Pros It works as it is supposed to, but my most liked feature is the customer service. The app/tool can be great 99% of the time, but that one time you need help, you want that support ASAP, and Aweber delivers this in spades. Cons The recent cost increase. Even though it was the first major increase in a very, very long time, still, anytime you have to rework your budget to keep the tools you have used as much as Aweber, it is a hassle. But, without the increase in cost, how can we, as customers, expect Aweber to keep up with technology with their spending? Publisher Publishing Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "A Little Too Much for a Lot Too Little" December 30, 2024 3.0 I joined AWeber on the advice of more than a few people in my circles, with the strongest accolade being about the superb customer support. Indeed, the service and support were, for the most part, excellent. They have good people at AWeber. My stay with AWeber lasted until recently (December 2024) when they decided to increase their prices while not really updating their services. The services at AWeber are at this point more than a touch behind other email service providers. The WYSIWYG email builder is wonky; the form generator is ancient; the templates are at are best not-bad and at worst atrocious; and the overall interface is lagging behind other companies, especially at the new price point. So, this combined with the new pricing made me look elsewhere -- and, believe me, I am glad that I did, because I found a couple other companies that are much better. One aspect of AWeber that was fantastic was their allowance of using multiple lists. That made sending emails for different businesses easy. But there is one down note about their customer service: when I emailed them about the massive price increase as well as a tacked-on fee, the response was what one would best call "glib." In their email they asserted how infrequently they increase prices and that what they're offering is more than worth the money and that if I wanted to decrease my costs all I had to do was delete some contacts and . . . You get the idea. It was the tone of the email, though, that made it somewhat condescending. AWeber overall is a good company, which is fine. The problem is that we're in a world in which a company has to be better than good. AWeber stumbled at this and didn't make my job easier. I wish them well, though I am happy they forced me to look elsewhere because I definitely found better -- and at a much lower price point. Pros AWeber is known for its fantastic customer service and support -- and deservedly so. The service and support personnel at AWeber are second-to-none: they are quick, knowledgable, open, and personable. Cons The issue that made me leave AWeber was primarily pricing, although to state that it was pricing alone would be incorrect. It would be correctly stated as well as be what I disliked most about AWeber was the price-to-quality ratio. Simply put, they decided to charge too much for too little. Pros ease of use and ability to upload subscribers, create lists and automations as well as send bulk emails Cons they have double charged on a few occasions, although customer service is good and have refunded. We move one of our companies off Aweber owning to lack of eCommerce integration (they say they have it but its basic using tags and some idea of overall sale value, but its not a full integration like say ActiveCampaign). The automation builder lacks branching/conditional logic. So if you don't need those things its a good starting point - allthough like many other providers they did double the price on us this year. Pros Good basic feature set, Fairly easy to use, proactively tries to limit spam sign ups. Reasonable support. Cons Lack of ecommerce integration, lack of sophistication in automation builder. I like how you don’t have to have people opt in to get them on your email list and rather customize it there. I liked that it would integrate with a lot of software. Cons I think the price compared to how many people you can have in the campaign isn’t very good. It’s too high for what you get. The problem I encountered was when transferring an email list over from another provider. Not everyone clicked the link to resubscribe and I lost thousands from their software. I couldn't send them another email from there. I understand the requirement to resubscribe but this was an existing list from another provider. I also lost clients and friends from my list who were confused as to why they no longer received emails. They had to go to my website and sign up again. I couldn't contact others to do the same - because I couldn't email them! Years of building a list was gone. Pros Aweber is straightforward and has a good interface and a no-nonsense approach to email marketing. Their pricing is fair and you pay more as your list grows giving you the chance to get started without an inflated cost. Cons I found them to be really restrictive with my email list and I lost a lot of subscribers. I'm still not sure I will stay with them longterm. Pros Aweber has stood the test of time. It is easy to get set up and get going. I like that it is stable, and it is always encouraging to me when I see that very successful people whose emails I let into my inbox are using Aweber. Their customer service was very helpful to me when I was getting my account set up and had questions on a few things. Cons I do not care for their boring confirmation messages, and the fact that if I want something that is different, I have to get approval from them before I can use it. I also saw a huge flaw when I participated in a promotional event with several others who also use Aweber. Apparently, when somone signs up for several email lists that are all hosted on Aweber, in a short space of time, Aweber sees that behavior as "spammy" and automatically unsubscribes that person from all the lists he/she subscribed to. Their argument is that it protects Aweber customers and it protects their system overall. The problem is that it is unsubscribing people who actually want to receive these emails and if you are delivering a product by email, or even giiving information by email on how the new subscriber can receive that product, then the subscriber will never get that email. When I contacted Aweber about this twice, the support staff was very blasé about this. One support staff member was good enough to remove the block and resubscribe the persons who had been removed so they subscriber could get the emails. Another refused to do so, and said that the subscriber would have to contact them to remove the block. How many people are actually going to take this extra step to receive emails??? It's inexpensive and includes a landing page builder. The program gives you the option of allowing people to subscribe to your email list via single or double opt-in. Aweber has several integrations with reliable third-party tools and apps. All of their email templates are mobile-friendly. Cons There are less expensive choices available that offer significantly more capabilities in the marketing automation field. Also, while sending an e-newsletter, you can't include or exclude several segments. The RSS to email templates are inadequate, and they aren't editable with Aweber's regular drag-and-drop email builder. They keep adding new features (like landing page builder, but they are completely ignoring the fact that their ecom features & deep integrations are basically non-existent. Aweber is fine for a simple weekly newsletter, but when it comes to deep integrations with ecom they are stuck in the past (such as syncing with Shopify and allowing triggers based on the customer journey). Everything is well-organized (lists, subscribers, tags...) and you can quickly have your email list ready to accept subscribers. I found other autoresponders or email marketing tools either too complicated or lacking features. AWeber keeps it easy for beginners and has quite some advanced features for the professional email marketer. It also has many integrations with other tools, which is good for the professionals. It's also not as expensive as some others in the marketing space. Pros I love all the features that allow for segmenting and tagging of contacts. Aweber helps keep contacts from different opt-in forms together which allows for emailing what is appropriate for each contact. Pros I liked that it was a low annual fee for my needs. I liked that they were pretty good at following trends, like customizing user experience for my email members. Cons Honestly, I really did enjoy using this service, my business needs just grew and it didn't grow along with it fast enough for me. It was pretty hard to get everything I needed to communicate across my multiple platforms, so I eventually moved to an all-in-one platform to make my business life much easier.
