### "Athena EMR"

July 21, 2016

5.0

Initially Athena appears intimidating to use, but once you get the hang of it, its a breeze. I really like that it comes with epocrates.

Pros

It comes with Epocrates. Not once since we have had this software has it went down. Customer support is great at fixing your problems right away.

Cons

When adding Lab orders and Imaging orders if you are using different facilities sometimes you have to go in and change the facility or the items you are trying to order will not pull up. It is frustrating when you are in a rush. The software will assume you are ordering for just one facility and tell you order not available at this facility so you will have to take extra steps to change to facility to order the specific item. Therefore you are switching back and forth between different screens. This does not happen for me often but when it does happen of course I am always backed up with patients.

### "Athena EMR"

February 5, 2019

4.0

I like that it is comprehensive for scheduling, charting, and billing so there is no need to go between multiple programs, however it does have some flaws that impact workflow.

Pros

Easy to enter patient data and I like that there is a tab to access meaningful use as a reminder for screenings/vaccines/etc. that the patient is due for. Also excellent for maximizing billable services.

Cons

I don't like that you can't be in the patient's chart and keep the daily schedule open on the side to keep track of patient arrivals while you are charting.

### "Up and running!"

May 3, 2018

5.0

Pros

The thought of changing EHR systems is daunting. Our change to Athena however, was wonderful. We adore the system. The transmission of the info from our first EHR to this one was complete and accurate. We were able to make decisions about how we wanted it to conform to our needs. The trainers are wonderful and have been back several time for sessions to broaden our use and experience. We were pokey at first, but the system is intuitive and simple to figure out for the experienced staff and for the new staff. I've determined that Athena built in several paths to each task - so it appeals to logic across a broad range of staff.

Cons

I get comfortable in my little zone and have a tendency to stay there - THEN Athena shows up for a refresher course and next thing I know, I have a whole new bag of tricks! A little faster, a lot better.

### "From the billing office"

February 14, 2017

4.0

I have been using Athena Health with a dedicated EMR for more than 3 years. The system is quite intricate and integrated, but the training is unsurpassed. All the training units are interactive video, which makes learning the system a very independent process. The CSR is great - depending on the time of year (or the weather!) the hold times can be long, but I ALWAYS get a rep who is friendly and helpful. If they can't solve the problem immediately, they can pass it upward or create a case which is generally resolved in a timely way. I do experience problems with posting of claims from paper EOBs, and I do audit claims from those payers regularly, to make sure copays and adjustments have been posted correctly. Otherwise, this system is robust and easy to work with.

Pros

Ability to customize the product to the practice's needs.

Cons

Can be a little slow.

### "Loaded with features and becomes more efficient with use. "

January 17, 2018

4.0

Pros

The ability to graph and chart different data points (labs, vitals, Coumadin results, etc) and visualize these within the chart can be helpful. Dot phrase macro texts as well as pre selected boxes for templates can both provide significant increase in efficiency. Notes come out readable and logical as opposed to some overly-templated notes.

Cons

System can be a little "bulky" in the sense that there are so many potential customizations and a fair amount of button clicking required until you become more familiar with the system. Auto defaulting on pharmacies, labs, ect is very good when it works, but can lead to mistakes if a patient uses more than one pharmacy for certain drugs. Med list reconciliation is less intuitive than it seems it could be, as well as a lack of auto-integrating diagnosis into the problem list.

### "A simple EHR system"

November 15, 2018

5.0

Pros

A easy to use EHR system that my older co-workers who weren't computer savey were able to operate. Patient loved using the patient portal and it made my job much easier. Having everything from patient labs, office notes, current meds all on page made made use of this system very helpful.

Cons

We have had multiple billing issues with this system as well as problems with the system crashing after updates. I have noticed that some patient info was lost after updates as well.

### "Athena is one of the best, But Support and Training Isn't"

September 6, 2018

4.0

Went live with Athena on 5/2018 and it has been a bumpy ride since.

Pros

\-New modern interface compared to what we were using before. -Easy to Navigate once a workflow is established

Cons

\-Support really isn't that great. I've still got open tickets from months ago with no resolution. Occasionally you'll get someone who can fix your problem on the first call. -Training is subpar. Previous EMR was here for a month training users. Athena send a few people a couple weeks ahead to train only the superusers. Then they send a few more the week before (3), the week of (8) and the week after(3). Most of those people don't even have the answers. They tend to stick what is in the training but any questions outside of that they have to get back to you on.

### "Practicing EMR Expert Review"

February 14, 2017

5.0

Athenahealth is the best life boat for any independent practicing physician or group. It is the best EMR and billing solution if you don't like being employed. No margin, no mission. Not in business or in medicine. So, the best EMR solutions IMHO are those that started as biling solutions and added EMR later, not vice versa. Many reviews are focused solely on the clinical aspects of the EMR but, again: no margin, no mission. There may be better EMR clinical solutions but nobody matches Athenahealth on billing, EMR, patient portal, integrated functionality, and low cost. The best single solution for independent physicians. Look no further.

Pros

For an all inclusive solution to what ails most independent physicians, there is no better option.

Cons

The EMR could be more versatile in terms of templating.

### "Not the best for Naturopathic Doctors"

August 14, 2019

Pros

I liked the internal chat feature which allowed you to connect with other providers in your practice.

Cons

It wasn't geared toward Naturopathic medicine with the templates and other formatting so this made it difficult to use efficiently.

### "my small OBGYN practice"

February 15, 2017

5.0

after slogging for 8 years with an inferior EMR and billing system(allscripts), i decided to take the plunge and bought Athena in AUg 2012. Certainly as you can imagine, changing billings systems was not easy with down time and claims across two systems but we got that worked out . the best feature of this is of course the EMR, the layout the reminders and all that Athena does so much better than the others. It has been a tremendous pleasure to enjoy working on the clinical side with built in reminders for improved reimbursement.I never looked back and am happy to say that I recommend to many of my independant private practice colleagues.

Pros

the emr is elegant, easy, and straight forward.

Cons

the transition from one system to another was burdensome. but that was awhile ago. I am sure this has improved.

### "Vicksburg Women's Care, Inc - Review"

February 14, 2017

5.0

We have been associated with Athena since 2008, which we began with the billing component and adding the EHR in 2010. I was amazed at the ease of using the software without hands on persons for training. I am not a young person (73yrs old) but the online training was unbelievably easy to grasp. I have spoken with other clinics/physicians about Athena and given rave review. As things should progress every so often we will be required to streamline, learn to do something a different way, etc. When ICD-10 came upon us, it seemed a little scary but when we went live with it, a piece of cake. Cannot say enough "good" things about Athena.

Pros

The ease of using all parts, billing as well as clinical.

Cons

Sometimes have slow response from CSC when we are trying to solve a problem, passed around a lot.

### "The Review"

July 20, 2016

4.0

The new upgrade has completed. We have several employee s who only have half of the new streamlined system. There are some of us who only have the new version and some who only have the old version. I believe Athena should of worked out all the issues before going live.

Pros

It is a new system and once we get to use it more we will be able to see the strengths and weakness of the system.

Cons

We were not told of the features that were being removed. I understand we must adapt to change. I 'm curious which practices you interviewed to determine that certain features were no longer needed so you deleted them with the new upgrade. I don't feel that my staff learned the information they need through the tutorials.

### "Athena promises the moon, fails to deliver--a BI perspective"

June 20, 2016

1.0

Pros

Some aspects of the data warehouse feed make extracting data easier.

Cons

I will leave aside the fact that days in AR has gone up dramatically, and we have had to increase training for our billing department and hire new billing staff since Athena implementation, contrary to their ROI assessment. And leaving aside the many errors that we have found in the built-in reporting, there is no support, and I mean absolutely zero support, for the data warehouse feed, in spite of having to pay extra for it. We have a fairly advanced business intelligence department and rely on the data warehouse feed to know the health of our twelve clinics (especially considering the errors we have found in the built-in reports). There is some data that is entered into Athena but does not come into the data warehouse feed. Emails for help are ignored. Some data, we have been told, becomes Athena property, such as claim denial reasons. All we are offered is what they group the claims into inside of Athena--they will not give us the original denial. Further, the back end is only one way. For example, we need to change the PCP (usual provider) for thousands of patients on a regular basis when their provider leaves our practice. In Athena, you either pay them thousands each time, or do it yourself. It has become a regular manual process for us.

### "Athena EMR "

October 4, 2019

5.0

Cloud storage nice. Ease of use good but especially like the ability to customize to make this “ mine”

Pros

I love the ability to customize my reports, letters and templates. I love the photo capture. It’s also very nice not to have to scan papers in. Athena call forwards office fax number so all documents are faxed in with generated bar codes for filing

Cons

I’d like problems at end of encounter to show ICD codes and also generate over to the proble m list

Reason for choosing athenaOne

No scanner.

### "Athena emr. After a years use review"

October 27, 2017

2.0

This is an adequate emr. There are certainly worse emrs on the market that are more cumbersome but there are also several emrs on the marketplace that are much better once you learn to use them

Pros

This emr enables a patient portal, saved findings and saved phrases. Some labs interface with the program.

Cons

Orders faxed to your office go into a queue and are not easily accessible real time. Mistakes can be made regarding scanning documents to the wrong patient. Help via phone is not convenient for real time office practice. Other emrs offer better support. HOWEVER, the biggest issues involve selecting a diagnosis rather than an icd 10, the inability to link meds with multiple diagnoses, the way medications are reviewed, difficulty in reviewing ice 10 from the problem list, amending notes and also how to review historic documents.

October 6, 2019

Pros

One they pitched the product to use they kept saying the product was intuitive. After using for a year know I could not agree more. It is very user friendly. Allows for different styles and helps MIPS compliance. Have seen an increase in revenue. No shows are decreasing. Been very please with the product

Cons

Can be an issue with MAC users, but many times there is work arounds

### "Generally Good Product; NOT a fan of Streamlined"

July 21, 2016

4.0

Overall, I think Athena was a very good product. It is my only EMR experience so I have nothing to compare it to; however, I find it was easy to learn and maneuver. Our entire staff is truly struggling with the Chart portion and having to click around multiple times to arrive at a place that used to take one click. I do not like the new release.

Cons

We have just begun to use the new Streamlined release. We are extremely unhappy with the "Chart" portion of the release. I want the previous Face Sheet back on the Chart so I can, much more quickly, find and access what I need from the Chart. I tried to make a comment to his effect on the available Blog, and it wouldn't take my comment. VERY frustrating!

### "Athena Health is life changing"

February 22, 2017

5.0

We have been using Athena for almost 4 years. The ease of use, ability to just connect to the internet wherever we are is a huge plus. Also, we do not need to have a server room, pay for costly tech support people to be on standby is also a great selling point. The ability to run pretty much any type of report from front end to back end in real time helps see the direction and trends the practice is going through.

Pros

Transparency of the EMR is wonderful! Ability to see real time claims, payments, overall status in a payment cycle. Ease of use for clinical staff, doctors has really cut down on our charting. Athena lets you customize your charts, add templates, and will create interfaces with other programs you may use.

### "Great EMR"

February 15, 2017

5.0

Overall, Athena is really good at helping you do everything you need to do in order to take care of your patients. Their visit summaries and their order is great, claim billing is easy, and this EMR has a lot of great features.

Pros

Ease of claim billing, check-in process flows really well, and the in-take is also easy all you have to do is follow the steps. Like how the system does confirmation calls, and they provide patient portal access which a lot of our patients love.

Cons

The only con I have is sometimes if there is a claim with a specific error, you really have to spend time to push it through, and if there is an Athena rule in place, you have to get a few people involved.

### "All-in-one Medical Billing platform"

December 5, 2018

4.0

Pros

Our company found AthenaHealth to be the best Healthcare Billing Software we have ever used. It is so ingrained in our daily tasks that I can no longer imagine use functioning properly as a profitable business with the freedom to cultivate creative expressions and innovations without it. Their Customer Service staff are always helpful and take their time with you as if you were the only customer in the world.

Cons

The software takes some getting used. Customer Service is extremely helpful but hold times can be excruciating - especially when you need the software right then and there

### "Why we are leaving Athena...."

July 17, 2017

2.0

Product/company has not lived up to the promises made to increase cash flow. It's difficult to have control over claims and numerous times we found service items that were written off by Athena rather than being researched for additional reimbursement. We feel Athena is not a good match for a small practice. Cost of numerous features that a small practice does not utilize makes the cost of Athena too expensive.

Pros

Insurance eligibility checking system. Data entry of claims easy to navigate. Basic scheduling was ok.

Cons

Having funds go to your specific bank, then having to transfer monies making cash flow delay for the practice by several days. Very time consuming to find correct insurance plans, need a way to identify insurance payor by EDI number. Customer service needs required long hold times and we feel this was a significantly poor use of our staff time.

### "New user, like it so far"

December 18, 2018

3.0

Happy with product so far! I am really enjoying learning the product!

Pros

I am a new user to Athena and so far with clinical I really do like it. Before we had a separate program for patient health information from our billing and scheduling, having a nice link with the Athena scheduling is nice. There are also many different areas for the chart which helps define spaces for certain information which is nice so there is no hunting down information.

Cons

I am not s huge fan of how big the screens are, scrolling to get to my indented information is a wee frustrating but the other benefits help outweigh this. It also was a little hard to get used to the lay out, but now that we have been using it, I do like it.

### "Athena Review"

November 17, 2019

4.0

This is the only medical record system I have used so overall I am pleased with the system.

Pros

The overall presentation is simple and functional; the schedule preview page is one of my favorite features and the ability to select which providers schedules you wish to preview allows for easy access.

Cons

Inability to complete full psych treatment plans directly in the system; we have to use a separate system to develop ISPs and transfer into Athena.
