### "Full-Featured, Integrated Community Management System"

Northstar is delivering on the promise of having everything we need on one platform. Our biggest frustration before Northstar was that our POA/accounting, golf, food & beverage, and recreation facility operations were all set up with different best-in-class systems. The Northstar approach pulls everything we need onto the same environment. It's not easy, but it's worth it. The process has not been as smooth as we would have liked, but we're pleased with how responsive the support team has been over time. And we know this is SAAS, so we aren't locked into the "2023" model — as improvements are made to the platform, we will reap the benefits along the way.

Pros

Pulling all our property and member data into one system for all the services we offer was the biggest challenge and is the biggest benefit of Northstar.

Cons

The implementation process is necessarily complex, and our prior setup was especially complicated. Garbage In, Garbage Out. We brought a lot of garbage to the table, and that led to challenges with the implementation team and out accounting team.

### "Website & Mobile App Transformation "

There are a million reasons why I would tell someone to use Northstar for developing/ designing a website and mobile app. The team went above and beyond with everything through the process. \[sensitive content hidden\] was the Project Coordinator, and he is outstanding. The communication is superb. Him and his team would always keep me updated throughout the process of the website build and design. We had several meetings to discuss design elements to make it customized to our country club, and \[sensitive content hidden\] would always make sure those elements were brought to the website. Once the website and mobile app launched, I was speechless. Everything that they had worked on was officially brought to life and it was an honor to work with \[sensitive content hidden\] and his team. If you are considering redoing your website, do it, because you will not be disappointed with the final product.

Pros

The communication is superb. The team would always keep me updated throughout the process of the website build and design. We had several meetings to discuss design elements to make it customized to our country club, and they would always make sure those elements were brought to the website. Everything is extremely organized; I could look to the schedule to know what is coming up or what I need to provide for the website. Everyone was so professional and personable, it made it an enjoyable project. They are also flexible and understanding. The training meetings were perfect. All of my questions were answered in a polite and informative way. Not to mention the meetings were recorded so it is nice to have everything as a reference.

Cons

I don't have any cons from this process. If I had an issue or needed help with something, they were there to help me find a solution.

### "No documentation"

Inherited this situation eight years ago. Not working for me. They basically had to be brow beaten in to making the bank reconciliation functionality work, to the degree that it now does, we have been waiting for at least six weeks to get the POS terminals to communicate with our credit card machines (still not resolved). I have yet to attempt setting up their ACH drafting function to draft member payments, so those continue to be done manually using our bank's website. Not good.

Pros

This software runs as an app accessed through a browser. There is no local client to load, and the app is available offsite without needing a terminal server and running RDP or running in a Citrix environment.

Cons

The single biggest problem is that there is no readily available documentation. The latest user manuals are dated in 2008. They do provide a list of the most recent changes since the previous release, but what about the fourteen releases in between the previous release and 2008? Also, the support site has a very limited knowledge base. The intricate details of setting up their POS modules are no where to be found. Also, when you call in for support, the VOIP phone call quality is between just acceptable and very poor. Keep in mind that you are calling Pakistan in the middle of the night during typical US business hours on the East coast. I could probably live with it if there was proper documentation, but that is a bridge too far.

### "Club Now App Implementation"

We use NS in a very heavy fashion and cover many modules at our club. I'm newer to the club, however, as time goes on I'm discovering the "horsepower" NS has and am very impressed by what the platform does. I've used about 4 other club systems and this is by far the best platform I've used

Pros

This review is specific to the Club now app. With the buildout and implementation of the Club Now App, I worked directly with \[sensitive content hidden\] . He led the project from start to finish, provided all deliverables, timelines, requirements, etc., etc. in a very detailed manner and communicated extremely well to aid in the progression of the project. He is very good at what he does and made the entire process from start to finish incredibly easy for me and my team. Provided training for my team and I once we completed the build. Everything about the process was everything I could have asked for and more. Thank you \[sensitive content hidden\] !

Cons

Scanning the member card for each individual at pool check-in seems like a feature that needs to be worked on. Think of the setting of a mother with three kids and holding a few bags. the feature of being able to scan the member card one by one seems to be something that might pose a challenge for us at check-in. would be great if a member card can be scanned, then a pop-up on the employee's screen allows the employee to select all members/dependents that are present, along with adding guests/charging guest fees all in one transaction. we have a very busy pool, so this might be something worth exploring. it's minute and a small detail, from but an operational perspective it would be extremely helpful

The Northstar Support is helpful and thorough! Our Project Coordinator answered all of our questions and guided me through how to change and make updates to our Northstar website.

Pros

It is easy to use and to manage our large database. As a large HOA this is important to us. The customizable nature of the software has benefited. The support team has been helpful is working through our needs.

Cons

At this time, I can't think of any cons. With the size and uniqueness of our Community, we have found ways to utilize the software to find all our needs.

Pros

A one-stop-shop for most of the club's management needs. Implementation was poor however, and only POS, member database and Accounting was working.

Cons

It covers all areas of club management, which makes it difficult to replace. Also gives NorthStar a lot of negotiating power over us.Your review states 20,000USD/year as a "one-off" price, however there is also an ongoing annual 21,000USD "service fee". That makes it poor value.

### "Report Writer is worthless"

Pros

Reliable in the features that existed for a long time.

Cons

It is so poorly designed that God forbid you need to regroup an account from one line to another. You will spend day fixing the report. After 5 years asking about updating and fixing FRD, it is still as bad as it was.

Pros

Ease of use. Seamless integration throughout modules. They listen to the needs of their clients. Their continued dedication to improving and growing their product. Their training team is extremely knowledgeable. Support is always available.

Cons

The report writing capability has improved quite a bit over the years, but I would like to see it continue to grow.

Better Financial Management of the Club

Pros

Northstar is very user friendly, great accounting/back office software, stable database, very good canned reports, has integrated modules Customer support is very good

Cons

Northstar needs to create a better report writer or maybe be able to interface with a report writer that is already in the market.

The training sessions with \[sensitive content hidden\] have been extremely helpful. He is courteous, patient and very knowledgeable of the software. It is nice to know that he will be there for me if I have any questions.

Still learning. Alot of restrictions for making reservations.

None, actually, the utility of our club's website has diminished.

Pros

It's a single system so you don't have to integrate with disparate systems. In other words, the tee sheet, dinner reservations, tennis reservations etc all integrate directly with accounting from go.

Cons

Unfortunately not all the component pieces are well thought out. In particular the golf side leaves much to be desired and is not as functional for golfing members as many other products are. Also the user interface, while nice, still is not stable and Northstar's constant adjustment of their base css has created problems for my club.
