Automated workflows Cons Lacks some features in terms of multiple job scheduling, collecting data from ERP sources, sending data. Sometimes cumbersome and slow when you have a multiple functions in one sheet. Has been getting slower as we implement more ideas. Pros Amazing ease and a great interface that users of all ages agree on! Cons 3rd party integration could be more upfront which I believe is high priority. This has helped with tracking my progress in processes, and eliminated the need for reporting up, as my superiors can view my progress in real time. I found learning the software to be fairly easy, and recognized many opportunities presented by Smartsheet for further education. Pros I use Smartsheet daily to track personnel processes, such as recruitment efforts, termination procedures, and the completion of development reviews. I have used other software before, but Smartsheet affords me with the opportunity to freely share the data with other coworkers and management easily and immediately. I also really appreciate the automatic save feature, and the prompt to update with other's changes. I tend to stay in my Smartsheets all day long so this is particularly helpful for updates. I like the ability to attach documents. Cons I found the Filter feature to be a bit clunky; That design needs some work. I'd like to be able to change fonts within fields, such as making individual words bold. Manipulating rows within the sheets could be streamlined. It's challenging when you want to move a series of rows to another location on the same sheet. It becomes a two-step process: Creating the space for the rows in the new location, and then cutting or copying and inserting them in the new space. Pros Integration, Vlookup and reference sheet capabilities, automation and workflows. Cons We were able to accidentally delete 382 lines of data with attachement last week with no way of reverting the sheet back past that point. This might seem like a low blow, but with Google Docs I can revert to any saved version at any time. This NEEDS to be a feature on smartsheets considering the capacity for data that can be put into a sheet. Manually re-entering data from an excel backup, provided the hard data, but not the attachments. This is a SERIOUS flaw. Reason for choosing Smartsheet Company choice. Review Source Girish P. I like that I can share via a link to anyone and they don' have to have a SmartSheet account, and they can even make edits if I allow them. Cons I'm the admin and when one of my users leaves, you can only migrate their project plans to a single user. I wish I could pick some plans to go to person A, some to person B, and so on. July 15, 2018 5.0 Pros I love that SmartSheet allows for multiple tabs to organize data. You can also choose who has access to certain tabs. I also find the feature of attaching documents, images and notes EXTREMELY useful in the work that I do. We compile lots of information/documents on person's files that we work with, and we can include all of the information in 1 place, and anyone can add notes and information to the person's file. This is extremely useful for documentation among many people who are interacting with a customer we have. It is also easy to access and use from the iPhone app, which allows me to be more efficient as I am often on-the-go with clients and do not have my computer out. Cons For the business that I do, I can't think of a better priced program or more user-friendly program. It serves all of our needs, and is very user-friendly and safe for storing confidential information...no cons that I can think of except sometimes when you change tabs, it will not save information you put into the tab you switched from. Despite popular belief, this format is still very effective and highly used in places where metrics are essential and number crunching is calling all the shots. With enhanced filters and views, one will be surprised at how powerful Smartsheet really is. I would personally recommend trying this, even for a trial, and get the feel for what Smartsheet can actually do. Pros Smartsheet brings the familiarity of using a spreadsheet and transform the way you manage your projects through their grids. Smartsheet is a complete suite of tools that allows your business, big or small, to manage and deliver on your products efficiently. Its list of features is quite extensive: Dashboards provide full visibility of the project and its status. With key metrics represented for the entire project, you can visually see the progress your teams are making with each project. This allows for quick response and adjustments where needed without having to dive too deep into the details. You can display your projects in one of various ways, each with their own unique set of advantages: from a Gantt chart view, to a cards (Kanban) view, to a calendar view. Provide portals for team collaboration and generate forms to capture the information you seek. Add to that attachment capabilities, notifications, alerts and reminders, plus reporting and so much more... and you have a well rounded complete suite of applications that helps you manage your projects and your business more effectively. Cons Smartsheet has no inherent cons. And the only thing I may consider as such would be that of bringing a spreadsheet-like format of its grid into use when trends are deviating from this format slowly. Cons One of the most notable aspects of Smartsheet that I have found to be bothersome is its lack of flexibility. While the software acts as a great platform for task management, its structure is quite rigid and inflexible. This means that tasks have to be put into preset categories and can't be customized. So far i have been able to schedule and manage projects as an individual and together with my teammates. Monitor and give report on projects. Once I get everything down on the sheet I can just look back and see what else needs to be done and this helps me focus on the task at hand at the moment and not worry about what I am forgetting. Cons It is impossible to copy the automatic notifications from one sheet to another. There is no basic formatting, such as column headings. Also shared user management makes keeping track of multiple sheets across departments seamless. Cons Training - I wish the training was a easier to access - web tutorials, free training modules etc as an idea. As the administrator for the account I picked things up as I went as far as features go....but this is difficult to transfer to another user. “Training” offers usually ends up being more of a sales pitch which isn’t helpful or practical for the everyday user. Also I wish you could un-hide one column at a time...which for some reason you can’t. Gets frustrating going back and hiding 20 columns again afterwards. Review Source Sam U. If you've worked with spreadsheet software in the past, it will feel intuitive. It has a ton of features that are excellent for project management and team work. Some of my favorite features are update requests (you can send an update request to anyone in your organization and it will ask them to update you on their progress in the context of your sheet or a cell within your sheet), as well as scheduling helpers and functions like SUM, AVERAGE, etc. I use it for keeping track of my scientific data AND managing my projects. Really great tool! Cons This is both a pro and a con -- the software development team is very on top of stuff, and they seem to make a lot of changes and updates. Fundamentally this is a good thing, but it's sometimes annoying to have to figure out a new UI all the time. There also isn't support for as many functions as Excel. The whole team is able to see my workload and knows how to assign projects or see my workload. Cons I haven't really explored more. I only use the list to track my projects. Reason for choosing Smartsheet I've only had experience with Smartsheet. I really love it and feel comfortable using it. I am amazed at the agility with which I was able to handle the transition, because the work was just handed off through permissions. I can see each project’s status, provide assistance to my team (or flag concerns) right in the sheet, approve, schedule, etc. I also manage our company’s knowledge base, and Smartsheet is the home for 99% of the resources I use to provide the data in the KB. I honestly don’t know how I’d survive without it! Pros Versatility! I use Smartsheets for nearly every task my job involves, and they help provide organization and structure while allowing me to present and store a wide variety of data in an easy-to-read and -access space. Cons My only con/wishlist: In Excel, you can add sheets to a workbook, to keep them “bound together.” I wish that were an option in SS - though there are many ways to get around that minor flaw.
