Pros I have been using Valant for about two years, and have found it to be a very easy program to use. I like the fact that I can enter information to the medical records multiple ways--dictation, typing, scanning. The user interfact is clearly laid out and intuitive to use. I also do my billing through this website, and love the ease of having all the information in one website that I can access from any terminal. The support service has been extremely responsive on the rare occasions that I have had issues. I feel confident that the information is secure. Cons I have no major issues with this product. Since I have downloaded Office 2007, I have sometimes had problems printing records, but I think this may be a bug in the Microsoft software, not in Valant's site. Review Source MR Michael R. Even our IT support staff, prone to loose work to Valant with its IT-included services, could only encourage us to move forward into the "future of health care." And most importantly of all, even though the EMR reason may not be so obvious to them, our patients can also recognize that somethimg is changing for the better in their care. Pros After briefly trying another EMR program, our liability insurer recommended that we consider using Valant EMR. Beginning with the 1:1 online training, I knew I had found the group of professionals who could consistently provide the same quality of personalized service to me that I strive to give to all of my patients. In the end, it did not fit my needs but these are good people who worked with me every step of the way! Pros Customer support is excellent. The trainer was also fantastic. This is geared towards mental health and they do an amazing job with every mental health inventory imaginable. There are no glitches with emailing prescriptions. It's nice to have rating scales built into the intake note. Billing through this program has gone smoothly also. Cons It is very difficult to view a few notes when you're writing a note. Previous notes can only be viewed if you close out of the present one. This is very cumbersome! The prescription history is very busy and has lots of places you can click; it seems there is extraneous or duplicated information. That whole page of prescription history can be pulled up in several different ways, and it is not at all obvious why it's so busy and why there are several ways to pull up history. Also only med changes are recorded in the note, and it seems current meds should be pulled into note. Review Source MJ Maris J. While the EMR and billing module are great, the best part of purchasing Valant is the phenomenal customer service!!! The training and support are exceptional!! Pros Customer support is excellent!!! Product is easy to use and intuitive. Web-based solution is great for providers who need access from home and/or multiple locations. System is very reliable and secure. EMR makes keeping up with chart notes a breeze. Billing module is excellent to link with EMR. And the electronic claims option is invaluable for submitting and getting paid in a timely manner. Cons Wish they had an integrated credit card solution. Also, it would be helpful to have an ERA option which would allow for receiving payment information to populate the billing module electronically. Hopefully that will be coming. It's helpful for tracking and reporting revenue and patient progress. Cons There is a high level of sophistication needed to make good use of this product. Cons Unless I missed it, if I don't bill HMOs, I can not use billing link to organize fee-for-service tracking of paid and unpaid fees. Used the software for: ### "" May 29, 2012 4.5 I purchased the Valant Psychiatric EMR along with their billing package after reviewing 2 other programs and a popular "free" EMR. Valant by far was the most user friendly for a psychiatrist as there are not a lot of extraneous components that feel unnecessary. I think it worked best for me also as it was most similar to the type of EMR documenting I am used to. I think the pharmacy module for e-prescribing could be better and does not have some of the simple benefits I am used to with another system I have used (e.g. print out information sheets on a medication at will) and the importing of the scripts into the EMR note isn't as successful as one would hope. Nevertheless, I find the staff at Valant Medical Solutions to be very accessible and helpful to get you started and solve any problems along the way. It is customizable such that users dont necessarily need to fill in all the tabs. It also has a built in electronic prescribing ability that allows users to send both controlled and regular prescriptions. Customer service is amazing if you need any assistance with the program. Cannot run a simple report to track active patients with no appointment on file. They charge per page to fax and cannot be too many pages or it crashes. Expensive, yes, they do have customer service but their favorite words are, "no we can't do that. Don't you understand that there are millions of lines of programming that can't be changed". Customer support is helpful. The primary reasons I rated the product 2 stars is it is not totally cloud based and to review notes they have to be downloaded to your computer. This is a hassle and needs to be fixed. The second issue is that the treatment plan tool does not have templates to use as presented. There is only the primary template for depression. This was a bit misleading. The training and implementation were good and they were helpful. Pros Great training after purchase. Cons Not completely cloud-based treatment plan tool not developed. Working with multiple ehrs, having one specific for psychiatry is perfect. A lot of useful features. Cons We should be able to create templates for routine items. I feel that our engagement leader should have been more forth coming with information regarding the importance of having the patients entered before our go-live. Pros This EMR is exactly what psychiatrists need, not more and not less. It has shortened the time I spend documenting, made my practice of medicine safer, particularly in that the medication list for each patient is before my eyes at all times when I'm working in the chart and is remarkably easy to update. Cons Entering the medication list the first time would take less time if I did not have to wait for drop down boxes. It wasn't the cheapest program, but it did have all of the features we were looking to use. The salesperson was helpful and knowledgeable. The main reason that we purchased the program was due to other professionals that we knew who used it. Cons The note tabs are not as customizable as what we had hoped. I have had some customer service email responses that could be interpreted as snarky. We are just starting a practice (slowly) and we have not used the system in some time after training and we forgot several steps. Make sure that you keep those skills sharp because asking a question that was already asked will result in an email response suggesting that you have already been told that.
