Streamline is a BIG step backwards. EMR is now VERY slow- even with new computers, fast router and good upload/download speed with COX. Despite multiple requests, pediatric growth curves are still poor. Seems like all new updates are about looks and not functionality. Wish they would let doctors be doctors...

From a billing perspective, I would not recommend this system. I do not like the billing set up in this system. The billing dept. at Athena does not seem to be very educated with billing/payment guidelines. I repeatedly find errors made by Athena billing dept. that is too numerous to even call and report to Athena, I just fix it on my end. This system has created extra work for the billing department instead of eliminating work for our billing department. I would not recommend this system to any office. The only good thing I can say about this system is that the customer support is helpful, but sometimes there is a long wait to speak with anyone in this department .

Easy to schedule - I do not like the "view appointments" section. It seems that Athena "updated" the appearance but I liked the old "view appointments" section better. I also find that I have to "click" a lot when navigating through patient charts ... I wish more information was available on the main pages.

Wish more information was available on the main pages - When scheduling appointments ... I wish we could see the appointment slots that are open ... instead of scrolling through numerous days looking for open slots. The view appointments should automatically show "details" instead of having to click to view it

The switch was not painful and the customer support has been top notch. From checking for insurance eligibility to checking in to billing, Athena has become a pillar in our business.

Overall Athena is very user friendly and I have no issue with the software. I use this software everyday and am very happy with it overall.

Pros

I love the ease of tracking everything from the AR to credit cards on file. Love the reporting options.

Cons

My least favorite aspect is the unpostables. There is no real information available about them and I feel like for the most part it is a dumping ground for payments. Too hard to verify they are truly resolved issues.

Pros

The EMR help create a note efficiently with templates and macros. Refilling prescriptions is easy, after figuring out what to refill.

Cons

The RCM/PM is terrible! I'm paying them a fortune and they are doing nothing. All the work is punted back to the biller. The EMR's biggest problems are seeing when an Rx was last refilled, having to search in different areas for messages, and too many steps involved in accomplishing some tasks.

This is the only emr I've used but training was adequate and the company seems eager to meet expectations.

Pros

I can see Athena regularly makes improvements to the system for ease of use and quality. Pretty self directed if necessary.

Cons

Help desk operators often seem to be "new" and lack full information.

Pros

I like being able to take care of tasks at anytime and anywhere at my convenience. I call support twice a month, and my experience has been excellent. I would say that the support staff that I have spoken to are extremely helpful and polite, and are able to resolve my issues 95 % of the time.

Cons

I cannot always understand the notes written by the claims processing people when I have to review a claim that has a problem. Fortunately, this is less than 5 % of my claims.

It took about a year of seeing patients before it became less time consuming. Now I can write notes fairly quickly and it is nice to have everything to carry forward from the last exam.

Pros

The ability to carry a note forward and adjust it.

Cons

How the note transfers to the letter to other physicians. It does not read well.

Athena is seamless and great for medical practices that have licensed MDs, LCSWs, LMHCs, LCACs, and LMFTs. It is easy to find a diagnosis, an allergy, medications, appointments, etc... I would recommend this software to anyone who has a behavioral health practice incorporated with mental health.

Pros

This system is easy to use, provides a smooth transition to the next step, and has a layout that makes sense.

Cons

The only thing I don't like about it is that we can't keep this software because we cannot integrate it with our non-licensed practitioners.

I haven't experienced any problems with Athena if anything I love the billing part. I create claims and they do the rest, post payments etc. I can always call and get help and they are extremely helpful and kind. This is our first EMR, so I do not have anything to compare it with. We're a happy office!

Able to get all insurance co fast years agoeasier to get signed up with insurance companies. Claims usually in 24 hours of submission

Cons

Support are more mechanical aspects of program, but an able to evaluate certain medical aspects of the program.

Pros

For years we were using Athena and fairly happy, I'd say we were somewhere between 7-8 on a scale of 10.

Cons

Then they "upgraded". They changed a lot and made every action like 3 clicks longer - I mean EVERY action. That's a lot of clicks when you have a busy practice. SO I would have probably recommended it prior to this disastrous change, but now definitely not. Not sure I'm going to stay with it. It is chaotic and user unfriendly and makes everything more prone to errors of all kinds. Everything takes much longer and I don't have more time. Terrible - especially for OBGYN. It was good before. Should have stuck with their old version.

Get a someone on the phone to support your issue is a MAZE to navigate.

Pros

Excellent EMR software. Accessibility from anywhere. Once you get acquainted with the product you like it.

Cons

Billing is horrible. You are misled that by paying over 7% they do the billing. Wrong, you have to do it all. All they do is send it, post it and collect. ANY ISSUE with billing is yours. So you still need a biller. (Add5-6%to your billing costs). Support staff are horrible and inexperienced. I startted in January and its now October ... I am happy with the DOCTOR part, the financial part is a DISASTER.

As the 3rd reviewer of "Athena Streamline", I wholeheartedly agree with the previous 2 reviewers. As a user of Classic version Athenahealth over the past 7 years, I was very happy with the product. I had it tweaked to EXACTLY how I wanted it and it was working well. I could not be happier until.... "Athena Streamline." Since "Athena Streamline" was shoved down my throat in April 2016 without my consent, my staff has suffered, my patients have suffered, and my practice has suffered. With "Streamline", it now takes me twice the amount of mouse clicks to get anywhere. As a result, workflow efficiency has declined, productivity has declined, patient satisfaction has declined, and last but not least, satisfaction with the Athena brand is at an all time low. It is a horrible exercise in frustration to communicate concerns to Athena. Make complaints on their client forums and they remove your posts and censor you. I honestly believe that Athena has been negligent in their handling of Streamline. They have a financial responsibility to their clients. Forcing it upon their client without consent is irresponsible. Ignoring client concerns and censoring any client complaint is oppressive. Disregarding the harm they have done to their client and continuing to subject them to undue physical, emotional, and financial stress is just wrong. If we did this to our patients, we'd be sued for negligence.

It's terrible move on to a different software vendor. I wish they would just fix the minor issues with athenaPractice.

We had goodluck with athenaOne but after the first 5 weeks we began noticing glaring issues.

Cons

We crash on a daily basis. The software is basic and the sales people are pushy

We chose it because it was cheaper than athenaPractice and the quality shows.. It's terrible

Cons

To me, a con of Athena EMR is that it is hard to search for help topics because I have to be specific. I wish it has a broad area that I can click then more detail.
