June 26, 2020 4.0 My business is still small but growing and I know that there is a lot more to tap into for what ActiveCampaign can do but I have been very happy with it so far. When I was deciding who to go with, I researched many of the options that were popular and this one just seemed like the best one. Now a couple years later, I'm seeing more and more people praising it and what it can do. That's got me thinking I made the right choice. I mean, I figured at the time that it was the right choice but I'm seeing that validated by other's comments, too. Pros I like how powerful this software is and for a great price! When I started with it, I had quite a bit of a learning curve to learn it but had excellent help from support staff. It integrated well with my other online sites. Now I'm all set up and it runs like a charm. I look forward to using more of its capability as my business grows. Cons I have found it a little complicated for setting up with new lead magnets but I have attributed that to its ability to do so much so that you have to navigate around to set up what you need. And, I am still learning it. But what's great is that you can duplicate an automation. So once you have created what you want, you don't have to necessarily go back to square one. Now there are errors, bugs and feature reductions almost every week that are surprising and frankly alarming. Pros It WAS easy to use. No longer the case. Cons Getting harder to use. Complicated. MOST CRITICAL: They are getting rid of features which are critical and sensible to maintain e.g. image resize, e.g. details on recent activities. The changes have eroded and downgraded the usability and attractiveness of their original program. It has everything a small business could ask for or need at a pretty nominal price. As someone who has zero marketing experience in just a great love for helping others and their wellness journey their on boarding staff was phenomenal at helping me figure out which tools would best serve my needs and get me set up. I love the ability to customize the look and feel of the emails and how quickly it is to duplicate automations. I enjoy that I am not locked in to a specific program and that I can bump up my services or lower the monthly as best suit my business needs as well. There’s always someone around to answer questions if you have them and I can’t highly recommend the company enough Pros The product software is easy to use and offers a lot of customization specific to your business needs. The on boarding was critical for me to understand since I have zero marketing experience. But my facilitator was amazing and understanding my needs and directing me to the most usable features for my specific needs. Cons The only downside to the product that I can see this far is that the navigation on the left-hand side of your homepage is a little clunky to work through. Finding the exact page or clickable link for the product you want to build isn’t super intuitive and it would be great if there was a hand out that just listed the clicks you needed to take to get two forms or opt in messages etc. Review Source ND Nathalie D. Pros What I like most about this software is how intuitive it is to create automations and see the flow of a contact through the automations. The Automation builder is very powerful and makes it very flexible to create behavioral marketing automations. Cons I wished it had a way to organize tags by categories, that is pretty all that I feel is missing for my needs. Reason for choosing ActiveCampaign No other alternative. You have free options and very expensive ones. So Active campaign was a great option for me, right on the sweet spot. Their customer success team is the best. I have had three on boarding one-on-one calls where they have understood my business and helped me with all the setup, resources and best practices to start using it the best way possible. It is a very robust system, I only use the email automation, segmentation and I am starting to use their CRM, but the posibilites are endless. The pricing is reasonable, and the additional features were unexpected as I was sort of grandfathered in to them. Pros This is a very legitimate mailchimp competitor, well-priced. The CRM functionality surprising, and there are really nice web insights (WordPress user here) that I could glean at-a-glance & give to my sales team via their plugin/javascript. They just recently added conversations (chatbot) automations, which were great to see. The chatbot was slick & never glitched out on me. It's not quite an Intercom replacement, but if you're not familiar with Intercom you'd be over the moon with this. The email automations are hands-down the best aspect of ActiveCampaign. The automations & workflows are visual-based & made it incredibly easy & user friendly for a once-newly-christened marketer unfamiliar with sequences. There's even a set of 'cookbooks' that are pre-built templates in case you were like me & didn't know where to start. Cons The email builder is a tad clunky. My biggest gripe was when I would create a new link from a template, it would change the color to blue & the font to Arial. Sounds like it's not a big deal, but when you're constantly changing the colors & fonts, it adds to the amount of time you're making an email. It would be nice to be able to add an HTML element in the WYSIWYG editor, instead of bouncing in/out between that & the HTML editor. The CRM is nice, but the deals functionality is fairly light. Not the end of the world unless there's a lot of nuance from deal to deal (like in our industry). The times I have contacted support, they are responsive and helpful. Pros I absolutely love ActiveCampaign. I have 2 accounts for my 2 businesses and have approx 10+ customers using it also for their online marketing endeavours. It is my go to software that I recommend to all customers. I love how the software is cheap for a startup but also offers really high level of integration for advanced customers. It is solid, easy to use and I cannot honestly recall having an issue with it. It has strong reporting and I love the integration features for Woo Commerce and Shopify also. Cons The only thing that is missing from ActiveCampaign is a simple checkout / payment type offering. So connecting to Paypal / Stripe is doable but not seamless. Apart from that I love it. We used it daily for contact details, email campaigns, deal tracking, automation. Has some robust chops. Cons Unfortunately, we can not recommend using ActiveCampaign ever due to their terms and cancellation. We were a customer for a year and a half on an annual plan. We switched marketing agencies to a HubSpot team and transferred to a new CRM. ActiveCampaign was unwilling to refund unused months (even prorated at a month-to-month fee) when terminated. I would understand this from a client in their first year, but a longer term client as well as the fact that this is a SAAS product makes this an antiquated reason. Then the more complex features are there and ready when you need and grow into them. Pros Everything is in one place. I don't need Mail Chimp+ SalesForce+X + Y + Z . It's all there, in one dashboard. Cons There are a few buggy things that happen now and again, but they are more annoyances, and not major issues. I think they are still growing and improving, and they are open to working on the buggy issues I identify, with direct access to their developers to make them aware of the issue. I have fewer than 400 subscribers right now, and I'm really glad to be making the switch now instead of later down the road. ActiveCampaign is where I want to build the foundation for my email marketing from here on out. Also, I had to buy a whole separate online course to learn how to use MailChimp and ActiveCampaign includes a startup course, "Getting Started," in their platform. Much appreciated! This is turning into a MailChimp critique, but the other thing I didn't like was how I couldn't just type directly into the body of the email like how a NORMAL email works; I had to write in a separate box to the side and it made it hard to see what the actual email would end up looking like sometimes. Pros The setup of the platform was straightforward and it was very easy to get started. Our account manager has been very help. We had some initial compliance issues with getting our first campaign approved, but our account manager was super helpful in getting it through, and we have had no issues since. The platform is very powerful and we have only just begun to scratch the surface of its capabilities. Despite all the capabilities, it is very easy to send our a simple mailout, without needing to go through all the extra features, but when we have used the automation and integration features, the interface was easy to use, and we had no trouble achieving our requirements. Cons The only downside to the implementation was that it took a few days of back and forth to get through the checking process for our first email campaign. The initial requirements we were given were completely irrelevant Reason for choosing ActiveCampaign Capped pricing for unlimited emails instead of cost per email sent.
