Pros: Good layout on main page for client/pet info-- fairly intuitive navigation. There are tabs that let you easily look at rx, vaccines, diagnoses, and medical records.

Cons: The look of the software is dated as well as how information is entered. Doesn't seem to have changed much in the last 10 years, which is good for some people, I guess!

Overall: I am familiar with the software and it hasn't changed much in a long time so I rarely have to learn new things about it. It's a pretty intuitive and simple system.

Comments: My background is with Cornerstone and Via... These programs are far superior and much more user friendly. Both programs can be easily used and navigated with little training by those who have general profeciency with computers. Avimark is ridiculously confusing and needlessly tedious in it's functions. It's dated and unattractive.

Cons: The entire program is like beating a dead horse... a fossilized horse corpse. It is impractical and confusing. Items can be added to charts from multiple windows but doesn't apply universally to invoice.

Overall it has been an improvement in our practice.

Pros: The ease of sending messages to staff members. It is also simple to email records and receipts. I like that it is easy to enter various forms of payment to a client's account.

Cons: It often lags and is very slow. I also hate that when you leave the schedule to look at something else, it does not take you back to the date you were looking at, it bounces back to today's date. It is very frustrating. We are also having difficulty deciding how doctors can let us know if a client has refills on medication.

Kim, thanks for your review! We are happy to share that next release of AVImark (version 2017) will contain some enhancements to improve overall performance and speed of the software. In addition, the prescription refill issue you noted could be solved by using AVImark's Worklist feature. Feel free to contact our support team if you'd like assistance using that feature. Have a great day!

I've noticed it's very slow. However, it does have some positive features.

Pros: I do like e-mailing records straight from avimark because it is very convenient and makes things easier for our clients.

Cons: I dislike how slow it can be when we are extremely busy. Also, it randomly crashes and slows us down.

I think Avimark has great potential but it extremely slow and crashes often which is not ideal.

Pros: I do appreciate all the different features the software offers. I really like how you can email medical records straight from the patients medical chart.

Cons: I really dislike how slow the software is. It makes things hectic and stressful. It does not make Avimark very pleasurable to use.

Pros: Most cost effective software to buy. If you price out the annual support fees it will pay for itself in 5 years over Cornerstone. (I keep pushing for it at my new office)
FEATURE RICH. Requires thorough reading of the manual to truly see all the features and I suggest going to different paperless offices to see how folks use all the features. Best features I miss now that I have been at a Cornerstone office for 5 years: the right click WHO GOT, you can go anywhere to any service and item and see at a glance who used this item recently, not run a sales report. HUGE help.
Next editing their item lists, can do a whole category at a time, can hit next over and over. Very helpful.
Lastly LISTS, we used them constantly for interoffice communication and managing labs and medical records.
Not part of Avimark but it integrates with NetNotes. That is an ap that worked with AVImark that made paperless message taking a dream. REALLY WORTH BUYING THE NETWORKING FEATURE

Cons: Need a really smart IT professional to set it up right. I managed the LAN for 2-3 years on my own and it gave me problems, because I am NOT a professional. Once we got someone in that KNEW their stuff (an IBM network problem solver for over a decade) we got a LINUX server and had 16 systems with a huge monitor white board. Never went down, rarely had problems, but a good IT guy needs to be figured into your budget. Not really a CON but Vets are famous for DIY.
Upgrades tend to be glitchy, since the very beginning. There is no way for them to be able to test their software on all our crazy network setups, so you'll get 6 new awesome features and 1-3 things you have to wait for them to patch and fix. Drove me crazy for a while and then just became something I planned for. Worth it in the end.
Rebuild whenever I needed an accurate inventory. If you haven't invested in their sequel server version, it just has to be done, nice thing was I COULD DO IT, I didn't have to call support to do so. If you have an amazing server it takes very little time.
Ideally use networked printers. Cornerstone it is an obligation not an option.
Not intuitive, requires learning, the context menus are so vast (read feature rich) it really takes a while to pick up.

Overall: I miss it so much every day I make my new boss mad I repeatedly tell her, we are switching, it is a matter of WHEN.

Pros: What I like the most about this software, is the shortcuts. It really makes things easier. When it does freeze up of course.

Cons: What I like least about this software is the fact that it's so slow and always freezes. if one computer freezes, you can almost bet that the others will too, shortly after.

Overall: The benefits I get from this software is that I get to work for a litter quicker, and easier. I feel safe knowing that we are using a more secure software.

Pros: The system has decent features. Easy to transfer clinics to paperlite record keeping. The followups are great for digital messages.

Pros: Easy to learn and built in glossary speeds data entry. As others have mentioned there are network traffic issues but once we upgraded the server and switch the traffic issues vanished.
Most clinics likely have not learned all the features and established good processes. Don't blame software for poor hospital protocols.
One price for all the stations.
Support is great but hardware problems can be frustrating to solve. Don't skimp on the server.
Can be integrated with other services.
And get a good network consultant. Our problems disappeared once we did.
I expect the low reviews reflect trouble with the hospital network and hardware.

Comments: I have been an Avimark user for 19 years. I placed money in developing / customizing the program. As I grow the program becomes slower and slower. Being so vested I feel stocked. When I ask fir help their answer is: "that is the way it is".

Pros: Familiarity with of the "tab" environment. Program used to suffice my needs. However they lack vision.

Cons: Clunky, sloooow. Lots of steps to document, post, charge, view, substract inventory. Unable ro troubleshoot with their support structure.

Pros: Love how user friendly this software is! Love that it is compatible with importing lab work from in house machines. Scheduling is very easy to read and work with. Patient files are organized and easy to read. Pricing is comparable to others in the market.

Cons: I do not have anything I didn¿t like about AVImark. If I HAD to pick something, it may be that there isn¿t an employee scheduling option. Would have been helpful to keep track of employee schedules all on one software.

Pros: Not much. Maybe it's user friendly if you are only using it as a appt scheduler it's goid. Anything more & it's a nightmare

Cons: Stay away from this product if you have, or want to have, a paperless environment. The are trying to take an old legacy system & tweak it to work in an advanced, paperless world. It wzz never designed to be paperless & never designed for a lot of workstations. So, it freezes every 1/2 hr or so at every workstation so you have to do a manual shut down. It cant handle large client records with lots of atratchments & images such as xrays, ultrasoubd imagex, digital photos, etc Horrible rech support. We know more than the tech support folks. If its anything more than a simple problem your in bug trouble! They will not transfer or give you contact info for a supervisor or mgr of client service. If you finally get ti someone they basically blame all your problems on your network & wash their hands of you. If you are looking for anything more than a calendar or badic name & phone # RUN to another pms.

Overall: Biggest benefit are the reviews

Pros: Simple to use in general.

Cons: Requires a lot of data input to put it to work as full practice management software. Requires a lot of clicks to get all the information you might be looking for in a patient's record.

Overall: I've worked with this software in multiple practices I worked at doing relief work and evaluated it for my practice as well. It is a decent program but requires a lot of creation of your own templates, etc. There is/was an active yahoo user group that could help with this, but unfortunately, the software still seems behind the times as far as importing images easily, coordinating all medical records and for consideration as a complete practice management tool in 2016. This may change as I believe Henry Schein purchased the company, but I have not seen much recent indication that this has changed or will change. Customer support seems to have flagged since Henry Schein took over. I've heard from a number of colleagues that they do not receive the support they once did with Avimark before Henry Schein purchase. I find it cumbersome to work with as it takes a lot of clicks to find the area you want inpatient medical record. The data is not stored in one easy to access location that flows logically and that is frustrating!

Recommendations to other buyers: Nothing else.

Comments: Avimark is pricey and not user friendly at all. It is a step up from the old green screens however. It is not intuitive and there is no support, whatsoever, unless you want to pay a large fee. So if you have one question a year (which is about what we have) you have to pay hundreds of dollars. Also, if you do not buy their support and you need to restore a backup, the manual says you need to call IT support to back it up. It seems like they are forcing you to pay for it one way or another. This is a drug company, not a software company. There are many other products out there that have support included at a better price.

Comments: MANY features don't work properly or work at ALL. You can call support until you're blue in the face....and they calmly explain that there's a "ticket on that already. but nothing has been done to fix the problem yet "
And nothing WILL be done.
The interface is UGLY but I could live with it, if ONLY the software worked.
Don't even THINK about adding Rapport, the add-on client communications module...it DOES NOT WORK. The sales people will LIE about the features, and they do NOT work.

Also as technology changing they are not willing to go cloud base. I don't know how they can compete with cloud base software. It's hard to maintain server when other options are there . Dr. Sandhu: Thank you for being an AVImark customer since 2007! Have you tried AVImark's site feature? It will allow you to share AVImark across multiple locations hosted by one central server. All client and patient files, reporting, treatments, inventory, and appointments can either be separated by each location or managed collectively. For example, if you incorporate a call center, the operators will be able to see a consolidated view of all appointment calendars or a separate view of each individual calendar. We will give you a call to help determine if AVImark's site feature will help you gain the central access you are looking for.

Comments: We've used Avimark at our small animal, 4 doctor veterinary/boarding/grooming/doggie daycare practice for over 15 years and have converted our other two small animal 24/7 referral clinics to AVImark as well in the past 2 years. We find that Avimark is very user friendly, has great reporting features, and is intuitive for new staff in terms of initial training. AVImark has a ton of features we haven't even implemented yet for our 3 almost-paperrless (paper light!) practices but that means we always are learning new and fun ways to use it! Support is very good but sometimes I feel that the response time to some tougher to figure out problems is a little lacking, and at times we pose a question and may get two conflicting anwers, but for the most part their team is knowledgable and very eager to help, but I realize that they have a lag time in their training, just like we do with our stasff. Our biggest frustration in the past couple of years has been the waning support hours, which means that when we have tech issues or need to do version updates or run other AVImark utilities, the practices must be offline/no software to use for a few hours in the middle of a business day - but that is likely the case with many other PMS options as well so I would just add that to my AVImark wish list - more support hours! Otherwise the AVImark team is eager and open to user suggestions and it's a great program overall - we would not consider anything else!

Comments: I have alot of pros. The intergrations with the lab (bloodwork). Works well with downloading into clients medical history. The medical condition is great for chartless clinics and putting in glossary notes which you can customize. Sending emails or text messages to clients through the system. Rapport is the best, love the confirmation of appointments that go straight to the appointment book. All the reports you get so you know the client has received. We are now doing the reminders and I do not have to worry about a client not getting notifications. You get a report on who they sent too. Q & A is by far my favoraite. I have put our protocols in it so the staff can look up things that maybe they forgot. I have so much information in it that my favoriate saying to the staff is "Look in Q & A" and it is there. If not it will there. There is so much in the software that I can't touch on everything but you learn something new every day. Avimark or Rapport Customer Service has alwasy been great when I have called. They really help you solve your problem. The remote in is the best ever. That is usually the first thing I ask with I call, "will you remote in". The only con is a pro too, that there is alot this software can do and learning it at the beginning can be overwhelming, but leaning what all is available will be awesome.

Comments: We have been using Avimark at our two hospitals for over 12 years. We initially purchased this software because of its simple, easy to use interface. The program is intuitive and new employees learn to use it quickly without difficulty. The program has a tremendous number of additional features and functions that are simply a right mouse click away from the main user screen. Our hospitals have been using electronic medical records in conjunction with Avimark's Medical SOAP format for the past 7 years; we would never consider going back to paper records. The program has most the bells and whistles that any companion animal practice will likely ever need or want.

Avimark also has a large number of industry partners that they have worked together with for the development of interfaces for services like electronic lab report downloads for not only for the major reference labs but also many in-hospital lab equipment companies as well, along with wireless patient monitoring during anesthesia. They also have extensive integrations with other programs such as credit card processing so that invoicing clients now has seamless credit card and signature capture, digital radiology images can be linked directly to the patient's medical record for easy access, viewing and much more. They have an optional communication package for texting of clients, and electronic email reminder of patient services due.

Overall, the program is easy to use, has good functionality and versatility and is easily scalable from a single one doctor practice to large multi-doctor facilities with 40-50 users or more. The developer is constantly improving the software, adding new features, fixing quirky issues, etc. Contrary to several other reviewers¿ postings, I would highly recommend purchasing and maintaining the annual software support program. Your practice's information software system is as essential to your business' livelihood as much as your phone system or the electricity to power your lights. We typically see at least one or two major software updates each year, not to mention the value of having customer support available for help with any problems or to walk you through the set up new functions or special features. Avimark is a well-rounded full featured program and is a good value and investment in your practice.

Comments: AVImark used to be a good company, but now that they have been fully sold to Henry Schein (who also owns ImproMed) the Customer Service has gone downhill. If there is an issue, they stop responding to calls and emails. They keep adding unrelated vendors to their program, they continue to keep adding extra fees, until the program has become a hodgepodge of broken software haphazardly "glued" together. The basic part of the software works well enough but advanced features are rough and unfinished. In fact that would be my number one issue, that problems within the program are not corrected. Every upgrade causes parts of the program that was working fine to crash. Sometimes it can take months to fix and sometimes it never gets fixed at all. Their product crashing has resulted in some practices being hit with a major loss of income. Their forums are littered with complaints with no one from the company listening. I expect that in a few short years this company will close or "morph" into some offshoot of impromed/AVImark with all of their problems and none of the benefits. I have used this program for 18 years now. It was a DOS program and it still feels DOS based at times. It is not a true windows program. The software is in desperate need of being updated.

Thank you for alerting us to your concerns. We make it a point to listen to our customers, and we regularly review their concerns with the software. Once we resolve these issues, we release fixes that typically solve the problem. We also know updating software is a general concern, so we put a large focus on improving our update process, and as of today, we've released 11 program upgrades without incident. We are also working on updating the look and feel of the AVImark software program. A newer, more user-friendly version of AVImark will be available in 2016.

Comments: If your looking for software look somewhere else. Tech support is the worst I have ever experienced. They do not even know their product and even when you buy the exact hardware they rec the product fails and they blame you. They can not tell you what programs to avoid or how to set up your computers to avoid freezes, restarts, timing out issues. As you can guess I'm looking for alternatives and don't care how much they cost at this point!

Comments: I was one of the first users in the early 1990s with a 5.25" floppy disk. It was the only product that offered all the features without extra costs. It was not the easiest to learn but I had been very, very happy with it until around the time Henry Schein bought them. I could not afford the yearly tech support costs nor justify getting new hardware to use the free updates. I have been using the save Avimark version for the last 8 years. When I did use tech support (in the past) it was always very prompt and the staff well trained. I am paperless for 20 years, take lots of photos and have 1 server and 10 terminals. they are all getting old and updating to online appointments looks interesting. I hope it is bug free and internet stable. Will consider updating to this soon. Comments on it would be helpful - about the Avimark's Rapport website and its integration with Avimark. My only other comment is to the clinic that says everything was crashing all the time. I had this once many, many years ago- was a graphics card issue in all the new terminals we got.

Horrible! This software is a money pit!

Comments: We've had Avimark for several years and have had issues weekly with the product. It's fairly easy to use and has some great features.....when you're not getting error messages or the system freezes or crashes all together. We frequently have to shut the system down due to error messages. When you call Avimark for support you're on the phone with them for a hour or so rebuilding indexes etc (like we all don't have anything better to do)....just for it to happen all over again the very next week. In March of 2013 they even built an independent server for our practice for the low price of 1820.00 upon THEIR advise. We're still having the SAME issues. Our practice probably has one of the most extensive call logs of all their customers on file. You would think they would offer to come out to our practice to see if they could help us in person....nope. But they will send a rep out to help your practice in person for 995.00 a day! We already pay them 1344.00 per year for tech support and that doesn't include MASH support which they will charge more. I agree with another reviewer who said AVImark "will nickel and dime you". It's true. When you have issues they just try to sell you an upgraded tech support product. Our entire staff is frustrated with this product and wish we had never purchased it. They leave you feeling helpless due to their lack of concern and resolution with your issues. If you like to spin your wheels weekly then this is the product for you.

Comments: After using Avimark for 9 years we're now looking into new software. While Avimark is generally user friendly and "intuitive", some of their modules (esp the SOAP templates) are extremely cumbersome. While some features are great (ie the "whogot" list and the glossary), their inability to keep their product functioning around the clock has pushed us into the pricey decision to find new software.
They were a comparatively inexpensive option when we opened but as we grew, the program seemed to have difficulty handling our volume and kept developing errors. In their defense, we do not use their software in the way they intended (as we hate their SOAP section, yet still wish to be paperless) and this has likely caused many of our "growing pains". The program may work well for someone else and they may never have to deal with Avimark support.
We pay ~$1200 for annual tech support. This covers updates (however they have not told us when updates are available- we have been told by the company that we need to periodically check in to see if an update is available). For this fee, the company only offers tech support M-F 7a-8p and only until 2 on Sat. They're closed nights, Sundays and holidays. Also, their IT specialists (who can really fix problems and not just read prescripted fixes for specific error messages) have even more limited hours. There is no-one with a pager and no matter how much you are willing to pay, they cannot help after hours.
We are a 24 hour facility and Avimark went down late Sat night and despite us calling support first thing Monday am, they did not get us back up and running until late Tues. We then spent 21 hours re-entering data from when we could not use our practice management software. Since this happened, our system still does not work well (very slow with error messages). We've repeatedly called support, been placed on long holds then were told they'd call back (then no one calls). I would give their customer service 0 stars if I could.
In researching other companies (at NAVC and on-line) I have yet to find one (even the really small companies) that does not offer some type of emergency after-hours service (some are pager based and cost more than regular support- but it is still an option). I would strongly consider the hours you may need tech support before buying this program. Also, really try out their soap template if your're considering paperless options.

Comments: Has the ability to easily integrate with a large array of services. Many services are also owned by McAllister software and designed to function together. Staff transition to its use easily and easy to operate paperless. Tech support well trained and accessible offering remote services and chat. Doesn't give complete financial report ability but was designed to integrate with an actual accounting program for financials.

Comments: I have used Avimark since 2003. We currently use the 2008 version. We are a wired network and still use paper system. We rarely buy the tech support. Last bought, you guessed it 2008. Our staff is very happy with it. But we are now wanting to go paperless. We also want to go wireless, with an ultra book, but heard of bad reviews on their wireless tech. We will see.

Pros: moderate ease off use.

Cons: Technical support is very expensive @ $1000+ per year. You will pay @ $5000 for this software and then you will keep on paying!!! After your initial free tech support (@90 days) runs out, you have to pay for tech support or else you will not get any help even with the most simple problem. We were not told that tech support was an ongoing expense..maybe we should have known that but we didn't. FYI

Overall: Find a software company that stands behind the product they put out there and want to see you understand and use the software to the fullest without an large ongoing expense.

*Extremely good support - short wait times, near instant responses to email support, long hours, knowledgeable long term support technicians. As a power user I correspond with support several times per week and am frequently impressed.
*Reporting and searching are amazing.
*Time card feature eliminates need for additional program
*Text Templating to speed entry of records
*Treatment groups and associations to avoid missed charges
*Very Easy backup & restore
*Allows multiple sites with shared or separate databases
*Powerful reminder system

Cons: *Works best on wired networks (though I utilize several wireless workstations)
*Has so many features it can take time to discover and use them all.
*User interface is easy to use but looks slightly dated
*Currently lacking in some policy enforcement options within the program

Overall: Our hospital uses AVImark for every aspect of our daily activity. We clock in mornings, review our appointment calendar, check-in patients and print necessary documents, and enter treatments, items, and charges. Our doctors enter all of their medical data into the program including diagnoses, problems, and notes. The program prints Client Ed information as needed. The clients check-out and are charged via AVImark. We make follow-up calls to every patient using the system in AVImark. At the end of the day I review the day's activity, compare the doctor's statistics using the program. Finally we use it to send reminders and statements to all of our clients.

Due to this extensive usage I am intimately familiar with the program, the support technicians, and all of it's features. All are top notch. I highly recommend AVImark to anyone who asks. The costs is very competitive, the support costs are very inexpensive, and the program is excellent.

Pros: Relatively inexpensive software system for veterinary use.

Cons: They have gone up, on their technical support pricing, every year by more that 10% since 2006. The cost for technical support last year was $950.00. This year, without notice, they sent me a bill for annual technical support for $1145.00. They sold out to Butlerthis year, and it would appear that they've decided to take advantage of the clients who have entrusted their operating systems to them.

Overall: Do not purchase. I am going to find a new operating system and switch.

Excellent Veterinary Management Software

Pros: Stable. Works well with or without using actual server software. Though MS Windows limits the number of terminals that can be active without running Windows Server. I believe that number is 7 but don't quote me.

Very flexible. Allows for complex management of Inventory and Treatment groups. User can custom configure many many options.

EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SUPPORT. Granted they do charge a fairly steep yearly maintenance fee (near $1,000/yr) but their staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Support is vital if your a new practice owner and want things to be able to work.

Reminder generation is easy, and very customizable. AVImark also integrates with a variety of 3rd part reminder companies if you don't want to stamp and mail your own. Also built in email reminders as well.

Not sure what original reviewer was referring to when she stated no variances allowed in estimates. Been using AVImark for over 10 years and for as long I can remember this is possible.

Cons: If you want to be completely paperless...AVImark isn't completely there yet from what I have read of hospitals that have tried it. It's workable, just not as refined as it could be. Again haven't tried it personally.

Email reminder system built into AVImark has limited reporting systems built into it. For example it won't print a report after of whom it just e-mailed. There are workarounds to this but AVImark needs to work on this.

Overall: Having used Impromed, Cornerstone and AVImark I prefer AVImark. Granted the versions of Impromed and Cornerstone I used were years ago and I can't comment on how far they have come. But we bought AVImark when it was the least used Practice Management Software on the market. In that time it has grown to be I believe the most widely used software. There are usually good reasons for such wide acceptance.

Jim, Thank you for your review! AVImark is installed at some clinics with over 100 workstations and each site license comes with unlimited work stations. As you mentioned, you do need a Windows Server Operating System if you plan on having a large number of workstations accessing AVImark (10 is the current limitation for Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Professional, and Windows 7 Professional.) Regarding paperless and emailing, we have many clinics utilizing both in their daily environment and provide enhancements with every release to further increase the capabilities and ease of use for both areas.

Pros: Good layout, organizes clinic information very well, lots of key tools to run a clinic smoothly. Technical support available when needed during clinic hours. Get updates once a year and easy to upload.

Cons: No variance for estimates, totals for estimates don't print, also estimate Tx and inventory items are not alphabatized when printed out. Linking inventory to Tx items need to have less steps. NO seminars in western Canada. Practice analysis has had the 'coming soon' message for inventory and service graphs for a long time. Avimark not available on Mac computers... Want to be able to move obselete inventory items under their own catergory and removed from active items. Some owners not that imaginative for pet names, please allow repeat of names for new pets.

Overall: Please take actions on noted concerns.

Melissa, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We do have a variance feature on estimates by pricing, amount, or percentage. One thing we are working towards is being able to vary the inventory dosage linked to the treatment on the estimate and have it adjust the variance amount on the estimate in addition to the methods that exist. You should be able to create a category for inventory's obsoletes and move the items to the category by dragging and dropping them.
