Pros: It's efficient, simple and widely used among other disciplines in the industry. I appreciate that Autodesk offered free education version which helps graduated students to catch up faster in their professional life. It's easy to learn and satisfied most of the tasks that I required Autocad to do.

Cons: Can't seem to tell the difference between each upgrade. Hatch is still pretty bad and sometimes printed funny. Sometimes I still relies on lisps to resolve my issues. Feel like AutoCAD is a bit stagnant while Revit is catching up so fast. Stilll experiencing mild hiccups in editing blocks and switching paper space.

Overall: It's an industrial standard software. It's important in doing quick draft and communication with other construction disciplines.

Pros: It can do much in so little time. If you want to draft a new idea in a presentable form, this is the perfect tool because of its ease of use.

Cons: Some AI features could be added that would make modeling simpler. Certain steps in the modeling process are tedious and they do not have to be.

Pros: The ability to create blocks was very helpful for my work. The layer system is also very easy to understand and use. Being able to put a stored block into the current layer is a very good feature. I like that such a large amount of data can be easily represented in a single file.

Cons: Needing to know line dimensions before drawing them is kind of annoying. I wish there were a way to draw a line, and afterwards input the dimension, and have the length update to the input dimension (like in Solidworks). I also found the trim feature to be somewhat annoying. I wish that all of the lines you wish to trim didn't need to be selected in order to do a trim. Other CAD softwares are smart enough to know what they are trimming. The snap too points should also automatically appear, It was a little troubling to have to use the hotkeys to display them. Also it would be nice to be able to double click on a feature within a group and be able to edit it, as opposed to having to break the grouping.

Overall: I was able to model a building.

Pros: Autocad is powerful and can do almost anything you need it to. We've been using it for a long time and it continues to work as designed.

Cons: Being such a powerful tool can be amazing but also make it complex and hard to learn. Autocad is very profound and can take a long time to master.

I've had a good experience with AutoCAD throughout my time doing drafting work.

Pros: When it comes to designing, AutoCad is as simple as it gets. They make the changes required to keep up with the times but keep enough the same so that the older users can keep up with little to no issues. From basic lines to more complex modeling, there's not much you can't do. I've used many other AutoDesk softwares such as Revit, Civil 3D, and Inventor. They all take notes from AutoCad. Any company that ever has to draw or design must have this tool.

Cons: The modeling in AutoCad is fairly complex and cumbersome. I'm in the Structural Steel industry and we use AutoCad for very small and quick sketches. Anything more complex than a couple of lines and some text gets put into our 3D modeling softwares.

Overall: This software is as simple as it gets when it comes to drawing. That's not a knock, but a compliment. Having this software readily available is unbelievably helpful. There's not always a need to have to go in and model something in 3D. Being able to sit down and sketch up a handrail or ladder in a matter of minutes due to having blocks to work off of is incredibly helpful to our organization.

Pros: As far as the drafting tool is concerned, it is unmatched and definitely most popular one. Fast, reliable and precise. In the architectural work it's great for making quick underlays for further 3D processing in BIM software. The 3D modeling is quite complex with all the coordinate system setup but AutoCAD is very good to create precise 3D models from technical documentation.
It keeps compatibility between different versions. The integration with other Autodesk software is very good.

Cons: The next new versions follow very quickly so yours gets outdated quite fast. There are some very good ideas from other CAD software vendors, and I'd love to have them implemented in next versions of AutoCAD. Better research and listening to the requests of users would be desired.

Overall: I've created a lot of big to small scale successful projects.

Pros: Doesn't have limitations like other software for 3D modeling. Allows you to really create whatever your mind can think of.

Cons: Definitely a learning curve in first using the software. I learned how to use it in school and it took awhile to really understand the software. I know there is always more to learn but luckily once you know the basics it gets better.

Pros: Overly it is great in use. It makes easy to find a quantity of material and make easy to calculate quantity by drawing.
It is user friendly to pick up the basics of the program and start drawing right away.

Cons: Jobs like drafting can be tied to the economy, so during recessions many can be laid off. So these jobs can therefore be outsourced to other countries where employers can pay lower wages.

Overall: Make all work easy with efficiency.

Pros: The 3D design has improved so much, this is an awesome tool for interior design. Drawings are so much easier than before. I feel that updates have had some valuable additions.

Cons: For some reason it's so much easier to use it in a Mac than a PC, So everything it does the price might be fair, but still, it can be too much for a freelancer or someone who's starting a business. Even it's a great tool if you are not 100% familiarized with the program it can be intimidating and not as user friendly.

Pros: AutoCad can be used easily to draft in many types of industry. As an architect this is my standard Cad software, I use AutoCad daily to make architectural projects, construction plans, reviews, make presentations, export drawings to other programs, etc. With its useful tools and commands as, layer, types of lines, styles, printing scales is quicker and easy to draft all my ideas and then fill them with all the information that the project require. I can handle all this information very organized and make corrections easily when I needed. AutoCad also offers preciseness which can be always used in the calculations of the project.

Cons: I use AutoCad for my Architecture projects, which is a field that requires a lot of graphic vision. Maybe AutoCad could advance in the field of aesthetic options, more hatch and patterns for example. Also, the hatch often gives me errors and it's a bit difficult to apply or tend to lag at times. It's not very good when it comes to just making 3D Rendering, I have to definitely use another program to do it.

Another disadvantage is that AutoCad is being relegated by BIM programs specially Revit in which you can handle more information in the model and easily make modifications on the file.

Pros: AutoCAD is very intuitive, starting with the simplest of tools. I can use the software out of the box, but with some tutorials, can begin using the more advanced features. Since I'm not super artistic, AutoCAD helps me get my ideas on paper.

Cons: I wish it had better 3D modeling tools, and the software does tend to lag sometimes. That could just be my machine. Make sure you have the RAM necessary to use the software well.

Pros: I was able to sit with a book and teach myself enough of the capabilities of this product to get a job. It is intuitive and flexible. Once I was at that job, we were able to customize the product to meet our specific needs. It can do just about anything you need it to. There are capabilities that advance users can access that don't get in the way of other users.

Cons: It's a bit too expensive for us to give copies to everyone that could use it, so we give it to those who need it. It would be nice to be able to give it to more folks in the office, but I understand that to keep the software up to date and continuing to develop, they need to income. Just because I understand it doesn't mean I like it. :)

Overall: We're able to take drawings from other designers, to integrate their info with ours. With the software, we're able to quickly incorporate our information into the drawing packages that we send out.

Overall pretty good and smooth experience with the software.

Pros: 1. Down to earth basic functions.
2. Very flexible. Can do pretty much everything we need, either 2D or 3D, for office or the field.

Cons: 1. The software does go freezing or crushing and sometime couldn't get recovered.
2. The file size goes up so easily and often over 20 MB, especially when drawing in 3D, which means couldn't send to others via email.
3. The fonts, publishing color file (.ctb) and X-refs are not transferred when the CAD file is sent to others. Hopefully it could be some library built-in with the file itself.

Pros: What I like most about this software is that it links very nicely with other software that we use like stryker, it also works very well with rendered drawings from Inkscape and other software packages, Limitless undo's are a plus when drawing.

Cons: Two of the biggest dislikes about Auto CAD are that you cant edit a drawing just by changing a dimension on the drawing, for example if I draw a 1/2 inch circle I cant just change the 1/2 inch dimension to 3/4 inches and expect AutoCAD to update the drawing. from my experience with this software I understand that it is not like parametric modeling in that it is not real time for lack of a better term.

Overall: Works well with some of our 2-D cutting machines, Laser Water Jet and turret punch

Pros: I like how this software, only does exactly as you tell it to do. I may not have some of the fancy facets of specialized software, but it is pure in its ability to be exact, and demands creativity for certain problems to be solved.

Cons: What I dislike is always part of what I like the most, AutoCAD is not going to be doing most of of the work for you, so some tasks become drawn out or repetitive.

Overall: This software has made me adhere to the precision that I would demand from the product itself. It keeps me sharp, and lets anything imaginable be seen with your eyes.

Pros: What I like most is the base platform of CAD skills that can be transferred across the industry. If you know AutoCAD you can use most other software.

Cons: What I like least is the user licensing for this software. They are pushing to remove owned seats and move everyone to subscriptions which will force you to continue paying for an already over priced software.

Pros: It is the standard in industry, and it is very reliable. Most people in engineering know how to use it already.

Pros: The newer versions make features that are a lot like REVIT easier to use. I love that the HELP and the AUTOCAD help library makes finding design solutions easier. I use to have such a hard time finding help for commands or actions. I also love how there are multiple ways to do a function.

Cons: I had a hard time finding the new shortcuts for some of the commands. EXAMPLE: LAYON changed to LAYUNISO and I could not figure out why my layers were stil grayed out after used the LAYON command.

Overall: This software is the standard across the board with design and architecture. Even if I change jobs , I am confident that they will be using AutoCAD and AutoDesk software.

Pros: The software is somewhat intuitive and allows even novice users to prepare drawings with only limited experience. The software also allows experienced users to create professional drawings for conceptual as well as building uses in a short span of time. Required drawing revisions/changes are also easily performed and can be reverted should the need arise.

Cons: Sometimes the software will get bogged down making the drawing process slow and tedious. This is usually corrected by saving and restarting the program. The software also has major updates every few years usually requiring the users to have to search the help document or the program to learn where certain features are now accessible.

Pros: I like to make lots of blueprints for computer parts, I have been using this software since I was in college and it has always been easy to use.

Cons: When I am editing a project, the positioning vertical marker doesn't displayed when I try to move a piece of text from one place to another.

Pros: intuitive. I was able to use this program at a beginners level entry and was able to design within a couple of days.

Cons: long loading time. There are times that I am not sure if I clicked the program or not. Then I wait for the program to load for a few minutes. Once the program is loaded it runs smooth. So I take that and its fine.

Overall: Everyone knows this software so YouTube is very helpful in designing drawings and or tricks. Plus the company is constantly updating and giving users more capabilities.

Pros: I appreciate the ability to create complex drawings that are easily manipulated and simplified. Creating and organizing layers is easy to do. There are infinite possibilities with all the tools available.

Cons: It has a learning curve with respect to learning commands and when it comes to printing. It also works best when all aspects of the drawing are thought out before hand. It can be difficult to go back and separate components if they are within the same layer.

Overall: I am still learning, but this software makes it easier to locate architectural or waterproofing issues in buildings.

Pros: I have been using AutoCAD since release 14 in the late 1990's. New tools and commands have made drafting and design that much easier. Plans can be drawn up in minutes and hours, not days.

Cons: The bugs in AutoCAD can be down right annoying. Autodesk Help is not all that helpful most f the time, when it is a widespread bug. Look toward Google in order to help resolve a lot of issues.

Overall: Makes my life that much easier. Having been in manual drafting to computer aided design.. makes anyone's life that much easier...until the software bugs start...fatal errors before saving, etc. But at least there are backup files.

Pros: This is the industry standard in creating 2d vector dwgs. All other vector programs like Adobe Illustrator and others have import options to bringing in AutoCAD dwgs (there's a reason for that). Its the program taught in most architecture/engineering/drafting schools and is what Revit modeling program is loosely based on. All 2d drafting starts here.

Cons: Once you move on from the 2d space to 3d, you will see the limitations of AutoCAD. This is strictly catered for 2d dwgs and it is very difficult to link dwgs across separate files as you would be able to do in BIM programs.

Overall: This is the base of the pyramid. You can't go anywhere in drafting without this program.

What really sets Autodesk apart is what's happening under the hood and behind the scenes.

AutoCAD is optimized to run very smoothly and often feels faster than competitors. Furthermore, A360 is perhaps the greatest tool for collaboration and central storage of files. The communication and compatibility between AutoCAD and other Autodesk software like Revit, Navisworks, and A360 make switching from application to application easy. AutoCAD's free viewer and app are also valuable tools to share with stakeholders, allowing them to see these technical drawings without write-rights.

Comments: One of my duties is to design reverse plated diamond rolls for use with creep feed grinders. The diamond roll will be used to produce a particular profile in an aluminum oxide grinding wheel so that the wheel can reproduce the form in metal parts.
Briefly, reverse plating requires a profile to be machined on the inside of a cylindrical mold. This method of plating produces a roll where the diamonds are between the aluminum oxide wheel and the plating when the dressing is performed. Typically, this roll is referred to as a crush roll. If direct plating was employed, the dressing action would remove plating allowing diamond loss and therefore the loss of the form. In addition, two-dimensional files are desired for the machine shop's CNC equipment to easily pull in and drive the tool path.
Another need is to simulate the grinding action and predict the resulting profile. The grinders utilize oscillating interpolated motion to produce the final ground profile. AutoCAD 2D allows me to quickly use the just designed 2D profile and produce a polar array that simulates the action of the grinder thus verifying that my design will produce the desired profile.
In a nut shell, I really do like Autodesk Inventor and SolidWorks for modelling, but the power and ease of AutoCAD 2D makes it the tool of choice when producing profiles for use with CNC equipment. (i.e., laser cutting, turning, water-jet, etc.)

Pros: It is very flexible and can be all things to all people. There are a dozen different ways to do everything, some are easier than others, some are just user preference. Overall this is a strong program that has matured well from the early days. There are very few bugs and nothing major. Bug fixes are usually handled quickly by AutoDesk.

Cons: It is a complex program to learn. It takes a great deal of time to learn to use all of the features. Truth be told most users only use a fraction of the features available to them.

Overall: AutoCAD is a great highly versatile piece of software. It is highly customizable. There are a multitude of third party applications that can be added on to get a custom feel without being a programmer. This is not a sit down a sit down and start drawing type of software. It takes time to learn but once learned it becomes an extension of the user.

Comments: Depending on what you need this software for it's in a league of its own. I found there was a definite learning curve having used other drafting software and definitely took some getting use to. I'm sure there are a lot of features of this program I still have yet to learn but if you're a first timer and only using it occasional it's probably not worth learning
