### "Oodles of Moodles!"

May 5, 2022

5.0

Pros

The Moodle LMS was among the first to offer modular add-ons and incorporation of existing curricula. The modular design is the best feature, in my opinion, as it allows "tweaking" of capabilities.

Cons

Occasionally the linked pages create confusion and on rare occasions, the password resets fail to deliver e-mails.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Moodle

Price and control over modular design.

### "Moodle"

November 21, 2022

4.0

Positive. Moodle has been the first LMS I have ever studied/worked with. It has certainly helped me on my way.

Pros

It is easy to learn how Moodle works and it is easy to use. All of the basic features that you need are there. I have frequently heard of Moodle being "the one to start with" when choosing LMS for the first time for learning management in a company - and I can agree with it.

Cons

Looks oldschool. I know that Moodle can be visually customized to a certain degree, but the interface still looks a little old-fashioned in comparison to what other brands are offering.

### "J.L. Moodle Review"

September 17, 2022

4.0

Moodle is an educational-based software where students can view and interact with work put in place by teachers or lecturers who depend on strictly online learning or a combination of both physical and online learning. With the ability to achieve degrees and other academic achievements completely online, Moodle is one of the best platforms to serve the purpose of learning for all.

Pros

The ability to track my progress for every individual course and the function of editing posts for assignments within 30 minutes of posting.

Cons

Sometimes, Moodle doesn't save my draft of posts I'm creating when I switch to another tab or application no matter the time taken to switch. So I have no choice but to recreate my post.

### "Moodle Interface and File Management"

March 25, 2023

4.0

Pros

What I liked most about Moodle was the flexibility and customization it offered. I could create courses and activities that suited my needs and preferences, and also manage them easily. Moodle also had a lot of features that were impactful for me, such as the quiz module, the gradebook, the forums, and the analytics. The product was easy to use and intuitive, and I did not have any major issues with integration with my existing business processes. Moodle helped me deliver quality online learning to my students and colleagues.

Cons

What I liked least about Moodle was the lack of customization options for the courses and the user interface. I felt that some features were missing or could be improved, such as the ability to create quizzes with different question types, to embed multimedia content in the lessons, and to track the progress and performance of the learners. I also found some aspects of the product difficult to use, such as the navigation menu, the gradebook, and the feedback system. Integration with my existing business processes was not too difficult, but it required some manual work and adjustments to make it compatible with Moodle.

### "MOODLE’s plataform"

December 5, 2022

4.0

Pros

### "Moodle is great for educational institutions and organizations"

August 4, 2022

4.0

Moodle allows our organization to manage workflow and content, as well as administrative documents and user management. Moodle is also our internal directory and all backend information on our Active Directory gets synched to Moodle daily so staff can find and connect with each other internally.

Pros

Moodle is free and open source so customizing it to whatever needs is always an option and it allows for great work to be done.

Cons

Moodle does have some complications and things that are confusing. However, Moodle has a great community platform and blogs to help with navigating around administrative tools and backend files.

### "Moodle has been one of the best tools I have ever implemented in my high school courses!"

July 30, 2018

5.0

I think I stated most if not all the benefits in the "pro" section. It's a great time saver once courses are set up. I can see the stats on my students' involvement with the various parts of it. I can cut down paper work by having files submitted electronically. I can use rubrics of my own design to quickly grade programming assignments I can mark up PDF submissions on the screen to give feedback. I can moderate discussions and teach students how to speak in a forum setting. I can provide more opportunities for students to think and produce more creatively. I can enjoy creating my own materials!

Pros

Moodle allows me to provided a blended learning environment for my students. I use it for AP Statistics, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, and Integrated Math 1. I can post assignment schedules, additional readings, links to off-site materials, etc. just as I did in my web pages in the past. However, it also allows me to assign "lessons" that my students do interactively online, discussion boards where they have to write their thoughts coherently, and assignments where students upload files for me to review and grade. It has become an important communication tool for me to use with both students and parents outside school hours. No student can say they forgot their book at school or don't remember the assignment because texts and assignments are online in Moodle. Parents can see what their students are doing in my class academically and not just the grades they receive. Moodle has become more important to my teaching than the textbook. All resources can be found in one place and students can interact with the materials, each other, and me in class and outside class. We have even implemented a computer lab and device reservation system for teachers in Moodle which has saved our librarians a ton of hours of work each week.

Cons

Moodle is not intuitive to the novice. It took some time for me to learn how to use its many features and implement them well. I have been doing this for at least 8 years, but I am still learning more about the system and its capabilities. As the server administrator, doing upgrades has always been problematic. I don't think an upgrade has ever gone smoothly. The reason I stick with it is because I haven't found a LMS that can offer me as much as Moodle. Plus, it's free and we can run it in-house.

### "Higher Ed Moodle Review"

December 21, 2022

5.0

Overall, Moodle is the primary LMS at our institution. It helps instructors manage course content while providing a seamless enterprise way for students to access their courses and learn.

Pros

I like the ease of integrating Moodle and course content for distance education or hybrid courses at our institution. The student portal and course hub include the ability to incorporate various widgets to better communicate course expectations with students.

Cons

I feel as though the ability to include more math-based equations and solutions for tests/assessments could be improved.

### "Moodle through the eyes of a student and a student assistant"

August 16, 2022

4.0

Overall, Moodle is a good product for university students as it brings multiple alternatives in different ways of learning either in-person or online and it provides a space where students can access their assignments and grades all in one place for all the classes.

Pros

I like the deadline reminders in my email because we often are busy with our days that assignments might pass through our minds, but receiving a notification really helps. Also, it allows different types of assignments like discussion forums which bring new class activities and participation, especially during COVID times.

Cons

Sometimes the "Turn it in" option can get glitchy or a lot of time to load the assignment.

### "Moodle LMS - Administrator and Trainer Point of View"

February 26, 2015

4.0

Pros

There are lots and lots of resources for help. Almost every page on the Moodle site has a link at the bottom of it taking you to the specific documentation of what you are working with. Moodle has a huge community of worldwide users that are extremely responsive to user forums, so help is literally a couple of clicks away. Moodle is easy to figure out, even if you have never used and LMS. The site I currently administrate is at http://classes.ala.org. As you land on the homepage, you will see the list of our different divisions who offer online courses. We do this using the categories feature, allowing each of our separate divisions to be represented on the single ALA site. What you might also notice is that the login for the site is a convenient eyebrow link. If you click it, there are a variety of options for setting up your own guest credentials in addition to signing in with your official credentials granted by one of the administrators. Most user issues are simple to troubleshoot. Moodle's no nonsense layout and intuitive interaction makes it pretty straightforward to figure out user issues. Error messages tell you specifically what a problem is in plain English (or whatever language you want to set up). Most user problems are rights related in the system. Moodle allows you to restore previous courses into new courses. The backup and restore feature pretty much does everything for you. Take out the user data from a backup and you can restore the previous version of a course into a brand new course with very little downtime.

Cons

Version 1.9 requires an older version of Java running in order to use the wysiwyg html editor (something that comes in handy for the introduction to the course and each section/Topic for the course) -- a version of Java is required, that if you are on Windows 7, has security issues that your Network Admin is probably blocking. The workaround not having an html editor is to open your web content editor (we have Drupal and Dreamweaver) and then paste the code into the setting fields. It is not difficult to do, just inconvenient. I am sure the current version 2.6 has this capability and more that we are waiting to upgrade to. You have to dig a bit to get to the settings and permissions for specific activities. For example, a common user issue is with Student access to a forum. It is not obvious that some forums are specifically for teacher announcements (meaning that students aren't able to respond, just read the announcements). By the time I get issue, the course creator has a dozen or so forums setup with participants already subscribed, which means that it is easier for me to go into each forum and override the native rights. When you have scores of courses running each containing a dozen or more forums that each need to have permissions touched, it is a lot of work from the admin point of view. The lighter side is that with the proper training, or sandbox playing, creators can discover this nuance before its' too late. The native chat activity doesn't really work in version 1.9. We use FlashChat by Host123 when our course leaders need a course chat room. In version 1.9, there is not a lot of wiggle room in changing the look and feel of the courses. You can add, subtract and move blocks around, you can assign a theme, but it is not the most modern look and feel.

Still very happy with Moodle and will continue to use it to power our continuing education offerings.

### "Moodle - A Perfect Solution for High Institutions of Learning"

September 29, 2022

5.0

It has been a perfect experience, I do not think there's any other system that can out-compete Moodle in service delivery.

Pros

The ability for students to study online, complete assignments and be able to attempt and submit their courses safely online reduces on the workload that the Administrators have to do just that. It is a very good software that can monitor(track) a student's progress with Academia.

Cons

The fact that it requires an institution to pay for internet (if Moodle is Self-Hosted) services becomes expensive in the long run since some courses have videos that students may need to access from different locations. A solution to this would be to access Moodle from a hosting provider.

### "Moodle - The perfect platform for students?"

November 7, 2022

4.0

I use Moodle many times in a week, because it’s a part of how teaching in our school works. Students sometimes have to use Moodle to hand over homework or assignments. It’s more comfortable than the old fashioned way of giving it directly to the teacher. But in the age of digitalisation learning platforms like Moodle are very useful.

Pros

Moodle allows students to have a digital school in their pockets. With a press of a button they can send assignments, enter a video chat room, chat with students or teachers, see the latest news about subjects, school or from a teacher, all from a tablet, laptop or a smartphone. What I like about Moodle is that it is open-source, making it possible for everyone to create new things in Moodle. It’s also completely free, which is great for schools and students. Other learning platforms either are expensive for the school or harm one’s personal information. I heard from my school that Moodle is safe when it comes to privacy. My school uses Moodle, because other platforms share personal data.

Cons

I think that Moodle‘s graphical interface is a bit outdated. A new modern and minimales design would attract more customers. Moodle is also a bit restricted. When it comes to implementation of other materials outside the Moodle bubble, the options one has are limited to assignments, databases and maybe audio or video. It would be amazing, if one could directly implement live streams from YouTube or Twitch for example or a video call from Skype or Discord directly from Moodle. For me it took a while to get used to Moodle, so it’s not so easy to use. I think it’s more because of the outdated graphical interface.

### "Experience the Power of Moodle: A Review of the Popular LMS"

December 20, 2022

4.0

Moodle is a popular learning management system (LMS) that is used by educators and learners in a variety of settings. It is highly customizable and flexible, and includes a range of tools for organizing and delivering course materials, creating and grading assignments and assessments, and tracking student progress. Moodle is also known for its collaboration features, including forums and wikis, which can be useful for building a sense of community among students and instructors. In addition, Moodle includes tools for tracking progress, such as grades and completion status, which can be useful for students to stay motivated and track their own learning, and for educators to monitor student progress and identify areas where students may need additional support.Overall, Moodle is a comprehensive and user-friendly LMS that is widely used in a range of educational settings. It is highly customizable and flexible, and includes a range of tools for delivering and managing online courses, as well as for supporting collaboration and progress tracking. These features make Moodle a valuable resource for educators and learners seeking to support online learning and achieve educational goals.

Pros

Here are some of the pros of Moodle:1.Customizability: Moodle is highly customizable, which means that it can be tailored to meet the specific needs of different institutions and departments. This can be a valuable feature for educators who want to create a unique and personalized learning experience for their students.2.Flexibility: Moodle can be used to support a wide range of learning activities, including traditional coursework, online quizzes, collaborative projects, and self-paced learning. This makes it a versatile tool for educators to use in different contexts.3.Collaboration: Moodle includes a number of built-in tools that support collaboration and communication between students and instructors, such as forums and wikis. These can be useful for collaborative assessments, where students work together to complete a project or presentation.4.Tracking progress: Moodle includes tools for tracking progress, such as grades and completion status. This can help students to stay motivated and track their own learning, and can also be useful for educators to monitor student progress and identify areas where students may need additional support.5.Large and active user community: Moodle has a large and active user community, which can be a valuable resource for educators and administrators seeking support and guidance in using the platform.6.Moodle is an open-source learning management system (LMS), that it is freely available for anyone to download and use.

Cons

Here are some potential cons of Moodle:Complexity: Some users may find Moodle to be a complex platform, with a large number of features and options that can be overwhelming or confusing. This may be particularly true for educators who are new to using an LMS, or for those who are looking for a more simple and straightforward platform. Customization requires technical expertise: While the customizability of Moodle can be a positive feature, it may also be a drawback for organizations or institutions that do not have the technical expertise or resources to fully customize the platform. Customizing Moodle may require programming skills or the use of third-party plugins, which can be time-consuming and require ongoing maintenance. Limited integrations: Moodle may not have as many integrations with other platforms and tools as some other LMSs, which can limit the capabilities and functionality of the platform. Lack of support for mobile devices: Some users have reported that Moodle is not as well-suited for use on mobile devices as some other LMSs, which can be a drawback for students and educators who rely on mobile devices for learning.

### "LMS open source ricco ma complesso"

January 21, 2023

3.0

### "As a student..."

October 19, 2023

5.0

I think it's something teachers love for practicality and time, but honestly I miss paper and pens to be in touch with the real world.

Pros

I use moodle since covid, the favorite platform of the universities, at the beginning I found it complicated to use and manage, so it took me time to adapt to the system. Having to remember to log in to put attendance or delivery times stressed me a lot, but I got over it with time and accepted my destiny.

Cons

I don't like that it only sends me notifications when it wants to and not what you ask it to ask for. I find it complicated to find my final grades, I am never clear about my score. On the other hand I hate that I don't have a lot of tolerance time to enter and that in a short time I leave the session.

### "Moodle - A Long-term Partner of Our Institute in Providing Online Education to Students "

September 18, 2021

4.0

given the cost of its implementation across the platform, on remote sites too, we can live with the few cons. Our institute is likely to continue use Moodle in the future too.

Pros

Our institute has been using Moodle since a very long time for our distance learning components of educational programs. Now Covid has made these kind of softwares integral for schools. But since the faculty and the students were already familiar with Moodle, the transition has been smooth for us. Students, faculty members, instructors, tutors can collaborate through the program very easily. It is easy to mark the students’ attendance, engage them in discussion and collaborative tasks, assign them work, grade them, test their learning and progress via quizzes, and share the progress. Most importantly, students seem to enjoy getting taught through this platform.

Cons

There have been some downsides to Moodle: Co-authoring hasn’t been very easy. The Dashboard can be a quagmire to find your way around if you are new, as there are hidden features, so it means a lost time. We have to use other plug-ins for video conferences which can be a hassle.

### "Moodle features review"

April 18, 2022

4.0

Moodle is a good facility to use for the online course learning platform and it requires it to be less congested with information, but rather with pop-ups information direction led tabs. Such features will make the platform easier to use.

Pros

It's free and open source. Versatile community with a lot of options to choose from. Easily accessible to use. Its features are easy to familiarise yourself with. It contains a lot of information on it. Another benefit of using Moodle is that it allows a wide range of content formats to be uploaded and made available to students and tutors. Moodle provides for communication between the lecturers and learners, as well as student-to-student contact on an online platform through social interactive mobile devices.

Cons

The first key concern is that Moodle is not yet completely designed to handle large projects. While it may be appropriate for small to medium-sized colleges and universities, the approach may not be appropriate for larger institutions or for conducting all classes in a city. The system becomes slower as more students visit the Moodle platform at once, and will not cope with the high demand of online access especially in the direction the world of technology is leading to.

### "Flexible for designers, teachers and students"

January 10, 2019

5.0

Pros

As an online learning designer, Moodle is a fantastic tool because it integrates multiple options for learning and collaboration between both on and off campus students. It is incredibly flexible with a plethora of both simple and advanced features which can be integrated at a teacher’s preference, and the entire teaching experience can be run through the system. It’s agile enough to integrate with multiple external software systems so is less restrictive than some LMS systems. The interface can be configured to suit individual institutions or teaching and allows a teacher to monitor all activity. As a course designer, Moodle Analytics are extremely valuable because I can see exactly what parts of the course are being accessed, how often, and if they are being completed. This allows me to know if individual components of the course are beneficial to learning or if it needs changing or replacing, without the risk of violating student or institution privacy. When working for an institution that is a Moodle partner, I like the opportunity to help shape Moodle’s future by offering submissions direct to the designers.

Cons

Whenever updates for Moodle are released (six monthly) there are always some problems with existing content, especially with non-standard features that have been designed exclusively for a course or institution. Sometimes they are not immediately evident and can cause issues during the teaching period. Moodle is a very large, powerful system, so it can take considerable time to understand it well enough to be confident designing and teaching courses. Also, if support staff are not on hand it can be difficult to resolve issues or find ways to integrate special requests from teachers.
