### "Look elsewhere, actions made us lose clients"

December 29, 2025

1.0

Look elsewhere. Support is not helpful. You can submit a support ticket which results in either an awareness of an issue with no steps for resolution, or a flat out we can't reproduce your issue, sorry. They called and texted 150 of my clients at 2am, took no accountability for it and can not promise it won't happen again. I turned my reminders off completely, losing major functionality. There isn't a person you can contact or talk to about issues. A support ticket is your only option. And when you want to talk about contract issues, you wait weeks to get someone and multiple submissions about the same issue. There are so many buggy problems, appointments that don't save, billing that doesn't save, or requires multiple refresh or changes to take effect.

Pros

I have a hard time with the pro list. I used drchrono for over 10 years. The cost i guess is the biggest pro?

Cons

Support is terrible. No help, no answers and no solutions. Bugs that result in enties not saving, having to change and save multiple times for one item. The software send calls and texts to 150 of my clients at 2am and offered no explanation or consideration.

### "Implementation Nightmare + Unintuitive UI + Locked-in Contract – Buyer Beware"

October 30, 2025

1.0

After committing to DrChrono I discovered the system is virtually unusable without major workarounds. The interface is outdated, non-intuitive, and clunky — basic workflows require excessive clicks, tabs and navigation that make daily use inefficient. The implementation phase dragged for months, full of delays, unresolved issues and staff-downtime that disrupted practice operations. The training offered was insufficient: generic, basic, did not address our specialty’s workflow or busy-practice realities. Support is slow, often unhelpful, and you’re essentially locked into a contract with minimal freedom to cancel or exit—even when the system clearly fails to deliver on its promises. For any practice seeking a modern, streamlined, user-friendly EHR, I strongly caution against DrChrono. Unless you have a tremendous tolerance for frustration, excessive manual workarounds, and limited vendor accountability, look elsewhere.

Pros

Honestly, there is very little, if anything, positive to say about this platform. After months of using DrChrono, I could not identify a single feature that worked reliably or added real value to our workflow. The system’s interface, performance, and usability issues overshadow any minor conveniences it might offer. Even the supposed “benefits” like cloud access or mobile tools are poorly executed and frustrating to use. From start to finish, this software was a constant source of wasted time and aggravation. There are absolutely no redeeming qualities worth mentioning.

Cons

DrChrono is a complete disappointment on every level. The system is outdated, painfully slow, and nearly impossible to navigate. Nothing is intuitive — every action takes multiple steps that make no sense. Implementation dragged on for months with no clear guidance, and the “training” was useless, leaving our staff completely unprepared. Support is unresponsive and dismissive, often taking days or weeks to reply. Even worse, canceling the contract is almost impossible, trapping you in a system that doesn’t work. Every aspect — design, functionality, service, and communication — feels broken. This software has been an expensive and exhausting mistake.

### "No Practical Medical Decision Makers @ Dr Chrono"

December 3, 2025

1.0

Several major disappointments, but most recently Dr Chrono implemented a new policy that the EMR will not allow any staff, not even licensed staff, RN, LPN, etc, to send in a non-controlled prescription. All Prescriptions, even a BP refill can only be sent by the provider. This is not a new regulation from the state medical boards or DEA, and that same non-controlled RX can be called in by those same staff members. In a busy medical practice, providers do not have time to review a draft prescription and send in all the new prescriptions, much less all the routine refills and med changes, based on standing orders. Makes no sense to put these barriers in healthcare. These providers are already over worked and UNDER paid.

Pros

The pros were pricing in the beginning, but the functionality has continued to decline, and we will be moving to another EMR. For the reasons stated below

Cons

Management and IT are making updates and policy updates that don't even work in the medical field. They need a board of clinical and administrative personnel to advise on functionality. They are making changes that will run customers off!!

Pricing and now we know why its cheaper. Goes back to the people making decisions. It has to be cheaper to get people on board

### "TERRIBLE COMPANY WITH UNRELIABLE SOFTWARE!!"

November 13, 2025

1.0

Myself and my team have had nothing but problems for years with DrChrono. The only reason we didn't switch to a better platform sooner was because my entire practice and systems were built around the software so switching and training on new software was such a huge undertaking (and they are aware of that and why they raise prices 10-15% each year for their customers). We lost soooo much time and money with all the issues we've had with them. After deciding to leave and switch to a better software, they have now sent us to collections for the remaining 2 months they say we owe for the software we are no longer using. I should be suing them for all of the mishandled insurance claims, security breaches and lost medical records that patients are requesting. DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY THEY ARE TERRIBLE!

Pros

Starting out as a new provider opening my practice I had only ever worked with DrChrono as an intern at a different practice and he didn't have much positive or negative things to say about the software but I decided to sign up with them when I opened. In the beginning (about 8 years ago) there were less features, it wasn't as expensive per month and the customer service was decent.

Cons

As time went on and they kept launching new features (most we didn't use) the platform became more and more unstable. We started having issues with online booking and in total lost prob 20k or more in lost revenue from all the issues, time spent dealing with poor and frankly rude customer service reps. After about 6 months of them trying to fix all the issues they then raised the price of the software every year, and required a year contract in excess of over 1500 a month for a small practice with 3 providers. Software like Jane and Chirotouch charge a third of that and have far less issues. At one point we had over 15 support tickets open because insurance claims were coming back incorrect, appts were vanishing from our schedule, the software would go offline for hours during normal working business hours and many many other issues.

### "Not recommeded "

January 30, 2026

1.0

We moved to DrChrono expecting an enterprise-level EHR. While reporting technically exists, it is not intuitive or user-friendly. Even when a patient is clearly on the schedule, reports often require extra, non-obvious steps to capture data correctly, making routine KPI tracking inefficient and error-prone. Billing took nearly a year of back-and-forth to stabilize, and even now the system frequently glitches. CPT codes, diagnoses, and entries may disappear, fail to save, or duplicate. What appears correct on the clinical side can show differently once sent to billing, creating real risk and added cleanup work. Patient statements are also a major weakness. They read like internal accounting ledgers rather than clear, patient-friendly statements, forcing staff to manually recreate statements each time a patient requests one. Support is generally polite, but resolution is slow and often reactive. In addition, practices should read the contract very carefully. Some terms are non-standard and unfavorable, such as continuing to pay for provider licenses even after an associate has left the clinic. Overall, this platform has required far more workarounds and staff time than expected.

### "CPA's cannot reconcile numbers from Dr. Chrono "

June 16, 2025

1.0

If you add a provider your monthly goes up, but if you let a provider go the bill never goes down. Over several years we ended up paying 3 times more per month than what our actual provider head count. Very expensive.

Pros

It is new modern software. It looks great but has a long way to go to actually work properly. If you like to use reports to track your business performance don't use Dr. Chrono the numbers are Not Accurate.

Cons

Financial Numbers are not accurate! Someday it might be a good software platform when it is fully developed. But as of today non of the actual financial numbers from provider production to billing can be trusted. It is impossible to reconcile we have tried it does not work.

### "Choose any other EHR."

May 29, 2025

1.0

Signing up with Dr. Chrono was the worst practice decision I've made. They started off so well when we signed up in 2016. I loved them for the first couple of years. They offered to pay for me to attend a conference so that I would come to some marketing dinners and convince other providers to sign up. I almost did it, but scheduling didn't work. And then the honeymoon ended. First it was constant system slowness, glitches, then they outsourced their help desk. Every time I thought it wouldn't get worse, things deteriorated further. There is no easy way to export chart notes, so it will cost thousands and thousands to transfer 9 provider's worth of data elsewhere. I feel like a hostage. Some examples. In February, they broke our providers' inboxes. Instead of each provider seeing only their patient's messages and faxes like had been the case for 9 years, now we all see EVERYONE'S. In addition to privacy concerns, it makes a safety issue, as I have to wade through 100s of messages to find the 4 messages from MY patients. Very easy to miss important communications. We had to explain to them AGAIN 3 weeks ago why this thing they claim they have been working on for the past 3 months is a problem. Aetna ERAs for two of our providers still don't work, 5 months after they forced us to change clearinghouses. Labcorp won't complete the integration unless you pay thousands of dollars or send them a high number of lab orders per week. Appointment reminders didn't go out last weekend. We've had at least 3 days in the last year where the system was completely down for most of the day. Periodically, the system applies payments to balances, even though the transaction failed, so we have to watch carefully for that.

Pros

They have identified features that would be helpful to integrate in an EHR. There are a few options for customizing forms and templates.

Cons

Poor reliability. Things break all the time, and then when you make a help ticket, the help desk gaslights you trying either blame user error, or claim that the problem doesn't really exist. Eventually, you get them to understand the problem, but then it takes weeks to solve a ticket, if ever.

### "Customizable and includes scheduling and payments"

May 2, 2026

5.0

I was really glad to find something customizable that worked well for my chiropractic clinic. It worked for me for many years until I decided to use a different program that was more specific to my field.

Pros

Customizable and worked with my chiropractic business, from the get-go. It was free at first, and then transitioned to a paid model.

Cons

It wasn't chiropractic specific. It wasn't a big deal, but it did mean it included a lot of things I didn't really need.

### "Nice all around software"

March 31, 2026

4.0

I have had a good experience overall with the onboarding and support from the team as we set up a practice. It has been a smooth transition.

Pros

I love the patient management of Dr Chrono. It is fully integrated with everything needed to see a patient, chart the visit, and manage medications!

Cons

My biggest frustration is simple - I don't want the system automatically posting ERAs on me. I want to go through them individually and publish them. It is the most efficient way to manage denials.

Overall, drchrome application is user frindly and makes word very efficient. We have been using drchrome for a while and i can say that its multifunctional for the enterprise.

Pros

DrChrono application has been very useful and creates great value for money. It is quite secured though its a cloudbase application. Since we commenced use, our team has efficiently managed our client base, repayment contracts, and reporting.

Cons

DrChrono application demands a huge deal of wife data. Probably due to its cloud base or might be due to data volume of our teams see devided.

### "Poor customer support and lack of respect to your current clients "

December 16, 2024

1.0

Very poor support system. Takes them 3-5 business days to respond to a simple issue. Billing system is also very poor.

Pros

The scheduling is ok but everything else is hassle.

Cons

I hired a doctor and for me to add him i had to sign the contract for 1yr. He quit within 2 months, now they wanted me to continuously pay for the monthly premiums despite the fact he's gone and there's no use there. So image paying $$600/month for a provider who's no longer practicing. After speaking to their executive team, \[sensitive content hidden\] stated it would be a breach a contract which is complete bullshit. very disappointed

### "No Resolution"

October 23, 2024

1.0

Terrible. They are not communicating with each other and keep saying “we have a ticket xxx open and we will get back with you”…when I think I’ve communicated with someone and resolved my issue, someone else comes back with a new ticket #, and it starts all over again….

Pros

Scheduling part and ability to store reports

Cons

Inability to talk to a person or directly email a person. Even the chat feature is automated. About to have to close my companies doors because of the economy, and have been trying for almost 6 months to get out of my contract (I’ve been in for 10 years), and during the attempts, they renewed my contract for another year and are saying I need to pay another year’s fees to cancel. I can barely make ends meet and I’m the only one working here and I cannot cancel…

### "Atrocious customer service, recommending stay away"

September 5, 2024

3.0

Pros

Web based and ipad/phone app seemed easy to access

Cons

Oh where to begin on this? Endless runaround from start to finish - just scheduling a call with someone to help set up things took a month. Then they say I needed to go through enrollment, which makes sense but this was never discussed a month prior. Then there were some issues on the backend with enrollment process which no one got back to me on. Essentially paid for 3 months of "service" with zero to show for it, complete waste of time for myself and the rest of my group. I can't believe this product is as highly rated as it is, the customer service is beyond bad. EMR is just OK, a little clunky to put in notes, it appeared to be a glorified spreadsheet on top of a data backend.

### "Buyer Beware!"

September 28, 2020

2.0

I find their business practices shady, customer service says they will respond within 24 hours, which usually took 2-3 days. The business side doesn't care about their customer, they just want your money.

Pros

I thought the scheduling was the easiest part of Dr.Chrono, but that doesn't compare to how money-hungry the company is.

Cons

Prospective customers should know that while it is state law that the doctor maintain the records for a certain number of years, that if you decide, like I did, to leave DrChrono, they refuse to give you future access to any of your medical records. Once my subscription expired they locked me out of the entire system. There was no way to look up any record that I had written. When I mentioned this to the account rep that by law we are required to maintain record for a minimum of 7-10 years he said “you just have to sign up for another year, and pay in full, if you want access to your records, otherwise you are locked out of all of it." I find this practice, along with many of the DrChrono business practices, very suspect. They use ’strong-arming’ techniques to get you to sign their contract. Once you have a signed contract they can ‘at-will’ raise your subscription price. As the rep told me “our board of directors want to see more revenue coming in so they have decided the new prices, and they take place immediately.” They promise you iPads and discounts on your subscription in exchange for reviews, testimonials, and referrals. When you give them the aforementioned review—as I did above—and referrals they claim you didn’t give the referral or review (even though you have to provide them the link to the online published review) so that they don’t have to provide the promised iPad or subscription discount. This company operates on a bait-and-switch policy. Stay away! Dr. Loui

### "They still have a lot to learn"

June 26, 2015

2.0

Pros

Simple to get up and running. You can send automated appointment reminders via text, in Spanish. And when you type in a patient's address, you can type in the ZIP code, and it fills in the City and State for you.

Cons

It just seems like they're not ready. Like they put the product out before finishing it. Yes, they HAVE certain functionality, but does it work like it's supposed to? I've had many problems since I signed up in December of 2013, but this one is particularly revealing: DrChrono has a way for doctors to receive electronic refill requests, which is great. But when we started using it, we discovered that when we refilled prescriptions in this way, once it was sent, there was no record of it ever happening. No record whatsoever. Of a doctor refilling a prescription. No date. No medication name or dosage or number of refills. The whole thing would just vanish. The only confirmation we could get was by calling the pharmacy by phone and writing in the paper charts that we still had to maintain because drchrono can't track what doctors need to track. I made them aware of this issue in April of 2014. May, I followed up, no response. June I followed up, no response. DECEMBER rolls along, and I got an email saying: "Thank you for your patience as we've worked to investigate the issue you had reported about medication not getting added after the refill request is approved. We don't currently have a timeframe we can provide regarding when a solution will be available but did want to let you know that it is still on our radar and that as soon as we have an update to share, we'll be certain to let you know." It wasn't until February 2015 that I finally got an email saying they fixed it. Maybe it's fine now, I don't know because I don't trust them to handle my practice. I don't usually go into detail like this when I write reviews, but I'm hoping that this experience illustrates the central problem with drchrono. They are software developers with little experience in actually running a medical practice. Ask any experienced medical biller that has used DrChrono for billing, and they will tell you all the BASIC things that are missing from a billing software. Historical patient eligibility. Meaning, DrChrono doesn't keep track of what insurance a patient USED to have, only what they have now. So when you're looking at a previous claim details, it looks as if it was paid by the patient's CURRENT payer, not the payer that ACTUALLY paid it. And with all the changes that are happening with Medicare, and Obamacare, it's crucial to keep track of things correctly because a patient's coverage can change month-to-month. Recording prescriptions given through the software... correctly recording payments received through the software. These are BASIC elements of running a practice. And DrChrono is clueless.

### "Good but could be a lot better"

May 2, 2018

3.0

Pros

1\. It has a very elegant and eye pleasing layout which is the main reason I believe I tried this software. Navigating through the system is overall intuitive and generally easy to use. 2. It has a great functionality with the IPAD and that is why it has been awarded the best system on the IPAD. I don't even use my lap top to see patients. I use my iPad and then I supplemented this with my lap top. Most functions that are done on the laptop can be done on the iPad. This includes setting electronic prescription. In fact, some things are better done on the iPad such as reviewing the records and chart. 3. Electronic prescription is easy. 4. The system has a great fax capability with ability to fax almost from any screen and to fax most documents. 5. Dictation: The interface with dragon is decent although could be better compared to other EMR. The M-mode dictation that comes with the program is great. While the recognition is slightly below dragon, the M-mode dictation has the advantage of being portable as it is used with the iPhone are iPad. The downside, however, is that he cannot be used on a laptop. However, I really like the M-mode feature and use this more than dragon. 6. Cloud base which can be accessed from anywhere where there is internet and from most devices. ( It cannot be accessed from none appple Smart devices - Smart phones or tablets). 7. Notes and documents are automatically saved in an external third party cloud base ie BOX. This is actually a very good feature as a backup to have a access to our clinical notes and documents. This is of vital importance in cases where access to drchrono is not possible such as going to another system. The downside to this, however, is that certain parts of the chart (phone messages or email messages for example) are not stored in this third party system

Cons

1\. Lack of awareness of what a true legal chart is: As much as I like this system, this is the main reason why I may have to leave and find another system. They are totally clueless as to the difference between what a end-user sees in the software and what the complete chart looks like when requested from an outside source. There is a huge difference and the company do not appreciate this difference. If an outside agency (DEA, medical board or an attorney) ask for the complete medical records, the clinical notes and documents stored at the BOX account can be easily exported. However, communications between you and the patient by phone or email are not stored in the box account and not included in this information. When I have spoken with them about this, they inform me that I could simply print each phone or email encounter. This however is completely ludicrous - as in supposed the patient has 100 phone or email encounters. For unknown reasons, in refilling the same medications from visit to visit, it simply takes it out of the medication list that is generated in the complete dictated notes. This gets very confusing especially for an outside agency that is reviewing the chart. Its is completely confusing as to what medication the patient is taking at the time of the visit. For example, if I have a patient who is on OxyContin 80 mg twice a day, gets a refill on this medication, it takes it off the medication list in the completed dictated note. This creates mass confusion. The way it appears in the signed completed note, is as if this patient was not on any opioids at all, but then all of sudden, I prescribed them a very high dose of 80 mg OxyContin twice a day. (This would be malpractice). This creates absolute confusion especially if my chart is being reviewed by the medical board or the DEA. Furthermore, the signed dictated note does not include the number of medications prescribed. So for example in the case of this person who was getting OxyContin 80 mg twice a day, the note does not include that the total count of the prescription given such as #60 or #480. This makes a difference to a DEA offcer who is reviewing the records. Again, when I have discussed this with drchrono, they simply state that review of the medication history in the software can tell this information. However, they do not recognize that the only thing an outside chart reviewer has access to is signed clinical notes and not the complete electronic medical records. Again, this shows that they are clueless about difference of what the software end-user sees and what an outside reviewer has access to. 2. Templates are still in their infancy and generally they are limited compared to other EMRS. 3. Customer service: They responded very quickly to support tickets. Generally, if there is an major system wide issue it get results rather quickly. For other issues, it tends not to be resolved in a timely fashion or not at all.

Hi Dr. Doonquah, Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate the list of product features that have been working well for you. We are very proud of our award winning cloud-based EHR platform. As for the challenges you’ve mentioned, I would like to clarify some of the points that you may not be familiar with below: Phone call logs: You do not need to print/download each phone call to log it into your box account. You can print a full record of communication by patient in the patient communication report (under reporting tab). Once this is created you can upload it as a document for it to sync to box or manually include it as an additional document. Your account manager will reach out to show you. You mentioned DrChrono templates are limited but the flexibility and customization capability of DrChrono EHR is one of our core strengths compared to other EMRs. We’ve heard many compliments from both big and small practices how powerful they are and the type of productivity boost our templates bring to their practice. I see that your practice is not currently utilizing our template capabilities to its full potential and that can be easily resolved by our account manager. If you have an ideal template you would like to have in the system we can absolutely build it out for you! Additionally we have released many new template features such as charting by exception, which allows you to set default settings on the template and you can then chart the exception rather than the rule. I also see you do not have any templates set as persistent. This setting can be applied to any template and makes the information charted persist from one visit to the next. Many providers find this to be helpful especially if they frequently copy/paste the same notes. Thank you for your feedback on our customer service. We do take all of your feedback very seriously and we want to assure you that we have invested many new resources into our customer service team and plan to make many changes to improve our support. Your account manager is always a good resource for product related questions so you are using DrChrono to its fullest potential. She will reach out to you to schedule a call and answer any questions you may have. She will also provide product demonstration and be able to review how you are using DrChrono EHR. Regarding the medication refills, please note I have escalated this to our development team. We appreciate your feedback. DrChrono is known for our agility in product enhancement and we are always looking to improve our EHR quickly and frequently unlike other EMRs that take a long time to upgrade their system. Thank you for your detailed feedback and we look forward to speaking with you! DrChrono Team

### "BEWARE this company. HORRIBLE service. Terrible contract."

December 11, 2019

1.0

Absolutely horrible service. They're GREAT during the sales process (of course), and they were initially helpful in setting it up, but they very quickly cut you off from regular support and try to charge you hundreds of dollars for support. We were a new company, not ready to implement all features immediately, but when we got around to being ready to implement additional features, they told us that our support period had ended and it would now be (if I recall properly) $150/hr for support. There is NO phone number to call. Their ticket/email service regularly failed to answer questions, or answered completely different questions than we had asked. They took several days (or even weeks) to send canned responses that did not address the questions, which then required us to write back, which then took MORE time for them to respond, and then they would respond with fairly useless answers or just "sorry, our product won't do that, but we'll pass it on to our engineers for possible future additions." If you make the mistake of signing on with this company, READ THE CONTRACT VERY CAREFULLY. If you start out on a more expensive plan and decide to downgrade, THEY WILL CHARGE YOU THE HIGHER RATE FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR. Cancel early? CHARGE YOU THE WHOLE YEAR. Terminate a provider? CHARGE YOU FOR THE WHOLE YEAR. We hired an NP in January. They renewed the contract in August. We terminated him in December. They want to charge us for his account until next August.

Pros

It has a visually pleasing interface. There is otherwise very little about this software that I like. I have wanted to switch systems almost since we signed on, but it's such a hassle to switch EHRs that I've kept using drchrono despite hating the product, the company and their horrible support. I've finally reached the last straw, and we are going to switch.

Cons

Almost everything else. Almost every time I wrote to the company with a problem, their answer (when I finally got one, which takes forever) was initially to blame me and my staff, followed finally by an admission that we weren't doing anything wrong, but that their product didn't currently have those features or didn't work that way. The way the product works also puts you at very high risk for data loss, which has happened to us multiple times. There is no local storage of the data, so if you lose internet connectivity after writing a big section of a note, your changes will all be lost. This, of course, is a stupid way to design EHR software.

Reason for choosing DrChrono

The interface looked user-friendly. It's Mac friendly, and we're a Mac-heavy office. Support \*seemed\* good during the sales period; support rapidly went downhill after the sale was made.

### "Does not function as advertised."

November 7, 2022

2.0

The first year or two was great. The subsequent 4.5 years have been a nightmare. Because of how hard DrChrono makes it to export charts, I feel like a prisoner to it. Read only access to charts costs $150/month and require a 1 year contract, so I can’t even gradually move my charts to a new system.

Pros

Theoretically DrChrono offers a comprehensive product with all the features you would want under one roof. It was easy to learn how things are supposed to work. The UI is not too visually cluttered.

Cons

It doesn’t work as promised. When something is broken, the help desk first gaslights you,, trying to convince you that it’s not broken or that it’s your fault it’s broken. Sometimes tickets are open for a month or two before they even acknowledge that it’s broken. They don’t reliably notify the larger DrChrono community of system level problems. The status page with system uptime statistics is a lie. It presently boasts 100% up time in the last 30 days, but on 11/3/22, the system was so slow it was unusable. We cancelled patients and sent admin home because we had no access to charts, as did multiple of my colleagues using DrChrono. Also read your contract with a lawyer. The sales person will promise you the moon, and there will be things that seem like common sense, but if it’s not in the contract, they won’t honor it.

Reason for choosing DrChrono

They claimed we would be able to easily add providers, and separate our accounts and charts if those independent providers left our practice. That turned out to be a lie.

Hi Dr. K, Thank you for taking the time to write us and for your feedback! Indeed we posted a system performance issue via the status page on November 3rd (the timeline and RCA are currently available through the incident history page). This was categorized as degraded performance rather than a full outage which is what's currently being used in automatically computing the system uptime statistic. Our team is working on incorporating additional statuses, including degraded performance, in this metric for increased accuracy of our overall platform health in the near future. We know you have been working closely with your account manager to address any concerns. We take this feedback seriously and appreciate your continued partnership! - The DrChrono Team
