Pros: It has a lot of different and very useful functionalities. You can get very granular with your documentation if you choose to.

Cons: The user interface was rather convoluted and sometimes not very easy to engage. There would be multiple ways to access different parts of a case file, or different places to deposit similar information, which was very confusing.

Overall: It was at least a basic way to electronically organize and store confidential client information.

Comments: Good program. Bizarre service. Not an optimal combo

Pros: Program good, easy to navigate like many other programs with similar functions. Have used this for a long time and reluctant to switch...so grinning and bearing it with the strangest service I have ever witnessed. Head-spinning actually

Cons: Support is super strange. Took a week and too many emails to get help for a minor fix, and they charge money for a password change. Never been charged fir that before. Left a bad feeling

We use Penelope for scheduling, case noting, and financials. We've been very happy with it.

Pros: The best thing about using this software is the reliability and the customer support. I've been using this software daily for almost two years and the site has only gone down once for about half of a day. Within moments, customer service sent me an email telling me how I could still access the site using a different method. Also, any questions that I've had have been answered with clear and concise instructions within hours. The help section of the software also contains very clear instructions for performing many tasks.

Was involved and led the requirements study to bring Penelope to the Family Service Canada network.

Cons: not at all user-friendly, costly, unreliable for data compilations and billing processes, reports are bad and inflexible, can not be effectively or easily or cheaply customized and adapted to needs, I could go on. Would be pleased to talk to the CEO or senior directors to propose recommendations and provide more information

PENELOPE offers much in the way of case management, and tracking informal workshops etc

Pros: The software is cloud based and has a wide application for use. We are happy with the software itself.

Cons: The software's wide application for use means lots of options, unfortunately the knowledge base doesn't provide the level of information required or is not easy to navigate. The availability of local technical support and expertise in New Zealand appears limited. It would be good to have face to face contact to talk about our ongoing set up (new programmes) and reporting needs.

Overall: The ability to access and capture case management information securely, and the information from group meetings also both formal and informal.

Best Case Management Software ever! Does everything we need it to and then some!

Pros: The flow of the product; user friendly (our placement students have no difficulty using this software); efficient; accounting portion; great customer service through the help tickets.

Overall: It's all in one - we don't have to fool around with multiple software programs for various functions.

Our agency is transitioning from paper files to electronic doccumentation.

Pros: The ability to have running stats/evaluations which can be printed out and reported on with the click of a button!

Pros: I like the ease of reporting functionality. It is very easy for me to see how often our clients are being serviced & how they are progressing within our programs. I like being able to link records with family members so we can get a wholistic view of what is happening with more than one client in a family group. The technical support that has been given to us has been fantastic.

Cons: Penelope is more suited to a clinical environment. There are a number of features within Penelope that we do not use. Some screens are hard to navigate & has some functions that are not relevant to our program needs. In the beginning of the process members of the Penelope project team with MPREC had a teleconference with customer rep. This was a very long drawn out meeting & was one that all of us did not get any benefit out of. Please when introducing your product find a better person to try to sell the program. Her presentations were very monotone & quite boring. We found ourselves drifting away from the meeting.

UI is poor. Reporting function only in PDF. not SMS friendly. Case file structure = privacy issues

Pros: it has a diary schedule linked to cart items. it's god if you only want Penelope to do one thing, ie, ATAPS service & payments

Cons: UI poor resulting in clunky data entry and more time spent entering data.
not mobile / tablet friendly
Reporting function does not provide dashboard, only reports in pdf or that you have to cut and past into Excel.
Case file / service file structure creates privacy issues - we may have to move away from this product on the basis of legal advice
Lack of technical support available in Australia

Penelope has given us great flexibility with our student counselor population!

Pros: Students have access everywhere; outcome measures are great, and the ability to see visual score charts across time is especially effective for clients.

Cons: It is hard to delete some mistakes. Written instructions are still not as clear as I would like. I still find it complex when setting up new outcome measures.

Overall: Our student counselors are learning great skills in using an electronic records system. Reports are much easier to run, supervisors can access the progress notes and other documents at any time, and can be alerted to situations like suicidal ideation or risk.

Lack of modern functionality, lack of communicating to customers, broken promises with timing.

Pros: The product is targeted to our industry. Its installed and we are used to it. We have little issues with it.

Cons: No portal functionality. No way of connecting external systems for resource management/bookings. No self help intake process (clients filling in their own information).

Excellent software, does what we need and in time may need to roll with changes of improvement

Pros: Understanding the software helps, once you do this and you can appreciate it more and what it does and becomes a very simple solution.

Cons: May need a redesign of the workflow but probably more so in training of navigators. Feedback from customers is essential in developing a catered solution for that market but keeping the same NGO concept of the original design and perhaps improving the use of the product based on your target market.

Overall: Ease of use

It's clunky, appears to be on a platform from the 90s, not intuitive, convoluted, expensive support.

Pros: Case management is OK
Initial costs cheap

Cons: Doesn't work at all for EAPs in Australia.
Reporting is hopeless.
Schedule is as user friendly as a brick.

Pros: The fact that it's mobile friendly makes introducing the database a little more exciting to staff and executives.

Cons: The lack of application or mobile software for worker use. I always get the weird look when workers ask "is there an app?" and I say "No" I'd certainly like to change that response.

Overall: Save time, money and easy access to client files and staff schedules. More efficient with documentation and effective client planning within systems. Access to quick reports and better billing processes.

Pros: I like the versatility within the site. We have numerous programs in our company that we run out of this system.

Cons: Moving from laptop to tablet the forms don't resize well.

Pros: I really like the reports feature. I am able to run a report on almost everything that I have to discuss and report on on a weekly basis.

Cons: I not really fond of the date range on the reports feature. If it is possible can it include the setting "last week" or "previous week".

Pros: For the first time our organization has been able to capture better client and partner data that has allowed our multiple departments to work more cohesively. The ease of use of the Smart Documents and Forms has enhanced the way we gather demographic and program information for grants and funding purposes. While the overall functionality of the database has been very helpful to capturing client and partner data, we hope further updates with the Search function and Calendar will better serve our organizational needs, for example searching by Event Description (specifically Indirect Events). Both the launch support and technical support team have been wonderful to work with and respond quickly to our inquiries.

Overall: Cloud Based, Easy to create Forms, and Smart Docs are great features. Reports within Penelope are great for capturing basic information. Easy for most staff to use.

Cons: It'd be helpful if more fields were more customizable and if reports could be more specific (more Breakdown options) in Penelope instead of having to utilize the Open Database Connectivity. Search function includes many fields to filter by, but not all the fields that we need- would like better customizable search options.

Pros: It is nice that you can build the site around your company. When you have questions, a support staff member is very quick in response.
We have 6 programs running out this program, which makes it easy to gather demographic data for all of them, in one place!

Cons: The only negative was fixed. I had trouble trying to run cross reports for all our programs, but with granted access, I am now able to pull from an Excel spreadsheet for any report.

Overall: This program is primarily used for reporting on our cliental. This software coincides with what we are looking for as we can build it around our company!

Overall: We are happy we decided to go with the penelope emr system. It takes some getting used to in the begging but our staff can certainly say that it has made our lives easier. What I love most is the upgrades, constant changes, and updates. In the future, penelope will probably upload docs on its own, lol.

Comments: Penelope is a robust case management software that has numerous flexible areas to meet the demands of differing social service agencies. Our agency, consisting of 50 clinicians, has mental health contracts with state, county and insurances -- all of which Penelope can manage quite well.
Service and support are usually responsive. Although we are struggling to get Athena software to add some new features that most health care software has already incorporated, such as integrated client sign ins.
There are some innovative features such as incorporate the ORS and field to add other outcomes measures.
Canned reports meet basic needs, but custom reports are not only possible, but are utilized by us on a routine basis.
Overall we are satisfied with Penelope.

Pros: MOST FEATURES HELPFUL

Cons: FEATURES WE MAY NEED TO PAY FOR, WHICH SEEM TO BE A PART OF DATABASE.

Overall: I love penelope, as the person who built out our shell. I've trained over 200 ppl in 6 months. Savvy users find easy, others need additional sessions. As far as implementing the system to fit our needs, most options works for us, other items we may need to pay the additional fees in order to implement. Overall, it has a life saver.

Recommendations to other buyers: Provide and send more detailed updated tutorials and workflows as the systems update and change. Be aware of system features that need to implemented/escalated which may hold a company back from moving forward, stay in contact with the person who demanded the change and let them follow the status of escalated events.

Pros: The reports are easy to to understand - especially to non-user stakeholders and our clients. The forms are easy to create and adjust, and the billing/ cart system is easy for my staff to use for their billable hours.

Overall: We are a care coordination division of a TPA, providing case management, utilization management, care transitions, and chronic condition management services to 80,000 members. Penelope has been so easy for us to use. The nurses love it, because they can communicate with other team, have our MD remotely look at notes, and we can easily pull case reports for underwriters.
I used Penelope in my former job, and when we did this start up, it was the first thing I thought of to use. The support staff are friendly and understanding, and are great with training. I would highly recommend.

Overall: I've been using Athena's Penelope Case Management Tool in our Community Acquired Brain Injury service for over 8 years. In that time it's proven itself a valuable and reliable source of organisational data as well as an essential tool for sharing person-centred information within a multi-d team.

It's powerful out of the box, but can be configured to many different kinds of interaction. Being cloud based, it makes accessing the records you need easy, whether you're working onsite or off.

Athena have managed to evolve the system impressively, and it has more than kept pace with changes in the way we work and use technology.

Pros: The versatility. It has a ton of user defined fields that can be setup in any combination that works for your agency. Billing is relatively simple and creating service units and activities is easy to do. Tech support has been very good over the years and the system is very rarely down. System outage issues just don't exist.

Cons: I would like to have a report writer system build into Penelope instead of using pivot tables to create customized reports.

Overall: We have used Penelope Case Management system since 2003. It is very versatile and many changes have been done to make it portable and easy to use. The ability to create documents for our own needs is a fantastic function of the system. We have created Initial Assessments, Progress/Closing Documents, activity notes and outcome tracking forms all for our specific needs. The ability to customize fields at all levels for the system to track information we need for grants and statistics is also very helpful.
I would recommend this system to any one agency or organization that tracks a variety of data elements and wants to organize your data to meet your needs.

Cons: Not overly intuitive

Overall: Penelope is used at my workplace to document client interactions. In many ways, the system is complex and integrated. It allows our 110-member staff to record information in the correct categories. We are able to source the data collected from Penelope and integrate it into our excel spreadsheets. There are some bugs that create mild frustration, but overall, it was programmed by a specialist here to suit our needs. I am grateful we have the program.

Recommendations to other buyers: When someone closes out of the software, it should log them out as well
