Pros This is one of the most powerful development IDEs and it is ever improving. Its intellisense and Intellitrace features are awesome. Cons Performance. Bootstrapping of code, integration with cloud repositories. Pros Visual Studio is heavy, but it has progressed immensely over the years and that is one thing that I love about it. It became lighter, it supports multiple languages and it no longer feels as a just microsoft IDE. Cons It is still heavy. Dont get me wrong it is a quality software with multiple capabilities, however I would still like to be able to run it on a medium laptop without making the fans go on full speed. The existence of a community version has allowed everyone to know the product and fully appreciate it. It is also possible to use it to develop software on platforms other than the traditional PC Cons If you decide to install the whole suite you will notice a high disk usage, for this reason I prefer to install only what I will use. Sometimes Visual Studio slows down the whole system without having done anything in particular, this is a disadvantage especially when you are debugging a project. Back when we first bought it it was part of the old MSDN subscription now it is "Dev essentials" or some such name. Another annual subscription, but well worth it for serious development support. Pros Between Microsoft "dog-fooding" their own tools and the move to OpenSource, Visual Studio has really blossomed into a quality tool. I started using Microsoft's IDE back in the early 90's when it was C++ and stuck with it during the dark "Inter-dev" days. Now it is a solid, multi-language, multi-platform development tool with seamless integrations to TFS for ALM, Git, and Azure. Cons It is complex. I had to drink some coolaide to buy into github and all the separately downloadable components, and I do wish it had more in the way of wizards for advanced tasks like Azure management. It is easy to see the whole project and search across code. I can also easily track references to variables and classes. It also has a good linter to catch mistakes. I like to keep my code simple and not use features that make you write less because it makes me learn less. Cons I think the controls could be explained better. March 31, 2021 5.0 I've been using this program for almost 2 years now and always used it for HTML, CSS, C #, C ++, C ... and now I'm using it to replace the traditional Arduino IDE. Through a third party extension I am able to debug and other things from the Arduino with this IDE. There is no way to compare this IDE with the traditional Arduino, Visual Studio is much richer in features. Pros This program / IDE, Microsoft Visual Studio, has a very appealing and customizable interface! This program allows you to add extensions that allow you to improve the speed of your programming. It is also possible to add, modify shortcuts and this is very important in an IDE, as it makes programming faster once more. For those people who work with arduino like me, it is possible to use this IDE using an extension and thus replacing the traditional Arduino IDE. Cons I don't have many complaints about this program, the only fact that I have noticed lately is that sometimes the program starts lagging and then I need to restart it.
