Pros Smartsheet takes all the benefits of Excel and creates an intuitive and super-simple to use platform. We use it to manage construction jobs and track job costs and documents all in one place. And the platform could not be more affordable! With other construction project management software, what you pay for one year of Smartsheet will get you maybe a week for those other platforms. If you wanted to use just the basic sheets or take advantage of their feature rich workspaces and templates, you can use Smartsheet to track projects, office operations and costs, and as a document center (we use it to track our subcontractors certificates of insurance expirations dates), Smartsheet is definitely invaluable to us as a central project and operations management system that we can all access anywhere. Cons Smartsheet cannot completely manage a project, meaning you will have to incorporate other tools (like budgeting software) to fully monitor and analyze the profitability of a project. Smartsheet keeps the raw data in one place, but does not help to analyze and make sense of it. This is a great competitor to anything Microsoft charges double to provide. Pros Great for collaboration and large scale team deployment. The spreadsheet is easy to use and easy to train. Because it is just like using any other spreadsheet the focus is making a team more productive and efficient with multiple sources of contribution. Cons The mobile/tablet app has some restrictions that don't make a lot of sense. There are features hidden away for those not on the web app that seem completely arbitrary. The android app in particular has bugs that still need attention. Customer support is lacking in response. I'm hoping that these will be worked out in future updates. I am able to avoid having to constantly recalculate dates by hand (thankfully). I am finally able to track which portion(s) of the project are truly burning down through the use of the "critical path." With smartsheet, I will be able to determine when our team is over-extended to prevent us from missing another deadline. Pros I liked the drag and drop for the most part, and it did not freeze when I rearranged the tasks. The dependencies automatically update (which was nice, as I had one spreadsheet that completely fell apart) and it did not crash when I loaded in my files; which was really great. Cons During exporting my final PDF (to send to my sponsor), the font sizes would get distorted and you could not even modify the text format in the preview screen. This is ridiculous. It has professionalised customer support services available 24/7. The software allows milestone tracking and real-time progress tracking. I have found a way to do almost everything I want with the program, even if it takes a few helper columns and a couple reports to get everything just right on the final dashboard. But having forms and summary reports available for everyone at one click is an absolute gamechanger! Pros Smartsheet is so much more customizable and flexible than using Excel and Word and OneDrive to accomplish the same tasks. We can create custom reports and dashboards so end-users can see exactly what they're looking for without having to scroll or search or schedule meetings to get the answers they need. Cons Sometimes the functionality seems limited. For instance, I can set reports to sort automatically, but I cannot set sheets to sort automatically. We need to manually sort them or right-click and reset the sorting filters each time. The dashboard feature has helped a lot with being able to track the information we need in a detailed report, but only display the hard numbers for the executive team that may not want all the metrics we're tracking. Pros Dashboards and able to restrict/grant access to invested parties without too much confusion. The workflows feature is nice also, helps with alerting the team of certain points in project without overloading them with info that doesn't necessarily pertain to their role. Cons If I had to pick a con, it would be the price point. It took a long time to convince my company to buy into this solution due to the price point. Although they liked all the features, the price point made this a lot more difficult on my end to get the buy in.
