August 11, 2020 1.0 customer service is severely lacking, especially their accounting department, who will never answer the phone or call you back if you need to dispute a charge Pros easy to use, affordable, effective, incorporates billing and scheduling Cons They will continue charging you even after you cancel the service. You cannot get their accounting department on the phone. And they only respond to emails sporadically. It's ridiculous. Basically I have to dispute the charges with Visa in order to get the funds back. I originally created spreadsheets to get data to my clients. I now can enter the information in Valant and choose from several reports to get the needed information out to my clients. Cons There are few technical issues such when printing HCFA's if needed, Valant does not allow the system to fill the 6 lines on the HCFA it creates 1 line at a time causing to use several HCFA's for professional mental health billing. It is designed for MH providers which makes it easy although it seems more built for psychiatrists not counselors. Cons It is not really integrated. Pros The Valant system runs a tight ship requiring all the important piece to be in place before signing and billing. Additionally it has many checkpoints along the way. Cons Old browsers still being used that can be slow. We are still trying to locate a direct messaging address for us to connect outside medical records received. Pros There are a lot of features. and it works well with the prescribing as well as communication with patients and other providers. Cons It has a lot of features. Some could be a bit more intuitive. President Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Antiquated and obsolete" June 26, 2018 2.0 If you are an applied behavior analyst or you need to bill in a time-based way (e.g., units) the scheduling software does not "understand" this process and therefore auth tracking and claims, etc. is not as easy as it could be. Pros The EHR is relatively complete in terms of features, and the claims submission process is simple. The software provides a level of configurability in terms of user access that is unafforded by many competitors. Cons The system utilizes Microsoft Silverlight, and although the company is adamant that it has a solution that is web-based "in the pipeline," I have been a Valant user for over 2 years and the new system has not been made available to me. I can only assume it is because we are a very small practice and do not meet their bottom-line requirements for moving my data to the new system. I will be moving on once my contract is up. It could be much better Pros Encourages a more complete note which supports higher billing code. Cons Intake template missing important things like tobacco use and trauma history but way over-emphasizes drug use history. There is no blank note to add a narrative note after a phone call or incident. Missing ICD 10 codes, treatment plans do not address what Medical staff does. CPT billing codes missing. However, Valant has been effective at integrating the billing/reporting features with the every day work flow creating increased ease of use Cons It was an issue not to be able to customize mobile notes. They were able to train a group of us and were quick to respond when questions arose. Writing notes is extremely easy and overall the system is very user friendly. Pros Due to MDUSD being a school based organization who contracts with another organization, our needs are unlike many others. Valant was able to adjust the program to meet our specific needs. They continue to check in to offer adjustments as needed. The software is easy to use, and customer support is easily accessible when questions arise. Cons We would like to see an easier way to do group notes. Valant says this is coming soon. He responds so quickly, and gets things done for us as quickly as possible. And when we have concerns he makes sure to get back to us when he has it solved. Cons The software continues to have issues on a regular basis and the support team is either unreachable or does not give clear answers. I have been in contact with customer service and support about a serious documentation sever error that has extended for over a month with very little to no communication from Valant and I have had to be a constant nag to get anyone to answer me regularly. As a fairly large private psychology practice, we really like how easy it is to get information into and out of the system. The reporting capacity is especially robust. Family owner Direcr processor business with 24/7 support and actually answer the phone yes a real person! Also they do next day funding. Been in the healthcare business for a long time and tons of our software options restrict you from using the most economical source of merchant services which Valent does not, this is priceless when your locked into a 5 year contract connected to a partnership of the software company and processor. Your rates end up being forced into a Monopoly like scenario and your stuck. Anyone who does the books or can understand merchant service statements knows what I'm talking about. Pros This program unlike multiple other proprietary software forces you to use 1 merchant service company Cons Not many a little pricey but very robust so it's worth the money. The software and options seem to be getting more advanced so the issues we had before are being resolved. I primarily use this software for scheduling and changing appointments, uploading documents and taking notes on my clients. I have never had an issue with doing any of these things. Cons The software does tend to run slow at times. Getting off Silverlight I believe will help this tremendously. We were given several suggestions from Software advice and one of the suggestions was VALANT. We researched several software systems and decided on Valant. Claims and eligibility are done with the clearinghouse that does all processes in real time, which will increase cash flow for the business. Patients are able to log on to a patient portal to send messages and emails securely online to the therapist directly. Assessments can be sent to patient prior to appointment to fill out. Scheduling and reminders are sent automatically. You can do notes anywhere not only in an office setting. The training staff is so helpful and willing to help you in anyway possible to make your transition smooth. Once you start or "go live" the Valant support staff is there to help you with any questions during your transition and after. I can not say enough good things about this system and the staff at Valant. I believe this is one if not the best system we have come across. Pros Integrated system Patient Portal to send assessments prior to appointment Valant will allow you to set up the system for your particular practice. EMR templates designed specifically for behavioral health providers cost is reasonable compared to competitors real time claims and eligibility HIPPAA compliant messages sent to provider and patients Cons Clearinghouse is separate however it is top of the line and extremely efficient. My clients like that I can interact with them while documenting, and able to maintain good rapport with clients. Cons Silverlight has to go. Look forward to January '20 in getting onto chrome.
