Easy to review and adjust projects, the PDF viewer and page creationg can have some minor improvements. Pros The easy way to build an estimate. For roofing it is really easy to adjust conditions to meet your project needs. Cons In some cases it crash when working abroad. I feel it's accuracy and customization features for our scopes puts us a step higher than our competition. I would highly recommend this product for your estimating needs. Pros Customer support, accuracy, reports, being able to customize your own databases, groups & conditions. Set up is pretty easy for our techs. The admin portal is also an excellent resource. They stay on top of bugs and issues. A great tool for bidding & estimates. Security seems pretty tight too. As far as value for the money, it tends to lean towards the pricier side of estimating programs. I do feel it does give us an edge, though. Cons I feel it can be a little too deep sometimes. A cut & paste for the conditions from the take off screen tree would be extremely convenient. It also does not always start on the most recent condition that you edited. It will often begin the takeoff from the last condition that you used rather than the last condition that you edited. I can print out reports for the field, but they just throw them to the side. Pros Takeoffs are fairly simple once you get past the semi-cumbersome training. I like the ease of adjusting labor rates, and that once conditions are built they remain. Cons Editing the database is an awful task, and even when you think you have a handle on it....you don't. Formulas are damn near impossible to read unless you have a print out of what each piece of a formula means. In fairness, it is built into the program, but making one from scratch on your own is not worth the time it would take to learn it all. Setting up reports to reflect exactly what you want is extremely difficult. If you did it every single day and learned all of the ins and outs of how to set reports up that's one thing, but this is one of the most unfriendly aspects of the Edge. There are conditions that are never used and are unable to be deleted (hard to count how many times I've selected the wrong conditions), not everything saves in the database (FRP setup), and let's not forget that the amount of updates that there have been; more than Apple, and that's saying something! I would be more apt to continue using a program like this in the future with some major overhauls on some areas, specifically ACT takeoffs; I can't click and drag for a square footage without it crashing the system. I have brought this to the attention of the developers/programmers and it is still not fixed. Also, is there a 3D rendering coming? Reason for choosing The EDGE I was not involved in the decision to pursue the Edge as this company's estimating program. While some of the updates have been good, there are still enough shortcomings with this program that I would jump at the chance to switch to another program that has been thought through more thoroughly. Once time is invested in learning how to navigate the various tools, it can be incredibly productive. Pros I appreciate the degree of detail that a roof project can be customized to. There is a deep library of options and behind-the-scenes tools to master estimates and generate proposals. Cons Tools/functions are complex and challenging to navigate as a new user. I used it at my two companies, later introduced to two other companies where I worked after I sold my company. I've since retired and came back and have now introduced it to the two new companies that I work with. \[sensitive content hidden\] has always been there for me and very helpful. The support team has always been available and very helpful. The EDGE has provided me with as accurate an estimate that one could produce, and also provides the means to purchase and manage a project with materials and labor, as long as the user takes the time to dial in his database and insert the correct information. Once that's done, it's a mandatory tool where I work. Pros It's thorough, adaptable, and can give me what I need. I've used the EDGE ever since \[sensitive content hidden\] started it. More description on the items to the left as to what they are below them would be very helpful. Pros Still Learning but to be able to capture zones as GC's require breakouts more and more. And for Alternates to be able to quickly shut areas to recalculate bids and alternate pricing quickly. Plus the ability to create budgets easier and faster Cons Trying to locate Sheets, when images are downloaded the come out in different orders, ie it will go 1 36, 37 38 39, 40, 2, 55 56 57, 3, etc. not sure why it does that. It has gone through some major "version" changes over the years. I have always been an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" type person. However, I've decided that all of the version changes ended up being useful and/or necessary in the long run. Pros I see it as a full-blown roofing estimating program with all the reports I would ever need. Great customer support. I still bid a few projects by hand, but probably 95% of my bidding is using the EDGE. Performance and speed seem great, but I've never used any other estimating programs to compare it with. As for value for the money, I've never had the opportunity to compare it with other programs. I've had no problems with security. Cons When I was informed that I HAD to switch over to Ver.-10 from Ver.-7.9, since they were no longer going to support 7.9, I was not able to save ANY of my "hundreds" of previous jobs from the past 20+ years. It also didn't allow me to transfer ANY of my custom data base that I had built over the past 20+ years. That switch was a very uncomfortable time for me. Me, as an user for less than a year, learned pretty quickly how to navigate. UL is still not correct, but we can adjust as needed. Overall great tool and help, from the manual calculating. Not quite sure how much security we have. EDGE updates is pretty frequently, per received emails. Performance is great, sometimes the speed is slower even to open it, but that could be online version as well? over all good product. Pros EDGE generates exact price and hrs needed. At the same time you have an overlook of the cost breakout. I use it for bidding almost daily. It is a good value as it helps with accuracy and saves time and money. Cons Many fine tuning has to happen in order to have all works correctly. We still adjust hours in the summary. I asked a question and never got the answer if Report Spray Chart and a drawing can be on the same page? We have to combine 2 pages in 1 for our field. Had very few issues after working with the system for over four years now. Pros The system is accessible anywhere I need to work. It is always fast, efficient, and accurate. When I have any issues, I can reach out to customer service and get a very prompt response. Pros I like how intuitive the program is and the fact that there are almost infinite amounts of customization available. Cons Because you can customize so much, there are a few areas that really need to be double and triple checked to make sure everything is correct. There are also a few bugs when rounding up that reset some items that cannot be rounded back to 1. This can cost you a lot if say you have a crane rental at $3500 and you plug in 6 days of that, then round all the other products up and the rental goes back to 1 and you miss it. August 7, 2022 5.0 I am a huge fan of the EDGE, I have been given the great opportunity to have this tool available to me at my job. I have not used other estimating software besides EXCEL spreadsheet calculators so I cannot compare it to other software, But I have researched other estimating software and their features do not seem to match what the EDGE can offer. Pros The best feature I like is the ability to copy a job or conditions and use them on a new job. once you figure out how to navigate much of the tools on the EDGE, you can create a new job with similar conditions to a previous job and whip out the bid faster than starting from scratch. More bids completed in less time is a Good Thing! Cons I have no cons, at first when we switched from version 10 to 12 it seemed unnecessary as we were so used to the Version 10. After using it for a while there is actually not much difference. Pros The EDGE helps in organizing and displaying a lot of useful data for accurate estimation of bids, and helps in automating all functions of pricing and submission of bid documents. I also like how The EDGE can be used as a project management tool, which allows accurate tracking of tasks and enables the work team to collaborate in preparing work programs and technical and financial reports. Cons With proper training, there's no need for exhaustion, since all tasks will be completed on time. There are a few items i wish could be implemented in an upcoming update: - Drawing Maneuverability - I have used AutoCAD extensively and the zooming/panning operation with the mouse is much better/easier than what the EDGE currently offers. The zoom function is achieved by rolling the wheel of the mouse and the panning is achieved by holding down the wheel while moving the mouse. Currently the EDGE zooming is much slower and hard to control either with the keyboard (ctrl++/-) or the zoom window in the top right corner. Panning is not very user friendly whether the window in the corner or the keyboard arrows are used. - Customizing Reports - the reports function of the EDGE is a very useful tool. However, sometimes i need it to spit other information out and this is not a very easy task to modify. - Excel - exporting to excel is a nice function but i have been told that importing from excel is impossible. when entering prices in the Prices screen it isn't possible to pull down a value that is the same for multiple items. February 5, 2020 5.0 Our company uses it's own proprietary estimating software. I use the EDGE to do quick calculations of extra stuff I need to import manually into those estimates. I realized the EDGE is somewhat flexible to do certain changes. Pros The version I use is not a user friendly, interactive . It is very technical, which I like. Not everyone learns it well, which gives me an advantage as I have learned it more than everyone else I have met that uses it. I know of companies that have purchased it and do not use it due to not having anyone proficient enough to work with it. That is my advantage to get on a good job. Cons This version can be used on up to windows 7 only, which makes it a bit obsolete. To use more advanced windows you need to upgrade to a different version and there are costs involved, plus it becomes web based and internet dependent. I don't like that at all. The newest versions will close all the feature gaps that customer's have wanted for years. Pros The Edge will take off and price the estimate simultaneously with some minor tweaking on the front end. To go along with that, estimates have become much more accurate and fool-proof. Pros I like mostly the time that it saves while estimating compared to by hand takeoffs and also the accuracy it allows if things are set up properly. I like the ability to fully customize everything from estimating templates to the reports and so much more. Cons There are several features that have been taken out in version 12 that we really liked as a company. Also there are several smaller bugs in the newer version that hopefully shouldn’t be too difficult to work out. I think there are a few of items that would only make the program only that much better. Pros The fact it walks you through each assembly and gives you the areas you need to focus on. unlike with Qbid you have to know each part and peace before building the assembly. Cons Some of the Onscreen features of Qbid would make the edge that much better. like the ability to just select a portion of a wall assembly in stead of the entire wall. or having to break it up into small parts. The cost seems to be getting a little high compared to other programs with similar functions. I would like to see the system receive a few upgrades to justify the cost. Hopefully this will include a production control module for the project management side. Pros The accuracy of the system, the simplicity and universal use of the conditions. Cons Doesn't have enough features to assist with the project management side. Needs more control options for uploaded drawings. would really like to see a production control feature for managing projects. I came from PlanSwift 11 and even though it was a little easier to do take-offs, the database building was much simpler with the Edge (for the most part). Overall 8/10. Pros Custom Database Building. Ease of Take-off estimating. Cons The small bugs (Crashes, install issues, etc) Not Cloud Based, yet. No tutorial on how to make custom 'reports'. There are features (UNDO BUTTON!) that would be nice, but overall the user interface and available reports are great. Pros Easy to learn user interface. Provides usable reports. Easier and more thorough than estimating by hand. Cons No undo button. Some of the more intricate features are difficult to learn how to perform. Estimator/Project Manager Construction Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Good overall, need a few more features" July 24, 2019 4.0 I am performing metal stud framing & gypsum board takeoffs to produce bids. Overall, I like the program. The previous company was transitioning to the newer version of Edge. It seemed quite different, so I never made the transition. We are currently using an older version at my current company. Pros I like that the takeoff and pricing functions are all in one program. It is easy to modify prices and production rates. Performing the takeoff is smooth. Cons Some basic functions should be added: 1. CTRL+Z to undo last operation. 2. Be able to cut (or copy) and paste multiple conditions from one page to the next. 3. President Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Longtime User" July 10, 2019 5.0 The Edge saves me so much time in preparing estimates. Time in the office is limited. Using the Edge lets me make the most of that time. Pros I've been an Edge customer since the late 80's when the program was DOS based. We bought then for the same reason I use it today. It's fast and accurate. I can change systems and calculate numerous alternates with ease in in short order. Cons That's really hard because there's very little that I don't like. If I had to give an answer it would be that the tapered insulation designer was an add on instead of being part of the program.
