I intentionally used past tense becuase my company decided to change to a different - worse software - terrible move on their part. Pros I think one of the hallmarks of great software is having a great UX/UI, and Expensify definitely has that. and for that reason, I love the ease of use. It makes something as mundane as expense reporting not feel like a chore that takes up so much of your time. Cons There's actually not anything that I don't like about Expensify. I think it's one of the better expense reimbursement softwares on the market (there are others I'm sure). Review Source JG Joseph G. It's easy to use and fits into my monthly tasks well. It also feels like a transparent process when it comes to understanding the status of my reimbursements. Pros Expensify way provides me with a clear and easy way to manage my monthly work expenses, combine them in a report, and submit them. It's easy to upload receipts, assign departments, and other necessary details like whether something is Direct, Overhead, or part of a Sub-Department. Creating expenses and submitting reports is a breeze and I assume this helps businesses track all of this on the backend in a clear way. I was using something else and that stopped being developed, so now I use this and I will likely not be switching because I didn't find anything better in the "freemium" realm of products that do this. Pros Expenses come in and need to be accounted for. You need a quick and easy way to get them out of your inbox, wallet, credit card statement, etc. and onto a cloud platform. So, in short, Expensify does what it's purports to do: it tracks expenses. There are also a lot of other features that I don't use, so it likely can be as robust as you want it to be. I use my account very simply. It's nice, too, to be able to track mileage. Cons I think there are too many clicks required to get to the entering. It's easy enough and quick enough, but it could be easier and quicker. I would like there to be a more simplified interface for people that don't need to use all the bells and whistles. August 15, 2017 5.0 My life is easier, I don't have to hang on to receipts that lose their ink. And it automates everything. I love it! Pros My favorite function of this app is that I simply take a photo of my receipt and it inputs EVERYTHING. It inputs the name of the place the receipt is from, the amount of money, and the date on the receipt. It's so simple! It even transfers my receipts from British pounds to US dollars automatically for me when I'm traveling. Or Canadian, or any other country I'm in. It does the conversion for me. Everything is automated. My life is so much easier, and I don't have to carry any receipts around with me. The other favorite thing is that once I'm ready to send a report in, it can be for the month, or a specific trip, or what ever, it emails the entire report broken down into categories for me in a PDF file with the receipt photos attached in the PDF. Pros What I liked most about this software is the ability to track receipts and manage expenses efficiently and without complications. The feature of taking a photo of the receipt and having the details automatically transcribed is incredibly convenient. This has significantly simplified the expense recording process, saving me a lot of time and effort. Cons Although the platform overall is easy to use, I have encountered some challenges in initial setup and customizing certain features to fit the specific needs of my business. Pros Easy to use and works in conjunction with TSheets, which our company LOVES. TSheets is easy & has phenomenal customer service!! Cons They do not have a customer service priority in the company. They do not have a phone number and indicate they only provide support online (the support I received was via email- I don’t even see that live chat is an option). They can’t be bothered with immediately resolving their issues and work via delayed emails. we are trying to get through a busy time with them and will look to switch to a customer service friendly company. I used to have many receipts in my wallet and now I didn't have anyway to store them until I reconciled my accounts. Expensify helps me capture screen shots of my receipts, enter in the info from the receipts and then create reports of my expenses. It's a great way to keep your finances in check. Pros I like the fact that there is an app as well as an online website so I can track my expenses on the go or in the office. Online storage of receipts is nice too. September 1, 2020 2.0 Negative overall experience. Pros It integrates with Quickbooks accounting. Cons I would stay far away from Expensify. The company has an annual subscription page under your profile which shows you a monthly cost of from $9/user/month. Key word there is the 'from'. If you are not using the Expensify card, they will bill you $36/user/month. Yes, the less services of theirs that you use, the more they will charge you for. They don't state this clearly anywhere and instead send you to different articles or newsletters with convoluted explanations and no clear way to determine how much your monthly cost will be. Customer support via online chat gave me the runaround when I tried determining our monthly cost, making sure to send me links to lengthy articles. When the bill came out to more than I expected, I spent hours going back and forth through chat asking for a discount, and explaining that there was no clear way to see what we would have been charged for the month. Customer support was not budging at all, and only kept sending me more lengthy information on how the bill was calculated. It should not be that hard to calculate monthly costs on an expense application. When I tried to ask if I could escalate the issue, they said that was the highest form of customer support they offered - no phone support nothing - only a chat window where you talk with a no name 'concierge' person. There is some room for error. Pros I like that you can add a lot of details to your expenses. (Titles, depts, receipts, etc.) If you forget anything (submitting, approving, adding bank account etc) the concierge will send you an email to remind you. Cons It seems to be a bit confusing to some of my employees. I do explain as best I can but sometimes when people submit their reports, instead of going to me, it goes to our account owner. It’s also not obvious that you have to select “reimbursable” to have your funds go to you. It’s also not obvious that you have to create a report and submit after you generate expenses. I am expecting more features from Expensify though Pros 1\. The best thing I like about Expensify is it's smart scanner. If forward a bill or receipt to expensify, it will automatically scan it and create an expense for me, by filling the amount and the vendor. It also attached the bill email as attachment in the expense. That makes my life a lot easier! 2. The next best thing I love about Expensify is it's rules. When I create an expense, I can create a rule out of it. Next time if a similar expense comes up, the rule will be used to populate the required fields. This leads to me typing almost nothing. Just mouse clicks 3. It also warns me about duplicate receipts of sorts and asks me to review it! 4. It makes sure I am following the policy rules while creating expenses or reports, and gives me a warning and an error about it Cons 1\. The smart scanner takes a lot of time to actually scan the emails I send. It does scan it in sometime, but I would like it to be quicker, rather than loading for so much time. 2. The suggestions feature in the expense section is not good. The suggestions search exactly based on what I type and look for prefixes. Cons Our company switched to a new bank account and we updated all of our other software accounts via plaid and it took around 5 minutes eachHowever, Expensify we sent in the request on January 4th to update our bank account - it is February 12th and we STILL have not got them to link our bank account. It's been one of the most frustrating things in my career I've had to deal with - they've requested letters from our bank, legal documents for our business name, then after a list of 6 questions (which they take usually 3 to 5 business days to respond to) - they started at the beginning of the list this morning. There is no end in sight.I'm just in utter shock that no one will get on the phone with us to try and resolve or move along - we are literally going to move away from Expensify just because they will not simply let us pay our employees by linking our payment method. I do a lot of testing of competitor apps which creates multiple expenses per day and Expensify is a really easy way of recording these and sending them to my manager. I think some minor improvements could be made, but overall it's a very slick and easy app to use. Pros It's very easy to upload receipts, reports etc and to combine various expenses into one report. It's super easy to send it off to my manager and for him to approve it. There's a very clear record of my expenses and a clear description of where they are in the reimbursement process. It works well! Cons I got a bit confused initially about how to add my bank details, it seemed very US-focused, by which I mean there seemed only to be a way of adding an American bank details. I was actually just confusing myself, because I hadn't appreciated that by submitting it, my company would actually just use my bank details that they already have to reimburse me. This could be clearer in the app, but maybe it's just a specific thing for my company? Also, it would be nice to be notified that I have been reimbursed when the actual money has been sent. The status said 'reimbursement received' before the money actually came back to my account, which made me worried that it had been sent to the wrong person, when in fact the payment hadn't actually been sent yet! Making that clearer would be great. It also felt a bit clunky creating a report - it might be better to make it obvious that you should do this before adding an expense as adding it afterwards was slightly confusing. Whether adding receipt images, uploading files, or adding new expenses, Expensify takes the pain out of expense reporting. And that's not an easy thing to do! Pros Expensify's tagline, 'Expense Reports that Don't stink' tells you everything you need to know! I've used a variety of expense reporting system and Expensify is by far the best. With a phenomenal mobile app and simple integration options to link credit cards, Expensify actually makes creating and modifying expense reports a snap. And, with a super modern, responsively designed interface, it's easy for anyone to create new reports, add new expenses, and view and print existing reports. Cons It would be nice if there was an ability to see additional reporting regarding spending habits or the ability to see reports based on expense types, such as travel or food and beverage.
