I truly love this EMR , I recommend it to colleagues frequently and despite its features I dislike the most , I still love it

Pros

Ease of use , intuitive steps, complete risk assessments in progress notes , access 24/7 from anywhere due to cloud storage.frequent updates keep us cutting edge Love it

Cons

many times ( most recently ) frequent weekly updates that say the use will not be affected but in fact it does, the system becomes very slow and consumes very valuable time another con as the company has grown , been there since 2014, personalized help is hard to find

Reason for choosing Valant EHR Suite

liked the features and the fact it was designed by a psychiatrist for for psychiatrists , we house a few therapist and they too have a good platform to use

### "Tried Another EMR - Realized Valant is BEST in CLASS"

May 22, 2023

5.0

Great support. Good pricing.

Pros

Facilitates session documentation in a way that other systems try to do but do not for practicing Psychiatrist.

Cons

There were a couple outages that I was frustrated with. So I tried another system. Valant has since solved all the outage issues and improved patient portal functionality. When I tried and looked at other systems, I realized how robust and comprehensive Valant is for my Psychiatry practice needs.

### "Good, but with a few stupid annoying issues"

October 19, 2017

4.0

Tech support people are nice, but when there is a system-wide issue, they do not answer the phones. They have been unable to solve the repeated crashing of Silverlight and the issue with not accepting diagnoses when entered in mobile notes.

Pros

I like that it is just for psychiatry and I like mobile notes. I like having integrated prescribing, billing, and credit card processing, electronic EOB's from payers. I like that there is an app for my iPad and iPhone so I can take a quick look at notes and write prescriptions. I like the reminders that the system gives, the ease of scheduling appointments and entering payments. With an electronic EOB, you just hit a button and all the payments and adjustments are recorded automatically. Beware that the integrated insurance clearing house adds more to the monthly fee you pay.

Cons

I have been using this for 10 months. There are recurring problems that no one can seem to solve. When I entered nonclinical patient information in the "patients" tab and hit save, Microsoft internet explorer would crash, but not every time. I made repeated calls to tech support and their solution was to change browsers to Firefox. I have done so, but still have the same issue except the message on my computer is that the Silverlight plug-in has crashed. This happens several times per day. In mobile notes, there is no functionality of the tab button (for indentation) when I am trying to write a note and this annoys me to no end. The system has crashed several times in the past 10 months, never for more than a few hours, but enough to disrupt my workflow. I had to write a few paper prescriptions when the mobile notes and e-Prescribing crashed the other day. The patient's diagnoses can be entered using mobile notes, but then, I have to open the patient chart and reenter them or else when I go to bill, it says there is no visit diagnosis. I have asked about this multiple times. Navicure, the integrated insurance clearinghouse just raised their rates.

### "Valant review"

March 20, 2024

4.0

Overall, I like the system. However, it is difficult to use when there is something faulty within the system. But, the Valant team works hard at getting the site up and running in a timely manner. THANK YOU!

Pros

Easy to maneuver through the system. I like the 'reoccurring' option. This makes scheduling easier.

Cons

There seems to be updates and breakdowns within the system often.

### "No frills, but does the job."

February 3, 2022

3.0

Overall, my experience with Valant EHR was positive. Again, I did not stay with Valant due to the less than intuitive and not very user friendly experience. I had difficulty with my iCal staying synched to my Valant account, but customer service was always prompt and helpful when I called.

Pros

I appreciated the ability to sync my calendar with my phone, and customer service was always prompt and helpful. I liked being able to set my appointment times for a certain length and color code for different needs. The client demographic information was easy to access and update, along with the pre-loaded intake forms.

Cons

The user interface feels outdated and clunky, not very intuitive like others I've used. Some of the billing and claims aspects were confusing and also not very intuitive. This software feels better suited to a large practice with a high level of medical billing as opposed to a smaller, less insurance-based practice. For the cost of the product, I believe you get a lot of medical bells and whistles that just aren't necessary for a smaller practice.

### "WARNING: Do Not Choose This EHR"

January 4, 2021

1.0

If it wasn't such a tremendous undertaking to switch EHR's, I would have already stopped using Valant. The only thing good about this EHR at this point is being able to send clinical measures to patients.

Pros

I liked the clinical measures that can be sent to patients prior to each visit.

Cons

This EHR has gone through multiple changes trying to be better and it has progressively gotten worse over the years. Most recently, we had to switch the entire platform to the IO version. The new version is like a beta test site. The most problematic area is the billing feature. We are consistently having to contact support to let them know the issues that we are finding and are repeatedly told that they know and are working on it. My office staff has wasted numerous hours on the phone with customer support. Then we end up having to go back into the old system to fix the issues that were created by the new platform. From a provider perspective, trying to document has been a nightmare in the new platform too. This software isn't 2015 certified either which has resulted in problems with one of our payers. We have encountered too many problems to list.

### "Happy with updates!"

May 20, 2022

4.0

Pros

Great for larger practices. I most like that Valant values what we (as users) have to say and they do actually make updates in accordance, unlike many platforms. Schedule and documentation are very easy to use. Great for large practices. Easy to use overall. Easy billing, but there are still bugs.

Cons

There are bugs. I also hate that we can't send out a link to e-sign documents - so new clients need to make a portal account and then we have to remember to send them the forms through the portal afterward. This is quite difficult. I wish there was a way to just send a new client the link to the intake forms like Kaero and AdvancedMD. However, they made adjustments to the portal that make it easier to use and I don't doubt that they will continue doing so. I must say that since the beginning, we were VERY unhappy with Valant. We feared that they will increase the pricing on us after the first year, making it financially infeasible to keep the platform - we still haven't signed on for next year, so I'm not sure if this will happen. I wrote a very negative review before, but I felt the need to update it because Valant is really making progress with bug fixes and new updates, which we really appreciate. Overall, I'm happy that we chose Valant now and while praying they don't screw us with the new rates, I'm looking forward to new updates as they come.

### "Psychiatry EMR"

May 16, 2023

5.0

Good

Pros

Ease of use for physician. Patient Portal features.

Cons

It would be helpful to have the mental status exam and review of systems pre-populated, and I just change the features that are abnormal/changed from last visit. Some of the new patient onboarding features are clunky and patients often have trouble logging into the Portal. It seems to work with Google Chrome but not other browsers. This is difficult for folks who are technologically challenged to overcome.

Excellent

Pros

Reliability. Consistently works. After being with Valant for over a decade, I can attest to their reliability, excellent customer service, easy to use portal and overall an excellent EHR for practicing mental health practitioners.

Cons

Would prefer a dedicated representative and not have to call a general support line.

### "A good start but still have a lot to improve on"

March 1, 2024

Mostly positive as long as you can implement without any meaningful support

Pros

Implementation of the screeners into the intake notes patient portal when it works as advertised

Cons

\- inability to prevent patients from requesting an appointment within a 24-hour or 48 hour window - functionality errors with every single update that happens - lack of timely access to customer service - terrible implementation process where things were not done as they were promised they would be and it became impossible to reach the implementation specialist

### "Difficult to navigate; difficult to get support"

March 15, 2019

2.0

Unfortunately Valant has caused more problems than it has solved.

Pros

I don't find any pros about this software. It has no features that I use that any other software wouldn't have so it doesn't set itself apart, in my experience with it.

Cons

Customer support services are typically met with "we don't offer that" or "we can't help you with that." You get different answers depending on what support person you talk to. Often times the most effective way for the system to work is not discovered until we have a problem and then we're told about how we can get it to function properly...why doesn't it function properly to begin with? Navigating through the screens is cumbersome. Getting any kind of information requires generating tedious reports which takes multiple steps to do. The appointment reminder feature is ineffective at times as it still sends an appointment reminder if you have a code in the appointment i.e. you change the code to a cancelled but it still sends an appointment reminder. This has caused confusion for patients and staff. If you make a mistake and select a progress note template you didn't want, you can't deselect it so you have to use that template even though you don't want it. It has malfunctioned several times and appointments were lost or randomly placed on the schedule on incorrect days and times with the wrong providers. This caused great confusion with over 25 appointments lost and a whole day with the doctor not knowing who was coming in.

### "Expensive for solo practices"

July 30, 2020

4.0

Customer service was slow to respond and/or didn't respond at all. It takes some getting used to. Valant was a functional ERA but it was too "much" for me being a solo provider which resulted in it being too expensive.

Pros

Billing was easy. It auto-posts ERA. They offer the ability to customize note templates. Valant offers reminders either through text or email.

Cons

For a solo practice it was expensive and offered a lot of features a solo provider doesn't need. The treatment plan tool wasn't as smooth as I thought it would be. It took a lot of time to setup and complete the training before using. The cost of Valant is separate from the cost of using a clearing house.

### "Valant"

October 17, 2023

3.0

Pros

It's easy to learn and teach to new people.

Cons

There are soo many issues. 1) the dob should be on every page along with the name. 2) There is no way to apply credit to a different date of service 3) There seem to be a lot of "bugs" or "glitches" that don't really get fixed - we call with problems and a ticket is written, but the problem is not really resolved or fixed. The people are very nice and polite that I talk to, but the people who actually do the coding that should be fixing the issues don't really take care of the issues. 4) also, when we call with issues like the program is running slowly, we are told that it's because everyone is running end of the month programs. That seems to be the go-to. It frequently runs slowly throughout the month. and no one seems to be able to fix this.

### "Essential to my practice"

February 22, 2024

4.0

I'm satisfied with it enough to select this for my use in my solo venture, and selected Valant for how I manage my practice.

Pros

I had learned Valant years ago, before their I/O product went live, with another practice. This present iteration addressed all of the quirks that the prior version had that makes using it for the basic functions I need very easy & intuitive.

Cons

There's some features and items that exceed the scope of my practice that are part of the package, with some features being utterly underutilized. I'm not particularly crazy about paying an annual subscription ON TOP OF monthly service fees.

### "Great Beginner EHR"

June 11, 2021

4.0

Valant allowed out clients to receive appointment reminders which we did not have previously. Navigating the different tabs back and forth was very convenient when multitasking.

Pros

I love the ease of scheduling along with the color coding options to make the schedule visually appealing. Valant was the first EHR that our office used and it was a great starting platform to learn and adapt to.

Cons

Unfortuatly Valant's support was not the easiest to get in contact with/hear back from when there was an issue that the online help page could not answer.

### "Very Happy Customer"

November 4, 2022

Very easy to start and use. Intuitive for Behavioral Healthcare Providers. Clearly made for Mental Health therapists and prescribers.

Pros

I like the clinical documentation with the tabs. Clinical documentation is easy to use and reduces my time to complete documentation significantly. Love the review tab at the end of the note and summarizes all the information that is needed, in case I'm audited.

Cons

Nothing. I love this Product. No Complaints.

Reason for choosing Valant EHR Suite

I knew i liked the clinical documentation tabs. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was designed for Mental Health and would allow me document complex clinical scenarios with efficiency.

### "One stop shopping"

September 19, 2019

5.0

See above.

Pros

I run a solo psychiatry practice and Valant allows me to do everything from registering and scheduling patients, to keeping records and prescribing, sending claim to insurance companies, applying payment from insurance companies and bill patients. I have always four customer support to be terrific. Some time it tae a few minute to get to the right person, but they go out of their way to answer questions. It is like any EHR--it feels difficult to use. Perhaps it is because Valant offers so many features (many I am sure I have yet to discover) it may complicate the learning process. But, with practice you get it down quickly. If you work with your initial 1:1 support, do the homework, and practice on the dummy patients, you will learn it quickly.

Cons

I wish it could interact with a kiosk where patients input information. I still have to add the demographic and insurance information and I have a scanner for insurance cards/drivers' licenses that are stored in separate software. It would even be helpful if you could scan this information directly into the patient's record.

Reason for choosing Valant EHR Suite

Valant offered everything I was looking for in an EHR. I think it is reasonably priced compared to competitors and considering all the services I get from it.

### "Valant Review"

October 19, 2023

4.0

Overall, I am satisfied with Valant. I would be completely satisfied with the implementation of the aforementioned changes.

Pros

The documentation, billig and scheduling is efficient. Receipt of ERA's and the ability to automatically apply payments is time saving. Reports are useful.

Cons

With regard to reports, start AND end date options would be helpful (productivity reports). I do not like recent changes made to the diagnosis screen (ICD vs. DSM to search for codes) this has made it more time consuming for mental health providers used to DSM codes. Also, the inability to apply a credit card payment for insurance payments similar to how you can with patient payments is frustrating.

### "Truly Can't Function Without Valant"

April 8, 2021

5.0

When I switched from one company with Valant to my current office who wasn't using Valant, I felt lost because I was now working with a system that was working against us. It didn't take long before I knew what this practice needed and it was Valant. If we ever had IT issues, Valant was one call and maybe 2 rings away.

Pros

The ease of this software allows everyone to feel like masters of their EHR system. Being able to know exactly where to find the information you are looking for within a chart and being able to trust that the system works with you to ensure accuracy has given all of our staff an increase in confidence and allows us to spend more time with our clients.

Cons

I truly wish there was something I didn't like about Valant so this could be an unbiased review, but after working with many other systems.. they can't compare to the system and support you get with Valant.

### "Great to start"

February 17, 2023

As a solo practice I am able to add providers or support staff easily at a cost of course, billing has not been the best but they use Change health which has its own problems, This is a great starter EHR which is growing and keeps upgrading so I have not changed in hopes of more upgrades like reports that are useful

Pros

I find it east to use, the finished notes look good and read well, macros work well, the new patient portal looks very professional, lots of upgrades in the past year, customer service has improved, enjoy the training videos

Cons

cost continues to go up, new features cost more if you want to use them, there are delays and bugs when new upgrades happen which can be disruptive to workflow,
