For most advanced functionality you end up paying for additional add ons, or spending a lot of time on custom code. Pros Great inventory management and e-commerce functionality. You can build a clean looking website with a modern layout, and it is easy to get started with little to no experience. Cons Customizations are very difficult for those who are unfamiliar with the platform. Once you select a site template/theme you are locked in to a certain look. This can be an advantage and disadvantage. When I want to change something in the design of my site, I can't do it easily. It seems a bit complicated to me. December 6, 2024 4.0 All in all I must say I have had a positive experience using shopify to build my online business. They provide excellent analytics tools to help you keep up with every detail of everything that happens on your site. From customer traffic and sales figures, to guides on what to do next to increase sales and conversions going forward, they have your back. Pros The site is really easy to navigate and understand. In one afternoon I was able to get a complete ecommerce site/store set up and stocked with products for print on demand that I personally designed myself. There are options and customizations available for every aspect of the site from the color of the header background to the profit margin percentages I wanted for each item to additional admin apps that are customizable as well! Cons All those options can be overwhelming to someone who is new to working or selling online. While there are live chat agents available and help tabs and menus everywhere on the site it still can take some time to get familiar with everything and the functions. The platform is mature, well supported, and the third party integrations cover most needs. Just keep an eye on the total cost once you factor in apps and fees. Pros Getting a store up and running is faster than most alternatives. The app ecosystem is huge so you can extend functionality without custom development, and the payment processing works smoothly out of the box. Admin interface is clean and easy to navigate. Cons Costs can creep up once you start adding apps and the transaction fees add up if you're not using Shopify Payments. It is NOT a one-size fits all platform. Pros Shopify is very effective for ecommerce purposes and listing items for sale on the website or adding integrations such as countdown headers. Cons It can be very difficult to edit theme settings the way you want without coding. A lot of it's customization is coding based and not acccessible. I always found answers, there are so many apps that you can connect and you can literally do anything you can imagine in shopify. Pros Very beginner friendly. If you need support, there is an answer to any question I had in their FAQ List or someone made a youtube video about it. Cons If you want a good theme, you have to purchase one. The included themes didn't have the options I needed for my shop. Price starts at 300 €.
