It makes my exams more efficient so I have more face to face time with my patients. Pros Scheduling patients is easy and the schedule is nicely color coded and easily readable. I love how the shortcuts makes charting (auto fill, previous exam notes) efficient. The tabs for different part of the exam is organized and grouped well. Cons They do not have a way for me to print out a comprehensive exam summary. I currently have to manually print out each tab which is time consuming or I just write it out manually. Documentation is tedious, in order to add components you need for a Patient chart, you have to utilize what is in the system & make do. For Example: Pharmacy - we need the preferred pharmacy for each Patient. We had to utilize "other referral" to enter it. On our Intake forms, we had to basically recreate the form to add the needed information when updating a Patient's chart each visit. Your tech team is very good - they know Crystal very well, what it will do, what it won't do, so that saves time. They are willing to assist with work-arounds and showing me how to find what I am looking for. I appreciate their help as we rely on them regularly. Please provide them huge kudos! Thank you! Pros It's easy to use, user friendly, has the important information needed to schedule Patients, to keep information on their visits, record notes/chart, etc. Cons The changes Crystal makes sometimes does not make sense - for example, in the billing section - you have to check a box in order to look up diagnosis codes, then add it to the list of codes needed to bill by clicking an arrow, then if there are old codes that are not needed, you have to arrow those over to the other side and save. If the codes are in the wrong order, you have to arrow up or down. . .very time consuming. . .the old way you could remove diagnosis codes by holding down shift, then selecting all of the codes not needed & delete them. None of this arrow, arrow, arrow stuff, then save. . .before they auto-saved. Very time consuming for a Biller. It's been very nice being able to easily access customer support whenever we have a question. Pros The customer support is amazing, very convenient and the training staff is very knowledgeable. We only run our optical department through Crystal and it has the best optical program especially for the money. Cons That there isn't premade templates to choose from for the custom invoices & statements. The way that the billing is done and how it shows up on a statement is sometimes very confusing. Also I knew from previous uses elsewhere & recommendations that the customer support was amazing. Switched from [NextGen Office](https://www.capterra.com/p/31268/NextGen-Ambulatory-EHR/) We were not using their optical program. There's seemed confusing and not complete. Our clinic and ASC just switched to ModMed. They also don't have an optical program but they partner/integrate with other optical vendors. Pros This system is easy to navigate and is super user friendly. Cons The switching of Practice management systems was not fluid but customer service for Crystal was very helpful! April 3, 2026 5.0 I have used Crystal PM for 15 years and their support has been great! I would definitely recommend the software for single location offices. Pros Crystal PM continues to improve their software with refinements and 3rd party integrations. Their 3rd party integrations has helped us with improved efficiency and increased sales. Cons The UI looks outdated and the underlying MySQL database system can be slow. I only wish they can update their UI to allow better scaling with Windows 11. Review Source MU Marc U. They are also quick to help and teach. They have been adding so many new features to better the software and they love suggestions and feedback. Pros Customer Support is wonderful. I always get a response within 24 hours at the most but I normally wait no longer that a couple of hours. The help they give is also amazing and you don't deal with a bunch of random people but people that have assisted you before and you begin to recognize names and voices. Cons Bugs and Issues- There is always going to be bugs and issues with any software and no one is ever going to like them. Patient Communication- Patient communication could use some upgrades to be more efficient. Pros A customizable software for electronic health records. Whether you have a vision therapy practice or contact specialty practice or both, you can customize the Crystal PM EHR software to your specific needs. You have the option of starting your own exam record template from scratch or building upon and copying someones exam template. Adding or deleting certain parts of an examination record template is easy to do on Crystal PM. Cons Because it's so customizable to design your examination record template, the process to design, organize, and adjust your examination record template can take some time especially starting from scratch. Also it allows our doctor to go through our notes and see how the patients are doing. The Calendar works great! There is a place to put the schedule of each vision therapist so we can see everyones schedule at once. Helps plan who has an opening and if we need to more patients around. Cons There has been a slight glitch when the doctor and one of the vision therapist are in the same patient's file the notes of the doctor will not be saved. This only happen a few times tho. Pros The program is completely customizable. If you take the time to work on what is best for your practice, the ease of use is incredible. Tech support is very prompt and patient with questions. Also scheduling appointments is easier than other EHRs, it will link the guarantors' information, including insurance to another patients record. Cons Only one optician can work on entering inventory , for one manufacturer. We wish the "waitlist" , "Current room list"and the "Close" tabs were farther apart on the screen.
