Pros: Being able to take photos of receipts with my smartphone means never losing a receipt or forgetting to submit it for reimbursement.

A great number of expense categories and then items within them such as Uber for travel. The ability to add in tips is also handy.

Cons: It does take time to get used to using it.

At first, it feels like a lot of work matching receipts to expenses and so on but once you realize you were already doing it when you did paper forms it makes the transition easier.

Overall: It streamlines the travel reimbursement process. It makes keeping track of all the receipts you end up with when on a business trip convenient and saves the room in your wallet where you would have stashed paper copies.

Pros: Just looks "Pretty". As an end user, since I have been using this program in our company, I haven't found anything with Chrome River which made me think what a great program.

Cons: Not user friendly, at all. It takes the Chrome River support help weeks to respond to your request. The features that Chrome River offers is too restricted and they are not tailored with our needs in the company. The final report is too long and keeps repeating the same information in different line entries. Overall, the previous simple program which our company used was much more user friendly and easy to process and use.

Pros: Our Purchase Card process was a paper mess before Chrome River. Implementing this process alone was worth it. Our Expense Reports consisted of paper circulating all over campus, now every thing routes electronically.

Cons: It would be better if we could edit the canned emails to meet our needs. Reporting tools need to be needed up.

Overall: Time savings, documents route electronically. Less printing and less man hours needed to walk documents around campus.

Very flexible product that is easy to customize to suit your company's needs.

Pros: Web-based software that is accessible on any mobile device and is very easy to use. We love the ability to flag duplicate expense submissions and make both expense owners and approvers aware of the duplicates.

Cons: Reporting is not as robust as we would like. You can run a custom query but you do not have the ability to save it. So you have to re-create the query each time you want to run it.

Pros: Mobility, and putting the data entry into the hands of the end-user instead of an A/P team. Ability to create complex approval chain based on roles and locations.

Cons: Support is slow and overly challenging. Seems to be a bit of a language barrier with enhancement team.

It would be nice to see an expense category that covers laundry and/or dry cleaning while traveling.

Pros: It is very easy to navigate. Most of the expense categories are self-explanatory. Import features for receipts are helpful.

Cons: When you enter text into the "business purpose" field, that text remains for the subsequent entry, so it must be deleted.

Pros: I like the ease of use, the gui, selections, single sign on. The new ticketing system is better, but i still like submitting tickets through email

Cons: The way rules group exceptions are setup, huge excel sheets of approval processes coding, customer support

The product itself is great and helps tremendously with invoice and expense reimbursement workflow.

Pros: The paperless environment Chrome provides is fabulous! The electronic movement of invoices and expense reimbursements through the approval process has greatly increased the efficiency of our workflow.

Cons: The help desk support. Customizations sometimes take way too long to implement. In addition, approval routing rule changes made sometimes screw up prior changes without our knowledge until it is found through the user experience.

Pros: we like the way we can build our policies and routing rules into the software. the system was easily configured to our preferences.

Cons: there are some limitations in the way we like the user interface to be displayed and the email approval template formats. we have worked around these things.

Pros: I feel like most people catch on real quick. with all the pictures i feel that its a good guide for everybody.

Cons: Sometimes since it's an online interface the website it's a bit slow. but it doesn't happen often so it's not too bad.

Pros: The Tracking feature of where the travel report is plus getting away from the paper form is awesome too! The software is simple to use and you don't have to be in the office to use it. You can use your tablet, phone, laptop and your desktop (when in the office).

Overall: Going paperless and knowing where you are at in the Approval process.

Our wonderful CR project team helped us improve, streamline, and rethink outdated travel policies.

Pros: It drives policy compliance with reminders, warnings, and hard-stop violations. Plus, no more paper!!

Cons: The credit card reconciliation has been difficult for us, however, a big part of that could be related to our stringent state requirements.

Overall: Automated rules that drive compliance thereby eliminating manual checking. It has taken the guess work out of 'where's my expense report'. Employees receive reimbursement quicker. Paperless system!!

Never knew expense processing could be so easy.

Pros: Chrome River Expense makes it easy to submit, gain approvals, and reimburse funds. Operation within expense is easy which makes training users a breeze.

Cons: Most of what I like least about the software is probably my lack of understanding about the potential for customization. Many times I find myself wishing it could do this, then come to find out it can, I just didn't know it.

Pros: Web-based expenses are much faster than paper for sure!

Cons: Active-X based web controls are a bit burdensome on some browsers, on occasion.

Overall: I don't work in Accounting, but was a lead for our end-users, making sure they understood how to use Chrome River when we rolled it out. It was an EASY sell from a convenience and quality standpoint. It's slick and works very well; our firm credit card charges dump directly into their website. Couldn't be any easier. :)

Comments: The time and resources involved in the implementation and training on Chrome River Invoice and Expense was well worth it. The representative was extremely aggressive in implementing two major changes in such a small window. Our project manager was fully aware of this and was still able to cater to our needs. Since Chrome River has gone live, we have been able to streamline our Invoice and Expense process with a paperless, and automated solution that benefits the Finance organization and our business partners. I would highly recommend Chrome River to any organization looking to fully automate their current processes.

Our project manager was extremely knowledgeable of the Chrome River product and quickly understood the representative need for an automated system. Working with our project manager and the Help Desk, we were able to make certain rules group exceptions that tailor to our company. The process in many ways was seamless. Chrome River has been able to create a system that would meet our needs and work for us as a firm.

Generally, Chrome River was well received. Especially by our overhead departments. The challenge for us was training our branch office employees. It took a few months for users in the field to be comfortable working with the system.

Comments: The overall experience has been good so far! The implementation took longer than the Chrome River norm due to the nature of the customization on our part and asking the system to do things it had not done before. The implementation team was great to work with when building our specific interface and as a result have seen improvements in the turnaround of expense reports. Users like the fact that expense reports are now routed electronically for approval and the Accounts Payable Dept. has benefited from approval authority being automated so they don't have to manually check each person's limits along with other automated policy compliance checks. The one area that we would like to see become more user friendly is the reporting function.

Pros: Integration with accounting systems, audit trail tracking, snap and send receipts for expenses.

Cons: Ad hoc reporting is in need of some improvement.

Overall: Chrome River offers a slick modern user interface with a robust rules engine that can allow from simple to very intricate and complicated routing and approvals. The application is constantly being updated and they take customer feedback as part of building out the applications roadmap. The integration with other systems is pretty seamless as well being able to connect to your accounting system through a series of feeds (which you can automate) and they even have the ability to connect to credit cards for pulling in expenses directly. The application comes with a ton of useful standard reporting options but they do have room for improvement with their ad hoc reporting platform.

Comments: Submitting an expense for the first time was real easy. The next step was to learn Chrome River Expense from an Administrative perspective as I will be supporting from a maintenance perspective. The admin functions aren't too difficult, it's more about learning the different business processes and aligning them with how Chrome River manages those business processes such a roles and rules. Customer service could be beefed up a little from a communication and testing perspective. I've felt that the testing and testing documentation is not up to par from what I've seen other support give me.

Cons: How you enter account allocations.

Overall: Chrome River is light years ahead of the previous system we used. It is user friendly for the most part. It has reduced the work load in our Accounts Payable Department tremendously. Chrome River is much easier for navigate and to use to assist our staff in researching problems with their reports. There are a few things I don't care for, such as how you enter account allocations and how the system allows staff to enter an account allocation wrong by giving it an alias and then telling them the account is wrong when they try to submit the report. It should just tell them it is wrong in the beginning to avoid all the corrections they need to make later. Otherwise, it is great and the service is great also!

Pros: customizable for my business rules

Cons: we opted for daily feeds of certain information. Sometimes new options are added that I might be interested in, but until I read their updates in detail, I won't know about changes.

Overall: my firm has been using Chrome River since 2011 for expense reimbursement processing. Implementation was quick. They have kept up with changing client needs and technology by constantly updating the software and offering new options. End users are happy because they have easy options such as connecting receipts directly from Uber, and can get downloaded transactions daily. Submitting expenses are icon based and are tailored to exactly your specs. Back office is happy because duplicates can be immediately identified and importing into GL packages is almost seamless once set up. Take a look. Chrome River is growing fast because they do it right and to your specifications.

Recommendations to other buyers: know your business rules. know your policies. If you can define the rules and policies, it's a huge advantage.

Cons: There are some users who don't find it very easy but I believe a lot of that is not using it very often. When you go back to it after not using it for some months then you have to reorient yourself to the screen and determine what to do.

Overall: Chrome River has helped our office with reporting features, tracking of expense reports. Having everything online has saved a lot of paper as well. The customer service at Chrome is great too. They work very hard to try to give us all we ask for in features and reporting.

Pros: Has cut down on paper floating around the firm. All approvals are obtained electronically. Approvers simply select a green "Accept" button in an e-mail if they approve, or can send back by selecting the red "Return" button. It's very user-friendly!

Cons: Reporting functionality is not the best

Overall: Chrome River Expense helped my organization (an international law firm) go from paper expense report approvals to a sleek, custom-designed automated (and paperless!) system. Automated approval routing has eliminated the need for sending paper expense reports from one person to the next for approvals. It also ensures that each approval is obtained before payment is made. It has saved our firm time, money, and headaches! The Chrome River team is very attentive and helps with setting up the routing rules that work in the background all along the way. Once the system is up and running, their support team does a tremendous job in making modifications for us as well. The company is always looking for ways to improve their products, which we also appreciate.

Comments: Up until we automated our expense report process with Chrome River, we were killing a lot of trees! The features offered by Chrome River enables us to approve, track, reimburse and report on expense reports in an efficient and timely manner. We are in the process of implementing Mercury and look forward to all the enhancements offered by this web-based platform.

Overall: We have found Chrome River to be the best fit for our expense management. We have been able to build in rules which cover all of our internal policies, as well as routing to specific approvers.

Overall: Before going live with ChromeRiver we used a home grown workflow that was at best buggy and at worst difficult to maintain. Since moving to ChromeRiver the process of submitting and reviewing both invoices and expenses is easy and seamless.

Cons: As we are coming from a homegrown system it is hard to adjust to not being able to customize for all policies and procedures that our state has with a vendor program but Chrome River has been great to work with and try to find solutions.

Overall: We almost complete with implementing Chrome River Expense. As we have had test groups shared the new system with our campus we have had all positive feed back from campus.

Pros: Ease in entering costs, tracking of costs, reporting, streamlined approvals.

Cons: Rejecting an expense or invoice for any reason, after a certain point in the process requires the user to start from scratch in getting it entered.

Pros: The snap and send function and being able to review reports without paper and no overload of information

Cons: Sometimes updates can take a while and if the internet is slow it can take a while to load

Overall: Chrome is extremely user friendly! You do not need an app to use on your phone, or connect to any database except the internet. The snap and send function makes sending receipts to my reports flawless and easy to manage. Approvals are faster without paper and go directly to the person to review. Fast, easy and efficient!

Recommendations to other buyers: Paperless expense reporting is the way to go. It speeds up the approval time and gets our clients/ staff paid in half the time

Comments: Overall, for the price, it is not too bad. Good amount of user-friendly features that are enough for uploading the basics of expenses but sometimes some features are extremely painful. For example, having to attach 1 receipt at a time for each expense you make and annotating it drives me nuts. I wish they had an app that just took pics one by one and straight uploaded it into appropriate categories with numbers. Overall again not too bad but for the price you pay as compared to some of the higher end enterprise expense mgmt systems
