They can't do enough for you Pros Its robust and structured , like the error checking feature. Love the 24hr help. The code set sets, cash flow scenarios and code flow is critical for the estimating that I do as Its required for commercial / financial reporting. With out this, wouldn't be using expert estimator. These features could be integrated a bit better Cons The online help would be so much better if you had permanent access to those modules that come with the course. Been given a 100days is a bit mean. Difficult to review with others who are not users. Fix the error in the code flow. sometimes when running the report, it doesn't report total costs. The work around is save a new copy and reopen. Its quite dangerous if you are not aware of this happening Some the of the icons used and mouse over descriptions aren't that intuitive Code set sets, cash flow scenarios and code flow could be integrated a bit better as they are used together to produce the forecast There is an issue with the sort feature in the cost allocations when trying to find unallocated codes With some smarts you could combine the group resources with the matrix function . For example you could build up a group resource and apply the attributes within the group resource rather than nominating a cost template to the matrix. It helps to standardised the calculation process and estimating procedure. Pros I classified EE as a user friendly software considering I learnt the software from zero without any formal training before. The online tutorial and youtube video guided me to the correct path. Later the formal training enchanced my understanding of how the software works conceptually. Cons At the moment there is some limitation while working with large matrix calculation. Matrix calculation is the most common tools I use and keen to get a smooth flow calculation running. Having worked on the client side as an Expert Independent Estimator working collaboratively with both Tier 1 & Tier 2 construction companies who all use different applications, I honestly believe that Expert Estimation is one of the most powerful Estimating Software Packages on the market with the best service and support. Pros The ability to estimate costs by numerous methods allowing the Estimator to quickly estimate the costs of their projects and incorporation of the construction program to produce powerful expense and revenue cashflows. Cons I have no major negatives for the software, however there are a few simple changes that would increase the autonomy for the Estimator. Proficiency in this software also comes up as a requirement in a lot of job posts for estimating roles so I can't imagine I'll be back to using just spreadsheets again. Pros What I like most about Expert Estimation is its ability to bring structure and first-principles logic to cost estimating. Once you’ve built your template and code sets properly, you can break down costs at a granular level and roll them up cleanly for reporting — all while maintaining traceability. The flexibility around resource libraries, cost codes, and estimate linking allows for true scalability across tenders. It’s an ideal platform. Way better than just using Excel - by orders of magnitude Cons The UI can feel a bit clunky at first, and the learning curve is real if you want to fully leverage the system. That said, once you’ve put in the hours to understand how everything connects, it becomes a serious competitive advantage. I’d like to see deeper integrations with MS Power BI and MS Project in future updates. An upgrade for it to become fully cloud-native would be awesome as well. When reviewing estimates on-screen with clients, they have been impressed with the level of transparency and reporting available with the click of a mouse. Highly recommended. Pros Expert Estimation Genesis is an easy to use multi-user application with good security controls and an intuitive, clean user interface. It can be used for all disciplines and it's about as flexible as you can get when setting up your projects. The availability of an undo button and the ability to make save points at various stages of the estimate development is very useful, as is the automatic save and backup features so you never lose your work. It is supported by superior training modules and knowledgebase as well as 24/7 support. Cons The application seemed to be a little sluggish with some of the monster size projects (say >20k line schedules) but performance improves with each application update so it's important to keep up to date. Generally there is little not to like about the software. If you hit a stumbling block, call the team and they usually solve most issues during the phone call. Estimating Manager Construction Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Expert Estimation" May 25, 2023 4.0 Pros The formula cell implementation ignores plain text strings allowing estimators to write descriptions and units inside the formula which provides context to calculations and is an excellent feature.Simultaneous working within a project is a great feature and works flawlessly.Managing margin, overheads, risk, and spreading works well.The ability to build a library of rates and the Group Resource features are excellent. Cons Expert Estimation has a confusing set of keyboard shortcuts. Rather than mirroring the typical shortcuts and formulas most would be accustomed to in other programs (eg Microsoft and particularly Microsoft Excel), Expert estimation has used it's own set despite the overall similarity to MS Excel in terms of layout. This adds relearning requirements when training on Expert and slows down the work speed. In addition some formulas are cumbersome and could be shortened, eg "#LQ" is probably the most used function when estimating.The direct cost schedule formula cell does not allow for references to other lines as is possible within the cost estimates themselves. Where possible, Expert Estimation uses universal shortcuts that match other applications such as MS Excel etc. such as Copy (Ctrl+C) Paste (Ctrl+V) Undo (Ctrl+Z) Redo (Ctrl+Y). Users can also set their own shortcut keys for different functions and formula using the common phrases feature. Pros The Genesis version is much more user friendly than the earlier 2014 version and provides a number of options to enable estimates to be customised to suit each requirement. The Pronamics team has worked hard to get this newer version to match and now surpass the 2014 version in features and usability. Cons When used by multiple users simultaneously accessing one file at once, it does manifest stability issues at times which greatly disrupts team productivity.
