I've found Moodle to be an excellent learning management system. Other LMS platforms do have some extra features that are nice, but they rarely tip the scale on cost-benefit ratio; Moodle is good and free. Pros I like that it's open source, which means I can get it for FREE if I have my own hosting solution. And it's not a cheap, minimal product either - it's a quality learning management system that supports a variety of assignment types with easy grading. It allows a customizable amount of teacher-student interaction; set up a course and let it run without touching it again, or have a hands-on teacher communicating daily. Sufficient support documentation is available that I never needed to contact any kind of customer support. It seamlessly supported my course authored on Rise 360. Cons It took some time to figure out how to set it up on a free hosting platform as an administrator; I had issues with needing more server access than I had for free. (I did find a workaround that's sufficient for the low-usage environment I'm currently supporting.) Many education institutions use Moodle, making it easy to share material. It is a great tool to learn and develop courses with. While it can be expensive to have hosted and overwhelming when you first start out there are services to help you learn and I thoroughly recommend everyone use these online learning / orientation courses and do them as refreshers. Pros Moodle is a very comprehensive platform for education. You can enable interactive content, making branching scenario activities, award grades, or simply determine competency. The range of resources and activities you can upload or create is extensive. You can host Moodle on your own server or you can pay for a hosting service. Moodle is free to set up if you are managing your own system. Moodle has a community forum to help you with a lot of challenges that many face. Cons If you have never used Moodle before it can be overwhelming. There is so many features that you can struggle with where to start but, there are some good online courses in the Moodle Academy that can help. To use a hosting service is not cheap but these services usually come with support so they are helpful. It provides all the necessary features for a Computer Science student, but it desperately needs a modern visual update, and also , the files submit system , should be updated. Pros As a computer science student, I really value the learning platform because it serves as an all-in-one hub where I can access all my course materials, submit some of my assigments. It has a organized interface, supporting multiple file formats and activities. Cons The platform feels quite outdated, often requires too many clicks to locate specific documents. The mobile experience is also somewhat limited compared to the desktop version, with inconsistent notifications. Also, when I try to add a file and submit it, a lot of time it takes to many clicks to confirm it , I have already missed some deadlines because I forgot 1 of 5 confirms. It is very easy to use and has many features for smooth conduction of tests and upload of grades. It is free and open source to use. Cons One thing I liked least about Moodle was that the interface can sometimes feel outdated and less intuitive compared to newer learning platforms. There were occasional bugs such as pages loading slowly, quizzes freezing temporarily, or assignment uploads failing on unstable connections. Notifications and navigation could also be improved because important updates are sometimes easy to miss. Pros I liked that Moodle offers a wide variety of pre-set course page designs and makes it easy to have a cohesive design and aesthetic that helps with organization and clarity. Pros A super easy LMS platform to use for online learning with a couple of user-friendly tools that will help make creating lessons, grading, assigning tasks and setting cohorts a simple journey. Cons Though it offers many ways and means to stage and pace lessons, Moodle is still away from Canvas Instructure. Students cannot trace their progress, nor can they bookmark their last task. It does what I need it to, but the core of it seems old and incapable of incorporating newer tools. That said, part of my more recent experience may be connected to the control by the organization. The ease of use, particularly on the mobile app, makes it a great tool for students. However, the scrolling issue does affect the usability a bit. Overall, I would recommend Moodle to others, as it enhances the learning experience significantly. Pros I really like Moodle’s website and mobile app. The interface is very user-friendly, making it easy to navigate through courses and resources. The mobile app is especially convenient for accessing coursework on the go, which I’ve found very helpful for my studies. Cons One downside I’ve experienced is that when I scroll down in a course and open a section, returning to the main page always takes me back to the top instead of where I was. This can be frustrating when trying to find specific content quickly.
