Pros Smartsheet takes all the benefits of Excel and creates an intuitive and super-simple to use platform. We use it to manage construction jobs and track job costs and documents all in one place. And the platform could not be more affordable! With other construction project management software, what you pay for one year of Smartsheet will get you maybe a week for those other platforms. If you wanted to use just the basic sheets or take advantage of their feature rich workspaces and templates, you can use Smartsheet to track projects, office operations and costs, and as a document center (we use it to track our subcontractors certificates of insurance expirations dates), Smartsheet is definitely invaluable to us as a central project and operations management system that we can all access anywhere. Cons Smartsheet cannot completely manage a project, meaning you will have to incorporate other tools (like budgeting software) to fully monitor and analyze the profitability of a project. Smartsheet keeps the raw data in one place, but does not help to analyze and make sense of it. Cons Considering the fact that I am not running an enterprise but rather a retail company operated by myself, the price plan of the product seems to be excessively expensive. They have also made many of the Pros such as collaboration paid only features, greatly limiting the capability of free users/collaborators and hence made a lot of the benefits I enjoyed redundant. Pros I initially enjoyed it's ability to upload documents and create forms which made handling contractors and onboarding new hires easier. It also was similar to use to Excel with conditional formatting, formulas, and a similar layout which made learning quick. - Cons It's shady and unethical use of the "Negative Option Rule" in its renewal process, which has already been outlawed by the FCC in 2025 but still included in old contracts. Essentially they inferred that a lack of action by the user infers consent, and used this to try to force my company into an additional contract year, in addition to trying to increase the paid members count and "upgrading" our package, resulting in an extra 4K of costs. The dashboard feature has helped a lot with being able to track the information we need in a detailed report, but only display the hard numbers for the executive team that may not want all the metrics we're tracking. Pros Dashboards and able to restrict/grant access to invested parties without too much confusion. The workflows feature is nice also, helps with alerting the team of certain points in project without overloading them with info that doesn't necessarily pertain to their role. Cons If I had to pick a con, it would be the price point. It took a long time to convince my company to buy into this solution due to the price point. Although they liked all the features, the price point made this a lot more difficult on my end to get the buy in. We switched to smartsheet a few years ago after using Basecamp. Smartsheet is nice because it gives our employees a call to action. Whereas Basecamp was a little vague Pros I like the Gant Chart and collaborative elements the most. The Gant chart is nice because it tells you exactly who is supposed to be working on things at any given time. Cons Sometimes it can be glitchy when setting dates. For example if I want to set a given date, Smartsheet will change it to the day before. Not a big issue though. Even if I don't have a precise breakdown of schedules, setting deadlines by day is excellent. I also constantly evaluate campaign ROI, so the Smartsheet sheets are great for managing data in the same interface. I use the mobile app for quick queries. It's not very useful for work, but it is a tool that extends my computer usage. Pros Template customization helps me standardize various processes, including event coordination, workflows, client appointments, and campaign performance. These facilities have improved the quality of my work life: I have been able to establish effective workflows using these templates, which is fantastic. Although it's spreadsheet software, it has many more features than it appears to have; it's great can manage tasks, and even the notifications to complete a task are very useful. Cons Smartsheet is great; I can't deny it. However, performance is poor when using extensive databases, which can be slow and sometimes frustrating. Pros I use smartsheet every day to keep track of our progress on my project, assign tasks and put my finger on what’s going right and where we’ve got some drag, more than I have to sort through a big pile of email. Every morning, I lift my sheets and check in on the status of each project deadline, update the status myself and fire off a comment right there from the row. Due to its large number of functions, it takes workers who are not used to using management programs a couple of days to learn how to use the tool. But I still consider it worth it.
