### "Best IDE"

January 13, 2023

5.0

I have been through many IDEs and ever since I started working with Visual Studio, it has been the best development environment I have found. Perfect for web development in my personal experience.

Pros

All about this IDE are Pros, the best IDE you will find in the market, good GUI and so much support, so many extensions in the marketplace that it will accommodate the perfect developing environment for you, I have tried many IDEs before, ever since I tried Microsoft Visual Studio, I haven't found a better one.

Cons

The only Con I have is that sometimes, it takes a while to update your local host when deployed and make changes to your code.

### "The Standard for Windows programming"

December 24, 2019

5.0

I basically use Visual Studio daily. I have no complaints other than I wish they had more customizability like it's little brother Visual Studio Code is getting and with time, Visual Studio Code just does what it's big brother does better. But yet, nothing can replace Visual Studio in my work flow and that won't be changing in the next years to come.

Pros

You can almost use/code in any language on the IDE, if you're missing features, you could look for extensions/plug-ings that add them, like DevExtreme or ReSharper. I mostly code in C# and the Community version for me works fine, but the Enterprise and Professional tiers are also really good. The IDE has been more open in the recent years and that has allowed for more straight updates than rather waiting for service releases or new year branded releases. You can code websites, mobile apps, desktop apps, console apps, service apps, anything related to Azure can be done in VS and yeah, you can easily debug and now in the latest versions, you can live-share a project and have a coworker assist you or work with you on the same project and both debug it. You can also use the live-share feature for teaching someone how to code.

Cons

Sometimes, extensions can be a little buggy. Azure Services, I would recommend a stable connection because it can get laggy. If you're going to use SQL Server in Visual Studio, you're better off downloading Azure Data Studio, because it is more versatile, strong, quicker and responsive than the options Visual Studio provides you. The community can cover you anything you need, but if you're looking for huge enterprise projects, you might want to invest on the paid options, but they can be expensive.

Reason for choosing Microsoft Visual Studio

Not really, unless you use a Mac for Objective-C/Swift which you could use xCode and Android Studio for Native Java coding.

### "Microsoft Visual Studio review"

January 9, 2023

5.0

I've been using Visual Studio for several months now and I have to say it's one of my favorite IDEs. It has a clear and intuitive user interface, making it a great choice for beginner developers. Additionally, the support for many programming languages and platforms is a huge plus, as it allows me to develop for many different platforms without having to switch to a different IDE.The debugger is also very convenient and has helped me easily find and fix errors in my code. The ability to customize the IDE using extensions is also a very useful feature that has allowed me to add additional functionality to meet my needs.Overall, I am very satisfied with Visual Studio and I recommend it to any developers looking for an easy to use and comprehensive IDE. While the Professional edition may be a bit pricey, I think it's worth it for the advanced features it offers.

Pros

I've been using Visual Studio for a few months now and I've never been disappointed. The IDE is very comprehensive and includes all the tools I need to develop my applications. The support for different programming languages and platforms is a huge plus, as it allows me to develop for many different platforms without having to switch to a different IDE.The debugger is also very useful and has allowed me to easily find and fix errors in my code. The ability to customize the IDE using extensions is also a very handy feature that has allowed me to add additional functionality to meet my needs.Overall, I am very satisfied with Visual Studio and I recommend it to any developers looking for a comprehensive and powerful IDE.

Cons

Although Visual Studio is generally an excellent IDE, there are a few points that disappointed me. Firstly, the cost of the Professional edition can be quite high for some independent developers or small businesses. Additionally, the user interface can be a bit cluttered and it can be difficult to navigate the IDE if you are not familiar with all the features.Furthermore, I have occasionally experienced stability issues with Visual Studio, including IDE crashes and longer than expected load times. This can be frustrating when working on an important project and you don't have time to waste.Despite these drawbacks, I think Visual Studio remains a solid choice for most developers. If you are willing to invest in a Professional edition and take the time to familiarize yourself with the interface, you will likely be very satisfied with the IDE.

I am very pleased with it. It is a very robust product that serves me daily and despite its shortcoming I never thought of switching it to another IDE

Pros

Has rich features; code development assisting tools; integration with multiple cloud and code management tools;

Cons

Cumbersome GUI at times; it can slow down under load; Mac version lacks features as opposed to windows; visual studio code offers light weight experience in comparison

### "Why you should use VS Code?"

December 15, 2022

5.0

As I use it daily to write and debug errors and it helps me to finish my work with no time consuming. I highly recommend this software.

Pros

It's open-source, Simplicity is also obvious in the performance of VS Code, which is surprisingly good, especially for an Electron programme. Familiarity, web developers who use VS Code are aware of and understand this fact, but not all are, owing to Electron programmes' notoriously high memory use and bad speed and way more features.

Cons

I'm a daily user for VS Code and i cannot find a cons for this framework, it has everything and any tool for daily uses.

### "It just gets better and better"

January 9, 2019

5.0

I started coding with Visual Studio 2005 and now work on a daily basis on 2012, 2015 and 2017. What I have experienced with Visual Studio is consistency and stability. Each new version looks and functions pretty much the same, so there's no real learning curve each time you upgrade(If you know how to use 2005, you will have no trouble with 2017 or later versions). Over the years, debugging performance has also improved, which is another plus for me. From 2015, Team services connects quite nicely as well and the actual loading of Visual Studio for the first time has improved greatly over the years.

Pros

Since 2007, I have used Visual Studio for all of my app development. It is indeed the best tool I have ever come across. Possibilities are endless, from legacy WinForms apps to Web Apps and services, Visual Studio is able to provide you with an easy to use, stable and reliable platform to build your apps on. I am a C# developer who uses it every single day. Built-in features like code-completion and code validation makes it easy for even the beginner to learn. Since Azure came along, deployments have become even simpler, whether published directly, or through Source Control. Another cool thing about Visual Studio is that with every new version, new tools are introduced and new types of projects as well. This makes all of those projects that used to take days to put together, a mere selection of a project type and all of the initial code and structure is generated automatically. Then there's the debugging tools, Nuget, Server explorer, Team explorer and the list just goes on. All of these tools and features in Visual Studio makes it the most powerful of its kind in my opinion and I am sure many others. Microsoft also introduced Visual Studio Community Editions a few years back, which makes it even easier for newbies to start their development careers hassle free.

Cons

For certain project types, certain versions of Visual Studio work best, so I often switch between 2012, 2015 and 2017. I found that 2012 works nicely with older(.NET Framework 4 and below), 2015 for all recent apps, while 2017 works better if you need to debug Azure Websites. Other than that, the IDE has stayed pretty much the same, which is awesome. Nuget packaes sometimes have issues, but I don't use them that often, so I am not really affected negatively by that. The initial install of Visual Studio 2015 and above are web installers, which takes even longer than older versions, so I dread new installs, but after the install, all is good.

### "Indispensable pour les gros projets en .NET"

November 30, 2023

5.0

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Microsoft Visual Studio

Car c'est l'IDE officiel de Microsoft, il est très complet et soutenu par Microsoft et la communauté.

### "MS Visual Studio Review"

June 4, 2021

4.0

I am developing since more than 6 years using Visual Studio and found it the best IDE to develop .NET applications.

Pros

I have been using this software since more than 6 years and have found the following most impactful advantages of it: 1. Code debugging is very much helpful and easy to use for this software. The breakpoints and debug types helps the developer to increase code debugging speed and track bugs much faster & easier. 2. This tool helps in high quality testing for a complete development team by providing Test Explorer option, Live Unit Testing, IntelliTest etc. 3. This tool is very much easy to use for developers by clubbing options relationally. 4. Great and extensive libraries for downloading and using external packages and libraries which are installed according to the version of .NET framework automatically. 5. The 2019 version provides extensive support with Dockers helping in deployment of the software built using it.

Cons

1\. Sometimes, if the project is huge, this IDE can freeze and crash. A factor of system memory also plays a vital role here. 2. Considering point 1, this IDE provides slow performance too. 3. Startup time is a bit slow but it is much optimized in the latest version i.e. VS 2019.

Reason for choosing Microsoft Visual Studio

Visual Studio provides more options than VS Code.

### "Visual Studio Stands out of the Crowd"

My overall experience is really amazing that I am still using it for my almost every work.

Pros

For me as a developer I love the way I code in it. The flexibility to edit is one of the most important key factors.

Cons

I didn't like the debugging feature of the Visual Studio as it is not accurate and it doesn't provide accurate information as compared with others.

### "Integrated Development Environment - Done Right"

August 19, 2021

5.0

I was introduced to the Microsoft Visual Studio IDE in late 2013, and found myself immediately impressed by the automated markup - something I had never encountered before then, save for Borland products (at the time limited to Delphi). What made the interface all the more attractive, was the option of selecting a "theme", or background colour - although this may seem trivial, any developer who spent thousands of hours typing code in black text on a sharp white background at three in the morning will tell you how significant the switch to a darker theme is in terms of eye strain. I was also delighted to learn that Microsoft Visual Studio offered support for most mainstream languages, with partial third-party support for some of the more obscure ones. Support this broad is unprecedented in a single environment.

Pros

Microsoft Visual Studio offers automated, visually-intuitive code markup, all the tools for development and debugging one could ever need, a comprehensive library of extensions and code bases, as well as support for most languages used in the industry - everything Microsoft Visual Studio provides is unprecedented in the field, and has changed the way we develop - indefinitely.

Cons

Although Microsoft Visual Studio offers a "Community Edition" that is free of charge, the commercial/enterprise licenses are quite expensive compared to inexpensive or even free IDEs available. As these alternative IDEs become more complex and offer more modern interfaces over time, Microsoft Visual Studio will have to lower it's price to accommodate small, adaptive teams of developers who lack the capital to invest in the full IDE package.

Reason for choosing Microsoft Visual Studio

Microsoft Visual Studio was the go-to choice the moment I saw and used it for the first time. Now that I'm fully acquainted - and with seven years of experience, it is still difficult to find fault - I can't imagine using another IDE the way I use Microsoft Visual Studio.

### "A user friendly versatile tool for software programmers "

June 9, 2021

We are AI based solutions provider and often our work is in python. So far all my modules are written with the help of VS code. It allows me to write code in javascript and java aswell. Configuring files and creating, altering jsons are easy. Before switching to VS code I always had problems of finding multiple language support and graceful code formatting within a short time. VS code has solved this problem.

Pros

Installation of third party tools, possibility of live code share session and support for several langauges are the most impactful features in my opinion. The product is also relatively easy to use only if you use it frequently have spent sometime to learn about the features like formatting, searching files, functions and text, resolving dependencies etc. Nevertheless it was easier to integrate the product with our business use case.

Cons

The product is somehow sometimes not easy to go around for example to search for files and to search for specific text inside all files is bit confusing, the interface sort of works the same way. Also when dealing with ASCII doc files or tabular form files, there are always 3rd party extensions that are required. Excel files are difficult to format (zig zag columns) but however they only be viewed in a user friendly way. Specifically for python there are sometimes problems with the kernal, even though the right kernal is selected, yet the code fails to run and restarting vs code with the right kernal helps. The same is true for running jupyter inside VS code.

It has been amazing. its the only editor I use since I do not need to go anywhere else. It has everything in it. I do not need to edit python in one editor and html in other, everything is here. And oh my god is intellisense just the best. Especially with unity, it makes life so much better for a developer like me

Pros

1\. Easiness to use once you get the hang of it 2. Extensiveness of features 3. community support 4. Extensions for everything 5. Color coding 6. The Intelli-sense

Cons

1\. No inbuilt guidance (I quite like the softwares with those animation tutorials which help you get started) 2. Quite complicated to start with 3. Does not have custom UI

### "Microsoft Visual Studio makes your coding life easier"

October 16, 2021

5.0

Microsoft Visual Studio is great. I am looking forward to using it for many years to come.

Pros

I have been a user of Microsoft Visual Studio for more than 20 years. It is always easy to use Visual Studio for coding. Visual Studio supports many programming languages such as C++, C#, Visual Basic, JavaScript, Python, and even Java. It highlights the keywords and provides IntelliSense for code completion. Debugging is easy with breakpoints which help me observe the workflow and the values of variables. The deployment is also supported with in Visual Studio.

Cons

Since Visual Studio provides lots of features, it is heavy and requires a lot of storage space. Also, it may take a long time to load. Debugging sometimes is difficult to beginners.

### "Very simple Microsoft Visual Studio coding environment review"

February 22, 2022

5.0

Microsoft Visual Studio is a very powerful software, and majority of the organisations, schools, students, everyone who wants to venture into coding need to learn to keep up with this age. It has been simple and most effective. As a programmer, Microsoft Visual Studio has become an essential when i think of doing any coding work. It has given me the best experience and I have been using it since I was a beginner and it just keeps on getting better with the years. I don't think I would recommend any other software program to anyone other than this one.

Pros

Microsoft Visual Studio is an excellent coding environment software program. It is very easy to use and user friendly. It is easy to manipulate and navigate with clear station of features and buttons. You can never get lost looking for the create new projects or forms. it gives thoroughly detailed options for your choice in forms, especially when choosing between backend coding (it gives the console form) and frontend coding (it gives window forms). The design of the the software program and its option to choose between three types of themes to work in comes as a bonus for a user, I especially like the night / dark theme. Microsoft Visual Studio is a no brainer for me as a programmer because it is flexible when it comes to using different languages like VB, C#, xamarin, sql, html, javascript etc. It accommodates all and thus the first go to coding environment for me, even when i was a beginner up to now a frequent user. You can never go wrong with Microsoft Visual Studio, you'll definitely love it. I would suggest purchasing the software and beginning your positive coding experience today.

Cons

As all technology, there are a few drawbacks, I think microsoft visual studio should have a feature for adding gifs and videos to the windows form when designing an application. It would be easier to create applications with more visual and interacting with such a feature.

### "Visual Studio 2022 - Better than the rest"

April 3, 2022

5.0

My early use of VS was not very impressive, coming from a Delphi background, but as time wore on the features and performance of Visual Studio has improved drastically to where it is now. The new 2022 version is faster to load and lighter on memory, while packing in more features!

Pros

The intelligent code helpers and formatters help me in my day to day development. The new AI assisted code generation is amazing and uses it's knowledge of your coding style and it's vast training on GitHub to help predict and type for you.

Cons

In the past, it was extremely resource hungry, and it has improved a lot with 2022, but I would like to see a way to use Visual Studio in a more light weight fashion for a more "mobile" friendly footprint.

### "Visual Studio is the Gold Standard"

March 5, 2022

5.0

Visual Studio isn't necessarily the easiest software to code in, nor does it have all of the best bells and whistles, but it does offer a solid, stable, and reliable platform that is great for most users. I have been recommended other software but none offer the complete package that Visual Studio does at a similar price point.

Pros

Visual Studio has a lot of plugins that make coding easier to iterate, clearer to read, and overall a better experience. The sheer amount of plugins, addons, and support is fantastic. Tools such as intellisense, autoformatting, and the ability to color code different types, functions, namespaces, and so-forth makes using Visual Studio a breeze.

Cons

Other IDE such as jetbrains rider have much cleaner interfaces. This does improve readability, but other than the interface being cleaner the software functionality is almost identical. At which point it makes sense to keep with the standard (Visual Studio).

I am very satisfied with my developing experience in Visual Studio and I will continue using it for the foreseeable future.

Pros

I’m most happy with ability of being able to code different languages or dialects in the same IDE, while maintaining the comfortably of my coding space. The IDE is also highly customisable by adding plug-ins or reconfiguring keybindings.

Cons

Occasionally, the IDE has frozen during the debugging process, requiring a restart of the application. Loading big projects can also take quite some time and sometimes causes the IDE to crash.

### "Great for starting your coding journey! "

December 31, 2021

Visual Studio has given me so many tools to develop complex business solutions or small projects with such ease, that I keep going back to it when I try using another IDE.

Pros

What's great about Visual Studio is that it supports a large amount of languages, technologies and creating any kind of projects, from simple ones to large scale business solutions. You can easily start learning your way into programming with Visual Studio and continue using it as you grow in this environment.

Cons

A few times I encountered problems where my code was completely functional, but still had compilation errors. After spending a lot of time debugging, I closed Visual Studio and opened it again, resulting in my project compiling as it should have. This tends to happen when you've been working for a long period of time without shutting down your PC.

### "12 years of Visual Studio and Still love it"

February 1, 2019

A powerful tool from Microsoft. It's foothold on the code development market is strong and will probably stay strong for a very long time. There are lot of forums and discussion sites dedicated to Visual Studio so learning VS means you have access to lots of resources. People have built their career on this tool so I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Pros

I have been using Microsoft visual Studio for past 10 years plus and it just keeps getting better. It is one of the most advanced product from Microsoft and it is very well known throughout the Engineering industry, - Code writing and storage I use it on a daily basis for development of code in C, C++ and C#. The IDE is extremely strong and full of useful libraries. It has lot of features that aids in the proper design and development of the code. - Code comparison One thing that is really powerful about Visual studio is that you can extend the software capability to many other areas. Using Team foundation Server (TFS) from visual studio one can store code and perform revision control with different change-sets. It is a very strong tool to also compare codes between different change-sets or with the directory on the desktop. - Allowing Extensions Microsoft Visual studio allows third party extension which makes this already powerful tool even more powerful by being able to expand the platform. - Replication with Application With the powerful IDE platform, debugging is like a piece of cake. Development of Graphical user Interface (GUI) can also be done through studio and release it as applications that can be installed in many computers.

Cons

I don't see many cons of Visual Studio except, - Price It is a powerful tool so of course getting multiple licenses will be pricey. - Error codes it could do a lot better in analyzing the source code and explaining what the error is. The error are pretty vague and one would need some learning curve to understand what is wrong - High load on the system Visual studio is big, massive and will require some powerful machine in order to not feel like the computer is lagging. Usually I shut off all my applications if I am working on VS.

### "First Rate IDE"

March 1, 2019

5.0

The biggest benefit I get from Visual Studio is the ease of getting a new project up and running. This is a flagship project for Microsoft and it's apparent because they continually find ways to make it more useful which translates to quicker, more efficient code and project delivery. I would be crippled in my day to day responsibilities without it.

Pros

I've used various flavors of Eclipse and IntelliJ on Java projects but I look forward to working in .NET because in my opinion, Visual Studio is a superior IDE. There are so many great features that it's impossible to enumerate them all but some of them I like most are: 1- Projects can be cleanly contained within solutions (a feature Java IDEs don't support) 2- Cleanly integrates with NuGet for package management (doesn't require wacky XML updates like Maven) 3- Has the best code completion and auto-suggest of all IDEs 4- Comes pre-built with so many useful starter projects so it's easy to hit the ground running without a lot of setup 5- It offers a myriad of extensions 6- Its easily the best IDE for writing against CLI languages but is also an excellent environment for writing in Python and other scripting languages 7- It cleanly supports various source control solutions (TFS, Git etc.) 8- It does a really great job of providing a one stop shop for managing cloud and database assets right in the IDE 9- Provides excellent support and design time feedback for unit testing 10- Provides excellent collaboration capabilities I could go on and on. I love Visual Studio.

Cons

There's really not much to dislike about Visual Studio. It has so many features that it can be overwhelming knowing where everything is and how to make the best use of them. But unlike many other IDEs, I feel like Visual Studio is the most intuitive from that perspective too.

Visual Studio is a great beginner-friendly development tool which provides the best debugging features, work flow templates, and Gui for efficient coding experience.

Pros

As mentioned before, Microsoft's visual studio has great comparison feature and debugging features. I frequently use the code comparison for code merging and to compare the code between different environments. It is very efficient to catch errors using the inbuilt debugging feature in visual studio.

Cons

The least I like about Microsoft visual studio is the collaboration is only really quick if its other Microsoft tools.
