I deviated from continuing with the software. Pros Actually there was nothing I seemed to like about AnyLogic. Maybe it's because I did not give myself time to learn it. Cons Actually, I tried using AnyLogic but seemed not to be user friendly. I had tried using online learning videos but only a few were very good. Everyday a phone call and an email for a help. This is really welcoming to the new software Cons I used the free trial, I understand with the limited functionality but the free version is pretty slow compared to the full package. Pros Ability to combine system dynamics, agent based modeling and discrete event simulation. The animations and integration with external applications is also seamless. It also comes with a very capable demo version. Cons The help functionality could be improved. It was difficult to find information online, although public forums were helpful. July 19, 2023 5.0 Pros Simulation tools are always a learning curve, however, it was a relatively easy tool to learn with many informative tutorial videos. These simulations were completely applicable to any real-life scenario. Cons I wouldn't necessarily say this is a bad thing, but there were definitely many components to the software that could make it confusing. Pros The clear example models and help guidelines are valuable for introducing new users to the system and even serve as functional training tools for organized learning. Menus are clear and easy to follow and system functionalities are well explained (including mouse-over text, which is often overlooked in a system UI). Cons Some basic features are randomly buried in the software, including time unit interval settings and similar basic things that might not be changed often by base users but do become more important for complex models. Also task panes and windows pop up randomly and do not always behave properly, necessitating a reboot on (admittedly) rare occasions. Review Source Abolfazl S. PhD Candidate Transportation/Trucking/Railroad Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Excellent software to pick up and play" March 25, 2019 4.0 Pros The ease of picking up the software, from little Java knowledge the library drag-and-drop like functionality made creation of my first road network simple, to then develop it further and add in the use of more complication Java functions and variables. This simplicity of picking up and playing didn't limit the depth to which I could then explore the software though, as it caters to a much more expert field beyond this initial stage. Cons Using the road transport library, the option is available to switch traffic to use the left hand side of the road as in countries such as the UK, but the road laws don't translate. I was unable to find a simple option for this either. To give an example the use of junctions like a roundabout, the priority for left hand side road driving (UK) is to yield/give way to the right, but the in-built behaviours from right hand side road driving is to yield the other way. This results in both a model of lower validity, but also some peculiar behaviours of congestion on junctions like roundabouts. Having learnt it for one school project, I found that finding online resources and how-to's was pretty simple, and the features worked like I intuitively thought that they would. Cons As far as I could find there was no way to work simultaneously on a project in Anylogic. This might have been a feature that could be cool to have. Working on each our model still worked pretty okay, copy-pasting subprocesses from one to the other. Ability to draw logic structures (actionchart) Cons Compared to other discrete events simulation softwares, not easy to obtain statistical metrics (confidence intervals) of usual simulation indicators. NO MONTECARLO IN PLE (it's absolute useless to take a decision with only one datum in a stochastic process) Nor capability of significant statistical parameters of long run simulations.
