### "Truly, My Favorite Veterinary EMR Software Out There"

I always say using Avimark is as easy as riding a bike. You can switch softwares and come back to it and it still sticks. I used Avimark at my first clinic, switched to another clinic for a few years. My current hospital uses Avimark and its so easy to use.

Pros

Its easy to create electronic medical records, access the schedule, among many of its features. Whenever we have an issue- the support staff is always able to help us or answer questions immediately.

Cons

We do have some issues with Avimark dropping from our server. However, this does not happen often enough for us to have any major concerns.

Pros

Cons

Lack of a running total when building an invoice. We have to continually do trail posts to see where we are as compared to the treatment plan.

It was much more user friendly than Cornerstone. However, it was outdated. The icons were not self explanatory so it was constantly a search to find the right function.

Pros

Being able to search under “who got” to find patients we couldn’t remember the name or file information but we remembered what they went home with.

Cons

How the boarding schedule worked. The format was not very updated and when we did heavy amounts of boarding the schedule was a mess.

Overall I feel that Avimark is a great program. It's ease of use is good. Beginners can pick up the basics easily. There are a lot of things that the system can do that many are not aware of. The ease of integration from one program to Avimark was pretty seamless.

Pros

Easily teachable. Easy integration. User friendly.

Cons

Not as easy to get "New" features added when suggested. I would like to see the online academy become part of the program as "basic" meaning I think that you would have way more practices wanting to have the system if this was available as a no charge portion of the system. Practices are constantly adding more staff, and the cost associated with the academy are not very cost effective for a practice to have year round. If this price was embedded in the purchase price and maybe just a minimal annual fee would be much easier for practices to want to continue this service.

Reason for choosing Covetrus Avimark

I have worked at practices that have had both Cornerstone and Avimark. One practice started with Avimark and decided to change over to Cornerstone. This was a mistake in a very bad way. They essentially took a practice that was well balanced and working very efficiently on Avimark. They owned two additional practices that were on Cornerstone (and not functioning well) they wanted all the practices to communicate. They choose to change the only practice that was functioning well to convert over to Cornerstone, and it made a horrible mess. The current practice I am at started on Cornerstone under the old ownership. They were on it for 10+ years. During that time they could never understand the system well enough to utilize any of the features that it had, so there was virtually nothing used correctly. When I came aboard I made my argument to why we needed Avimark, and changed. My background is in inventory management. Avimark I feel is superior in this area. I have even shown the Technicians at Covertus things about the system that they did not know it could do.

I hate Cornerstone. This program was developed by persons with accounting backgrounds, not a veterinary background. I think that both things need to be taken into consideration. I think that Avimark is a better product because it takes into account more the veterinary aspects above the accounting. I do feel there is room for improvement, but that is so with any program.

Overall, I like Avimark much more than some of the other programs I've worked with. It also integrates with IDEXX and with Antech.

Pros

This program is very easy to convert to. My entire staff was able to function within a week of installing.

Cons

The inventory program is little limited compared to some other programs. Quantity discounts could use improvement.

### "Very customizable and user friendly - once you get past the learning curve!"

Overall it’s excellent. There are sometimes bugs with it (like suddenly not finding any pet named Bella, so you have to rebuild indexes) but for the most part, it works great. It is usually speedy, and it can do some really neat, helpful things.

Pros

All the information you need is in front of you - client, pet, reminders. And it is easy to make it do some really cool things, such as packages, creative reminders, documents attached to treatments or diagnoses, etc.

Cons

We switched to this software from Cornerstone, and that was one of the most difficult times in memory. I am very good with software, and it took me three weeks to feel comfortable with it. Some less proficient folks complained for more than a year! Six years later, and I still occasionally find things it will do that I didn’t know about.

Very easy to learn, simple yet functional, extremely customizable. I think this is the best veterinary software on the market. We are paper-light and utilize EMRs, which are very easy to use in Avimark. I will continue to use this program for the life of my practice.

Pros

I absolutely love Avimark for my veterinary clinic. I feel that a server-based system is more secure than a cloud-based system. I love the fact that once I purchase this system, I own the software and can continue to use it without paying a monthly fee other than for Avimark support. The customer support has always been absolutely phenomenal and efficient. The program has so many different customizable functions. I also love that when our internet goes out, I still have access to all of my medical records.

Cons

Every once in a while, there will be a glitch that occurs with an upgrade. I honestly think that's my only dislike.

It has been a very good fit for our practice overall, well worth the money, with great customer service for any problems that do arise. Allows for efficient and easy training for new staff.

Pros

It has been greatly utilized for scheduling and inventory management. Having the patient full records easily accessible makes knowing their history effortless.

Cons

Data analysis for specific things is a little complicated. It would be nice if we could do an easy search for all the customers phone number fields instead of just the main one.

I used Avimark for 9 years and would recommend to anyone. I have used other products and Avimark is what I liked most.

Pros

Easy to use and record management. Avimark has great features to train your new staff. Avimark is great to manage your pet hospital, you can customize it according to your needs. It makes it easy to track pet's records.

Cons

I don't think there is anything I would change about Avimark. I Everything was great, there are times it was a lack of training from our staff when we had issues.

It was a good product for awhile, but ultimately couldn’t compare to other cloud based PIMS as our practice grew.

Pros

I liked its simplicity the most although that’s one of the reasons we also made the switch to a more robust PIMS.

Cons

It did not have the vast options or integrations that other softwares had at the time. It wasn’t cloud based so it would take too long to restore and come back.

Can be slow, often when it updates we have issues with labs and error messages and have to call tech support for assistance

Fairly easy to use once understand hotkeys and familiarizing self with software. Everything listed or marked nicely for easy access Color coded so even those color-blind can still interpret the schedule

Cons

I would like to be able to upload multiple records at once instead of individually. Many times clients or other animal hospitals send various records, and we have to save them individually going through. Would be nice to just click multiple items and attach all at once. Especially with images

### "Software system that meets our needs"

We have only used Covetrus Avimark as our software system so I cannot compare it to any of the other systems. However, we are very pleased with the way Avimark has helped bring our practice into the 21st century in office efficiency. I only wish there were periodic email reminders, such as "Hey, have you tried this Hotkey/Shortcut idea?" I say this because I'm sure there are many additional helpful applications that we are not aware of nor even trying to use. This would be very helpful for not only any new clinics using Avimatk, but also, new hires having to learn the system already established.

Pros

Technical support is AMAZING! We are able to keep track of all clients and patients in an orderly manner.

Cons

Whenever we do an Avimark update, we have technical problems, our third parties have to update, and our IT person has to do a system reboot. It often times causes great problems, especially if it occurs over the weekend when no Avimark support is available for assistance.

Mostly positive. We've used Avimark since we first opened as a single DVM clinic in 1992. It's grown with us to now being a 6+ DVM practice that's very busy. I don't have experience with many other veterinary software systems but I do prefer it over the others I have seen and used.

Pros

Avimark has plenty of features for medical history and is pretty user friendly. Even new hires that never used any veterinary software before get the hang of it quickly. We love that we can now integrate payments using Vantiv, which has cut down on mistakes.

Cons

The reminder feature is a bit clunky. We've stopped using it in favor of PetDesk. Inability to email a rabies certificate from the patient chart is a pain. The worst thing though is now that we upgraded to the latest version, our system has slowed to a crawl and we've been told by Avimark support that they are still working on the issue. We're a busy multi DVM practice and waiting 120 seconds for a client's charges to post to their account is not helpful at all. I hope it will be fixed soon.

Pros

There is not much I like about Avimark as a PIMS in the clinic. It goes against most of my intuition when I'm using the software, and requires so much clicking and closing windows (why can't there be multiple windows accessed?!) to get simple information. Looking forward to use other add-ons to improve AVImark's faults.

Cons

Everything. It's not user friendly or obvious in its use. Appears and functions in a dated fashion.

Overall we have had a decent experience with AVImark. AVImark support has always been polite, though occasionally some have said certain things cannot be done that we are later told can be done from another team member. The staff are always polite though and we appreciate their assistance. The program, though it still has its faults, is user friendly and certainly has a lot of potential.

Pros

It is user friendly in most aspects compared to other software programs I have used in veterinary practices.

Cons

There are a few features that my staff and doctors over the years of using it have brought to my attention. One of the biggest issues is the medical condition and how it is viewed in the patient's chart. The fact that there isn't a way to easily view the doctors' notes from the most recent visits has led us to not yet convert to being paper lite. With paper records a doctor can quickly glance at the most recent notes from other doctors/themselves to familiarize themselves with a case. At this time in AVImark from what we can tell we have to manually find the line item where the medical condition is listed and then open that fully for each separate visit. If there was the option to have those notes be in read only view from the chronological page or a different page that would be extremely helpful. Additionally if there was a way to, from the software, submit a bug or error report. With the ability to include a screenshot or something similar this would be much more convenient than having to call in to the support desk each time. Lastly if there was a way to track changes made within AVImark to the calendar this would be incredibly helpful. Being able to look and see who moved an appointment, or where it was previously scheduled would be excellent for busy practices when there's a lot of people on the schedule at any given time.

### "22+ year user "

Over all I have been very happy with Avimark operation. I was an early user in the DOS days and have continued to recommend it to other practices. I am concerned with Avimarks long term survival because of the coding limitations and that Covetrus has other PMS that compete against it. I'm not sure that Covetrus gives Avimark needs a priority and we feel we've seen a decrease in levels of support when they took over.

Pros

Avimark has been one of the most user friendly PMS I've worked with (worked with four other platforms). The ability to merge info from the PMS to a MSWORD document makes it so that all of the documents we sent out look clean and well formatted. Having all the information on one display is nice. Ability to search for a service or product by enter parts of it in the description is a handy search feature. The information search has a significant learning curve but is a great tool once you know how to use it. Report features are great. There are almost too many security options but ability to create different authorized groups is handy. Being able to run it on any station and not require a new license for every station is great. The Sidekick feature looks great and was handy the couple times I worked with it. The options that the More Stuff fields give you for collecting and charting data is handy and make for clean looking records.

Cons

The difficulty for the program to evolve because of its coding is disappointing. It's network dependence and hiccups that happen on wifi is disappointing. Inability to attach documents other than doc files to treatments/inventory is less than ideal when many of the handouts we have are pdfs. With one of the most recent reminder upgrades the ability to modify them has been restricted.

We like using this software and recognize it is the best in the industry, however as the times change and the digital age is more prevalent, updates to the software for ease of use and utilization need to be made. We have looked to switching software, but others are worse. We would like to feel that this is the best option, not the best of the worst options.

Pros

Scheduling is intuitive. Reports for inventory as well as billing and invoicing make overall function of the hospital smooth. Support is FABULOUS and they are quick to respond and attempt to solve every problem quickly.

Cons

Search function is limited and often times, comes back with "No client/patient found" even if they do exist. Reminders are difficult to manage, get messed up frequently, and are impossible to stay on top of. Emails through Avimark to clients will not let you leave the screen and don't always post to the history. Emailing treatment plans is difficult. Recurring payment plans FREQUENTLY have errors or cannot be fixed if set up improperly. Need to be able to search ANY phone number on an account, not just primary. Reprinting receipts generate errors.

I was able to use Avimark the first week I was here, and I learn new features just about every week. I like the ease of use, the ease of learning new features, etc.

Pros

Ease of scheduling, changing appointments, updating patient and client demographics, adding patient and client information. The integration of payment information is also very helpful - this reduces keying errors when payments have to be input manually.

Cons

I did not find the Rapport integration helpful, and I would like to have more training on the inventory functions.

We have used Avimark for 15 years and it has grown to fit the needs of our growing practice. Technical support has helped us through glitches as we grew. I’ve used other softwares and will not change from Avimark.

Pros

The possibilities of how to use Avimark are endless. It is very intuitive to use. Most new users are using the program with ease within the same day. It is very reasonable in cost and has no limit to the number of users.

Cons

Unfortunately this software is not yet compatible with tablets and cannot be used in a wireless environment.

The Avimark customer support has been good to work with!

Pros

It is a great software that we've been using for over 20 years. I'm getting too old to learn anything new. I know we don't utilize all that's available through the program, but, for what we need, it does a great job!

Cons

Our DVM's write tickets throughout the month, and sometimes it's 2 weeks down the road. If other things have been entered on a client, especially payments, and we try to go back and enter a ticket and post it for date of service, SOMETIMES it jacks with our totals due, so we have to take everything out that we've entered for the month on that client, and re-enter it in date order, then it'll work.

Avimark works well for what we use it for, but there isn't much flexibility or adaption with it.

Pros

For an ER that uses Avimark mostly for charges and basic patient info, it works very well for us. I do feel like learning to do anything different or more advanced is very hard but the customer support is excellent. I also like how simple the billing/invoicing is.

Cons

Inventory management. It is very complex and not user friendly. I have been learning for the last 6 months to better understand it and I feel like I am barely scratching the surface. It also does not link with other programs, like smart flow, well.

Pros

Easy to schedule appointments and search in the medical history. Tabs are helpful to break down RX, labs, chorological history. You can adjust things fairly easily with help from the support line. They are always very friendly!

Cons

Some features are outdated, and updates are a nightmare and can shut the hospital down if it takes to long.
