Director Education Management Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "ActiveCampaign review" November 17, 2021 4.0 I needed an autoresponder and since AC was the last one I used in my previous company, I went with it. But overall, I feel like I've wasted time and money on a startup. Within a couple of weeks of signing up, I started getting ads to get 90 days at half price. For an autoresponder product with the capability to filter out these kinds of ads to people who can't get the deal, it felt grimy. I contacted support and they gave me one month half credit, but I did not get the 90 day deal. The worst part was that no one informed me that if I uploaded my list of 10,000 people who have opted in, that my emails would not get delivered because I am a new account. So I paid for 10,000 contacts for 3 months who were not even getting my emails, another grimy move. There should be a caution when you upload explaining this. I didn't discover it until I messaged support to ask why I'm getting such low response. Had I not asked, my emails would have continued to be blocked. No reason for it, other than I'm a new account. Further, when I move people from one list to another, it shows as an unsubscribe, and that is confusing. Pros I have used it in the past with another company that I owned, and found tagging to be helpful in automations. Cons For the price, I don't think I'm getting anything more than another autoresponder company that also offers tagging at half the cost. The spam rules for new accounts is overzealous and unexplained. However, my reasons for choosing AC over Aweber in my last company had to do with tagging, and being charged multiple times in Aweber for one subscriber who happens to be on multiple lists. Aweber doesn't do that anymore and their tagging is just as sophisticated as AC, so I'm contemplating uploading my list to Aweber to see if I get different results. Review Source Darwin O. Pros The two features that make ActiveCampaign powerful for me are the ease and elegance of creating email templates and campaigns, and the robust automation features. I've been able to accomplish everything I need. The email build is superb. I've been able to integrate Active Campaign via Zapier to every other platform we use. Cons The recent activity panel could be more compact and robust. The overall dashboard could be more informative for at-a-glance assessment of activity. I do wish it included landing page features. I do wish the saved elements could be edited in the email builder and that there was more of a true "style" system with reusable and editable master elements. It will help us to keep track of our growing community. Pros Active Campaign is pretty straight forward and they pretty much have an explanatory video for each feature they are offering + the (supper) team is very helpful and try to resolve any issues as soon as possible. It's was easy to transfer our contact database from one provider to this one and it allows you to tag and add contacts into lists, which is very helpful when it comes to campaigns. Cons We are using the pro version and some features are not required, would be great to swop some features that are not available with our subscription. Had some issues in the beginning as the campaigns didn't work but as mentioned above, the support team is very helpful. Cons I would love to see a Wix plug in so that details from my sales store are pulled into AC. I am currently having to link AC to my payment provider to get the details in but this payment provider is due to change. It's opened a whole new world of opportunities for my organisation. Cons I'm not sure whether I have yet to find it, but from the exploration that I've done on the mobile app, I couldn't find tracking for automations, nor for forms. That would come in handy. As for the software in general, it would have been helpful to be able to see an overview of all campaigns and automations in one place, rather than having automations on one tab and campaigns on another. Also, it would be helpful if I could go into a sent campaign and resend it to myself (not a specific contact), and access the original message and list of people who received the campaign more easily. Currently feels like I need to go through 2-3 steps each time in order to do so. March 17, 2021 4.0 Pros Active campaign helped us scale our business effectively through the use of their CRM, pipeline management, website integration, and marketing tools. The biggest benefit we saw was the use of attribution marketing to tie Google ads campaigns to our inbound lead deals, in order to get more data that would help us with future bookings. Also the automations were a huge win, and allowed us to do less work, and manage our pipeline better. Cons The reporting all seems valuable, however it's pretty slow and somewhat difficult to set up. Aside from that, I wish there were more attribution related to organic searches and non-paid advertising. We're pretty much fully integrated at this point, but we're still not sure we're going to stick with it, as big of a headache as it would be to pack up shop and move somewhere else. Pros We were looking for a platform that we could tie via API to our app and the other tools in our marketing stack, to handle marketing automation and email blasts, as well as functioning as a CRM. It's a pretty saturated market, but AC stood out because it did most of what we thought we wanted to do, without the intense commitment of Salesforce or full-on Hubspot integration. For the most part, it's done what we wanted it to do with some minor hiccups. Customer service has been great. Cons \- Most tools like this are built to integrate with other existing tools (shopify carts, wordpress pages, etc). Our app (site) is custom built, so we haven't been able to realize the full power we wanted (no customized abandoned shopping cart emails, etc). - AC is going up against competitors that do a really good job at UX/UI and general design. I'd put them in the middle of the pack in this regard. It's frequently not very intuitive--it often requires more clicks than should be necessary, or dumps you on a page without an indication of what to do next, or links away from the page you're on without an easy way to get back, etc. - We've had a few bugs that customer service has been helpful with, but have still left us wondering if we made the right decision. This has allowed me to keep track of my audience and segment my email campaigns to suit them. Cons I have noticed a dramatic decrease in open rates since moving to this software. Having read their help articles it’s possible this is a temporary decline and will increase as my audience continue to open emails and re-establish trust. It could also be because the move has coincided with the holidays. However, recently we ran into a major issue that suddenly started showing up, and is preventing us from moving forward on a vital project. We used the chat, and initially the guy on the chat told us it was the fault of another vendor we had integrated with. After going back and forth, he agreed to look into it, and asked for a bit more information. I went to collect that, and when I came back, the chat had ended. Furthermore, when I tried starting a new chat, it said “chat is offline, you will have to send an email.” I noticed that the chat was disconnected and chat went offline at exactly 12 pm Pacific time, corresponding with lunchtime. This is crazy! Who goes offline in the middle of a chat with customers who pay over $200/month for software just so they can take their lunch break exactly on time? Now I’m really wondering, can I trust AC when it counts? Because this kind of software is expensive enough and complex enough that it absolutely requires good support. So far, I’m not impressed. (Previous less critical support inquiries were eventually answered, but not particularly quickly). Pros AC is very easy to use and to set up. It’s more intuitive than most similar products we’ve tried. When it works right, it’s great. Cons Software like this is complex, and things inevitably break or have bugs. We have used most of the major platforms out there, and they all have periods of bugs and issues. Once you run into it, the only question is this: will support be there to help? Not AC support, not if it’s lunchtime.
