Designer Automotive Used the software for: 2+ years ### "KeyCreator Review" July 6, 2019 4.0 OK mostly, but sometimes frustrating. Pros Ease of use. Ability to import many cad formats. Cons Every update seems to have more bugs. Past few years support not very helpful. I contact them with issues and have to badger them to see if they are working on them. Tool Room Manager Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Used the software for: 2+ years ### "User Friendly" July 3, 2019 5.0 I've had a great experience with KeyCreator before we had it I was drawing by hand and had to stop because on time constraints so I would just draw notes on notepads for a while to save time then we got KeyCreator and once I learned the software I was drawing complete drawings in a fraction of the time ! Pros Easy to use , I have used other programs in the past and my favorite is KeyCreator ! everything is easy to find and easy to use ! Cons the thing that I like the least about the software is pretty-much the same with most other programs and that is the extra charge for a second seat, I understand the reasoning behind it and to some extent I actually do agree but a second seat should be free and then charge for more after that ! Retired Education Management Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Strong teaching tool" November 9, 2018 4.0 Started with Cadkey 1.49 I think, taught KeyCreator through version 12. Its a great tool, but got to be harder to teach. A scaled down version for introductory classes, with steps to work up to a full blown version would be an improvement in my opinion. Taught Pre Engineering classes for 39 years, and Cadkey / KeyCreator for about 20 years to Juniors and seniors in high school. Pros The Old menu driven system was a great system for teaching. It reinforced terms of geometry and helped in problem solving at the student level. All the new icon driven systems are great for the experienced Engineer, but are overkill and discouraging for the beginning students. Icon driven systems can become a video game where students can make all kinds of neat objects without understanding the geometry behind them. Cons My least favorite part is when a new edition is released, and all of the icons have been changed and its like starting over with lesson plans and handouts. Review Source JK John K. Pros Very flexible direct solid modeling. Easy to make and modify rather complex shapes. Cons I miss the finite element analysis that used to be offered with KeyCreator. It was fast, accurate, and easy to use. Reason for choosing KeyCreator Stayed with KeyCreator after trying and seeing other products like Soldworks that seemed very klunky. Review Source KE Ken E. The cost value is important a very robust package for the money. Pros It is a designers software, very friendly to use. Designs are easy to change and revise, you just get started and alter as you go. The training tools help to understand the feature, the better you know the software feature the more productive you will be. Cons Exporting to other CAD softwares and have them functional. Like exporting to Solidworks and have the design alterable in Solidworks. The sheet metal functions are difficult for me to use, but maybe that is do to lack of training. Review Source JH Justin H. Senior Design Engineer Oil & Energy Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Powerful Software for the Price" February 5, 2019 4.0 Pros \-It is easy to just do a layout without defining constraints and other parametric requirements -For the investment, the software is extremely capable -The direct modeling approach is well implemented, as long as that is what you are looking for (see cons) Cons \-Legacy data migration is poor, at best. I have been using the software (or its predecessor) for many years and, consequently, have a lot of old models and drawings. They are often in need of extensive repair. As a matter of fact, I have often found that old Autocad drawings import better than some old Cadkey prints. -Direct modeling. It may be odd that I listed it as both a pro AND a con, but that is the reality. Direct modeling has its place in manufacturing but so does parametric modeling. Depending on your application, direct modeling is either great or it is not. Review Source JW Johann W. Pros I like the way your program thinks, if you will, in my opinion it is more intuitive than most other CAD programs. I like that I can open just about any drawing, but lately I have had a problem opening some new .DWG files. Cons 1) When an issue arises the pop up dialogue is usually useless and gives you no idea or direction of what is wrong. 2) Dimension Driven Editing should work on 2D as well as 3D. 3) Sometimes when I dimension a part, the dimension has only one extension line, and I have no idea how to fix it. 4) The program could be more stable, there have been times while making changes to a drawing that I have had to close and reopen the drawing before continuing with the edit. After nearly 30 years of CAD, almost all of it on KeyCreator and it's predecessors I can't really imagine myself using anything else. Pros Feature driven editing without a cumbersome history tree. Cons It is not the most expensive product, but it's also not the cheapest.
