Not intuitive. It encourages the user to export requirements to spreadsheets for analysis, since formatting trace views is limited to columns and requirements with long text get cut-off. There is no what to view more than two levels simultaneously. I have found that it is easier to export to csv files, and then to run a python script that I wrote to reformat and write a file that can easily be formatted and viewed in Excel. From my current experience with the tool over the last 5 months, I don't trust it to manage requirements and traceability over baselines.

Pros

\+ It uses a tree and list format for accessing requirements and baselines. + It has an API to extend to other tools.

Cons

\- Coming on to a large program with Digital Thread needs, I was not impressed by the lack of connectivity to other tools. - When deleting a requirement, it deletes it from previous baselines. - The object limit is not large enough for very large projects. - When reviewing requirements in a Jama review, the screen scrolls back up to the first requirement in the pane after checking the requirement reviewed button. - Trace views don't show all of the requirement text, which requires users to export the data to analyze the requirement trace. - Documentation is management glossy level and lacking details. - The application becomes slow, when the project is very large.

Pros

Requirements and change management with up and down stream relationships with requirements, use cases, design, tests

Cons

Very expensive for organization to continue. Document export required lot of adjustments to be presentable.

I am an admin and active user and I love this product! I cant do my job without it!

Pros

Tracks my requirements, helps collaborate with other engineers on requirements, the Jama Reviews and change process is easy to implement and use. They also added e-signatures for approvers which has been key in baselining requirements.

Cons

Its hard to separate admin access from create access, though recently Jama implemented changes to admin usage and its helped. The baselining feature is not strong either, rather, items are baselined per review regardless of approvals and rejections.

Reasons for choosing Jama Connect

It is a much friendlier tool.

A concise, centralized repository for defining new product marketing and customer requirements, administered with rules-based workflow. There is flexibility to maintain requirements per time-based, dollarized roadmap. The downstream EARS/SEARS brings entire product development team into a tight-knit collaborative environment where SW links and dependencies manage the evolution of requirements and downstream changes

Overall experience using Jama Connect has been really good. I would definitely recommend it to my colleagues.

Pros

Jama provides a very user-friendly interface with a lot of intuitive functionality. Provides requirement traceability and also versioning. The functionality to apply filters has been implemented better than most of its competitors in the market.

Cons

The text editor can be a little difficult for a first time user and can be made more intuitive. Filtering can be made more convenient to use.

I love how Jama tracks changes. When creating a document it is easier for multiple people to edit it at once than Word.

It is different than other document software so some people have a hard time learning it.

Pros

Web-based and much cheaper option than DOORS. Learning curve is really flat. No need for professional IT engineers to maintain the system

Data export an import extremely not convenient. Now only support export to excel. After excel export, the sheet is not the same format as seen in Jama and it takes me long time to reformat the sheet in excel. 3rd party tools integration is not ideal, like the support to EA, Github,...

The main benefit I get from this software as an engineer is that I have a controlled and organized way to keep track of the requirements for a new product we are developing. This is shared with other teams and is organized in an acceptable way for future FDA approval.

Pros

The best part of Jama is that it creates an easy to navigate and flexible system where our company can keep track of system, sub-system, and component requirements for a product that we are going to get FDA approved.

Cons

Once you get into the software and know how you are going to use it, it is pretty simple. When I was first introduced to it, however, it did take me a little while to catch onto the workflow.
