I was able to learn a lot of the basics using the tutorials embedded in the software itself. There was some need to look outside of AnyLogic for help, but most of the tools and information are described clearly within AnyLogic. I would definitely recommend AnyLogic for Agent Based Modeling for any type of school or work situation. Pros Lots of software tutorials within the software itself. Detailed step-by-step examples. Runs super clean and fast on modern computers. Lots of options to model out problems and projects for a Master's class on Modeling and Simulation. Cons There is a learning curve to those unfamiliar with modeling and the menu system. I have been using AnyLogic for the past half year now and it has been incredibly easy for me to do my work. I use AnyLogic for simulation modeling and I find the software very diverse and easily applicable to any business problem. Cons The only drawback about AnyLogic I have is the decently high learning curve. AnyLogic takes a bit of time to learn to use to its maximum capacity but once you have an understanding, you can do virtually anything with the software. Review Source NI Nuchjarin I. It's very easy to use and there are several material available to guide us how to use the models. The software is very flexible and make us build a simulation very fast. Many sample models. Great features and animation. Pros The software is very easy to use and great interface. It provides many functions and features that neccesary to simulate discrete event models, agent-based model, system dynamic models. Animation and 3D view are easy to create and adjust. The software compatible with both Windows and MacOS. Cons Problems with Java is difficult to trace. Sometimes the program crashed or froze. The limitation is only in your mind. I can literally simulate, calculate, animate, optimize anything I want as long as I know how to breakdown my problem into small pieces. From optimizing a manufacturing process, creating a production plan, calculating cost per part considering real world scenario on professional side to making a romantic simulation for my gf on our anniversary and simulating the number of people and the arrangements needed at an Indian wedding on a personal side(500-600 people at least). Cons The learning path of the software is tough. It took me considerable amount of time and headache to learn the basics, but when I mastered the basics, i was in love with the software. Pros Ease of use, relatively simple to combine different modelling methods, database integration, editable (XML) model files, constant expansion of libraries. Cons Speed of execution (changing the JRE helps - I've seen a 40% speed increase when replacing stock JRE with the latest Sun JRE - but may impact compatibility), does not utilize more than one CPU core per simulation experiment, version 8+ does not allow disabling of animation (to speed up execution). Well, the creation of a model is and will be crucial for it, but from a presentation ankle the feature is very supportive. Moreover, all of the possible nodes that can be part of an model is almost endless, which allows users to go into more details when creating the abstraction of a real-time system. Overall, the structure and contents are good. Cons The software is packed with tons of features and tools, which however lead to longer computation times, depending on the CPU used, and errors, occasionally. I got the feeling that it is becoming user-friendly step-by-step, but the documentation in general and/or of nodes, tools, and so on is still long. The software gives users tons many possibilities to create models, but they will still have to learn the general model process and about the individual nodes and tools, using the library or the addressed documentation. Pros It is a powerful modeling tool with many advanced features. Free training is available from AnyLogic web site that will get you familiar with the product quickly. Very flexible and full featured for many use cases. Software is very stable. Cons There really isn't much that I need that it can't do. It is slow on a low powered machine, but that is understandable given the complexity. It runs in 12GB RAM, but 16 or more is better. " November 22, 2020 4.0 I had to simulate an urban mobility environment to optimize location allocation of facilities in a custom evolutionary algorithm experiment. Although it took some time to get to know the software (on my own) it was finally achieved. Pros There is a way to get things done however hard your problem may be. Thanks to its java support and vast library of in built functions. Agent based simulation felt most intuitive and easy to implement in this software compared to others. Support is truly delightful and quick, as long as the questions to the support are clear and short. Anylogic offers great database support to implement large systems with ease. Cons The real flexibility of using this software comes only with the professional edition, although I could get my work done (with some back and forth to support) with the university researcher license. Offline routing cache is one thing I found missing in 8.6.0, but heard its going to be there in the next version, so not much complaints there. Anylogic performs well in integraring not only multimethod modelling i.e. ABM, DES, SD, but also with GIS which is awesome! Pros Easy to use, fast to learn, considerably UX friendly for newbie, and very well integration when combining ABM, DES, SD all at once. It also has lot potential for combine with AI and creating Digital Twin Cons I had compatibility issue in my previous project. Once you work with certain version of AnyLogic, it will be considerably hard to open your saved project when using Newer version. Compatibility issue sometimes happened but not often. With AnyLogic's multi simulation paradigm framework a user can implement system dynamics, process-centric modeling (Discrete event) as well as agent-based modeling techniques all in one model AnyLogic is unbelievably flexible and with Java as a backend, there is nothing you can not do. AnyLogic is also at the forefront of new development in the simulation space. Always reinventing their product and offering and leading the simulation world into new technologies like cloud based simulations . Cons Like anything worth doing it requires some effort to master the basics of the software. Pros The user interface of the software was the first thing that drew me to it, along with the ease of use and lack of strong java programmaing requirements. It stood above the competition as it was the software that presented the information in the best way. I am impressed by the vast libraries the software has for different functionalities and the applications these have between themselves. Using the software for my research project has been a pleasure. Cons I dislike the slow zoom function in the model window, when the model is running it can be laborious to locate the zoom in the control panel - especially when working with a larger scale model.
