Pros I have two different businesses that I use AC for. I like that I can segment those businesses and uses for different needs. Cons There is a significant learning curve for many of the functions. These are very easy to set up and to edit once running. Reporting of where contacts are in the process is also good. Cons The CRM features, in particular the tracking tasks, are clunky compared to other platforms. Changes to the UI shortly after we started using the product made it nearly impossible to view all the tasks associated to a deal in any sort of meaningful way. While there are was around it, like viewing the contact, instead of the deal, it ha proved a point of frustration for new users. My goal of reaching my customers with newsletters and offers is being met better than I've previously experienced. I am very happy with this service and my customers seem to be as well. Pros The GUI is excellent and most things are easy to figure out. The support team is very helpful too. I find ActiveCampaign to be effective and powerful for email marketing and customer relations. It easily beats any other similar product I've tried. It's also more "fun" to use. Cons There doesn't seem to an undo in the text editor where you write your emails. That can be frustrating at times. I would also be happier if I could copy & paste of images into the text editor. The support hit and miss in terms of their availability and expertise, even for some of the simpler questions I've had. And no phone support unless you have the highest "Enterprise" tier. Pros Overall, Active Campaign is probably the best going at the moment especially for email automation. There are good features and the interface is generally pretty straightforward. Cons I feel that Active Campaign feels too expensive for what it offers compared to others out there, and the price jump to the next tier is toooooooo much. So, my position is that the value is not enough to justify the next tier price jump for the features that are being offered. For example, the price doubles if you have twice the contacts from 500 - 1000. So, the assumption is that you must have twice the value in your contacts to justify the higher tier pricing. We all know this is not always true, especially if you have a simple lead magnet opt-in for example. In the Plus plan, the first tier up from light, you'll spend $2,400 per year for 10,000 contacts without having all of the features unlocked. If you want all of the features unlocked, you'll need to spend $4,800 for the same amount of contacts. 🤯 Doesn't seem like a good, and the incentives are not that enticing for the average marketer with a small business. There are features that are in there that most probably won't use, but will have to pay for in order to be allowed more contacts in your lists. Also, the app can get laggy and slow, especially when editing automations. I wish it had a quicker response time when you submit changes. Pros I've been using ActiveCampaign for my email marketing needs for a couple of years now, and it's been a lifesaver. It allows me to easily segment my audience, target specific users with relevant content, and set up automated campaigns that save me so much time. The reporting functions are also great and give me valuable insight into the performance of my campaigns. Highly recommend ActiveCampaign if you're looking to maximize your email marketing strategy! Pros Lately, what I like more is the API, because we make custom programs for managing our business, and it gives us great flexibility for tagging customers, for example. This way we can segment better by interests, depending on the activity of the client with our services, and we target our emails so easily. I can use it for my email campaigns, but also for my online courses and automation for my live trainings to name but a few. I do have the CRM option too, but haven't used it yet to be honest. What I am seeing there though is more than interesting and could help me get some more leads. Cons ActiveCampaign really takes some good digging in to understand how to set up campaigns. That's what I have a VA for :-) But I would definitely dig into it if I had to do all of it myself as I know it will be worth it. The tools are comparable to what you'll pay 10X for, and one of the features I love about Activecampaign are their Marketing Automation Workflows - allowing you to setup, segment, and activate the inactive. By using this tool, we achieved 25% open rates in the HR industry where 10% is often average; by integrating the online tools with our inbound marketing Team - both phone and online support - we were able to increase sales Demos 10X over the previous 6 months because Activecampaign helped us motivate the inactive, as well as those who take action. One of the tools I recommend most to clients is Activecampaign because it's performance marketing at a reasonable price. Pros Marketing automation tools and templates Deliverability excellent in our experience CRM was enough for our needs, helping coordinate 5 staff. Can use in Gmail, which helped our non-Tech sales people. Reporting that helps quantify engagement and ROI Cons CRM was not the strongest, yet enough for our needs Marketing automation services generally are separate from emails you send to larger lists in my approach. However, once you scale over 50k contacts, I would move out of Active Campaign because of the difficulties to segment contacts and send broadcasts. (AC: you should imitate Ontraport or Influsionsoft for your broadcast segmentation) Pros The price point to the functionalities is GREAT! Meaning, if I'm getting started with my business, and I have my budget limited, this is the BEST tool to get started. Cons The segmentation to send broadcasts is very confusing and difficult to use. Formatting, having consistent fonts, fonts and font colors showing up one way when you craft the email, but showing up completely differently in the preview, and then a completely OTHER way in the test email. The automation builder is both easy-to-use AND powerful. You can trigger actions and segment by almost any criteria you can imagine. In a lot of ways, the automation builder rivals the (what I consider) best-in-class solutions such as Marketo. The email builder is intuitive and the template library comes with a lot of good looking emails to start from. Zero HTML/CSS needed. The built-in SMS messaging is really cool and somewhat unique in the industry. Building an automation consisting of emails and SMS messages is drag and drop, with no integrations needed. While it's limited (as of today) the CRM is really intuitive and clean. If they continue to add functionality in this area they may have something incredible in a couple years. Importing contacts is simple and goes far beyond the typical CSV file. Google contacts, Google Sheets, other email providers. no problem. Possibly the best import tools I've seen in this industry. Cons The most obvious one is the lack of a landing page builder. Having landing pages in the tool would be ideal, but solutions such as LeadPages can be easily integrated. Having to pay for email compatibility testing (for different devices) is a bit annoying, feels like you're being "nickel and dimed." The reporting leaves a lot to be desired. I'm really hoping they invest in this area (much more important than having built-in landing pages in my view), as it would really elevate the solution and make it an easy choice vs the Infusionsofts of the world. Their chat responded quickly, but gave pretty abbreviated answers. Some of the questions took over a month to resolve. Kind of impersonal experience overall but I guess that's the deal with a large number of users and you aren't on some type of enterprise level pricing. Pros Many features and functions, good integrations and straightforward user interface Cons Does not work with Gravity Forms WordPress plugin as you can't really track interactions on your website unless you tag everything. Not sure if this is true for other external form programs, but make sure you check it out. Also, you can't receive individual emails at the contact level. Any contact you wish to interact with has to be made into a "deal" before you can receive an email and truthfully this requires quite a bit of setup. AC gets a bit pricey when you start adding a decent amount of contacts, but it's cheaper at the beginning than Hubspot, Pardot-Salesforce, etc. It also doesn't track anonymous users to the site, a small issue but nice to have that history when someone actually converts. Reason for choosing ActiveCampaign We really liked Mautic open source, but didn't want to have to support it. We've decided to go back to Mautic and link it to either Suite CRM or PipeDrive as a CRM and just pay an external consultant since we've done that in the past and gotten decent support. My experience is that ActiveCampaign is allowing me to EXPAND my business thanks to its functionality. Pros What I love most about ActiveCampaign are its segmentation and automation features. It helps me easily manage my audience's interests. Let me address each separately. First, segmentation. ActiveCampaign's tagging feature is the best in the industry. Not only can you preset tags in the system, you can also create new ones on the fly as you add them to your contacts — even from third party software. Then, you can create list segments based on those tags, and send broadcast or automated emails only to these segments. It's easy, fast and elegant. I waste no time wrestling with the interface. Second, automation. You can literally automate EVERYTHING in ActiveCampaign. Whether a contact clicks on a link or visits a page, you can send them down a variety of rabbit holes based on their behavior. That feature alone is priceless. Cons I'll say that, so far, I have zero qualms about the software. Perhaps maybe the pricing of the tiers, but that's not really a worthwhile complaint since we're addressing the functionality and benefits of the software here. So far, so great.
