It also does a great job simplifying the reporting process for reimbursable expenses with our business administrator. Cons We have experienced a few down-times the last couple months, and one on a day when expense reports were due. They were able to get it up pretty quickly. The actual site and program was not bad, but again, it's tedious for anything other than business purposes. Pros What I liked most about this software, Expensify, is that it allowed for bulk imports and would often suggest categories for certain items once you upload enough receipts and it could find a pattern. In my position as General Manager, I had access to a company card and Expensify is how we kept track of everything before exporting it to our company's accountant. Cons What I liked least about this software, Expensify, is that it often flagged certain receipts for being duplicates or for being incorrect despite that not being the case. Unfortunately, this prevented you from saving the files correctly until the "disputes" were corrected. For a business, this can make sense or be rectified as the totals are all that really matter, but for personal use, keeping track of tiny margins and trends becomes a lot more important and needs to be protected. Pros Expensify is in my opinion the best expense option on the market. It is so easy to use and makes expense reports a breeze. Cons Not really anything I dislike about expensify, but what I like the least, is I wish the software was a little smarter and able to match expenses if the receipt date is a day or two off from the billing date. It's simple, to-the-point, and gives you every feature you need. I haven't used other expense management services, but I really could not imagine doing so. Pros The speed and ease of use makes Expensify a standout. In my 4 years of using it, the servers have never crashed or gone down. Reimbursements are processed speedily, and it's easy to make changes when necessary to old reports. The interface is intuitive and easy for volunteers to enter their information into (a big priority for my organization since we have hundreds of volunteers added each year). Cons If you start to get a lot of reports, the search feature can take a little bit to load, but that's really only when you have 10,000+ reports to filter through. It's still very usable. It's easy, and quite frankly, effective and I recommend to everyone. Pros Quite frankly, Expensify is literally the easiest and most effect of the Expense software on the market. It's easy to use, it's thorough and it's easy to download/understand reporting features. Cons I've been using Expensify for nearly 3 years, I personally do not have any qualms with Expensify. Internet speed can affect issues, if you are updating a bunch of receipts. There are many features and functions that we don't need as a company, but considering the features that we do use are so easy, I would guess the rest of the product is just as great! Pros We mainly use Expensify for reimbursement reports and to track credit card receipts. We don't even use it to its fullest function and still highly recommend it. Especially now that the pricing is based on usage, it's a no brainer! You only pay for it when you use it and based on how much you use it, which means there's really no risk in purchasing a subscription! It also makes reviewing and reimbursing reports easy and the historical reporting is very handy if a question arises after the fact. Cons The only thing that can be confusing is that you have to add an expense and then start a report and link the expense to the report. Every employee I've ever worked with has gotten tripped up with this step, because instinctually, everyone assumes you can start a new report first and then add an expense to the report. In general, this is a small complaint, but it would be more intuitive if the first step was creating a report. Review Source Peter K. And Expensify continues to develop and support the product very well. We have recommended Expensify to many other organizations like ours. Cons Sometimes the connections to financial accounts break. And I'm notified of the fact. I have to notice it myself and wish there were an automated notification. Pros Expensify is a cloud-based financial management software designed for businesses to streamline the expense reporting process. The key selling point that got me hooked so many years ago was the receipt scanning. The best part is that you can scan in multiple currencies and they will appear on your reports converted into dollars. Cons Sometimes the software's customer service can be slow to respond, and that certain features can be difficult to navigate. It is very easy to use and I almost never get complaints from my company’s users. Pros It’s really easy to use and makes expense report processing very efficient. As a user and admin, I like both sides. Cons The customer service is non-existent. There is no phone number you can call for support and they have an automated program that answers all customer support emails. It takes a long time to get issues resolved. Pros This is an expense tracker. I use this to track expenses by taking a picture of my receipt's whether it is for groceries, gas, business purposes. This keeps everything organaized by date and keeps the pictures of the receipts for a detailed history. Cons Nothing specifically I have experienced with Expensify thus far. I have even have contacted customer service and they have replied back professionally and quick it didn't even take a full 24 hours to respond and I am not too familiar why I even had to contact there support but it was something not too important to address either way the issue was fixed and their customer service was fast and reliable while providing professional customer service and care. Pros Expensify is what expense management should be - simple, fast, and effective at doing the job. It has tons of bells and whistles to improve the experience, including mobile support, automated scanning, and categorization. Adoption on the technology is also simple - chances is, it's much easier than whatever else you are currently using! Cons The only con comes in getting people to fully adopt the software, and that is due more to culture. Diligence in picking the right categories, submitting expenses on time, and submitting all expenses is just hard. Expensify does make the experience much easier with things like the mobile app and automatic scanning, but be prepared to reinforce your policies. VP Computer Software Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Good Product - Truly Awful Onboarding and Support" May 5, 2020 4.0 While the product is good if you don't have any complications, the onboarding and support are probably the worst I have ever experienced. After a brief training session, there is no longer any phone call support allowed (only email and chat and the delays could be many hours and often days). More recently with the COVID-19 situation, their usage has plummeted so they recently announced a doubling of pricing (100% increase) to all users if they don't switch to using their credit card which for many companies (including ourselves and including reasons like the cc syncing problem) will not work. The message about the price increase was hidden in a very very long email from the CEO titled something about support improvements. Pros It is easy for the end user to use, particularly given the mobile app. It has a lot of good controls and notifications for potential user errors or abuses. Cons The credit card sync features often don't work or are significantly delayed (days, weeks if at all) which causes unintended reimbursements for non reimbursable expenses and messed up accounting. The customer support chat experience is adequate. They are able to integrate with HRIS systems for employee creation and reimbursement if desired. Overall it has done the necessary job. Pros I like that we can set up permissions so managers can review expenses but the finance team can do a final review prior to reimbursement. Cons The admin experience is not the best. I wish they would populate expense reports that have action needed in the home page for administrators who need to reimburse the expenses. Expenses can sometimes get 'lost' in the system without administrators realizing. Recently, however, I've been required to use Certify for expense reports. WOW, Expensify blows it out of the water in every regard. More mobile friendly, easier to use regardless of device, and much less of a learning curve. Pros While it's easy to use Expensify on your desktop and drag and drop e-receipts into it, it's also very mobile-friendly. For paper receipts, I always use the app to photograph my receipt. The process is pretty intuitive and easy to learn. Cons Expensify allows users to create "rules" that prefill some expense details based on conditions you set. This could be built out a little more. For instance, why do I need to select what card was used for a purchase if the expense automatically ported in from my credit card activity? Review Source Emily P. Its easy to track with pictures of receipts and easy to add any additional information. The app is easy to use (mostly) for tracking things when you are on the go. Cons I find it hard when submitting a monthly expense report to the office manager, that its difficult to submit one via the app. Most of the time I will have to get on the website and create a report and submit it that way. Pros I love that Expensify has a website and an app. Since it's meant to keep track of travel expenses, the app has a feature that will save photos of receipts by taking a photo of them within the app, or they can be uploaded from your phone. For people who don't want to deal with the app, Expensify also can be used through its website, and receipt photos can be uploaded there. Cons I understand that expense reports need to be approved, but if the person at your company is slow at approval, Expensify doesn't seem to nudge or email reminders to that person, meaning the reports will be late unless the employee does the nudging and reminding. I mean I would have receipts in my pocket, bag, and folder and always manage not to record them so this has been a saving grace for me. Pros Gone are the days of manually scanning receipts or documenting your expenses. Expensify gives you a quick and easy way to link your card and your bank account so it can track your expenses. This has made my weekly financial review so easy just use the web or access the app and you can manage cards, create expense reports, email receipts, and more.I love the fact that your staff can utilize it as well to create their own expense report so it becomes so much easier to issue a reimbursement for the expenses they covered. Cons Not much to complain about. They have improved since I first started using it in 2016 and it has been great for business and personal use. March 19, 2018 5.0 Really the only way to appreciate Expensify is to use any other expense software. You'll quickly realize just how much time is saved with this little app. I can expense on the fly, before I even walk out of the store, with just a matter of clicks. Pros Simple. Easy to use. Automated receipt scanning. Automated categorization, with smart features that learns from your changes and preferences. Works on multiple platforms, although the mobile app is the most useful. Submit and edit expenses anytime, anywhere. I've yet to come across anything else that works as well. This will save you time and money, and most importantly help your employees maintain their sanity while filing accurate expenses. Cons The "smart scanning" of receipts was very buggy a year ago, but seems to work fairly well now. In the past I avoided it and entered everything manually, instead of trying to spot the mistakes. The only issues I seem to run into now is when a vendor doesn't list their name at the top of the receipt or in large/bold letters. It will often pick up something else like the address as the business name. It's pretty easy to spot though. Review Source Rishabh G. If I had to nitpick, I would say that they can add an option to split the bill between multiple months. This will help with the reimbursement for subscriptions spanning more than a month. I do not recommend this product at all. Pros I honestly don’t have anything positive to say about this software. I have been an Executive Assistant for a long time and I have used several EPS. I have been able to intuit and jump right in to use every single one except for Expensify. It does not function like anything I’ve used previously and not in a positive way. Cons Expensify is not easy to use. I have been an Executive Assistant for nearly 20 years and used a variety of EPS and this one is the worst by far. It is not intuitive, it is very confusing, it requires a lot of customizing on the individual user’s part to view what you need. Review Source SG Sally G. Controller Computer Software Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Expensify is pretty good" December 5, 2019 4.0 Overall I think Expensify is a solid product but I do believe they would do well to add a lot of functionality from an administrator / accounting perspective. Pros I like the ease of loading receipts and drilling down into an expense report to find the data I need for accounting purposes. I like the user interface. It's extremely easy to add a new user and our new users never really have questions so I think the users find it easy to navigate. I love that it interfaces with our accounting software creating a seamless exchange of data once everything is set up properly; this saves a lot of time and duplicate entry. I love that it has a direct pay option - the users get the payments directly to their bank account. The customer support is a chat feature - they don't always respond immediately but it's always pretty quick and they are extremely responsive. They have always helped solve all my issues and I consider their support to be pretty top-notch. Cons I think the product is lacking altogether in Reporting functionality. There's really not even a "Reports" module to speak of. You have to basically go in and pull your own data from the modules ...it makes everything feel clunky and unprofessional.
