Pros: What I like most about this software is the ease with which you can create maps or design final maps better known as layout. Unlike other similar software, Arcgis simplifies the process, in addition to providing aestheticity and harmony in the scale of colors and labeling of toponyms. In addition, the work with ArcGIS encourages the use of geographic databases (geodatabases) in the management of our data. With the way to create projects in arcgis, not only allows us to store the styles and properties applied to the layer in the project, but creates a geodatabase associated with it in which we can physically include the layers that we use as Feature Class. Although we can also add a previous geodatabase to the project, as it used to be done a long time ago.

Cons: Arcgis licenses are expensive. It was not always possible to count on the availability of ESRI products for acrgis. In addition, it is not very versatile in the consumption of data, that is, a different protocol must be applied to open each file according to its type. Likewise, with the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) services connection, it is necessary to download and install the Data Interoperability extension, unlike other softwares that this process refers to one clicks.

Overall: ArcGIS is a system with which people can work with on-line maps and related geographic information. With ArcGIS you can create many different types of maps. The most interesting of all are the interactive intelligent maps that show, integrate and synthesize complete layers of geographic and descriptive information of diverse origins. These ArcGIS maps provide an interactive window through which you can view, explore and analyze this information.

Pros: Built using standards such as COM, XML, and SQL, ArcGIS can be easily integrated with the structure of the information system and data of any organization or individual. Given that GIS extends to new applications and new user communities, ArcGIS also solves the challenges of offering and receiving data and related GIS services to users around the world. The versatility and easy to use allows ArcGIS to be used in a variety of areas: from land cadastre, geodesy, cartography, geography, and telecommunications, to geology, ecology, management of water resources and subsoil, oil and gas industry, and even remote sensing. Its technology of Geodatabase allows you to effectively store heterogeneous data and easily use them in complex projects and systems. In the geodatabase, users can define rules and relationships within the repository that define the behavior of spatially interconnected geographic (or geological) objects and object classes and ensure data integrity. With the help of ArcGIS it is possible to prepare qualitative cartographic products with all necessary elements of marginal design. Also, you can quickly create a realistic virtual 3D scene based on spatial data, using digital terrain models. With a lot of possibilities for processing of both raster and vector data, and its strong functions for map algebra, editing, and spatial analysis, together with the latest data models and control make the ArcGIS family of software products ones of the leaders among GIS software.

Cons: I have been using ArcGIS for almost 10 years and I can testify that this software is difficult to study, a very complex program for a simple user, the program is only for those who take the professional level, so, to exploit the full potential of ArcGIS (for example processing of multispectral and hyperspectral images, geostatistical studies and so on) you need to dedicate time, endless hours of study. Other con that I see, is the high price taking into account the purchase of any additional modules, it is a very expensive program, but, once and again, the potential is almost limitless once you get to dominate all its functionalities.

Pros: ArcGis has developed multiple tools, adapted to the requirements of the users, ranging from the capture of data by means of GPS, remote sensors to a simple load by address of the property, the ESRI developments go from the PC to the data management online through ArcGIS online.

The tools for calculating variables, buffer, interconnection, management of geographic projections, selection by attribute, by spatial location, inside or outside the defined polygon, pattern analysis, data conversion with other programs are CAD or GIS. Stresses the fact that the tools were designed with the collaboration of many scientists in the area of geo-statistics such as L. Anselin, P. Zandbergen, D Mcleod, among others.

ArcGIS presents the innovation of managing a compilation of data in Geodatabase, which facilitates the management of files, regardless of the raster or vector format, without corruption or loss of components that can alter the performance of the final display of .mxd files

ArcGIS online empowers researchers to share data through the ESRI data server, sharing cartographic databases that, in some places in the world where the culture of geographic data is deficient, are therefore highly needed.

The design of maps is ArcGIs is very simple with the tools of workflow by means of modelBuilder and the handling of the Layout and the ways of making thematic maps and 3D representations is amazing.

Cons: ArcGIS only works on the Windows system, it is a proprietary software in which you must cancel the license according to the requirements that the project requires, the company or institution where you work, it can be expensive or very expensive if you choose to have all the software extensions . It has a free trial version for 30 days. You need a high performance team for the management of powerful databases, the manipulation of 3D data or satellite images processed in this environment. Its strength is the handling of vector data, the modules for the plot data do not present a wide development

Overall: With ArcGIS I have worked in multiple academic and work exercises, calculating risk indices for loads in the hydrographic basins, housing in inadequate areas, public services coverage in small population centers.

I have built models to perform analyzes in several areas simultaneously, saving money and time. we have saved on editing and publication of thematic maps.

we built more than 100 geodatabase which has guaranteed the maintenance of consolidated databases, which we have shared with other planner users of the worked areas.

In particular it is the best vector software with which I have worked

Pros: We are in front of the best GIS in the market ARCgis do anything you want to do in special analysis. With this software you can build maps, editaed, analyze raster data, make models, 3d models, terrain models, simulations, Geodesign, and so many other things. This software has incorporated the biggest data of datum and coordinates system of the world, you can virtually use ARCgis in any part of the world, and with great precision. Since the version 9.3 ESRI has incorporated the Imagery tool, that it is a layer that with internet connection allows you to have satellite images of any location of the world, it is very useful to analyze change in the enviroment and urbanization changes. ARCgis has everything, virtually everything that a people who work with maps needs, does not have comparison.

Cons: The main limitation of ARCgis it is the cost, it is a very expensive software that a little company or businees cannot afford. This a very useful tool but the cost does not allows to some people uses their potential for the spatial analysis. In some countries they offer educational licenses who help the students to know the software and work with some tools, this can be palliative for all that people who wants to work with the software but cannot afford.

Pros: I like it because it helps me to develop the planning activities of the approach of the territory I require for the fulfillment of my work functions.

ArcGIS helps me to visualize, manage, edit, calculate, analyze entities and georeferenced attributes of the financed projects of a productive nature in my work.

Another aspect that I like about ArcGis is the use of the ArcCatalog, which allows to search and make effective operations, facilitating the link with Servers of databases, GIS Servers, database, WMS servers, and Internet and intranet connection.

I find it easy to use, it has an excellent interface and multiple geoprocessing tools. I like the presentation of the cartography.

Cons: I do not like it to be a software with high costs. On the other hand, it requires a computer with a very high installed capacity to execute the tools in an easy way.

In the area of authematic cartography, I believe that the options to work with greater ease should be strengthened with graphics to represent the variables of the maps.

I am worried that the program with the updates demands greater requirements of the computer where it is installed, so that all the tools work optimally, which can generate incomplimiento of the work delay before the delay of the run of the information.

the fact that it requires constant investments to enhance computers requires that the company must continually invest resources, being in some cases impossible, as it can harm the performance of the organization.

Overall:

Is a program that has been very useful for the administration and planning of geographical and spatial problems in the process of georeferencing the projects financed in the 8 years of development of the organization.

georeferencing the territory of each project helps us make decisions adjusted to the dynamics of the territory. each of the actions that the organization applies uses arcgis to approach the territory.

Pros: The styling guides are better than any other options out there - once you can learn to navigate the byzantine menus. I've used QGIS, Globalmapper, AutoCad, and Microstation, and maps just look better in ArcMap than in any others -it's made for creating display mapping. I know that there are other programmatic things you can do, but for my workflow, I use it almost exclusively for building maps for display.

Cons: The menus are silly that you have to go that far down a rabbit hole, processing is a nightmare (especially with messy geometry), and I used to (until I quit trying altogether) find myself trying a processing task in ArcMap, watching it fail, and then trying it again in GlobalMapper/QGIS and it would do fine. Processing is a very weak point in ArcMap, at least from my perspective.

Overall: It makes the start of very pretty maps, sometimes. I almost always generate base layers here, and then export them into illustrator/photoshop to do actual final renders.

Pros: Is the program of daily use to perform the spatialization of the different variables with which I work daily, allows me to vectorize, generate base and thematic maps, associate databases with different vector elements either points, polygons or lines. Generate soil profiles, determination of topography. Account as a wide range of tools that facilitate the work of location, location and geographical elements. The outputs can be digital or paper.

Cons: It requires constant updating of the program because otherwise some tools start to generate conflict. It is a program with high costs. New users must go through training processes since understanding the program is not so simple, if you have never had interaction with them.

Overall: Is the most complete geographic information system, since it allows you to work from the process of vectorization, creation of databases and the realization of high-quality map products

Pros: This GIS offers everthing that a professional that works with spatyal data needs, enormous amount of tool, a very complete interphase, the possibility to manage big amounts of spatyal data, a quality of image and video very high, and a ArcTool Box with everything you need to analyze spatyal information, The three moduls are awesome: ArcMap, ArcCatalog and ArcScene are the best in the market and everyone meets it porpuse. This is the best software in the world.

Cons: The cost is and had always been the highest limitation of ArcGIS is too expensive for individuals and small companies, so only the goverments or big companies can afford to pay for the license of this awesome software.

Overall: Analyze spatyal data, satellite images, manage tables with spatyal information, edit shapefiles, make hydrology models and so on.

Pros: The ability to do hardcore spatial data analysis relatively easily is a huge benefit. Being able to produce high quality maps is great for my work as an urban planner. The functionality is seemingly endless and as a avid user for the past 5 years, there are still aspects of GIS that I have yet to learn. Finally, the ability to export maps to other formats is very helpful from a graphic design standpoint and allows me to modify the maps in graphic focused software to further enhance the look.

Cons: This software is very advanced and can take a long time to learn. Casual users may have trouble learning how to use the software because of how complicated it is. The graphic outputs are not as visually appealing as they could be and additional work or rendering is needed to really make them stand out, which requires additional software.

Overall: I use ArcGIS on a weekly basis as an urban planning consultant to graphically show and analyze data, including demographic trends, transportation modeling scenarios, employment trends, and basic area mapping. Without ArcGIS, my job would be much more difficult and it would be much harder to display spatial data for the deliverables we create.

Pros: It provides an extensive possibility of resources for the spatial analysis of data. With this tool you can create, consult and analyze in a very easy way your data in the territory, combining layers easy and fast and obtain new information from that data. Amazing compatibility with most used formats and the best for analyse interpolation of data values in the space

Cons: Maybe the license, ArcGIS forces you to connect to a license to perform certain geoprocessing operations. Therefore, although it has a good geoprocessing framework, solid and broad, its license level determines which tools can be used in this tool

Overall: An indispensable tool to work every day in my business, helping to manage all my spatial information quickly and easily for all my employees..

Pros: ArcGIS has a lot of tools to do enviromental analysis that increase the precision and details of this can of studies, you can analyze satellite images, manage spatyal data in shapefiles about vegetation, fire, crops, desertefication processes and so on. You can also use hydrology analysis to know the level of degration of a watershed, and manage 3D models for a better exposition of your investigation.

Cons: The price is the greatest limitation of ArcGIS, because the license is so expensive and every modul is sell separately, that is a big limitation for people who wants to use another moduls and only can use the basic one because of the price.

Overall: Analyze enviromental data in multiple scales and mak studies with precision and detail.

Pros: Arcgis is a very powerful mapping tool, through it we can create an entire infrastructure for the management of maps, pointing objects within them, manipulate and / or customize them, you can perform data analysis of the present information in the maps. If you want to go further and create an application that feeds or uses the map, it is possible to do this through the SDK, with which you can manipulate the information and process the data for its use, for example dotting clients, dotting oil wells, etc, any object that is useful for the end user, There is an online version, which presents several benefits for the creation of maps as well as sharing the same.

Cons: The version that is installed on the servers requires an infrastructure that is robust and large enough to support the processing of the same. It requires acquiring some technical skills to be able to administer the platform

Overall:

For a client, an application was developed that allowed the use of the map to point customers and with this information it could be analyzed and be able to make strategic decisions, through the maps you can know quantities of specific customers in a certain area, if they are clients. that have the same characteristics, typify them by themes, etc.

Pros: 1) The graphical interface of ArcGis is easy to use. 2) I like labelling tool called "The Maplex Label Engine", provides best options for labelling. 3) It has the ability to make very nice looking map products, has unmatched cartographic output. 4) ArcGIS can work with CAD data, KML files for Google Earth and other data sources, great!

Cons: 1) The costs of this software are enormous for the initial purchase price and the subsequent yearly fees for the product. 2) It can be very slow. It takes a few minutes to open and uses a lot of RAM. 3) Limited options for incorporating graphics into maps

Cons: I've been using Arcgis for years. It's gone from BAD to WORSE. Probably the slowest, buggiest, most unreliable piece of software out there. What other software locks itself out of it's own maps? Corrupts it's own shapefiles? Takes 10's of minutes to open a single tiny map? etc.

Arcgis is like playing a bad round of golf everyday. Yeah there are a few moments that play out ok, but most of the time you'll be cursing at the monitor and wondering how this company is still in business.

Overall: Other people use it, so I have to.

Seriously, this software will turn your hair grey.

Pros: ArcGIS has the major quantity of tool to analyze spatyal data, the software incorporate more than about a hundred tools to analyze data, this can be shapefiles, raster files, radar files, CAD files, and so many others formats that you need or use to do spatyal analysis, another incredible features are the extension like Geowizard where you can modellings through statistical methods the spatyal data and see how it their behavior in an specific place. ArcGIS content tool for all professional who works with spatyal information.

Cons: The price, ArcGIS is a very expensive software not the most of little companies or entrepreneurs have the capacity to pay for it and apply for their work. It is shame because this software has everything you need to analyze and work with spatyal data no matter your profession.

Overall: ArcGIS brings us the opportunity to make maps where we localized the theaters of the city and know the capacity and measure the access through streets, with all this data we can make a tour for people of the city to know every theater and enjoy of the cultural offer of the city.

Pros: You can perform complex analysis very simply and and create replicable analyses, create complex cartographic designs, and interact with cloud hosted data all within the same platform. In this regard, it is an extremely powerful tool.

Cons: ArcGIS 10.x has been out for nearly 8 years now, yet it is still extremely buggy and can be prone to crashing. ESRI is working towards releasing ArcGIS Pro, which is a completely rebuilt version of ArcGIS, but it is not currently as full-featured as ArcMap.

Pros: The versatility of ArcGIS is incredible. In my day-to-day work, I use GIS to create anything from basic tag maps to sediment concentration interpolations that help inform remedial designs.

Cons: Depending on server speed, computer processing, and amount of data in your map, ArcGIS can certainly get bogged down and can become frustrating to navigate.

Overall: There is so much that the software can do that it really has become an essential tool for me. I have overall been very pleased with the features and capabilities of ArcGIS. I am constantly learning new ways to use GIS!

Pros: I particularly work a lot with hurricanes, which are phenomena that move through different time zones, which implies that they must necessarily be introduced in a georeferencing program, in geographic coordinates.

That would not be possible in programs such as autocad.

Similar situation applies to different meteorological variables.

The layer structure also makes it easier to appreciate the characteristics of the maps according to what is required, and to place labels or other characteristics for each level.

Cons: The interpolation functions and tools it offers could be improved. Undoubtedly, the more real data you have, the better, but the mathematical functions and interpolation methods that are currently available can be expanded and improved, and equally, the ones that are currently available could be explained in much more detail so that the user can know in more detail, what to expect when using one method or another.

Overall: The ArcGIS Geostatistics tools can not be compared. They are not only functional, but educational.

I recently did my promotion job at the university. It dealt with the analysis of all trajectories of hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean from 1851 to the present, and after defining a domain of general calculation, going to study a particular cell of the domain, which was of my interest.

Without this tool it would simply have been impossible, not only to load the data, but to do all the subsequent analyzes.

Pros: I am able to pull any data I need as long as I have it in there. Good Data in, Good Data Out. As long as I added the correct data to the system I can manipulate it and format it any way i desire.

Cons: You need a pretty beefy system to run the software. This has been my only complaint. The Rendering time for the amount of roads I deal with is pretty extensive when I am on a system that is low on resources.

Pros: The software allows for quick and easy input of different mapping objectives, such as an as-built survey of existing drainage or sewer infrastructure. This allows provides a clear map whether to use in the field to review existing conditions or in the office to create conceptual plans for proposed work. The software also allows our organization to create quick maps for project scoping, grant applications, and public meetings to aid in illustrating existing conditions and proposed improvements.

Cons: Some features are not always intuitive and full use of the software requires class study, reading, and years of experience. While I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing it limits how easily someone new to the software will be able to access and process available information.

Pros: All the tools and platforms that has, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS online and Armap, these allow me to get all my jobs done in plenty of ways and without any trouble.

Cons: The only bad thing is the high price of the software that for people like me hat lives in countries with restrictions to dollar access is pretty difficult and pricy.

Overall: I'm a geographer so ArcGIS has helped me with my school projects and with my career in many ways, without these maybe my life would be so easy.

Pros: I like that I can do nearly anything I'd like to do with this software from minimal viewing to mass editing and geoprocessing quickly and efficiently.

Cons: I don't like the p[ay structure for the 'named user' model that is being implemented. I think there should be a free named user and a pool of concurrent licenses that can be used at any given time by certain users.

Overall: I'm able to do my job much more efficiently using this suite of products

Cons: The software is a little pricy, but I can accept this with the functionality that is provided to the user.

Overall: The world leader in GIS Software....there's almost nothing this software can't accomplish for you. It has become a very stable platform.

Pros: ArcGIS is the best tool for all the people who works with cartography and spatyal data, all the features that you need are in ArcGIS, if you looking for edition of shapefiles, visualizing raster data, modelling in 3D, or you just want to apply some statistical method to spatyal data, ArcGIS is the software that you need. The numbers of tool of the software are endless and each adjust to the user needs.

Cons: The price is and always had been the great limitation of this software, this a software that a small company does not allows, and this can be bad for people who wants to improve their business with this great tool but does not have the money to pay for the license.

Overall: ArcGIS has help us to make the planning of routes of our trucks, reducing the costs and getting a better return of invesment in our sells, we do all this combining a great amount of spatyal data with terrain models and transportation times, and of course using a big set of tool of Arc Tool Box.

Pros: There is so much functionality built into different geoprocessing tools that you can customize your spatial analysis to complete basically any task and solve any spatial challenge. I like that you there is the opportunity to use scripts and tools that other users have built in the software and overcome challenges that may not be solved using the standard geoprocessing tools.

Cons: Due to the enormous amount of analysis capabilities, there is a steep learning curve that one must overcome to use the software to its fullest capability. If you're looking for something to do basic spatial analysis, this is likely not the tool you should use as it's expensive and has more functionality than the average person needs.

Overall: Learned about Spatial Analysis and how it affects the city building and planning process.

Cons: To be honest the only thing that I like the least about Arcgis is the price.

Pros: I love that this software is brilliantly created with built-in features and tools that bring every project (simple and complex) and vision to life and exceeds my personal expectations. As a water resource engineer, it has proved extremely helpful in my organisation in the planning of projects. It handles massive amounts of data and it can bring to life the most complex designs and layouts.

Cons: From my experience, Arcgis does not intergrate very well with other softwares like EPANET or Autocad and transferring or moving layouts, designs or maps to and from can prove problematic and difficult especially for a person without much experience for instance when you want to manipulate a water network layout further on hydraulic software like EPANET.

Arcgis software is also quite expensive .

Pros: First of all Esri, has a long experience accumulated over 40 years in the market, allowing you to establish a solid and provide solutions to its users. It is worth mentioning the wide range of online data available to ARCGIS online.

Cons: At this point, I must refer to the constant updating of the software, which rebounds into costs for users and sometimes limits its funcionality.

Overall: Because the geodatabase works in a DBMS mechanism (Database Management System), it greatly facilitated multi-user editing so that the same data could be accessed at the same time.

In addition, It was possible to store data of vector type, raster, CAD, tables, digital terrain models and networks, without the introduction of erroneous and / or incongruent data, as well as applying default values and domains to the fields of the entities according to the subtype to which they belong.

Pros: I like most is the ability of this software to connect to database servers that allows to have actualized information of an studio area. We can focus objectives by preparing entities and giving them attributes to make advance calculations about population or services. All this information is displayed in the final layout to be exported as a map, in a pdf format or an image. It covers every part of a project.

Cons: I like least is the requirements of the software to run in the computer and the RAM memory it needs to use. In addition, the price of the software isn't affordable to a small business like us. Some times the computer that uses ArcGIS, can't operate with any other software, limiting the capability of the office.

Overall: We work every day with the software and we found out that to prepare Araya's Mayor Office Land Use for the municipality it's very important tool, because we can arrange several types of use of the land and propose new types of uses for an established areas.

Pros: It is a very popular and well-known software for GIS people. It is well-known software for data processing. It has many components and features for different purposes. One of them is the watershed delineation which I think is very effective. It calculates the surrounding watershed area for nearby rivers.

Other features like Model builder in which I can create my own program and run it. Basically, it's like writing a code within ArcGIS.

Plus, it is also good for image processing for remote sensing.

Cons: May look complicated in the beginning. Takes time to learn since it has so many different features. Sometimes crashes and can be very frustrating to work with.

Sometimes difficult to find the correct options since they are so many.

Overall: I used it to create a map locating all the earthquake locations within a region for my research.

Plus, It was within my course curriculum.

Pros: I've used arcgis for georreferencing during a project in which we constructed several logistics bases for supplying spare parts to oil and gas drills, and it was really easy to use because of it's accessible and user friendly workspace. We created a base map and the needed variables for a very dynamic map, and the best part was that updating it took almost no time.

Cons: Using arcgis at first can ve really overwhelming as it is not easy, you need to spend a lot of time learning it but since there are lots of tutorials online it is not that big of an issue.

Overall: I really recommend arcgis, it is a really complete geographic information system, which can be expensive and difficult at first, but using it can be really rewarding.
