Founder Marketing and Advertising Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Why I would still choose ActiveCampaign over other email platforms" August 17, 2021 5.0 Pros I found ActiveCampaign took a little bit of a learning curve as do most things, but once you have developed an understanding of the software it is fairly easy to set up a campaign, add emails and monitor the mailings. Cons I did not really experience anything in dealing with the software that I found to be disappointing. I was able to learn and follow the architecture and get done what I needed to do in a timely manner. Reason for choosing ActiveCampaign It has been a while since I underwent the selection process where I choose ActiveCampaign. I wanted what I felt was an inclusive solution handling fundamental email marketing as well as being able to extend comfortably into marketing automation without reinventing the well. I felt like ActiveCampaign best fit the bill here at an affordable cost. June 30, 2022 4.0 We did benefit from using Active Campaign, we got our feet wet with email marketing and email automation and we grew our customer base. We learned a lot. However we soon discovered that with the amount of people we need to reach to make a sale (for some of our products) that it's just not practical and too expensive. Pros Active campaign helped us draw in more customers and create a great experience. It helped us improve our marketing and even tailor it to specific demographics. It also saved us a lot of time and prevented us from missing opportunities. Active Campaign allows you to create multiple automations and they are more customisable than some other products. Cons Depending on your product or service, it can be expensive. If you need to reach a lot of people to makes sales, the cost rises rather quickly. It's also hard to navigate and learn how to use. The customer service wasn't the best and I wish they had been more helpful with showing me how to use the product. October 15, 2020 4.0 Pros This software allows me to visualize my marketing scheme much easier than the others I've tried. It also has the best pricing structure out of all the other software I've tried for my application. Cons There needs to be more integration, period. Almost every marketing software out there integrates directly with constant contact, Mailchimp, even sendinblue. I have to rely on very roundabout ways to fully automate the way I need to. Hopefully this is addressed moving forward. I'd also like to see more triggers, and more training. I'm not going to lie there is a learning curve but once you really dig in there you realize there is so much you can do! We keep coming up with new things we can do on a regular bases. We are really excited to look into this new website personalization option! Pros We really like the ability to create automations and deals! We use the automations to send emails and use in sales funnels! We have really developed our Deals pipelines to track a customer through various stages of the purchasing journey through their student journey with us. Through automations we can add information about them right into their Deal making it the only place we need to go to find out about that student. Cons The only issue we really have had is with the website tracking. For some reason it would work and then to work, which didn't allow us to track and add a tag when people were hitting certain pages on our website. I do believe they are working on resolving this. We then tested a few providers. Ultimately, we chose ActiveCampaign because this software meets our needs. We are now a year later and we no longer wish to use any other software. We have automated more than 10 of our campaigns and our sales and number of customers have grown strongly thanks to the ActiveCampaign software. We are also very pleased with ActiveCampaign's customer service. In most cases we have a response within one working day. We can wholeheartedly recommend ActiveCampaign to you. Pros ActiveCampaign is a powerhouse that will help a company succeed in a variety of ways. It's easy to use and has a lot of useful functionality, such as the ability to chat with leads and create email drip campaigns. It has sophisticated automation capabilities as well as comprehensive split testing techniques that help increase conversion rates. Its email prototype designer is superior to that of most autoresponders. Cons Although we have quite some experience with email marketing, it takes some time to master the software. This in itself is not a problem because you want it to function properly in the end. Be aware that you have to study the software. Pros Automation. You are able to create complicated sales funnels that run on autopilot to maximise conversions and sales. For example, I integrate my ClickFunnels landing pages with ActiveCampaign. Leads receive automated follow up emails, and then further personalised emails based on whether they open or click on a link in an email. Cons It was very complicated at first. The CRM has nice communication options and the tagging system for contacts and in-the-moment segmentation are nice touches. The automation builder is a little clunky and, while it has lots of options, has fewer than some other platforms. The Salesforce sync is clunky to set up, but the customer service and support are incredible. We’re probably able to do more with ActiveCampaign than some competitors, just because ActiveCampaign really takes the time to support their users. Pros ActiveCampaign offers a lot at a reasonable price point. The tagging system is a great innovation in contact-sorting. The built-in CRM and Salesforce integration make it easy to communicate with contacts and keep track of those relationships. The email studio is refreshingly usable. Active campaign’s support and customer service are truly second-to-none. Cons The Salesforce sync, while convenient, is bulky and requires finesse to use. The automation options are a little limited compared to some competitors. Pros Firstly, the automations for this software are incredible. They are intuitive and can create a customer journey that is dynamic and a positive experience at the same time. Active Campaign integrates with all the tools that I use for marketing from Facebook Ads to my data capture forms and of course my website. The event tracking and dynamic (conditional) content is superb. I've never experienced anything as good from another company. Cons I don't like the forms, they're ugly. Pros 1\. It helps me to collect leads and translate them into potential customers by fetching or collecting data from various source via emails, chat and form submission. 2. I like it's automated email feature that automatically send follow-ups to the leads. It saves me a lot of time to work upon other things. Cons 1\. Recently I experienced a bug which is emails/replies (which I use to send through the AC) were not getting delivered to the leads. But I spoke to their support team and they managed to fix that issue. It is not anymore. Keep up the good work. 2. Creating automation is quite complex, it should be more easy and user friendly. Option to drag and drop text and image boxes save an incredible amount of time and was not available in previous programs we have used. Cons It freezes up more often than I'd like and I have to close down my browser and try again, or sometimes it takes clicking an option several times before it recognizes the command. It's very visual in how to set up automations allowing for a very short learning curve. Cons I wish that the pricing was based solely on subscribers. We felt limited by the technology on our last platform that we made sure to find an alternative that would allow for flexibility, easy to use tools, segmentation, and responsive customer support. Pros We ran into no problems migrating over to ActiveCampaign. Customer support was extremely friendly and helpful and in constant contact to make sure our transition and onboarding went smoothly. There are a lot of pre-made tools available such as templates and automations that reduce the burden of our marketing efforts. These are very easy to set up and to edit once running. Reporting of where contacts are in the process is also good. Cons The CRM features, in particular the tracking tasks, are clunky compared to other platforms. Changes to the UI shortly after we started using the product made it nearly impossible to view all the tasks associated to a deal in any sort of meaningful way. While there are was around it, like viewing the contact, instead of the deal, it ha proved a point of frustration for new users. My goal of reaching my customers with newsletters and offers is being met better than I've previously experienced. I am very happy with this service and my customers seem to be as well. Pros The GUI is excellent and most things are easy to figure out. The support team is very helpful too. I find ActiveCampaign to be effective and powerful for email marketing and customer relations. It easily beats any other similar product I've tried. It's also more "fun" to use. Cons There doesn't seem to an undo in the text editor where you write your emails. That can be frustrating at times. I would also be happier if I could copy & paste of images into the text editor. The support hit and miss in terms of their availability and expertise, even for some of the simpler questions I've had. And no phone support unless you have the highest "Enterprise" tier. Pros Overall, Active Campaign is probably the best going at the moment especially for email automation. There are good features and the interface is generally pretty straightforward. Cons I feel that Active Campaign feels too expensive for what it offers compared to others out there, and the price jump to the next tier is toooooooo much. So, my position is that the value is not enough to justify the next tier price jump for the features that are being offered. For example, the price doubles if you have twice the contacts from 500 - 1000. So, the assumption is that you must have twice the value in your contacts to justify the higher tier pricing. We all know this is not always true, especially if you have a simple lead magnet opt-in for example. In the Plus plan, the first tier up from light, you'll spend $2,400 per year for 10,000 contacts without having all of the features unlocked. If you want all of the features unlocked, you'll need to spend $4,800 for the same amount of contacts. 🤯 Doesn't seem like a good, and the incentives are not that enticing for the average marketer with a small business. There are features that are in there that most probably won't use, but will have to pay for in order to be allowed more contacts in your lists. Also, the app can get laggy and slow, especially when editing automations. I wish it had a quicker response time when you submit changes.
