Pros: Easy to manage and excellent ecosystem of tightly integrated complimentary products as well as VARs who can support and enhance our usage. Licensing is straightforward and with the ROBO licensing we are able to run vSphere in all of our remote office without a huge price tag.

Cons: The web-based management portal is noticeably slower than the older traditional client and while I understand the desire on VMware's part to not have to support and maintain another piece of software, I am disappointed by the speed of the current offering.

Pros: VSphere is a fantastic virtualization platform that is worth the cost. The clustering aspects prevented downtime for our clients on more than one occasion. We moved from Hyper-V years ago and haven't looked back!

Cons: The cost is high as it is with any industry leading software company. Training is certainly required to get the most out of this product as well.

Overall: High availability. Better control over our entire datacenter. Better options for recovery and maintenance.

The best virtualization platform out there.

Pros: A complete offering. Feature rich. Works very well with minimal complex setup. Can be configured for maximum performance with some bit of tweaking of hardware and software. Compatible with the widest number of guest operating systems. New HTML5 web interface is accessible from mobile devices.

Cons: Can be very complex in larger configurations. More feature rich editions are quite expensive. You can be nickel and dimed to death with addons. May require outside resources to setup correctly for maximum performance depending on your environment.

Overall: Turns just a few physical servers into Hundreds of Virtual servers. The ROI is amazing.

Pros: I like that I am able to keep separate environments up and running and accessible from my single machine. It is also useful to be able to copy and paste between VM and my local machine.

Cons: Generally, this software works really well. Every once in a while it does not respond well when something is hanging with the VM. In those cases an administrator must step in and restart the VM. However, it does not happen too often.

Pros: Allows logging into a Windows VM from a Mac in a smart card required environment. The performance is speedy.

Cons: Frequently when the Windows VM screenlocks (goes to sleep) you can't unlock it. Quitting the VM and logging back in is the workaround. On Mac 10.12 Sierra and later, you must disable Apple's CryptoTokenKit, because Horizon will not work with it enabled. Which means pairing your smart card using Apple's native protocol (as opposed to using a third-party solution) is not possible.

Overall: Ability to run a Windows VM in a smart card required environment is essential and VMware Horizon is the only solution available so far.

Pros: works cross platform. easy to configure and deploy. small foot print. very stable and works very well in conjunction with other VMware products.

Cons: User interface can be a little more colorful and appealing. Client version updates can be a little more frequent.

Overall: With VMWare virtualization of servers and PCs, this is a no-brainer to use on the client-side. It's usually part of the VMWare V center licensing.

My law firm has had VMWare Horizon for a few years. It takes a while to get used to.

Pros: The benefits outweigh the negatives. For remote access, it is an absolute must. The screen is supposed to appear as if you are sitting at your desk in your office. Once installed on a company laptop, all you need is internet access. Any of our employees can log in and work on any given application, including email and document management.

Cons: Some icons / images may appear distorted. And there may be connectivity challenges. There is lag time during usage but, overall, it is not too slow. The better the internet connection, the better the usage.

Pros: Availability more than anything else. Also that its run well on the weakest of my hardware.
The upside is if you have robust hardware it runs like a champ. Ive been able to give people desktops with significantly more power than a laptop while on vacation.

Cons: Resource intensive. VDI is numbers game and View Horizons is a by the numbers product. Either you have the IOPS, CPU, RAM or you don't.

Overall: More than anything remote user access with the same desktop they have in house.

Pros: Intregration with other products we already use. Didn't have to go to the trouble of finding drivers or work around.

Cons: Not always straighter forward. Would need further assistance from outside sources in order to get some items to work like you had thought.

Comments: I love the fact that Horizon allows you to connect to a virtual machine for the business that allows you to share hardware, doesn't take up a lot of space on the computer and uses resources efficiently. The program is lightweight and for the most part, the connection is stable.

Pros: Easy to use.

Cons: Doesn't allow for RDP protocol in the iOS version.

Overall: We use the Horizon app on all of our iPads to let our associates connect to a VM so they can use a Windows only software that we have. This allows them to use that software without having to sit down at a traditional Windows desktop. It also allows them to connect from home or on the go without having to use VPNs. It's a very convenient piece of software!
