I needed something simple enough to train staff to use, but with the ability to do crazy, advanced things. Over the last decade+ I had been using numerous competitors, but think I might have found a permanent home with ActiveCampaign after using it for two years.

Pros

The automations are where ActiveCampaign really wins. You can do almost anything you'd want to do, and it really helps with the ability to track and move leads through a funnel.

Cons

There is no way to group together TAGs. This makes it difficult to keep track of them all when you use external software that might be creating tags based on prospect activity. However, because of the ways Automations works, you rarely have to use TAGs. You can keep leads spinning around inside Automations, following unique paths, for the entire sales cycle.

### "Actively Growing My Client List With Active Campaign"

My mailing list began with scraps of paper and addresses of family and friends. I started at the lowest tier, under 500 names. The monthly newsletter I send with AC has become a significant sales tool for me, and I expect to jump from tier to tier to tier and be happy to pay for each next level. I am slowing integrating more features, automations etc. There is simply nothing negative about this software for me!

Pros

This complex software is intuitive and easy to use. Just no headaches here. As an artist, creative control is important to me, and I like designing my own templates and emails, but when I'm in a hurry, there are plenty of appropriate templates to choose from. The one time I've had to contact customer support (in 4-5 years of using this) they were prompt, caring and through in resolving my issue.

Cons

I wish more website providers/designers integrated this powerful CRM, but it is comparatively pricey, and not difficult to use anyway.

Reason for choosing ActiveCampaign

Reviews by users were overwhelmingly positive for AC, much less so for Mailchimp. Deliverability rates matter to me, and AC is on top of that completely. Even though my website integrates Mailchimp free, I disregard it and use Active Campaign, happily paying the fee.

Pros

Ideally we would integrate this with our CRM, however the CRM was built in house with little time for a developer to integrate. I feel we could get so much more out of active campaign if we interested it with our CRM and then used lead features to nurture sales leads.

Cons

It is complex to run automations. There is support and training available and plenty of online resources but learning this and implementing it was a very time consuming task.

### "Great Alternative to Hubspot"

The implementation process and Hubspot migration could have been better. I had a negative customer service experience when migrating using the ActiveCampaign migration services. There was almost no clear communication from the lead on the project. I had to ask repeatedly in multiple different ways to get updates on the progress of the migration and it was late. Granted we have been dealing with a life changing global pandemic but I don't think that working from home should impact your communication with customers - especially when you are running late.

Pros

I moved my company over to Active Campaign because we needed a more inexpensive alternative to Hubspot. We are a small company that needed the tools provided by software like Hubspot & Active Campaign without the huge pill. we were able to save over $6000/year by switching with minimal functionality differences.

Cons

So far the software is great. I have had no major problems and the customer service team is super helpful.

I've switched from spraying out lots of marketing to being more intentional and strategic with my lead generation work.

Pros

There is a lot to get your head around with ActiveCampaign but the support materials are so useful. I took the onboarding course before I did anything, to understand the functionality, and worked through the migration support materials. They really helped me understand the power of the tool.

Cons

It's a beast of a tool so it can be a little overwhelming if you try and do too much before you've understood the tool. I am yet to dig into the reporting tools as I would love to be able to get better metrics, with less effort.

It has a ton of features - just not laid out in a user friendly manner. We switched most clients to 'the other guys' - and have what we need there.

Pros

I liked the ease of the connection between my E-Commerce software and their software for abandoned cart marketing.

Cons

Ease of use. In comparison to 'the other guys' - training a client on this software was next to impossible. We implemented on behalf of clients, and when they wanted to use it themselves, we moved to another company. It isn't as user friendly as cheaper competitors.

I am very satisfied with ActiveCampaign, as it meets all my email marketing needs as a small business owner.

Pros

I have used MailChimp before, so I am proficient in other email marketing platforms, and am really impressed with the audience segmentation features available on ActiveCampaign over other platforms! There are endless ways to customize your email marketing to go out to specific audiences in the email list, depending on their interest and cycle in the sales funnel. I truly recommend ActiveCampaign, especially for new business owners looking for customization options and reliability.

Cons

One of my least favorite aspects of ActiveCampaign is that it is not very intuitive when first setting up emails for automation and campaigns. I wish it was a bit simpler and that it had fewer steps in terms of set up.

ActiveCampaign was recommended to me by a marketing agency, and having tried a few other platforms, I thought it was the best choice for my needs.

This is the second business I've implemented ActiveCampaign into - and on both occassions it has delivered tremendous value with quick setup and easy to use features for all users (even those who required onboarding as a first time user).

Pros

The marketing automation sequences are easy to visualise and build - with options to integrate directly into most CRM solutions for easy lead capture and management. The email deliverability is robust and the pricing model is significantly better value than most in the market for each new 'tier' of contacts.

Cons

It would be great to have a live chat function for any quick workarounds however the ticket support is relatively quick to respond (usually <24 hours).

Pros

The best part about ActiveCampaign is the value you receive with the price. ActiveCampaign although I love it, is no Hubspot, Marketo, Pardot, etc. but it's the next best thing if you're looking for a lean marketing CRM, sales pipeline, and marketing automation software with less than $1-50k a month budget. I recommend ActiveCampaign to all startup clients.

Cons

ActiveCampaign's software and UI could be cleaner and nicer like Hubspots. It's analytics are pretty non-existent but yet again for the price... AC is the best.

Reason for choosing ActiveCampaign

Price! Their value, ESP, sender score, and segmentation, automation, lead scoring, and sales pipeline ability are far beyond a normal ESP for the same price and 1/5th the price of high-end marketing softwares.

Its automations allow us to get the job done much faster.

Pros

The best thing about this software is that it allows us to integrate many other applications that make the campaign much easier and smooth. It has many options of templates for marketing mailings, which allows us to attract more customers and get better results. It allows to segment the public, to know to whom the campaign will reach.

Cons

Its reports are not so good, I would like them to be a little more extensive with all the important data of the campaign, so we could improve for future campaigns and remedy the mistakes that were made. It has many functions that can be overwhelming, but once learned, you can take full advantage of the program.

I am able to access several different arms of our ministry regularly through Active Campaign, and it's really helpful. I love the ease, analytics and the customer service.

Pros

The onboarding and customer service is fantastic! I love the options for lists, segments and contacts. That is really what I needed AC for most, and it's worked great.

Cons

I've had several glitches in trying to create campaigns and lost emails. In the last month, I cannot use my templates in Safari and had to download Google Chrome just to use the service I pay for. I've had issues with formatting and have had to send multiple test emails, continuously correcting the same thing as well.

Good to work with and good email deliverability which is the most important thing. Overall, good value and quality of automations at an affordable price compared to competitors. Not cheap, but also not super expensive and complex to run like Infusionsoft. Similar to ConvertKit in my opinion, but better automations.

Pros

It took a little while to understand everything in terms of automations and advanced features, but after I learned it I found the automations and email campaign features very easy to use. You can setup great advanced email campaigns and segmentation in a relatively simple way. Great for small businesses like ours

Cons

I think the product offers everything we could need. I wish the SMS service was offered for a lower plan like ours, but otherwise it's great.

We went through several email marketing platforms in this is by far the best one. It's really easy to use, the automations possibilities are endless and very user friendly. It has allowed us to truly follow our leads, pipelines, and the main traffic sources so we can put our efforts in the proper channels. We've been able to implement a very solid automation system that has increase conversions and build loyalty. Furthermore, the SMS feature is a great add on and is converting pretty well, same for the web notifications. And the support team has been very helpful whenever we need something and helping us make sure that all automations are set up in the best possible way. Our team LOVES ActiveCampaign. We are looking forward to integrating the Conversations feature!

Pros

It's really easy to use and it's great for building automations that are well targeted and segmented, with a variety of options. From emails, SMS, notifications, goals, web messages. The pipelines system works great. Unlimited lists. Great customer service + offers monthly one-to-one calls to review your systems and improve them.

Cons

It might be a bit pricey with the attribution and CRM add-on. And you cannot massively add subscribers to an automation.

Overall it's a really positive experience, the onboarding from ActiveCampaign's support has been superb. The software is reliable and it plays nicely with Zapier and various other tools I use in my coaching business.

Pros

The Deals/Pipeline management is simple to set up and use, as was the data import when I first signed up. The automations are possibly the best part about ActiveCampaign in how they all link together.

Cons

It is quite technical, I'm relatively experienced at using various CRM and Email apps, without that experience I feel this might have been quite hard to set up. The Automations are VERY technical and I'd say I'm using about 5% of what ActiveCampaign is actually capable on that front. Cost wise it is expensive (I rolled Insightly and MailChimp into a single ActiveCampaign account and it's about double what those cost me each month(

Very positive, good onboarding help, and they even reached out to us to let us know we could be paying less for our plan at one point! Overall, I highly recommend the tool.

Pros

We selected Active Campaign after learning about it when researching CRM-like tools that had integrated email marketing capabilities. We love that we can manage our database, connect our leads to 'deals' and 'organizations'. Previously we were managing our customer data in excel and thanks to Active Campaign it is much easier to sort and find customer data. We also like the email marketing tools, which makes AC a true one-stop-shop for us, and it's a fraction of the price of some of the CRM tools that our competitors use, with similar functionality.

Cons

We have had issues with deliverability of some emails, and customizing the look and feel can be frustrating, but that has been my experience with every email marketing platform I've ever used.

Reason for choosing ActiveCampaign

Because it offers a CRM tool as well as email marketing, with a lot of capabilities we aren't even using that we may eventually 'grow into' as our marketing team becomes more sophisticated.

I'm pleased with the capabilities of the platform and the flexibility to build many different automations. I'm still learning the ropes about email marketing but switching from Mailchimp has not been a regret.

Pros

What I like about it is the automation features. With so many options there is a lot of customization available in their starter plan. The different ways to tag and segment the audience is helpful. The email format can be as simple or robust as one desires.

Cons

It lags a little and the rich text formatting toolbar is a little annoying because it resets the font randomly. There's also no way to setup a default font, I have to manually change it every time. The lack of simple landing pages. It's a feature that other competitors have started implementing. I'm not asking for a robust landing page builder but it would be useful to have the option. That said, I'm guessing since the target audience is a power email marketer, there's an assumption that they already have a landing page builder or website. The lag to load pages in the platforms is definitely a little disappointing to me. It seems to take a while to change between dashboards (contacts, campaigns, automations, etc).
