About Inventor

Autodesk Inventor software provides a comprehensive set of design tools for producing, validating, and documenting complete digital prototypes. The Inventor model is a 3D digital prototype that helps users to visualize, simulate, and analyze how a design will work under real-world conditions before a product or part is ever built - helping manufacturers get to market faster with fewer physical prototypes and more innovative products.

Pros: I have used Autodesk Inventor for years in my workplace and it is a great design software that is user friendly and very detailed allowing to perfectly model any piece of equipment.

Overall very positive. The program is simple and powerful, with a few minor glitches

Pros: Ease of use, online support, and capability. Overall the program covers these very well. On top of that, it is one of a few standards among cad programs, and it's wide use makes it that much better.

Cons: I've had trouble drawing lines using functions, as the unit disagreements are a mess to deal with. Single variable is a monumental stuggle, and multivariable is impossible.

Overall: I've used it dozens of times for modeling projects for 3d printing and machined design alike.

It was great! I used it in 2012 for college courses do free. It was the student version.

Pros: I like that when I'm drafting, I can pick the dimension line and apply it to the same dimension in a different view.

Cons: I don't like that it's not that great for working on sheet metal. I think you need to make it sheet metal friendly more.

Overall: It's great for drafting and learning another line of autodesk software!

Pros: Having the 3d elements makes for a much more fun architecture design experience than the standard AutoCAD would be. Easy to learn and understand, many different ways to accomplish something if you can think creatively. Lots of tools and options.

Cons: Crashes unexpectedly more often than any other program I've used, but that is semi understandable since it is so powerful and large. Gets buggy/laggy if the file size is too large, and large file sizes are easy to reach if you aren't careful/strategic

Inventor is the most intuitive CAD software that I have ever used. Almost everything is visual

Pros: I have used mostly inventor and and Solidworks. Inventor is a lot more closely linked to the visual environment. The "snap-to's" are stronger (eg they suck in your cursor more easily) and I really like that. Also I found that it was a lot easier to design parts into assemblies.
ABOVE ALL I like the Grip-Snap feature for moving parts in the assembly. I also love how you can animate the assemblies. I haven't seen other CAD Programs that can do that.
The material renderings also look a lot better in Inventor.

Cons: It is really hard to import things into inventor (eg. STL files and other CAD file types. I would often use Solidworks to do my importing and save it as a file type that works better in Inventor. I also really like the mechanical mates that you can do In solidworks. It was harder to do those mates in Inventor assemblies. I also found that Inventor was more likely to crash my computer than Solidworks.

Overall: Beautifully rendered complex models

Pros: Inventor has a very intuitive user interface. Not as pricey as other top-tier packages and provides a great bang for your buck.

Cons: Not as revolutionary or powerful as other packages but seems to be a great middle-of-the-road option with plenty of features for most industry needs. Automation & analysis features had been lacking in past releases but are starting to catch up.

Pros: Inventor is easy to learn and use. Most 3d models can be created using a few basic features. Many videos are available online for learning to use other more complex features.

Cons: Have not found many if any cons. Maybe a little difficult if switching from another 3d modeling software at first.

Pros: I love how easy Inventor is to pick up. As a Beginner, you can already start drawing complex parts without many problems. Another aspect of it that is very nice, is it's ability to complete tasks using different commands. If you are unable to complete the object with 1 command, there is normally another way to do it.

Cons: The largest drawback of Inventor is it's communication with programs outside of the Autodesk Suite. Although Inventor is a great product for modeling, 3D printing with an inventor created drawing can be an issue

Overall: It is a great communication Aide. By having a 3D view of an object, contributors are able to see that object in space and manipulate it as if it were in the room, thus sparking more detailed conversation resulting in a better end product.

Pros: I couldn't function without this software. I am in the construction industry and I am openings construction plans all day long. I need this software always.

Used inventor for years, if you are in the Autodesk product suite you will catch on quick.

Pros: This product really is not too hard to learn to use if you are familiar with AutoCAD. We used this to design sheet metal parts to be punched by a CNC and were able to build complex assemblies.

Cons: There can be considerable setup to get the stretch out parts right, depending on bend radius and the forming after the sheet metal part is flat punched.

Comments: Autodesk Inventor has extensive professional features for 3D modeling and CAD design, but perhaps not enough to justify its cost. Students, however, can obtain a three-year license for free, which is exceptionally useful.

Comments: Inventor has been in my repertoire for about 8 years and I still use it very frequently. Autodesk has decent customer service reps and turn around times on bugs etc. Patches and hot fixes are produced as needed.
