Creator/ Owner Newspapers Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Really bad platform" July 15, 2018 2.0 I did not get many benefits and had a bad experience overall - i no longer care this happened months ago I am over it but since I am writing a review on software i have used, I would advise all honestly to stay away as my story seems far from unique and had other bad experiences which i don't have time to list - MailChimp is a pretty good alternative if you are checking out ESPs Pros It is relatively easy to use its not hard to figure out for most beginners and has basic templates and campaigns which should Cons Stay away! Their RSS campaign did not send out for a while and then on its own sent out 6 emails at once really pissing off our readers they offered us a discount of 30% if we signed a two year contract after I said it was an inexcusable mistake which cost me hundreds of dollars in unsubscribes and possibly thousands and pissed off my entire email list. 30% off their inflated high price which they had just boosted was not worth it - i have heard many experts and users tell me of Aweber nightmare stories since my experience. I like how you can turn the double-opt-in ON or OFF for lists based on how you want things to work. Also, it doesn't cost much which makes it a good option when you are just starting with email marketing in your business. Cons It is a good software for email marketing in the initial phase of any business that uses email marketing, but as the business grows, it becomes harder to manage contacts & email marketing in Aweber. September 25, 2019 5.0 Whenever I've had a question and called Aweber they have been absolutely WONDERFUL with explaining things, walking me through my challenges, and helping answer my questions. Sometimes they've even fixed things for me. Their customer service is stellar and their product is DEPENDABLE. They must have an amazing team because the product and the customer service have never let me down over the 9 years that I've been with them. Pros I wasn't very technical, but Aweber still made it easy to succeed at newsletters and broadcasts. My first newsletter went out to less than 20 people, but Aweber helped me look like a pro. I LOVED the email collection options. I found the perfect sign-up forms and they are both still adding names to my email list. One form is in the right-hand column of my website (on every page). The other form is a hover light box that shows up on select pages exactly when I choose. It's amazing! The editor works great and the fact that I can copy a previous broadcast email and reinvent it simplifies my life. Cons I'm not a techie, so I haven't explored this software a lot. I guess the part that I like the least is the fact that there are so MANY options! Split-tests, analytics, parsing...make my head spin, so I tend to ignore those options. Reason for choosing AWeber At that time (9 years ago) there weren't as many options. Aweber had the BEST reputation and the BEST email sign-up options for me. Their prices were competitive and they came highly recommended from people I respect. The more I wanted to do, the fewer options because available not making this a suitable option for me. Overall, my experience with AWeber was less than stellar and I had to drop it for a better solution. Pros AWeber is good for maintaining a customer list and sending campaigns. It also provides the capability to use a single list among a couple websites with some integration and upgrades. Overall, I would consider it an entry-level list management option. Cons AWeber lacks the capability to integrate multiple website data seamlessly without some third-party apps. Not being able to maintain a single list among my three websites was a definite downside to continuing using the software. The form builder and landing pages were difficult and cumbersome to configure, setup and integrate. The RSS options was clunky and the templates were lacking any customization. Plus, the templates library makes the whole email or email campaign process so much faster – and I love that! Cons On the one hand, simplicity and ease of use are key. On the other hand, however, Aweber's simplicity also represents a limit if you'd like to do more advanced stuff. I only stopped because the cost was getting too much as my contacts increased and I really didn't feel it was worth it any longer. Pros If there is one thing Aweber is good at, it is in getting your sent mails to the inbox of your contacts. There are lots of custom templates that can be used for sending newsletters. The autoresponder is easy to set up and there are lead capture pages you can use to build your list if you do not have alternative software for creating funnels or landing pages. It also allows for list segmentation and the reporting for mails sent out is also comprehensive and can help you out when doing cleaning up your contacts or doing list segmentation. Support is also good and prompt Cons Importing a list can really become a hassle on Aweber and if not done right can get your account shut down fast. It's possible I could have benefited more by using their tutorials and calling support. It has collected subscribers easily for me and it's been effortless in maintaining them over the years. I haven't used any other programs and have considered switching recently, but I'm not sure if I would be able to transfer my subscriber information easily. Pros I started using AWeber to college subscribers to my college prep mailing list. They offered an affordable way to college email subscribers and sell my college product. Once subscribers are collected you can create email marketing campaigns using newsletters. It also allows you to manage your subscribers and determine which emails are effective. Cons From the beginning, it was a bit difficult to navigate the program. I have had problems with their templates and understanding how to use them. I also was not happy with the increase in cost from $19 to $29 when my subscribers reached a certain threshold. While it was great for my friend with a larger business, it was too simultaneously too much and not enough for my microbusiness Pros It offered a functional email marketing service that complied with the Can-Spam act Cons It was not intuitive to use and because I'm such a small business, I had the smallest/cheapest plan which gave me less functionality. I couldn't store images or create templates with my plan, which meant I had to recreate the wheel every time I sent an email. They have consistently updated it over the last decade to be a really solid competitor in the autoresponder/email marketing field. Pros I love that it doesn't charge extra for subscribers for the plan that we are on. It is also incredible competitive in its pricing compared to Mailchimp which does much of the same things. Love that they also added in tagging options. Cons I honestly don't really have any dislikes of the platform. It integrates well with what we use and we have no complaints. They have top-notch customer service that is really helpful and they really care. And it shows because they actually offer phone support, something so few marketing software companies actually do. Aweber has a ton of features and their pricing is excellent for what you get. It is also super easy to use and to set up and overall it is designed in a really intuitive way. Cons It could have better reporting features and a nicer interface, but neither of those are big issues. It is only something you find out after you sign up that you don't get everything you thought you were paying for. They also only give you three separate mailing lists unless you want to pay more, then you get only five, which was not enough for my needs. It's a pain to put lists from different sites into the same mailing list as it causes confusion and problems. Their customer service is also subpar and takes a long time to respond. And their policies clearly work against the customer. Hidden charges end up showing up here and there and you end up getting ripped off. Pros Amazing support, I did a side by side comparison customer support test for 5 other vendors and they responded the most thoroughly and the fastest. The API is thorough and haven't had any issues. Interface just works. It has all the stuff you need. The unlimited email sends for pricing is great, most vendors charge you for emails after a certain point. Cons The templates were a bit confusing, wish it had an advanced mode for interface with more bells and whistles so you don't have to use API to make anything advanced. Review Source Guillermo H.
