Comments: If you have foreign-based tax clients, or domestic clients with foreign earned income, Proseries works flawlessly. If you prefer a forms-based software, Proseries is the best, with little-to-no jumping around to various screens.

Pros: - Input: It works well as forms-based, unlike other "forms-based input" programs who have a pop-up window saying, "you can't information here, go to the ....". Proseries has worksheets built into the actual forms (Schedule B, C, etc.) - Very easy to work with. - Foreign: Works well with Preparers who have a foreign address (me) AND Clients with foreign addresses (all my clients). Whoever wrote that it won't, well, they don't know what they are talking about. Foreign income flows to the 1040 simply by checking a box, rather than having to fill out a "substitute W-2" like most other tax software. - No need to fill out a 1099 for interest or dividend income, like most other software. Proseries has a simple worksheet within the schedule B form. (Foreign clients do not receive US government forms like the 1099s or W-2s.) - ProSeries works extremely well for professionals who understand tax. (I can't speak for newbies who have no idea what form goes with what income/expense/etc., and don't really understand how everything flows to the actual return.) - Foreign Reporting: FBAR. E-filing of the Form 114 (FBAR) is within each tax client and is e-filed with the 1040 and states. All returns, including states and the FBAR are in the homebase and in the e-file center. Easy!

Cons: - PRICE! - The Online version is not as good as the desktop version. Pity. - Small complaint: The Form 1116 explanation isn't self-populating (Foreign Tax reduction). - Small complaint: Not being able to open more than one return at a time, such as when working with 8615 or an 8854 (dual status return/statement). - Small complaint: Form 8938 not populating Treasury form 114 (FBAR) or vice versa.

Intuit's ProSeries is easiest to learn and to use.

Comments: It's consider the Best tax software to learn and to use because of its overall simplicity of its interface and functionality. The costs to that is the lack of available forms, mediocre tech support, rising price and growing limitations (see Cons). The company does NOT really listen to users in ADDING forms/worksheets which is one of the biggest complaints.

Pros: Relatively easy to learn and to use Many worksheets are form based so it's based on the tax forms themselves Able to create sub-statements to add details Able to link from/import from ATB (old trial balance software) so data prep is reduced and links are transferred to future years The Fixed Asset Manager (FAM) software, sold separately, does a Much better job regarding fixed assets than the depreciation section built into the Sch C/E which is very limited, esp. for reporting purposes, which is why FAM is needed. The Doc Mgmt System (DMS), sold separately, is tied Intuit and is VERY basic but it works for scanning documents to help create a paperless system. Buy the ProSeries Professional version and NEVER the ProSeries BASIC version as the former has more functionality.

Cons: Not enough worksheets esp. to show calculations Missing K-1 basis worksheets for 1120-S/1065 K-1s so limitations must be done manually by sub-statements help but not much Intuit does NOT include many forms even if requested by users for MANY YEARS! Tech support is NOT that good! Price has risen significantly over the years! Companion DMS (Doc Mgmt System) is tied Intuit and can't be used as Stand-Alone feature and has VERY LIMITED features like Backup options or the ability to Truncate years to backup! Also, can NOT be used to Import Scanned doc info into ProSeries! Do NOT use ProSeries Basic as it removes much of the Functionality of the ProSeries Prof version as it done to keep the price low and meant primarily for 1040 users for simpler returns. Intuit does NOT limit the functionality of ProSeries Pro version to use the Basic features so you'll need to buy the Basic version which is Very STUPID! Other tax software makers just LIMIT their programs' functionality while using ONE version instead of Dumbing it down to sell!

Comments: The software is an easy functionality transition if one is familiar with turbotax, another Intuit product. It has more advanced features useful to a professional and some interesting helpful aids.

Pros: It is one of the less expensive packages available for professionals, and since it works off the IRS looking forms, is easy to use for someone familiar with IRS forms. It has a rapid learning curve from turbotax, but is not that intuitive for some of the more intricate bells and whistles the program offers.

Cons: The conversion of prior years tax files to Pro-series is a bit awkward, especially if converting the same company's turbotax files. While the sales reps tell you it will convert last year's turbotax files, it really will not. to do so requires one to obtain the current year's version of turbotax, convert last year's turbotax files to this year's turbotax files AND THEN convert THIS YEAR's TurboTax to Pro-Series! Now that's a trip and a very misleading statement from their sales force if one has to purchase this year's turbotax in order to do the conversion!\ The file system is a bit awkward also in that you must designate a place for ALL the client files. We like to keep a client's files together, the data file from the tax software along with W-2's, 1099s, K-1s etc in a file under the client's name and not group the tax software file with other client's. Once one gets used to this, it is workable but if you move a file you get a lot of strange reactions to the program. While it doesn't cause errors in the tax file or calculation, it will not print or e-file a return even if you launch the program from the data file location!

Recommendations to other buyers: Try it and see for yourself. You should be able to get a free trial. I had 2 trial programs over several years but couldn't file one return with them for one reason or another. I was pissed with their support as no one really listened to my problem description and as a result, last year I could not file one return by April 15th because of something they coded wrong with IRS required information, and I gave them my IRS print-out that had all the required information. that sucked. As a result, until I got one return e-filed (which didn't happen during the whole season) I processed client returns on another program so my familiarity and love of this program became minimal and somewhat useless as a viable program, Perhaps others will have better luck. I would give it another try. The first time I was pissed that I had to buy another program just to use the trial version which they say is a full working program.

Pros: THE 1040s WERE EASY TO USE BECAUSE OF THE WORKSHEETS. THE HELP KEY WAS USEFUL IN THE 1040 BUT IT IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE BUSINESS RETURNS.

Cons: Business: With 1065, 1041, & 1120s most of the times the shareholder, trustee, partner is an officer or TMP. On their K-1 worksheets shareholder/partner worksheet just have a box to check and the program automatically transfers the information to the officer/TMO/general partner on page 1. When importing K-1s should auto update the old K-1s should not have to delete K-1s and then import. Also whenever a 1120s/1041/1065 is changed the linked 1040 should be notified when the preparer opens it to update the return. Be able to do Grantor Trust returns, populating the return. Import K-1s from within the program to 1120s. Mass asset disposition(BULK SALE) LINKED TO of fixed asset worksheets. Populate the Balance from the fixed asset work sheets for cost and accumulated depreciation. On the depreciation report subtract the sold assets after they are totaled. PROGRAM SHOULD ALLOW US TO EFILE 1041s WITH FOREIGN TAX CREDITS. THE "WHERE TO ENTER" (HELP) SHOULD BE AVAILABLE ON THE BUSINESS RETURNS ALSO. Personal: W-2s/1099s - By putting the FEI # the w-2 should populate the worksheets. 1040 when starting a dependent tax return the program should get all the information when the SS# is entered. PUT RENTAL INCOME/LOSS AND ORDINARY INCOME/LOSS ON THE SAME K-1. Software cannot add more than 1 person to 1095-A part 4 sharing of insurance policies Printing Need to select: Letters, Invoice, and tax return to print all at once. Letters sold respond to forms being filed, such as 1040x, 4865, etc. with mailing instructions. EFILING Have more sorting options such as 1040s, 1120Ss, etc. Software auto sends an email that the return was filed. We client always ask for confirmation if not.

Comments: I mentioned earlier that the Customer Service was very helpful and they always resolved my issue when I had to call in. I also really enjoyed the fact that if you had only purchased the Unlimited 1040 returns, as I had, it was very simple to add on the 1120S returns and 1065 returns for S-Corporations and Partnership returns. My firm prepares a variety of business returns and individual returns so being able to add the capability of each return type was definitely a plus for me! I would recommend this software for those Accountants who are just starting out and might not know how many tax returns they will be preparing at first or even what types of tax returns they will be preparing. Intuit was happy to help figure out the best value for my situation.

Pros: This product is very easy to maneuver and move around and within. I came from a background using a different tax software, but was recommended by a colleague to purchase ProSeries for the cost benefit. I was impressed that the software was able to handle the workload over this recent tax season (400+ tax returns) I was also impressed that it was very easy to work with Customer Support on an issue and also to add different Tax Return types within your software program. It was very simple to add on 990 returns for Non-Profit Organizations when I had initially only purchased unlimited 1040 returns.

Cons: One of the things I did not care for with the ProSeries software was the lack of "background" inputting for the return information. The software is more "Form" based and does not provide an in depth separate place/area for inputting the return information. It was not hard to get used to this, but I guess comparing ProSeries to other software, I sort of missed the additional background level where the information is input first.

After 13 years, we are stepping away.

Comments: We grew our business on the back of this product. We went from 100s of clients in the late 90s to over 5,000 this year. We have seen the quality and the stability of the product real go down over the last 4 years. For those of you familiar with the product, we've seen crashes become more frequent, we've seen HomeBase issues become worse every year. A few years ago, when there were problems, I could depend on their support organization to help us get through it. They were always thoughtful about looking into the issue. That is no longer the position. I've been forced to "Prove" any issue was theirs. They've wanted me to remove all other software that wasn't theirs. Overall, it felt more like finding ways to deflect blame than to help. My team had the most difficult tax season this year in all my decades of running this business. The product crashes 3-5 times a day per person on average across a team of 15 people. I'm left this summer with the daunting task of switching to another provider, but the lost productivity this year was more expensive than the switch will be.

Pros: Simple to use. Easy to onboard staff We were able to quickly scale the office around the product. Intuitive UI

Cons: Stability has become the primary issue Lack of willingness of support to truly investigate any problem

Pros: Features: The Where do I enter button is great. Easy to find almost anything this way

Usability: For the intermediate to advanced user - not the lay person that doesn't understand taxes.

Cust Service: For 2017 they have taken AWAY and invaluable resource: Online chat support. We have had to spend hours on the phone waiting for support instead of simply doing the chat which is WAY better.

Cons: The automatic log out is a pain. If you have over 30 minutes of inactivity you are logged out and this is a security feature - I get that - but it sure is a pain during tax season when you need it at your finger tips.

Also, even though they FINALLY updated the 2017 software with the "Transfer" files to be spaced out, you still CANNOT simply type in the person's last name to find the prior year file. You can ONLY type the first letter of the last name. This is lame and there is absolutely no excuse for this in 2018.

Pros: The thing I like most about this software is the fact I can easily over ride any specific tax issue, and reporting issues that need to be fixed is not that difficult at all, and Intuit responds quickly to fix those issues.

Cons: The thing I like least about this software is the price - it is definitely not cheap, but the increase of productivity is definitely worth the price.

Overall: The benefits from this software are many. The first one that springs to my mind that is unique in the tax field, is the jump back ability. If you know where something is supposed to flow to the tax return, you can right click on that field and have it take you to where you input that information in. On more complex issues it might only take you to the general area to fill in.

Comments: I started using Pro Series 30 years ago. Before it became part of the Intuit family of products. Over the years I have worked on many software packages. Having recently had the opportunity to use Pro Systems fx (a very high end product), for the vast majority of the returns the average practitioner would prepare, I would take Pro Series hands down.

Pros: Designed with the preparer in mind, intuitive navigation, clean linking with schedules and support screens, efficient e-filing, very good state return packages, variety of purchase package options, links with QuickBooks,

Cons: There are not a lot of cons in regard to the software. Heavy first year discounting leads to significant price increases in subsequent years.

Pros: This was a great product to prepare corporate taxes. It was user friendly, and quite easy to use. I would recommend for a small business that prepares mainly corporate returns.

Cons: I did not think the customer service was very good. Many times I would call with a simple question and be on hold for them for 30 minutes or more. Very frustrating!

Overall: Good for preparing corporate returns.

Pros: Easy to use. Support is very helpful, tho I rarely need it. Allows me to do simple to complex individual and business returns. I can choose the features I want and customize my package to my business. Add on Apps like Intuit Link allow my clients to securely send their documents 24/7 to my secure portal.

Cons: Cost, it seems to go up every year. I wish it was affordable to have the software on more then one computer in my office. But the costs to add another user are to high.

Overall: Allows me to complete individual and business tax returns for my clients.

Comments: for a larger business with a decent number of corporate returns this is a great program. Small businesses with a limited number of corporate returns not so good

Pros: Simple, straightforward and easy to use. The interview process is great and feels like you wouldn't miss any possible deductions.

Cons: Expensive to purchase and unable to purchase 1040 returns and a pay-per return for business tax returns such as 1120S & 1120 tax returns. Intuit requires you to purchase a package which is not cost-efficient for those with few corporate returns.

I've used tax software since its inception and wouldn't prepare tax without it!

Pros: Ease of use and online help. The software is very easy to understand and it workflow, walking the user through income and deductions. Each area has help in the application, as well as internet based. Customer service is also available via telephone. Forms can be viewed prior to proceeding and worksheets are available to better understand how calculations are determined. Best of all, there are several versions from beginner to business to very complex. It is a full service application and load previous year numbers into the current year. This is very valuable.

Cons: There are no true cons. The software is inexpensive, can download to your computer, and intuitive to use. This software has improved over the years.

Overall: recordkeeping, organization, tracking deductions between years, and estimating taxes due.

Pros: All-In-One software with extensive set of add-ins. Very accurate database of information and always up to date. Very easy to use and administer.

Cons: Network installation and use can be buggy at times but locating a fix online is generally pretty easy.

Comments: An overall solid choice if you are looking for a step up from Drake or a more reasonably priced alternative to Lacerte or ATX. I demoed ATX and it is lacking. I like Drake but feel more confident with Proseries in terms of accuracy.

Pros: Accurate, fairly easy to learn, good customer support. Even the basic module come with a solid help and research module. The pro module is available for business return but can also be used for more complicated 1040 returns.

Cons: Intuit needs to find a way to keep pricing under control. For now, there are deep discounts on most configurations. Make sure to check state returns carefully.

Pros: I thought this product was easy to use. I like the client interview form which is helpful as a guide for not missing any income or deduction items for your clients. It allows you to import files from Turbo Tax which can be handy if a client has prepared their return themselves the prior year. The error check feature is helpful as well. I am a small firm that only does a limited # of personal tax returns and I do not always have another accountant to discuss tax questions with or bounce ideas off of so, the error check does assist in catching any potential problems on a return.

Cons: I don't like the I have to have internet access when I try to access the software or it will not let me in. This was a new feature in the 2016 software which I did not care for.

Comments: I've used Lacerte (which is even more costly) and I've used the base-level personal use TurboTax software. All in all the ProSeries input is nice - but the extra functionality that is common in other software doesn't exist for ProSeries.

Pros: The form based input is nice for people who are accustomed to reviewing returns by looking at the final product.

Cons: The cost continues to increase with a lack of improvement for the product that is presented each year.

Comments: A step above Drake. Lacerte is too expensive. There isn't a perfect tax software but this is a worthy contender especially for the smaller or solo firm.

Pros: Mostly intuitive with a solid error check. Handles multiple states well. Overall, still a good value.

Cons: Some states lacking 1041 returns. Need to check states very closely (as we should anyway). Customer support is dwindling as prices increase.

Comments: Terrible experience. Even though I have been using Pro Series for many many years, I will make a change next year and will no longer recommend this program.

Pros: Ease of use and the intuitive nature of the program.

Cons: Customer Service is non-existent. Hours have been cut down and I have experienced 1 hour plus wait times, which is unacceptable for the clientele they are supposed to be serviced during the busiest time of year. I have not yet gotten through to customer service once. Two years ago I had to get a new printer because the program no longer functioned with my HPLJ 4100. This year printing anything from Pro Series is agonizingly slow. When I go online to check out the issue(because I cannot get through to CS) I cannot figure out what I need to do, nor should I during tax season.

Comments: Not having much experience with any other software I can't compare only judge based on what I've learned from using Inuit.

Pros: Fairly easy to navigate the basics, even for a rookie. Answers are always found for questions or issues I could be having, even though the search can sometimes be extensive. Invoicing within the program is the best option and very handy big time save. Overall the value is a good deal and I don't regret my purchase.

Cons: Customer service takes a very long time to go through and actually answer questions I have. Monthly fee is a little bit on the high side. I've found it easier to search the web than to call CS for most questions or issues. Had an issue with IRS and state agency connections.

Recommendations to other buyers: I recommend taking time learning the program don't just jump right in. There is so much time I could have saved by reading up on things before trying to just figure it out. Overall it's pretty easy to use probably easier than most I would imagine but still, knowledge is huge in saving time. Work smarter not harder.

Pros: This software is very informative and functional. It's a professional program for professional tax preparers. I like it because you don't have to guess where to plug in your numbers, the program has prompts to help you. It's easy to navigate and easy to find the forms that you need.

Cons: I must admit that it takes a few practice rounds to be able to locate all the forms you need quickly. The online help is always there but it's you still have to have some general tax prep knowledge to use this software.

Overall: I have been working with this program for a few years preparing tax returns.

Pros: I use to use HR Block which would never allow me to claim the NJ property tax credit for renting.

which then defeated the purpose of using and paying for HR Block software. Once I switched to

Intuit Pro Tax I could use their software to claim the maximum amount of refund I earned without having to manually submit a paper version amended return

Cons: Some of my information does not transfer from the previous year, so unfortunately I have to enter it This is more than likely not a software issue, rather an issue with coding. I really cannot find any other cons for this software.

Pros: The simplicity of Intuit's interface is one of the reasons why I chose Intuit. It provided simple and easy features that anyone can learn. The document scanning allows a paperless documentation which is a great plus to any software, allows efficient e-filing. It is a very useful software.

Cons: The worksheets are very limited, especially during tax season. Also, tech support responds slowly to any reported problems, but once they respond, they really get into the problem and will try to figure out the problem.

Comments: looking for a better, most efficient, and cost effect product.

Pros: year-to-year data transfer works good and it is easy to add new clients and follow the forms input screen.

Cons: runs like a snail in Windows 10, updates have to be manually downloaded unless it is an update to an installed product, customer support to download software updates sends you to the community where little guidance is found to be useful, virtually no customer support provided by Intuit. You will waste a lot of time trying to download updates they should send to you automatically.

Comments: Really does help to try and maximize your return. Checks all of your numbers to make sure that they make sense and don't seem wrong.

Pros: The program has a lot of checkpoint where you need to stop and run a scan to make sure that everything looks good and further minimize your chances of getting audited by something that doesn't look right or might have been entered incorrectly.

Cons: Although this is done for safety measure there is a lot of verification that needs to happen before you can login to your account such as sending codes to phones or emails. I appreciate the safety precaution but don't feel that I need to do it every single time I login especially once it recognizes my computer or device.

Comments: We set up a pay per return account, really we wanted something different but were convinced that the deferred payment plan was our best option, now the sales rep left out very important details and took forever to get us set up (2 Weeks)! payment was not due until march the 2 but we received calls stating that a payment was due Feb. 1 shortly after we received several emails stating that our account was on hold, we tried calling customer support and just got the run around, we were told that we would be called back and still have not been called this is the most unprofessional company to go with and I will not be supporting them next year.

Cons: Horrible customer service and sales reps did not fully explain the product fees associated with our software account.

Comments: I have been using Turbo Tax and Professional Pro series products for years. This year, I found a bug in a system and called to ask if it can be fixed since I prepare over 1000 of taxes and if it is fixed, will make my life easier. First, for 45 minutes, I talked to technical support who couldn't help me. Then I was transferred to a manager. I explained the issue and asked for the small problem in the system to be fixed. He said that it can't be fixed and if I do not like using Pro series, I can find another software and use it. Goodbye. He literally talked to me for one minute. I have been using Pro series for 10 years, filed over 20,000 tax returns and got hanged up in a minute by manager!!

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Poor customer service, program with bugs that "cannot" or actually do not want to be fixed by tech support

Recommendations to other buyers: Try to find a software where if you have a problem you can actually call somebody who will help you and do not just tell you to go away

Comments: I used Proseries from 2009 through 2017.

Pros: Proseries is easy to use and I especially like the forms based input method it utilizes. There are different subscription levels so you can tailor it to your needs and budget. I found the customer service to be very good and the support staff is knowledgeable.

Cons: It is desktop based, so you have to run updates. There is the possibility of data loss if you don't back it up somewhere off the local computer.

Pros: This product really took care of me when I had to file my taxes during the normal tax season. It really is like someone double checking your work to make sure you are not only doing things correctly but also taking full advantage of any funds that you are entitled too! I was super intimidated by doing taxes and now its a breeze!

Cons: I was sort of taken aback by the price of the product as I didn't think it was worth what they charge for it! Granted, you can certainly use this software as a tool to get back more from your refund, which would offset the cost. But the return on investment is slow making this a LONG term investment.

Recommendations to other buyers: Be sure to check out other versions of this software to make sure that it is the right fit for you. But if it is, look forward to the lowered amount of stress!

Pros: I've used a number of Intuit products and the good thing about it is the fact that they do a good job integrating their various software. This reduces the need to constantly transfer data, which saves time!

Cons: The biggest issue is the pricing. Intuit has a wide ranging spectrum of software. It would be MUCH better if things weren't so fragmented. For example if I'm using QuickBooks for payroll and and using Intuit Pro Series, I find myself paying for two different softwares. Good features but not so economical.

Comments: We've used some of Intuit's other online tax software for our business previously, prior to expanding somewhat last year. We found their interface very simple and straightforward to use. We took up the trial version of Intuit ProSeries after a recommendation, to see how we can expand and make our tax work much more efficient with our increased workload this year.

Pros: Familiarity of the interface and easy to use tools and integration with our existing quickbooks setup made the entire process far more pleasurable and stress free. Also, the most useful aspect so far (out of many!) is the client missing data tool. We've had issues in the past so it was a welcome addition to our workset.

Cons: So far, none as we have used Intuit before, and as for price, we are currently only starting with the trial version so that has not been an issue.

Comments: Hello, I am Mika and am a service associate in New York city. I found this software valuable and easy to use. No regrets to spend money on ProSeries. I had some issues once but when got help from my expert seniors, I was quite sure for accurate tax returns and got the better idea to use this software. I've found ProSeries even better than turbo-tax.

Pros: Easy and user-friendly interface. Its quiet interesting to learn a number of things with this commerce platform.

Cons: Not much, but before any help, I was confused with its functionality. But now, Its Fine to use.

Recommendations to other buyers: Good Software, I would always recommend proseries to my business friends.

Comments: Overall I think the software is well worth the price! The price is very reasonable compared to other tax software.

Pros: I think the software is very user friendly and simple to change from one software to another. The customer service has been great!! They will sit on the phone with you until the problem is fixed!!

Cons: I would prefer to be able to see the "input" of the information better, ie. Lacerte format. I came from a Lacerte background where the input background was very in depth.

Cons: Might not be application's fault but would've liked to be able to see prior years returns. Tried accessing it but you have to pay.

Pros: The software is easy to use for the most part. It is problem free installation and user ability. But.

Cons: Proseries has a flaw, it does not support e-filing tax preparers with foreign addresses, of which I have many. Annoying.

Not as effective as other software for the same purpose.
