David, thank you so much for leaving your review! It's so encouraging to hear that your church is taking advantage of the software. One of the most exciting things we see is the success and growth of churches when using the fullness of the software and implementing great process. While it can seem daunting at first (many reviewers talk about complexity), taking the time to learn and incorporate the software is always time well spent. We know it can be hard to do this when weekly commitments never seem to end, but we commend your hard work. (We re-recorded all of our "support/help" training videos this year if anyone else wants a jump-start!) David, if you are not, make sure you subscribed to our product update blog. We're releasing enhancements and new products all of the time. ;) All God's best, -- Michael Rowe Brand Experience www.churchcommunitybuilder.com

Pros: I like the ease of inputting member data. This could be a very useful program if it was more userfriendly.

Cons: Not user friendly w/most of the software. And poor customer support. Have to pay for personal training, or wait a couple of days after submitting a support ticket to get answers and the answers aren't always the most helpful, and then you start the support ticket all over again. For the cost, they should provide personal support.

Overall: Not much. The usability of the check in for kids is low when you need the Dymo printer to print. The printer will print when not connected to Church Community Builder. There are many improvements that should be made; 1. Free personal support and more user friendly when it comes to processes and queues.

Overall, we have had a great experience with CCB. We continue to expand how we use it in ministry.

Pros: CCB is web-based therefore it is easily accessed from office, home or anywhere.
There is a small group app that is great for group leaders to make contacts, take attendance, etc.
You can schedule weekly or monthly reports that are sent to your or someone else's email.
The Metrics tool is fantastic.
Default privacy settings can be set pretty tight, but individuals can chose what they want others to see or not see on their profiles.
Sending mail merges or messages is very easy to do.
If someone is logged in, their contact information will auto-fill on forms they are filling out.
There are great help videos & articles by subject that explain how to use the system.
The software has improved over the last 4 years and continues to improve with releases of periodic updates, enhancements and fixes.

Cons: CCB is very complex and can overwhelm some people, especially when setting up queries to find the right people for a saved search.
Forms have to match to records (understandable) but it can take a lot of time for something like VBS which may have hundreds of forms to match to records.
Addresses do not CASS certify so there can be misspellings or incomplete addresses in your data.
It can be hard to get your church on board to use the system, even leadership. Change can always be difficult.
You can't sign up an entire family on a single form. Forms need to be filled out for each individual so it matches to their personal record.

Overall: This software is geared toward church or ministry use. It has been great for searching our database to find individuals who are serving or not, who are connected in a community group or not, or who have not attended recently for follow-up, etc. You can customize many fields to help the software suit your specific reporting needs. Individuals can log in and update their profile, find a group, find a place to serve, give a contribution or register for an upcoming event.

Pros: Cloud based Profile , Financial Management and Calendar have been very helpful in congregational management.

Cons: Software still has user learning issues for new users. We also don't like how the communications settings are opt in rather than opt out. Getting users to understand and change communication settings is cumbersome.

Overall: Great cloud church management system

Pros: This tool has been so helpful for communicating to groups, keeping track of newcomers and much more.

Cons: We really would love an easier way to make email communications look nicer and friendlier. They are quite limited in overall layout.

Overall: Better way to keep track of the whole congregation.
Child check-in is amazing.
Needs are a wonderful way to get people to sign up to help out in different ways.
Communicating to groups is easy and valuable.

Pros: Church Community Builder is web-based. No need for a dedicated server. The organization behind Church Community Builder does really seem to care about the success and growth of your church.

Cons: Very expensive and costs increase exponentially as you grow. Reporting is lacking in the software. Ideally Church Community Builder should integrate with a powerful, yet easy-to-use, report writer software. Does not integrate well with certain label printers.

Pros: This is a GREAT software to use for groups. We use it for our prayer ministry and it ensures that we can keep everyone up to date with needs, form teams, share materials, etc.

Cons: While it is intuitive, your groups will take some time to set up. Have yourself well organized in advanced with rosters, etc., so that you can properly enter information. For some of your senior members, you ma want to consider having a training.

Overall: Quick, easy and seamless communication.

Pros: integration of donate and give into software, forms, used for registering for events, community login, group interaction, ease of searching and advanced search criteria, ability to build depth with number of fields, process queues, texting, schedules, positions, needs, invitations

Cons: Ability to report on people split out by attendance to a class level or group level. The need for special version of Firefox to get name tags at check-in to print correctly.

Overall: Individuals can update their own profile, group leaders can take attendance electronically, ease of managing contributions, efficiency in reporting and collecting data.

There are check-in reports that can be accessed from a manned station where you see attendance for each group/event and service times. Just turn on the reports tab within your check-in set up and you will have access to wonderful reports! Have a wonderful week, Pam Flanery

Pros: That you could use check-in in different forms. The barcode scanner option was very convenient and helpful. Also the functions of forms was helpful.

Cons: It was not very customizable in look or in use (forms, services, teams, etc). Also the format was not attractive - dull, plain, and boxy.

Overall: It helped us get kids checked in and keep track of our teams. It also functioned as our staff calendar that we could follow and run events through.

Pros: CCB is a beefy, feature-rich software that allows you to do almost everything that you might want to, from an administrative perspective, for your church.

Cons: The main problem with this software is that while many updates are released, it feels like a software that has been piled up for a long time rather than thoughtfully integrated. As a result even the simplest tasks are often convoluted, taking triple the number of mouse clicks than they should.

Just one example: editing profiles is cumbersome, finding information about a person requires multiple clicks through their profile information, and adding people requires a process that is more than simply filling out a simple page (you have to create a person, then find that person again from the list, then click into their profile, click to edit their password, and click "send password reset email" in order for them to receive a welcome email).

Their sales page looks fantastic, and the software at least LOOKS good when you log in, but whenever you try to do something basic, while it's definitely possible, the whole time you're trying to do something you're left thinking "should it be this complicated"?

Probably our biggest disappointment is that congregational engagement, which was a huge sales point, is virtually nonexistent. Because people cannot find other people and communicate easily (because it is cumbersome) with other people, they never log in to use the software. Even our leaders with full permissions would rather copy/paste email addresses into their own email software and communicate via email (or text message) than use this as a communication tool.

Pros: There's a lot to do with CCB. Our primary use is for room reservation and volunteer tracking. Reserving rooms and resources is easy, and takes very few steps. It takes a lot to keep track of all the volunteers our church has, and CCB puts them all in one location. We can send out emails to groups, respond to forms instantaneously, and schedule volunteers for duties. Like I said, there is a lot to do on CCB.

Cons: With there being lots to do, there's a lot to learn. Adequate training is difficult to come by in my organization, most of mine has been playing around with CCB to figure things out. At times it can be slow, and we've found that some of our administrators have lost information over time.

Overall: We get to keep 99% of our information in one central location. It helps us keep track of people and events. We use it constantly, and will be for the foreseeable future.

Pros: integrations with other online tools, customer service has been extremely helpful, updates seem to address areas of need, number of tools available

Cons: cost is high compared to some offerings, but value is high as well. Oftentimes we have to change our internal systems because of the limitations of the tools available (I would imagine this is common for every system that isn't custom though).

Overall: Our church has been a user for about 3 years now, and we like this product for the most part. We find that it works well with most of the systems that we had set up long before purchasing, and we would definitely choose CCB again if given the option. I wouldn't recommend this to churches just looking to save contact information, but I would highly recommend it to churches looking to further engage the members of their churches through the various tools that it offers. One nice feature of CCB is all of the preferred partners with whom they work. They allow users to use other programs and tools for the church that integrate with CCB. We have partnered with several of them (like Aware3 and Protectmyministry) in order to increase our administrative efficiency for things like background checks and apps.

Comments: With today's dynamic congregations it is essential that we have a strong tool to support our ministries. We have now had almost 17,000 people pass through our system. CCB has given us a resource to ensure that we are in constant contact with our church family. It also provides us a fantastic resource for managing givings, volunteers, building use, and staff.

CCB is a key part of our volunteer recruitment and screening process. It is the backbone of our care ministry. And, their support network is amazing! I can always get the help I need to navigate issues.

Pros: Database
Church directory
Volunteer scheduling

Cons: Mobile-friendliness

Overall: We've used CCB for a couple of years now. Some of the basic processes work great - church directory, finding emails and phone numbers and addresses, etc. Also works great for tracking tithing and giving, as well as letting users print their own year-end-giving tax receipts. For us, it put multiple databases all in one place so that all our members user information is always up to date.

The scheduling system is handy. The recent improvements of allowing members to respond to an invitation via text is a huge improvement. Also, the recent relationship with PushPay and eChurch apps is a nice partnering. Now our attendees and give electronically in the services using our church app, and their giving is automatically recording in CCB. This has allowed us to cater to the next gen that doesn't carry cash or checks and still allow them to be able to give.

Compared to worshipplanningcenter.com, there are some features still lacking but they are continually making improvements. The site itself isn't completely mobile-friendly yet (forms being the most frustrating feature), but as a church we are very happy with the system.

Pros: Easy to connect with church community, tithing online, emailing specific groups, finds volunteers

Cons: Not intuitive

Overall: I love that CCB works at different capacities. I've used it on a very general basis (mostly just as a way to tithe) and in a more comprehensive way (to communicate with groups within the church, find volunteers, and create a profile for myself and family). It works great at any level! To be able to do all of that online is such a big deal these days!
Our church has a designated staff person that helps manage CCB and helps others use it - this is great since there are a lot of ways to use CCB that are a little hard to figure out without guidance.

Cons: CCB is very selective. They want to partner with churches, but only ones whose vision will fit the kind of ministry they have built CCB to support. They are not snobs by any stretch, but they take a few conversations to make sure you are a fit for each other.

Overall: CCB is a terrific platform with intuitive controls and a wide range of possibilities. With settings and controls on just about everything, you can customize CCB to fit your church's needs. However, the process of getting on board with them is a bit intensive.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's a great investment for any church, but it's intensive. Have the first few conversations to see if the fit is there first, then see if the other details fall into place.

Comments: This software was used by my church as a platform to connect the whole group. It was useful as a mass-email or bulletin platform, but came up short in the arena of personal communication. Any time I sent a private message, the only way to track that communication was sending a copy to my personal email address. The lack of message consolidation made tracking down notes or correspondence difficult.

Pros: It is church focused and let's you be able to collate information and put people in process queues for follow up.

Cons: Just overall, this is a pretty basic CRM. As your church grows you may well outgrow this CRM.

Overall: I use this software as a volunteer in church. It's cute, but there are some headaches. It's VERY limited in its ability to generate reports. For example, we have a team of elders who pray over prayer requests and praise reports weekly. My team collects the requests and compiles them in a MS Word document. We would LOVE to be able to add the prayers to each person's record and then run a report for new prayers added that week, but its impossible because you can't run a report with notes in them.

Also, the scheduling of volunteers is a nightmare! It's hard to schedule my team for shifts and I have a small team of only 13 people.

Hi Cassandra, Thank you for taking the time to provide a review. Good news, we have just release an incredible update to our volunteer schedule; you can check out all the new updates here: https://www.churchcommunitybuilder.com/software-news Also, you can access people's notes within seconds through the Individual Notes option under People Reports, you can also export these notes to Excel as well if you wish! The leadership of your church would need to provide you with Admin Privileges in order for you to run this report if you do not see this option. We agree with you; our Process Queues allow church leaders to follow up with individuals to make an eternal impact on their lives...it's a powerful tool that our church partners say they cannot do ministry as effectively without! Have a wonderful week!

Pros: Lots of features and options

Cons: Not very mobile friendly

Overall: Decent software but with new UI friendly options coming out CCB has some catching up to do. They don't have any kind of app or mobile friendly solution and everything that is decent can only be accessed in the highest tier. They do a great job of updating regularly though.

Recommendations to other buyers: Lots of newer options to compare to for less of the cost. They need to catch up to the new mobile friendly options.

Pros: There is nothing I like about this software except that has a nicer user interface. In simple terms, it's pretty.

Cons: Customer Service! When you submit a 'ticket' their usual response is "that's a great question".... really? that is no way answers my question. Ease of use is terrible. Other than our staff, I would estimate that only 15-20% of our church congregation uses this on their own. Updates = many many software problems. Every time they do an update to fix issues in the software they add nearly as many glitches back into the system. Server space & speed is extremely poor. When adding rooms to an event, it takes almost 30 minutes for the servers to respond to your request. In the mean time you can not do anything else in CCB except wait for the spinning wheel of death to go away. This greatly effects the efficiency of our team, but their response was that they have more important things to work, so this fix will not happen for some time.

Recommendations to other buyers: Look at other software options. Planning center has new stuff out. Maybe in a year.... or two, CCB will finally get their act together and have a product worth paying for.

Pros: Brings many components of the church operations together in one place. Customer support is very responsive and timely.

Cons: Cannot accommodate debit payments or set-up automatic bank withdrawals with Canadian banks. VERY steep learning curve -- many of our "older" church staff have simply given up. Sending emails to the PARENTS of the children in our program requires learning how to use a "mail merge" instead of just an easy click to select to email the parents. This has caused many of our volunteer teachers and program leaders to just opt out of using CCB and, instead, create their own email lists. Mastering process queues is particularly difficult.

Recommendations to other buyers: Beware if you are a Canadian Church -- they aren't quite ready for us yet.

Pros: CCB has a variety of uses for our church. It is user-friendly, easy to navigate and comprehensive in terms of what it provides.

Cons: Reports can be tricky to navigate and, while CCB allows you to automate many of your common processes so that information is tracked and stored correctly, creating the process queues can be confusion.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure you know what you are getting - there are just a few packages that provide similar services, and each has different quirks and strengths. It is not a one-size fits everybody!

Pros: The ease of conversion and setup
24/7 individual member access to their own information and to groups that they belong to
On-line registration, check-in, and payments
Simple, easy online forms generation and publication
Supports mass mailings through a fairly robust mail-merge feature

Cons: Some functions within the system are still maturing (e.g. While the forms and mail-merge preparation support limited graphics, they cannot compete with specialized tools such as Constant Contact, etc.)

Overall: We had used Shelby Systems (in-house server based) for almost 15 years. We had a few long term employees who could get information from Shelby. We knew we needed a new, more user-friendly approach that allowed every member to interact with their own data, their group data, and their own giving information. We chose CCB and it has turned out the be the Best Thing That Ever Happened To Us.

Recommendations to other buyers: When you start up, we definitely recommend investing in coaching. It is money well spent.

Overall: I have had nothing but a great experience with CCB. They are quick to help us with questions or issues and are always looking for ways to better the software platform.

Comments: We have cycled through multiple database solutions over the last 10 years, but CCB has set a record by being our solution of choice for the last 6 of those years. Ease of use, great report writing and data mining, amazing customer service, and great value for the dollar have headlined our reasons for continuing to be a very satisfied customer. We have 5 campuses, so the multi-site functionality is also helpful. Almost every desire by our staff to go "off the grid" and use another type of software for their particular function (facilities, events, etc.) ends up being met by CCB plus a little education on our part about what CCB is capable of - there is still a lot we haven't discovered yet, but CCB stands at the ready to help us take our next steps whenever we say go. We are happy CCB customers!

Comments: We are a church that has a K-12 school, creative arts studio, cafe, and our structure is small groups. We are preparing to open another campus. CCB is the tool that keeps us in sync, allows the focus to be on people and relationships, but keeps the data and processes we need to ensure things don't get missed.
Staff use CCB for givings, calendars, communications, scheduling, attendance, resource/room booking, forms for registrations, processes, database and reporting, etc.
Volunteer leaders also use it for group communication, attendance, consolidation process, etc.
And many in the congregation use it for community communications, subscription to personal calendars, registrations for events, etc.
We have been using it since 2009.
We love the many options and flexibility that allows us to "do church" how we feel called to. Because it seems like an extension of what we do and they see value of what it will do for them, most use it.
CCB staff are really very supportive. When I have a question or think there may be a glitch/bug (often it is me!) submitting a help request is always a positive experience. You quickly get back great suggestions or assurance it is being passed on to a higher level. I also learn almost daily something from the great community of other churches using this tool from the forum where they share best practices, tips/tricks.
CCB is responsive to feature suggestions/requests. There is continual improvements and new releases are an exciting time for us.
So, with all this love, why only 4 stars?
First, we are a Canadian church so have not found a perfect solution yet to fully integrate our online giving and form payments. We also have to do a little extra work to produce CRA approved charitable giving receipts. The financial aspect is complex and I know there is continued work by CCB to find partners that may make this more possible.
The second is that a small portion of our volunteer schedules (worship team and media team) have now moved to a different tool that allowed them to more easily view who was scheduled on their mobile devices and combined with making our service plans more accessible. I was sad when that transition took place but I also understand not one tool can be the best at every area ... but CCB has taken the prize for us in everything else -- and I am confident will continue to build and improve even further what is an amazing tool.

Comments: We have used other software (like Fellowship One) in the past and have found CCB to be a really strong software. There are certain functions/features that don't work as well as they could in our context. Also there are bugs from time to time. But what we love about CCB is how incredibly responsible and thorough their Care Team is. Also we are very impressed by the development cycle speed and how the organization listens to suggestions from the churches and implements them. It is not a perfect product but we are confident is the best we could find to suit our needs!

Comments: Church Community Builder was a game changer for our church. They exist to help strengthen the church and give tools to help us better equip and be more effective in reaching those for Christ and making disciples. You are not treated like another number but an actually partner in crime. After having experience in using many different church softwares in my time of ministry, I can say this is the best church management software around. This is extremely user friendly. Some of our favorite features are the easy to use children's check in and process queues. I can't stress enough how important it is to have clear processes and the next step for each individual person in your church. CCB processes helped us see where everyone is at in which classes they have attended, what their gifts are, and where they are at on their spiritual journey. I am more than happy to connect with anyone who is looking for a church that has experience with CCB.

Comments: I have used several different church software applications. Church Community Builder is by far the best company out there. I have been using them for 7 years and love the program. It does everything- finances, groups, a comprehensive people data base, needs, giving and more.
All of our community groups use it for communications and attendance and the needs group for potluck and snacks. They love having a color picture directory that they can personally update.
Our security team and children's ministry teams use the scheduling each week and love how easy it is to use.

We have looked into other companies over the years to see what they have to offer- almost switched once, because they made the program look so good- but now that company is going out of business.
If you want amazing support, and a tool that can be used for almost every aspect of church life- I highly recommend Church Community Builder. Karen - Springs Church

Comments: Adopting CCB from our other "outdated" system, was a great decision for our church. We wanted to put more control in the hands of all the staff members, our pastors and the congregation, by having a user friendly, online system.

Behind the scenes, it has allowed our staff to connect better with congregants. From a lay leader perspective, it has opened up a more efficient way to communicate and invite new people into ministry. Many of the congregation are not actively logging in to the system, however, they are users by the sheer fact that they are receiving messages, mail merges, needs, etc. They are able to view communication that stems from CCB to their email, without having to log in to the system.

There have been some glitches within the system, but we have found that the CCB staff is very attentive to fixing and improving things on a continual basis. There hasn't been anything majorly wrong that has upset our daily usage of CCB and anytime we call the help desk, they are incredibly kind and efficient.

Overall, we are very pleased with CCB.

Comments: I loved the idea of the system. We were looking for a system to help stream line our processes. This system made things harder for us. It seems you need to hire a staff member just to manage the system. Maybe this product works better for larger churches, I am not sure. Just trying to send an email is difficult. Our staff is on the verge of revolting and just not using the product. I would consider us to be a tech savvy church but this system made simple tasks really difficult.

Pros.
-I liked the forms. We used them a lot.
-Process ques have potential.

Cons.
-You have to know HTML code to send an email. When you click "Get Help" it sends you to a site to learn HTML
-Getting your Kids Check in is difficult. Trying to figure out how "Attendance Grouping" works and them explaining it to staff is a pain. We are still have issues with it now that we have two services.
-Just trying to put a picture on the front page you have to link it to an off site account.
-Getting members to log in for the fist time is complicated. It cannot issue an automatic user login.
-Twexting??? Trying to get people to go to their profile and add their mobile carrier to get text is hard to explain.
-If you ask for help on-boarding your staff they want to sell you a coach. I was hoping for some webinars or something.
-Online giving through the site is very hard to figure out how to enable. We use easytithe and haven't been able to integrate it to our CCB site.
-Both of my contacts when we first joined a year ago have left the company or something.
-Expensive compared to some of the newer systems

Vendor Response

by Church Community Builder on October 18, 2015

We're sorry that you had the negative experience that you are sharing here. One of the things that was shared with us but wasn't included in this review was that there was a lack of "time and knowledge to train everyone in using this system". This can easily be the situation for a church plant when resources are limited. We offer an online test drive during the evaluation period and give access to all help files and training videos so that a church can address the 'user friendliness' of it and even train on parts of the software before they ever sign on with us. We feel that is a key part of the evaluation process so that there are no surprises. I'm sorry that there wasn't more time to evaluate the software before the decision or more time to learn it after the decision. Either of those changes may have resulted in a different decision and experience. With that said, we're truly sorry for this 'detour' and pray that you find the right software for your church's needs.

Pros: I liked that I could organize families contact info and keep track or their family positions.

Cons: It was not user-friendly. We tried to get our church integrated into the system, but it was so difficult for people even to figure out how to set up a username and password that we eventually started using it only as an address book. We were hoping to use this in all aspects of our church, including volunteer sign up and children's ministry check-in. However, we were never able to fully use the program because our congregation could not figure it out. Also, the set up was very frustrating, again it's not very user-friendly. We just recently decided not to renew with CCB, even though it is going to be huge job and very time consuming to re-import all of our contacts into a new database.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure that they have a good support team and make sure you understand how much support is offered for what you are paying. If your church cannot easily use the database, then it is not worth your time.

Pros: It does keep track of people and has an easy to use giving portal. I suppose the price point works for what we do with it, but it is not a comprehensive solution.

Cons: The interface is not very intuitive and little has changed in the few years I have used it. My main gripe: You can schedule people for a service/task, but you do not have an easy way of giving additional information to only those scheduled (e.g. "don't forget, we have a Baptism, so be prepared after the break"). You have to set up a separate mail message for something like that.

Recommendations to other buyers: Like most software, they are very good about what it WILL do, but if you do not see something you think it should do, it probably doesn't. Additionally, there is no way to really examine the features of the software without signing up. It's a real hassle if you are trying to evaluate several products.

Comments: Church Community Builder is excellent for small to large churches looking to manages everything related to Individuals and Growth. For the Church it also allows distributed management of information by Lay Leaders and designated volunteers. Additionally it gives the congregation a level of self service to maintain their family records, download giving statements and register for events. For Facility and event planning it has a comprehensive suite of tools to manage event, room and resource requests. This tool covers all the major needs of any church but then takes it one step further and allows the ease of growing your church into a multisite church.

Regarding Updates I have yet to see any company so aggressive at updating their software as Church Community Builder. They embrace the Scrum method with new features and updates on a routine release schedule typically giving 4 - 6 major updates per year all based on user feedback. Customer service is limited to a select number of individuals at your organization to minimize excess support requests, but that has allowed them to respond quickly and effectively when issues arise. We have been live with Church Community Builder going on a year and have seen positive response from staff and the congregation.

The only Negative or what could be seen as a negative is if you are the type to do heavy customization to your software solution to change the look or build add ons they are a little weak in this category as of the writing of this post. They do have an API and the ability to build custom reports with (zero sql) but both are still needing further advancement to have more depth and breath of features. If you are not a programmer then this negative shouldn't affect your decision.

We apologize that Church Community Builder was not what you expected it to be. We realize that we can't be the ideal software for every church just like no one church can be ideal for every person. We are also in agreement that Church Community Builder should not be used as just an address book. When you first spoke to us before your church launched, I'm sorry that we didn't do a better job of sharing the vision of what Church Community Builder could be for you when you grew. That's on us. It would have been great if there had been a plan in place to use more and more of the tool as the needs of your ministry changed. It's obvious that the software was underutilized for your team and that's unfortunate. We wish you the best with your ministry in the future. If we can even be of assistance, please let us know.

Comments: Pros:
*Web based, access from anywhere
*Keeps roster, schedules & Giving
*Expanded fields that offer more than just basic info

Cons:
*Most inflexible software I have ever used. As a leader (but not administrator) I cannot change any default settings. Creating a schedule always means changing rehearsal from 7AM Monday to the correct evening time.
*e-mail notifications - worst part of the whole system. e-mailing is all or nothing unless you set up a mail merge, which is not hard, but I draw from a pool of volunteers. If I want to send special instructions to those only involved in a given service, I have to send it to the whole group or create a mail merge. There is NO option to do that when you send the requests out via the schedule.
* Searching the help area to find out how to do something is a bit biased. very seldom when you inquire about a feature (such as e-mailing a message just to the scheduled volunteers) will you be told that it does not do that. Even though I'm overseeing two groups and have high program rights, no one but an administrator can contact the software company directly.

So bottom line, it's great for the number cruncher, but sorely lacking (IMHO) for service planning. We use CCB and Planning Center, which is a pain going back and forth. There is an app that ties them together, but I tried it about year ago with no success.

Overall: - A profile should be able to have an alternative email
- Forms should be able to have automated mail merges attached to them
- Redesign of the Home page of each person
- More flexibility in creating a mail merge with out having to use the add-on "Write Area" only in Firefox. I should be able to do the same things if I were using Safari OS.

Highly Recommended!

Pros: Easy donation tracking and reporting, great group management tools, easy online giving and profile management for church members, online sign-up forms for events.

Everything is easy to find and use, and tons of free training videos are available for people who need a little help.

API access is available for certain core services (though some additional API access would be nice).

Software is hosted and accessible via the web. Uptime has been excellent.

Fast and thorough customer service and technical support. Even for tricky technical issues that would be ignored by a typical support team.

Cons: The generic group model can be a bit confusing for some people. (In CCB a group can be anything... a class, a small group, an organizational unit, the entire church. A lot of people have a hard time wrapping their mind around that.)

The check-in system requires that several settings be entered every time, which confuses volunteers.

Custom reporting is somewhat limited. A full report generator would be a nice additional feature, or possibly read-only SQL query access.

Overall: We've been very happy with CCB over the past several years and highly recommend them for churches of all sizes. They've helped us get a lot more organized and take better care of people.

Wonderful company, product, service, people!

Pros: Constant revision, commitment and betterment of product to suit church specific use.

Cons: None. they constantly work to improve their product according to their customers' needs.

Overall: Well, I just think these folks are totally awesome. We have been using CCB for at least 2 years now and I remain a BIG fan. I feel like I¿m getting Christmas presents every time they update CCB - just when we think there's no way it could possibly get better. I can¿t wait to see what¿s new! They are excellent with customer service and also have wonderful forum pages, training videos, etc. This is the best web software and company I ever experienced because they stay involved and care about their product and consumers. This obviously not only their livelihood, but is a passionate mission to them. thanks, CCB, you make our church work lives so much easier!

Pros: Easy to find people. Centralized database, Calendar, and Facility management. Off site backup.

Cons: Dated user interface. Lack of media file management (media player for video / music files) . No service planning module (see Planning Center Online). Limited integration with social media, SMS, ect.

Overall: It's a good program. Flexible for churches of all sizes. The site allows smaller churches to offer "big church" features online.

Needs work on support and social

Pros: I like the group management, financial management, most things about the profiles. I like Kids Self Check In printing labels process once we got it going. Anything purely administrative in terms of reporting, tracking and automating is really great.

Cons: Biggest pet peeve is how hard it is for most group leaders to communicate with CCB. Only the master user can submit tickets, but our part time staff needs the speed of being able to troubleshoot the system themselves. There needs to be a support avenue for the average user, at least on a leader level, for us to get the most from it. Secondly, there such a lack of feature support for Facebook, especially in the API. I don't want users to access Facebook from CCB, I want them to access CCB from Facebook. An app that would let them know they have messages, show their volunteer schedule, and allow them to update contact info would be killer. Better still would be if they could sign in and use CCB through the app. They use FB daily but many don't use CCB as often. Or give me the API support I need to build the app myself.

Overall: I was pleased upon posting my original review to receive a call from their service manager. While we agreed to disagree about some points about support communication, at least they take criticism seriously, and that gives me a lot of cause for hope so I modified this review. My recent support interactions have been better received since I followed his process. I stand by my contention support is bottle-necked through our master admin and more access for key leaders is necessary. Also, integrating with social through an app would be a huge step forward - CCB is not a social platform and we don't want them to become one. We love the administrative benefits and would like to see that become stronger with better support and training resources. CCB should work on incorporating established social platforms and do what they do best, which is make it easier for us to report, database and administrate.

Pros: Customer Service has been responsive.

Cons: CCB is not intuitive. Often it takes several of us around the office to figure out how to do what should be simple tasks. I have been using it for 5 years personally and find myself avoiding it if at all possible. We had a big serving push and decided to utilize several features of CCB to implement new volunteers. Ended up being extremely complicated for us...and the person who headed up that charge was a tech specialist at a book company. She is very savvy and it was quite tedious for her to make CCB work for us. After it was implemented, there were several "dropped balls" by CCB and it ended up in many people falling through the cracks and not being contacted about serving.
Our congregation typically won't touch CCB unless they have to. Only our high capacity volunteers use it b/c we sort of force them to, in order to administrate their teams.

Overall: I would not recommend CCB to another church at this time. In a time where software is extremely user friendly and even a non-tech savvy person can find their way around (think Apple products), CCB seems outdated and tedious.

We apologize that the experience was not what you expected. We strive to address user-friendliness in the evaluation process through the test drive. I'm sorry that these issues weren't uncovered during your team's test drive of the software. We pray that you found the right software for your team's ministry needs. Note: Although "user-friendly" and "intuitive" mean different things to different people (See other reviews), Church Community Builder is always improving and seeking to do what we do better. With roughly 8-week development cycles and new updates coming our regularly, we've had scores of improvements since this posting, including a full revamp of the user interface when we released Church Community Builder 4.0.

Pros: For us, a church of about 800 family units, CCB has given us many tools to leverage our impact. Online Giving/Donor Management, Secure Children's Check-In, Volunteer Scheduling, Small Group management continually give us the leading edge to impact our families.

Cons: not really a con, but like everything tech driven, its always evolving. am waiting on a smart phone app to leverage use.

Overall: CCB is probably the best value for the money and effort for any church, large or small. Since relationships is at the core of most ministry impact, CCB wins hands down.

Pros: We love the tons of features CCB has. From Process Queues, to online forms creation, to children checkin, the features all integrate together and just work. We are an all Mac church, so it's nice having a CMS that is avaliable to all operating systems.

Cons: Since it has tons of features some times you can get a little lost in the beginning. We recomend their online training videos. We have had CCB for three years now and still use them.

Overall: Highly recomend it. The best CMS we have found so far.

Pros: I'm assuming 5 stars is best in your survey. The customer support rates many more stars than I'm able to give. The team at CCB was so supportive and helpful during the transition from our "old" ChMS. CCB's Process Queues make tracking attenders so easy: we can "watch" them as they move from first-time visitors to members. The Queues also make it easy to see which volunteers have been processed (background checks, coaching/training, etc have been done or NEED to be done). Fewer people slip through the cracks now! CCB has been taking notes when we mention some of the capabilities we had in our "old" ChMS, but don't have in CCB (for example, the ability to track attendance, based on giving). They listen to our concerns/issues, then help us find a workable solution...all the while, they're talking to programmers to make programming changes that will impact CCB's growth.

Cons: We have found some issues when trying to email "Parents Of", and are aware that changes to improve this feature are expected any day (first-quarter 2011). We are a large church (5,500-plus in an average weekend), and initially found CCB to be more geared toward smaller churches. In the 5 months we've been with them, we've seen them changing to be more accommodating to the large churches...but there's still room for growth in this area. Implementation packages are available, but if not used, the church may feel like a fish out of water. I highly recommend implementation be used for all churches that want to use as many CCB features as possible.

Overall: I give 2 thumbs up for CCB overall. The cost is significantly less than many of the other ChMS's out there, and I feel our church gets more "bang for the buck" by using it! We regularly get comments from our attenders that show us how effective CCB is ("Wow! How did you know this was my 2nd visit?" "Thanks for the note that you were praying for me." "Really? I've been attending since 2006, but haven't attended membership, yet? How do I sign up?") I haven't mentioned one of the best features: the ability for members of groups to communicate to each other (without either having the other's email address)! Our group members feel a sense of belonging, right from the start!

Pros: Web-based application which allows us to keep track of contact information, manage life groups, children and student ministry check-in, assimilation, and building stronger connections and relationships within the church. CCB gives us that centralized place that is accessible to all staff where ever they need it and we never have to worry about managing upgrades or infrastructure.

Customer service and support have been outstanding from day 1. Their responses have been timely, helpful, and very pleasant.

Cons: There are very few cons aside from new feature requests which are already in the pipeline. Any problems we have are usually because someone wasn't trained or shown how to use the application correctly.

Overall: You have to find the right fit when it comes to your church and a ChMS application. For us, CCB was the right choice and they have continued to demonstrate commitment to service and product improvement.
