Pros: Easy to use and powerful. We can edit patterns easily and produce patterns for cutting within a few minutes.

Cons: There are a few bugs that need fixing, and the software crashes frequently. There has not been a new release in quite a few years.

Hi Daniel - thanks for the feedback. We've actually released version 8 of PatternSmith and are doing releases 3-4 times per year now with our reorganized software department! Spokengear is eligible for an upgrade anytime you want it, so please reach out if you'd like to learn more!

Does what I need it to do. That's all I want from it.

Pros: Relatively easy to use and the editing tools cover the basis of what I need done in the product for our uses cases

Cons: Some of the features could be labeled better. A beginner can easily get lost in the program. Sometimes tricky to draw an arc, but I guess you can't have everything.

This product has sped up our production and made the process easy and simple to use.

Pros: The operators in the back have all pick this up quickly and it has been easy to train them on. It has improved our quality and made the process much more consistent.

Cons: The thing that we dislike about PatternSmith is we continuously have to go through there website to get new unlock codes for the software. It is easy to do this, but it does happen more than we would like.

Overall: The benefit of being able to quickly and easily make new tarp drawings and repeat the tarps that already have been made.

Thanks for taking the time to give us some feedback, Steve. We know the unlock code issues is a major frustration for those of you affected. Happy to report that PatternSmith version 8 has an improved unlock system that is proving to solve the problem - Michels is eligible for an upgrade at any point, so I'd encourage you to reach out to customer service and we'll help with the process!

The software is amazing the way it makes the machine mark data and make circles on material.

Pros: Our company has been using the "PatternSmith" software since 1999 to manufacture aircraft components made from textiles. Its use has improved our productivity 10 fold at least. One operator at our company states, "The software has made my work easy by making the cutting machine so easy to use. It performs so many functions previously performed manually using a measuring scale, marking pen, and scissors. It marks the stitch lines on the fabric used to sew the webbing to the fabric on large and small nets. It also marks small holes on fabric for the laser guided snap installer to aim at and cuts large holes in fabric 3" to 4" in diameter. It can even cut 12 foot long shapes in a very short time. I would recommend it to any company using scissors to repeatedly cut fabric."

Cons: The software has continuously improved in the last 16 years making the cutting table perform its function even better. The only real concern we have is the vacuum pump is too noisy.

Pros: I like the tools to create patterns , tools helps to have precise shapes, also importing files from other softwares works perfect.

Cons: For Pattern Smith software I would like to add user short-cuts creation, every user have their own way to work and own of shortcuts.

Overall: Our Industry has grown up tremendously with this Software

Happy with the overall experience but would love more features, shortcuts, & customization.

Pros: I enjoy the short learning curve and ease of use the most.I have taught others on how to use it and they quickly picked it up. The manual is also very informative, and the tool tips are a good touch.

Cons: I would like it more if there were more ways to customize and set automatized features. It would also be great if the user can upload a photo and has it be seen through the "pattern window".

Overall: The company I am currently with has been using this software for quite a while and I understand that it is a very important piece to our business. I am happy to see a new update is coming out and would love to see the what's new.

Hi Dexter - thanks for the feedback! Wanted to let you know that, if I understand your request correctly, PatternSmith version 8 has a new feature that lets you place a picture as a background in the pattern editor and scale it. Then, a pattern can be drafted over that background quite easily! If you guys are interested in giving it a try, head over to http://www.autometrix.com/patternsmith/trial and download a 30 day trial, then give us a call and we'll guide you through the process...

Pros: Visualization of how the cutting table is laid out. Easy drag and drop to organize the table. Limits on rotation angle and quotas. Great customer support, including online personal training!

Cons: Drawing original shapes is difficult with finicky snap on lines, and unintuitive dimensioning - much easier to import. Difficult to know if the cutter head will cut in a continuous motion, or pick up and hammer down again.

Thanks for the feedback, Brian. If you're importing patterns from other software, you might find the Pattern Optimization tools available in our current software platform, PatternSmith 8, to be really helpful. With a single click, we'll prepare a pattern for cutting, which should minimize tool lifts and increase cut speed. Please let us know if you're interested in learning more! Rock West is eligible for an upgrade at any point!

Pros: PatternSmith software does all the work for you. All you really have to do is learn what the tools are and what they do. I use it to figure out all kinds of lengths, angles and designs for work and personal projects.

Cons: It would be nice if the plotter would mark away from the center of the table. Sometimes the pen catches the edge and lifts the material causing a loss in suction and sometimes breaking the pen. It can also cause the machine to lose alignment.

Overall: Has taken our product to new levels.

Pros: What I like most is how easy it is to use. Having already used competitor's programs at other employers I found transitioning to PatternSmith was fairly easy to learn. The system is clean and straight to the point.

Cons: There are a few glitches but the one I dislike the most is the seam end tool is not consistent. If you need the cut edges to mirror each other it is best to convert the seams to elements.

Pros: Easy to learn and use. Once new patterns are scanned into program, easy to manipulate for use. Easy to import old patterns and combine to make new patterns. Questions are always answered promptly.

Cons: When re-using old patterns cannot clear numbers of copies cut from last time. Cannot import bmps or pdfs so custom patterns have to be manually scanned into program. Sometimes notches are too small to see without zooming.

Pros: Simple, easy to use interface. Nesting is pretty easy. I like using the trace feature to import patterns via photos.

Cons: It has been crashing more frequently on me lately. It doesn't tell me exactly why it crashes, but seems to happen when I am working with patterns that have a lot of points or bezier curves.

Pros: PatternSmith is very easy to use. It has powerful tools in the editor mode that can be easily set up for your own specifications. We also export all of programs as .nc files that can be used for a variety of cutting machines. It also incorporates a material library much like other more expensive software platforms. When used in conjunction with AutoMetrix cutting tables the result is smooth, fast cutting with the ability to change the nesting area as needed for specialty fabrics and recuts. I would recommend Patternsmith to anyone who does high volume programming with multiple machine formats.

Cons: I would like to see some dimensioning capabilities in future releases. There are also problems associated with the back button and the software locking up. This usually occurs when there are a lot of radiuses or complex math equations working in the background. Saving to polylines often results in broken pieces such as a square having only three sides after saving it, At this time users are not able to set up a que for programs. They need to load each program individually for cutting.

Overall: Ease of use. Flexible.

Pros: with Pattern smith we have less of what we don't need and most of what we do need with out a lot of clutter. The functions that we use seem to be designed for the pattern that we need for our removable insulation covers.

Cons: some of the 3D programs could have more functions like a oblong to round saddle pattern and the nesting program could be included in package that comes along with the license.

Pros: The ability to workaround the issues encountered to create a very diverse and well rounded application, depending on which projects we're working on.
This program was made -for- cutting table operators, which means it works for cutting tables. It's simple, and gets the job done.
The recovery tool built in to Patternsmith 8.2 is great.

Cons: The pattern/DXF editing pales in comparison to the tools provided in Rhino 5 or Solidworks.
Several times I'll get an awkward crash when trying to work too quickly. Either I'm pressing keys and clicking or something gives an error and the program crashes out.

Overall: Automated CNC for the past 10+ years on -bulletproof- machinery.

Pros: What I like most is the ease of use. Everything is straight forward and easy to understand. I love that I can create any sort of pattern I need in a fraction of the time that I used to do by hand.

Cons: What I dislike is that there will be occasional software crashes that unless I am diligent about saving my progress I can lose all of the work I had done.

Disappointed the software releases are not coordinated and that functionality issues persist.

Pros: It is inexpensive overall and performs well with the cutting table we purchased. Very simplistic, however, could be enhanced simply by creating larger dialogue windows (currently looks like Windows 98) to allow for ease of use. Simple things need to be updated to today's standards in software GUI.

Cons: It is dated and updates are lacking and uncoordinated. Should follow more common tool selections coming from Solidworks or Illustrator or similar programs. Overall, it is a basic program that has a lot of functionality issues that do not seem to get addressed in a timely fashion.

Overall: Ability to use the cutting table and export as .dxf files.

Thanks for your honest feedback, William - and we apologize for the lack of communication of software updates. We are continually working to update our software, and as you may be aware, we have released PatternSmith 8 as our current platform, which addresses many of your issues. You're a user of TailorMade, however, which we're currently working to update to work seamlessly with PS8. Bear with us while we finish that up! If you're interested in seeing PS8 in action, please reach out to support@autometrix.com and we'll demo it. You're also free to download it at any point! http://www.autometrix.com/resources/software/

Pros: It is easy to design practically an endless amount of possibilities. Adding anchor points and marking are great features.

Cons: Saving patterns, especially when moving from different computers. The patterns sometimes get labeled as different type of files which can make them more difficult to find.

Been a user for over 10 years and have found the software very easy to use and quite helpful.

Pros: The software is pretty easy to pick up and learn to use. It is powerful enough to allow us to design all of our products in and light enough to allow a very quick workflow.

Cons: The software is prone to a few bugs, mostly consisting of the program crashing without warning. A few other bugs such as line connector not always working and objects overlapping when nesting with a box perimeter.

Overall: Workflow optimization.

We have only been working with PatternSmith for 10 working days and it is going well.

Pros: Everything is clear and understandable so instruction to staff was effective and achievable immediately.

Cons: It would be great of we did not have to go into every piece and change the color of the test, If the program could take the information that is labeled text and could convert that to the green. In some designs that we are running for full orders there are 1800 pieces that have be converted one at a time. Our small orders have about 325 pieces so even that is labor intensive.

Overall: We are still learning, both Pattern Smith and the cutting table are only 10 days old for us. We have never used a cutting table, everything has been hand cut. We have a TukaTech system for patterning that we have had for almost 10 years.

Works great with our Autometrix plotter

Pros: The software is pretty intuitive and along with the customer support and the manual we are able to manipulate our panels and patterns just about anyway we need. Nesting is easy and I have plenty of freedom to move patterns around.

Cons: After using this software for 25 years the only con is that we occasionally have issues importing files from certain CAD programs. Usually we can solve this by only importing one layer of the drawing.

Wish we had auto-nest function. Seems awkward to use. Hate scroll to zoom. Need help index.

Pros: Seems pretty reliable in general. Rarely gives us trouble and Autometrix is good about remote help, but wish there was more on-line tutorials or training available. Very possible that we don't know all the functionality and proper use of commands.

Cons: Wish we had auto-nest function. Seems awkward to use. Hate scroll to zoom. Need help index. wish there was more on-line tutorials or training available. Very possible that we don't know all the functionality and proper use of commands.

Overall: Need it to operate the cutting machine.

Hi Mark - thanks for the honest feedback. We do have a couple options for automatic nesting available as plugins for PatternSmith. Reach out to support@autometrix.com if you'd like more information. As far as training, we're currently looking into different ways to better support our customers with this. Feel free to reach out and we can discuss what you think would best meet your needs!

A fairly trouble-free software package. It works well for our needs.

Pros: Accuracy of pattern details. More or less anything can be designed with this software as long as you take the time to learn how to use it.
I draft all the patterns for our company and it took me a few years to get efficient at it.

Cons: Licensing can be problematic. At times it wants us to relicense the product for no obvious reason and the workers on the floor are unable to perform this action.
Often hours of work time are lost while they wait for me to relicense the software.

Overall: Without it, all patterns would be cut by hand with extraordinary waste and inaccuracy. This software removes all doubt if we keep control of our pattern files correctly (version control).

I am to the point of drawing everything in autocad and importing it.

Pros: It drives my CBC cutting table, and the company that installed the table helped immensely with training on the software during installation.

Cons: Lack of shortcuts. Lack of a command line. Too much reliance on button toolbars in general. No common line cutting, and additional charges for nesting functionality.

Overall: Not much. It drives the cutting table so we have to use it. We would never choose to use it.

Hi Michael - thanks for your candid feedback. We're certainly sorry to hear about your frustrations with PatternSmith. I'd recommend you look into upgrading to our newest platform, PatternSmith 8. You're company is eligible for an upgrade at any time. While our goal isn't to take the same approach as AutoCAD (so you won't find a command line, for example), we have made sure shortcuts are in place, have added common line cutting, etc. We have also added another lower cost automatic nesting option you might be interested in. Reach out to us at support@autometrix.com and we'll work with you to see if we can help Richey have a better experience with PatternSmith!

We been able to design hundreds of successful products using Pattern Smith only.

Pros: I have been in the design department for 17 years and I can tell you that:
1 . Pattern Smith is reliable; this program does not have bugs found in other programs.
2. It is very easy to use compared to other software.
3. 100% compatible with autometrix cutting machines.
For our company it is the best choice.
No complains so far. Our company has depended on pattern smith for 20 years. Our products are great and very competitive.

Overall: We have been able to design 99% of the products that the company offer.

Frustrating at times, but overall a decent software.

Pros: Importing of DXF files allow for a quick cut line identification. Nesting of parts is quick and easy.

Cons: Software continually has a "Not Responding" message that causes me start over if I'm not constantly saving data.
Nesting of angled parts is sometimes frustrating when using the arrow keys to nest. For example, if I want the parts to go down and to the left, then the part may go down to the bottom, but it will slide up the adjacent angled when going to the left.

Overall: Quick nesting of parts.

Hi Scott - thanks for the feedback. We definitely recommend you go ahead and update your software to version 8.2, which you can download on our website (http://www.autometrix.com/resources/software/). You're eligible to upgrade at any time, and we're always working to make our software more reliable. Of particular interest to you, 8.2 now has an auto-save feature! Also, we've added common line removal, which may help simplify how you nest your angled parts. Feel free to reach out to us at support@autometrix.com if you need specific help learning how to improve your nesting!

Pros: I rarely ever, need to upgrade because the upgrades don't work very well.

Cons: Constant crashing when I try to delete empty tables. Our table has issues with bezier lines. The way seam allowances reverse randomly when modifying a pattern. Extra points that are difficult to see because I can't zoom in far enough. When grouped objects are copied, the copy automatically becomes grouped with the original. The minimize and maximize icons are offset and difficult to use. Can't drag to scale. The height and width dimensions are flipped in the attribute box....

Hi Clayton - sorry for your frustration. Many of the issues you raise have been addressed in new versions, but as you may know, Landmark has turned out to be a very unique user of PatternSmith. We will continue to work to meet your needs. Far from "begging for praise," we are choosing to seek feedback from our users so our investment in future software development is targeting the right things. Thanks for your part in that.

Pros: It doesn't take very long to learn the basic commands to start designing flat patterns. Changes are also easy to make to subsequent revisions.

Cons: Some of the commands are backwards when compared to other programs. For example, the user has to hold the Control key to select multiple items instead of the Shift key. It is not as easy to draw or design as other CAD programs such as AutoCAD and Solidworks.

Overall: It is the only software capable of communicating with our cutting machine. We benefit by being able to cut patterns.

Pros: The best features I use are the different offsets and enjoy the ease of having keyboard shortcuts for just about everything I use the program for really increases my productivity.

Cons: The program does like to crash. It could use a marquee selection as well as more colors for reference to keep things straight although the addition of layers might solve this.

We got the table a few weeks ago and have noticed a significant reduction in material cut times.

Pros: It was easy to learn the basics, so now it's just a matter of fine tuning my understanding of the software to achieve what our company's goals are.

Cons: The software tends to crash or freeze fairly regularly, particularly when using the material library.

Pros: Pretty easy to get used to. I was able to self teach myself half of the functions of the software. I use it on a daily basis and can easily get the information I need without much effort.

Cons: Not as many options as other software. I use a Lectra Software which has a lot more flexibility and can use a wider range of pattern files, and is much more compatible with the companies we work with.

Overall: I am able to get daily desired information about patterns to our manufacturers and some customers. The basic information I need is very easy to acquire.

Pros: Pattern Smith has changed our whole operation. We can do more with less. The investment in Autometrix and Pattern Smith has proven itself an excellent decision in the growth of our little company. The time from concept to production has seen a huge drop in the first year. The software is easy to learn, start with the basics and expand every day.

Cons: Wish I had it years ago. There were a couple glitches early on that have all been solved. The team at Autometrix are always great to work with.
