Pros: Implementing Magento into our website (and Wordpress site) has allowed us to easily take payments, submit license codes, and send receipts to our users.

Cons: It's complex. VERY complex. If you want to customize it, you need to know programming or be willing to spend lots of money in add-ons that can do what you need.

Overall: Lots of orders on our site that are processed successfully without much interaction on our end.

Pros: Magento is optimized to work with thousands of products, tons of traffic, and a big number of sales. In other words, it's for the bigger e-commerce stores out there.

Cons: The Enterprise version is a lot more expensive. In fact, the company doesn't even list the prices openly on the website.

Pros: It is fairly easy to use if you have any knowledge of basic HTML or file structure. I think as a web developer it could be very useful.

Cons: It is hard to make more than simple changes like adding products. You have to call the developer and that makes it kind of difficult for the average person to manage. I'm sure if I spend a little more time with it I would be much better and editing it.

Pros: Magento is really easy to maintain and has useful upgrades, easy navigation too. Quite a few pricing options make it ideal for a variety of personal or business uses. Fully customisable and flexible.

Cons: It's quite taxing to get it set up; not something without better than beginner knowledge can do. Definitely need a great deal of coding knowledge for this.

Pros: The backend is well done and has no need to be extended, normally. It includes a complete product management system which could replace a local ERP-system. Very wide spread software. Beautiful templates available.

Cons: Too much time needed to get results, customizations require extreme amounts of ressources. There is not only one way to reach a goal, but many - hence you need to search lots of places when you want to change a template or a functionality. Will never use it again.

Overall: Learned something about open database structures, about MVC-modelling, but lost a lot of unpaid time for debugging a little changes.

Pros: Magento is one of the most well-known eCommerce platforms today and with more implementations so it is easy to find companies that work with it. It has a lot of add-ons and can help you to have an online store in a professional way.

Cons: The biggest problem we've had with Magento is how difficult it is to learn to program under this framework. Our company is a software development company and we still had great difficulty learning to use it. Additionally with each update we are in need of starting our learning process again.

To become an expert in this tool means that you should devote all your time to it, which is not productive for us since we must be involved and updated in several technologies at the same time.

Overall: None so far, we have not yet been able to understand how to program with this software. However, I understand that once overcome this obstacle can develop excellent eCommerce platforms. We will continue to try to learn more about this framework

Pros: I migrated from Presta shop to Magento because I needed more freedom configuring my shop. Magento allows that. It's pretty speedy CMS as well! Of course, the best thing is that the community version is free. The fact that Enterprise version is used by Nike, Coca Cola and Ford should mean it's a quality CMS.

Cons: - Changing even a little thing may require lots of technical knowledge (or time trying to find out how to do that)
- Some parts of interface and menus do not seem intuitive. It's pretty hard to find something for the first time.
- lack of pre-made themes and pretty difficult process of installing one

Overall: Opportunity to run a professional looking e-shop for free.

Pros: Multiple users and ease to update website data and information.

Cons: Some elements can not be updated in house and require a developer/programmer.

Overall: Initially Magento was implemented by a website design company to create a website to sell a bespoke service and products for us. Set up as a website that we can maintain and develop in house, which we have done for the past 4 years. We do not use the shop and buy basket element of Magento. But I can see it would be a beneficial website use for companies selling off the shelf products. It is fairly easy to use but basic HTML5 knowledge is beneficial. Multiple users is helpful, that has required training in house. Magento role out security patches that need to be applied; we have these applied by an external company. As a B2C company, we do not actually use payments online so I unable to comment on that element of Magento. For the version of Magento that we use, we do not have access to their customer support however on the occasion I contacted them and they informed me this; they were helpful and at least put me in the right direction. The entire set up is good for a ecommerce; it is especially good for maintaining SEO well and updating it regularly.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure that you or someone in your company know html5 as a minimum requirement.

Overall: I'd had the opportunity to be part of a few e-commerce projects and my option is always the same MAGENTO. It provides a very robust yet ready e-commerce tools and website for you to start your own business.

It usually involves many ours configuring your Magento in order to make it look the way you want and behave the way you want to.

But i'm looking for something i can install on my own server, i consider Magento (free), an open-source ecommerce platform owned by retail behemoth eBay. This feature-rich service offers you a tremendous amount of flexibility, provided you are willing to put in the extra effort. If you sell via eBay (which owns Magento), the service is definitely worth a look, thanks to its deep integration with the online-auction behemoth.

Comments: I¿ve always been a big fan of Magento CE and run several stores with that software. So imagine my excitement when I was invited to beta test Project Stratus (Magento Go). That feeling faded when I realized that I was most likely an alpha tester.

When Go was launched, I cautioned them that the program was not ready for rollout. The complaints about Go you¿ve read are legitimate; the lack of support, the billing issues, difficulty in setup¿

Magento is a beast to set up, but once it¿s running smoothly, it goes on forever. Magento Go is a beast to set up, even though they provide a ¿walk-through¿ Q&A set up program. If you want to make your site look different from all the other Magento Go Sites, you better well be a cascading style sheets guru.

Their SaaS (software as a service) program does NOT come with FTP access. All your style images have to be uploaded individually to their server through their web interface. This is a glorious pain in the tuckus.

They do offer a bulk uploader for item, but don¿t you dare leave a field accidentally bank. It will upload the new items, even list them on Google shopping, but they will not be listed in your Manage Products page. You won¿t be able to fill in the field you left blank.

Which brings me to tech support¿ practically non-existent. ¿I¿m going to escalate this for you.¿ was the most common support answer I heard. Did I ever hear back about the escalation? Nope! They only began to respond to me after I got my credit card company involved with them for selling a fraudulent product, and overbilling me on multiple occassions.
Recently I like AbanteCart because of the code it outputs and it has so many great features. It has great UI, rather secure with a fantastic layout. Also installation of extensions is very easy.
I also tried CS-Cart. It is easy to set up and manage it. There are much more features in comparing with other shopping carts.

Comments: Magento falls in the category of people with professional web development experience, and although intermediate level developers can most definitely handle Magento, it's generally implemented by medium to large e-commerce sites with some cash to spend on a web person or department. That said, keep reading to learn more about what Magento can offer you.
Magento has one of the most extensive features lists you will ever find in terms of e-commerce software. It's the exact reason why the rates are so high and why all the Magento customers are large corporations.

Everything from marketing to customer segmentation is included. Standard features come along with the open source Magento, so you can work on search engine optimization with tools for Google sitemaps, Google Content APIs and search engine friendly URLs.

Marketing and conversion tools include coupon codes, customer groups, product bundles and newsletter management. The list is truly endless when it comes to features, but here's an overarching breakdown of the most important areas:

SEO
Marketing, promotions, and conversions
Site management
Catalog management
Catalog browsing
Product browsing
Checkout, payment, and shipping
Order management
Customer service
Mobile commerce
Persistent shopping

Comments: User-Friendly: As a starting point, Magento is a user-friendly solution for those without the technical expertise to code a unique solution off their own back. The admin area is designed to be accessible to those without extensive knowledge or experience, so you should find it easy to piece together the basics of your online store yourself.

Scalability: One of the biggest advantages of Magento is that it¿s a perfectly scalable system, so you can switch up your game from 10 products to 100,000. Magento is built with scalability in mind, so you can expect to find it easy to ratchet things up when the time comes.

Feature-Intensive: Because Magento has the capacity to be such a huge product, it can get pretty feature intensive. This is good, in the respect that you can make Magento do pretty much whatever you need it to do. However, be aware that this can increase the complexity of the system, which can make it difficult should you need to draft in the help of a Magento developer.

Comments: Magento is not easy to use at all if you're a beginner. Honestly, if you have no experience with development and plan on working on the site yourself, skip Magento entirely. It's only for businesses that are not on shoestring budgets.

Developers find the Magento interface quite reasonable, because it's a quick and easy self-hosting setup, and everything is consolidated on the navigational menu such as customers, products, promotions, sales, and reports.
The Magento system is a local installation, requiring FTP; but that shouldn't bother developers. In my opinion, I would like an online platform to complement my local Magento setup, but at least it helps for security.

Comments: Magento has one of the most extensive features lists you will ever find in terms of e-commerce software.

Private sales
Gift registries
Store credits

Comments: If your business sells online, your most basic needs are the abilities to accept payments and to track orders. For that, you need online shopping cart software. There are plenty of hosted services, such as our two Editors' Choice award-winners for shopping cart software, Pinnacle Cart at Pinnacle Cart and Shopify at Shopify. But if you are looking for something you can install on your own server, you should consider Magento (free), an open-source e-commerce platform owned by retail behemoth eBay. This feature-rich service offers you a tremendous amount of flexibility, provided you are willing to put in the extra effort. If you sell via eBay (which owns Magento), the service is definitely worth a look, thanks to its deep integration with the online auction behemoth.

Comments: As a long time fan of the X-Men as a whole and Magneto in particular, I enjoyed this tremendously. I ordered this at the same time as "Magneto: Testament," which was finally reprinted, and the two pair together extremely well.

Bunn gets Magneto's voice perfectly in this volume, as we see him roaming the country, eliminating threats to mutantkind. There are a couple of instances where we think we're about to see a softer side of Magneto, only to have him revert to his true form time and time again, which is essentially what this story is, coming on the heels of Magneto partnering with Cyclops for the past few years, but now going out on his own again.

The second arc deals with Magneto seeking vengeance for perhaps the most infamous mutant-on-mutant crime, the Mutant Massacre (a classic and incredible story from the 1980s that included the first published encounter between Sabretooth and Wolverine). It's worth picking up that collection if you want to know more about the Marauders, who are the victims of Magneto's wrath here. The final page of this collection left me wondering what direction this will head next, and I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for the next volume.

Comments: Magento has one of the most extensive features lists you will ever find in terms of ecommerce software.
Though it's not easy to use at all. Magento is a great platform for a shop that you know will do well. If you¿re an ultra-small business making your first move into e-commerce, there may well be less heavyweight solutions that can do the job. But if you are getting big, you would love to have it . Magento is used by massive retailers like Samsung and Nespresso, as well as countless small e-commerce operators, so it¿s a serious contender for any business looking to make the move into online retail. This Varien's open-source software is is very powerful and yet intuitive when it comes to presenting your products. You can easily create your products catalog and manage it. You can add more than one images for the same product, review the product and allow creating of wish lists. It allows catalog and product browsing, product filtering and product comparison. You can easily add new products, do batch product update, manage your inventory, easily manage orders and shipments, and integrate different payment methods.
To sum up, my experience with Magento has been extremely good. It took time to get used to but definitely worth the effort. I , of course, don't even have a single regret spending my time trying it out.

Comments: The cool thing about Magento is that you don¿t really have to use other marketing tools to get everything you want, from email marketing to ads on the site. SEO is automatically configured, unless you want to go in and change things yourself.
Marketing benefits include the ability to upsell products, offer promotional pricing and give out coupons. I particularly enjoy the email marketing platform and multi-tier pricing for quantity discounts, pushing people to buy a little more to reach those discounts.

Comments: Magento is hefty, but for good reason: it provides a lot of functionality out of the box.The architecture consists of four layers, namely Presentation, Domain, Service, and Persistence. Magento is comprised of many components ¿ fifteen, to be exact. And developers must understand all the dependencies among these components to develop custom modules.

Magento has a dedicated marketplace with free and paid extensions. With hundreds plugins to take care of basic functionalities, you can entirely focus on developing unique features for your store. The only issue with this PHP-based platform is fragmentation.

Pros: Has everything you will need to start an online store and start selling.
Easy to extend with plugins and extensions

Cons: Plugins and extensions can be expensive compared to other applications.
Need an advanced knowledge of programming and web applications to do own theme customization or programming

Overall: I have used Magento for over 5 years. It is one of the best opensource applications for starting an online shop/e-commerce. Be advised, you need to know what you are doing if you are to use Magento, unlike other stores I find Magento does not do too well on shared hosting. It is recommended you use VPS, cloud or dedicated. Plugins and extensions for Magento are always over priced, so expect to pay more if you want to extend Magento beyond the default setup. Programming or theme customization for Magento is difficult so you will have a huge learning curve to understand it.

Comments: I am using magento for over 4 years. I am using magento as a developer and store owner. Let me first describe my developer experience. Magento is big and hard to learn CMS system for building e-commerce stores. However, it is also the most robust one, most adaptable and most extensible platform. It can take some time and money to adopt it for all your needs, but when you reach desired state, it will pay off. You can automate most of tasks and of course synchronize your catalog, orders and clients with your internal CMS system. As a store owner I would like to say, that you need some time to get used to work in magento admin. They are many settings and you need to learn what are they for. But it also offers a lot more advanced functions (payment methods, promotional rules, tax rules, group promotional rules, reviews, etc¿) than similar open source software. Try it!

Pros: - adaptable - a lot of extensions for all your needs - a lot of built in advanced functions

Cons: - quite hard to learn - needs properly configured server for optimal speed
