winter months I find it necessary to use an application that lets me kind of do my own thing - Tick is the answer to that. Pros I'm a freelance writer and there are certain points of the year when I find myself working on many (very many) projects at one point. See, I get "bored" with one thing I'm doing, and feel the need to switch to another. While a majority of my projects are fixed-rate, I do have clients who prefer to be billed hourly. Tick makes it ultra-easy to switch between projects, keeping my brain busy and happy and my clients fairly billed. Cons I want the floating timer back! Where did it go? It really helped me with time management on a personal level. Used the software for: ### "Great product/service" January 6, 2017 5.0 My clients need to see a breakdown of the hours they're billed each month. Tick's integration with Basecamp (I'm still using Basecamp Classic) makes it really easy to generate great looking, easy to follow time reports for my clients. I highly recommend Tick to anyone handling their own billing and time tracking. My business handles 100s of projects per month, and my only critique is that it can be a bit tedious to keep projects synced up to date with Basecamp (so the actual hours are reflected in Tick) every time I need to generate a report. For example, if I have a project open in Basecamp and weeks have gone by without a time entry, Tick will stop pulling over any new time entries made in Basecamp after that point. Oftentimes projects will have long periods where we're waiting to hear back from clients, and then weeks later new time entries are added. In this situation the new time entries do not show up in Tick and the project will have to be manually re-syced with Basecamp, one project at a time. This is where it gets time consuming and tedious if you're dealing with hundreds of projects per month, where weeks may go by before a project is completed. Sets a budget that is easy to understand and that everyone can follow. Truly a great piece of software. Pros This is a very straightforward piece of software. It is very easy to add time from anywhere and anyone can learn how to do it. You can also enter notes about the timecard which is extremely convenient when there are multiple managers. It also helps you stay on task by having running timers. You can also set it up to show what the budget is for time so it helps everyone stay on task! It's a money saver! It is also SO affordable, I don't know what we did before this! Cons There is nothing bad to say about this. It's straightforward, easy to use, and you can enter time from anywhere. March 22, 2017 5.0 As a graphic designer, I work on many different jobs for my company. This tool has helped me tremendously. When I need to run a report on my time on specific jobs, it is very quick and easy. I also like being able to make specific tasks to break out my time to different categories. And being able to write notes to that has helped me many times when I have needed to explain the time spent. Pros Easy to use. Run reports, make notes, break out specific tasks Cons I need to look into things more to see if this is a function I missed, but since I break out specific tasks, I'd like to run a report just in order of day, not order of day within the breakout task so that I can see it all in order by day. The web interface is great. Reports are useful to let me see hours for each team member for specific date ranges. A few pieces of feedback: the Mac app is a little buggy, sometimes slow to load. The iPhone app is good but it doesn't let you view reports like the web interface - I think the app is just a web page fit inside an app. Could be better designed. But it works for tracking time. I also really like the reporting capabilities because I analyze my data to inform decisions. Cons I like the naming systems the least only because there are some cases where the Task is the same across projects and clients but it is much easier to add new labels that they are very hard to consolidate among all coworkers. I think it looks good and is user friendly. The only suggestion I have would be to allow input in hours and minutes rather than a decimal. I think having both options as well as the timer you currently have would be perfect. Pros It's easy to use and looks visually appealing. Additionally, it helps immensely that I can access it through an app or through my desktop. Cons I struggle sometimes to remember how to delete, archive various projects or tasks.
